Dahlberg, Stina January 2007 (has links)

To blog about teenage books : A comparative study how youth book bloggers and librarians use and promotelitterature through blogs

Rydell, Erika January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to compare book blogsabout teenage literature, two blogs written by librarians, twoblogs written by youth. The aim is to find similarities anddifferences with focus on how the blogs reach the target audi-ence of youth and how the blogs work with reading promotion. The method used in this study is a qualitative content analysisof four blogs. The study uses two different theories. A enquiryscheme partly influenced by a study by Connie Crosby con-cerning how to be an effective blog. Also a theory taken fromJofrid Karner Smidt and her three approaches to reading pro-motion: the promotion on demand, the active recommendingand informing promotion and reading promotion in dialog. For the library blogs to better reach the target of youth theyshould try being more personal and recommend other bookblogs in order to be a part in the blog community. Theyshould also stimulate the interactivity by being thorough andanswer all the comments they get on the blog. The result concerning reading promotion shows that thelibrary blogs appears as accommodators while the youthblogs appears as readers. All blogs write mainly about newbooks and the library blogs should think about promotingsome older books as a complement to the youth blogs. There are also a clear difference between the approachof reading promotion. The youth blogs represent the promo-tion on demand while the library blogs represent the activerecommending and informing promotion and reading promo-tion in dialog.

“Lite som ett skyltfönster” : en enkätstudie om exponering av böcker på folkbibliotek / “A Bit Like a Display Window” : A Survey about Book Displays at Public Libraries

Andreassen, Hilda, Aspviken, Lowe January 2021 (has links)
Previous studies of library display have mostly focused on the librarian’s point of view. This study aims to examine library display from the users’ perspective. We wanted to find out if users found library display to be helpful, and whether it was possible to connect their thoughts on display to their thoughts on the librarian’s work. A questionnaire was distributed to users exiting a public library. It included questions on the users’ reaction to the displays they had encountered and their thoughts as to how librarians choose the books to be displayed. The users were also asked whether they approved of displaying books in general and their reasons for doing so or not. The results were interpreted in the light of a model proposed by Raber (1996) and developed by Sandin (2011), which divides librarians into three categories: social activist/emancipatory, traditionalist/conservative, and populist/pragmatic. In this study, the model was used to define and categorise users’ views on librarians and display. The results suggest that users tend to view library display as helpful in the library. The users’ views on display could largely be divided according to Raber’s/Sandin’s model. The dominant perspectives among the users were the social activist/emancipatory perspective and the populist/pragmatic perspective. The traditionalist/conservative perspective was expressed by a significant minority of users.

A good listener, flexible, fair and empathetic” : A qualitative interview study about children’s librarians view of and development of competence during their work with book clubs for children

Margér, Sophie, Spång, Ellinor January 2020 (has links)
he purpose of this bachelor’s thesis has been to gain a further understanding of children’s librarians development of and view of their competence and the way it is shown during their work with book clubs for children. The study is based on the following questions: how do children’s librarians define their competence during their work with book clubs for children? Which mediation roles do they express during their work with book clubs for children? How do they develop their competence during their work with book clubs for children? Semi-structured interviews with four children’s librarians were conducted. The analysis was carried out within a thematic framework based on Jofrid Karner Smidt’s (1994) mediation roles and Etienne Wenger’s (1998) theory of communities of practice. The key findings are that children’s librarians define their competence by describing words such as creativity, flexibility and empathy. The ability to build relationships and a true interest in children and children’s literature is also defined as key competences in their work. The result also shows that children’s librarians do express each one of Karner Smidts five mediation roles. The last finding in this study is that they develop these competences and skills mainly by joining the community of practice which is constituted by children’s librarians profession. Our ambition with this study has been to contribute to the research that distinguishes children’s librarians competence, an area which we believe is in need of further investigation.

