Alriksson Lind, Alva January 2021 (has links)

A phenomenological self-study in media consumption and creativity

Westin, Benjamin January 2022 (has links)
This is a phenomenological self-study which examines the effects of limiting daily media consumption in relation to the experience of composing music. In the study, this is examined in relation to the phenomenona stress, distraction and motivation. This has been examined using the methods of keeping an unstructured journal and through filling out survey forms, and has been analyzed using thematic analysis. I limited my own media consumption during two weeks, and in the result of the study it appeared that I was distracted less during those two weeks. I experienced more inner motivation and more ease to stay focused on the task of composing. During the periods of unlimited media consumption I experienced that stress and distractions were limiting my composing. In the discussion I bring up that it is unclear whether the quality of the compositions were better during the weeks of limited consumption. Furthermore, the positive effects of limiting media consumption might consist of developed skills that might benefit my creative process, even outside of the periods of limited consumption.

Augustsson, Susanne, Henriksson, Carola January 2009 (has links)

Podcastens påverkan på traditionell radio : En kvalitativ intervjustudie på journalisters syn på podcasts påverkan på traditionell radio / The impact of podcasts on traditional radio reporting :  A qualitative interview study how journalists view the impact of podcasts on traditional radio

Lundvall Runsten, Eyla January 2024 (has links)
This study examines how journalists view the impact of podcasts on traditional radio, with focus on the growing popularity of podcasts and their influence in the radio industry. The study uses a qualitative research method with semi structured interviews with journalists who have experience with both radio and podcast. Throughout the interviews where five central themes identified:  Podcast as an opportunity and challenge Changed listening behaviorAdaptation and restructure of radio production Continued relevance of traditional radio  The future for radio and podcast  The results show that while podcasting offers new possibilities for content creation and audience engagement, it also presents challenges for traditional radio, especially when it is about keeping the audience and adapting to a changing media landscape. The study contributes with insights into how the radio industry evolves alongside digital trends and changes listening preferences, and how the professionals in the field handles the integration of traditional and new media forms.  This research is of importance to understand convergence culture in media and medialization theory, by exploring the relation between traditional radio and podcasts. The study also gives deeper insight into how media landscape affects producers and consumers of contents, it also emphasizes the need of flexibility and innovation in traditional radio to compete and coexist with the growing podcast industry.

The battle for attention : A survey of high school and university students media consumption ahead of the Swedish parliamentary election in 2022

Malmgren, Jacob, Brostedt, Simon January 2023 (has links)
This study examines what motivated high school students and university students to consume political content prior to the Swedish 2022 election. In addition, this study aims to investigate if there are any connections between the consumer’s motivation, preferred media and political sympathies. By primarily applying the uses and gratifications theory this study could draw several different indications of what motivated students to consume political content. As a complement to the uses and gratifications theory, the theory about knowledge gap and the socialisation theory was used. A survey was designed using these three different theories as well as previous scientifically conducted research. Survey questions included, among others, which factors were the most important for consuming news, political interest on a scale from one to five and which social media or news plattform was the most preferred for consuming political content prior to the Swedish 2022 election. This quantitative study included 19 questions and resulted in 298 answers by different participants via email. The result of this study indicates that seeking information was the most important motivation for students to take part in political content, regardless of education level or political opinion. Furthermore, a connection between political sympathies and media usage was discovered. Students who had sympathies for the opposition on the left side of the political spectrum (Vänsterpartiet, Miljöpartiet, Socialdemokraterna and Centerpartiet) preferred mainly the public service media. While the people who sympathised with the right leaning (Liberalerna, Moderaterna, Kristdemokraterna and Sverigedemokraterna) preferred to