Bergström, Arvid January 2020 (has links)

Hellgren, Sanna January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this study is to examine how norms about gender are constructed in the meeting with the library user as experienced by the librarian, with a focus on recommendation of books as a social practice. Questions that the study asks are if the librarians experience that norm critical notions are expressed in the meeting with the user, if the book recommendation as a social practice can strengthen and/or challenge norms and if the library as a room, what it contains and how it is structured, can affect the book recommendation as a social practice where norms are constructed or questioned. The study conducts interviews with six librarians who work with children’s literature, and parts of the interviews were done while walking through the children’s section at the participants libraries to respond to the question about how the room affects the book recommendation as a social practice. The theoretical framework that has been used consists of Connell’s theory about masculinity and Hirdman’s theory about the gender system and its gender contract. The results of the study shows that norms about gender are constructed in the book recommendation meeting with the library user, as experienced by the librarian, and it exists a gender contract at the library that contributes to reproduce a distinction between boys and girls. In the analysis a masculine reading hierarchy-model with three stages are presented, to understand how masculinity norms and the gender system affect boys reading habits, but also how the library room can affect it.

Bibliotekariers resonemang kring arbetet med läsecirklar sett ur ett professionsperspektiv / Librarians’ views on reading group activity from a profession theory perspective

Jönsson, Pia, Lindqvist, Johanna January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine what view librarians have on reading promotion for adults, in particular reading circles, and in which way earlier experiences, education and competence form this view. To what extent, if any, do perceptions of professional identity influence the interest to carry out some kind of reading circles for adults? Our study is based on qualitative interviews with librarians, both those in charge of reading circles in libraries and those who are not. As theoretical starting point we have used Andrew Abbott's work on theory of professions and Jofrid Karner Smidt's thesis on literary preferences and different kinds of mediation of literature. For our analysis we will also use earlier studies on the subject to place our study in a wider context. Our conclusions show that the librarians in our study have an ambivalent view on their profession and professional identity. The reading promotion activity is often seen as the opposite of information technology. The core of their profession is fiction and reading promotion, still they feel very insecure within the field. / Program: Bibliotekarie

Att välja bok i biblioteksmiljön : En studie av hur bibliotekens exponering av litteratur påverkar biblioteksanvändarnas val / Choosing a book in the library environment : A study of how literature exposure in the library affects library users’ choice

Lidén, Rebecca January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to describe in part the public library users’process when deciding which books to borrow. Focus is on the library users’experience of the process and how literature exposure can support them intheir choice of book. This study seeks to find out to what extent choices arespontaneously made at the library, which elements of exposure that the userfinds helpful in the process and which factors usually influence the user infinding new things to read. The data was gathered through 100 structured interviews with public libraryusers. To analyze the result a modified marketing research theory was used, providing a comprehensive view. The decision-making process can beunderstood as a combination of the orientation or attitude of the libraryuser, the behavior or tactics of the library user and the library environment. The results of the study show four examples of behavior patterns related tolibrary user orientations. The patterns are then linked to different aspects ofmediation of literature in the library environment. The study also presentsstatistics on spontaneous loans and divides these loans into three types. Byexamining the variety of library users’ behavior patterns and searchstrategies, this study contributes to further developing the literatureexposure of public library collections. / Program: Bibliotekarie

Do not read simply because the politicians say so : Childrens librarians approach to leisure reading and experiences of a summer challenge project.

Lehnberg, Annelie January 2014 (has links)
This study conducts a qualitative examination based on five interviews with children’s librarians. The aim is to bring up and analyse the attitudes of the librarians towards reading promotion activities for children outside of school and investigate their experiences of participation in a summer reading challenge project. The first theory used to analyse is Jofrid Karner Smidt’s thesis of five different roles that a librarian can have on literary preferences. The second is her theory of how librarians view their promotion of literature. My interviews shows that the librarians in the study have a common opinion and enthusiasm regarding children's pleasure reading. They consider that their most important task is to show them the joy in reading. Promote reading work outside of school requires marketing in a different way than the same work at school. The libraries spend a lot of time and energy to present themselves in different ways. It is important to constantly seek new ways of working and try to reach out to the children.A concept like Sommarboken with a common purpose and materials and follow up meetings is well considered. The various libraries design themselves their summer meetings as they want. At the meetings, the children have the opportunity to the all-important conversation about their reading, both with each other and the librarian. The lustful and undemanding in the arrangement is something that all the interviewees represent in their profession. / Program: Bibliotekarie
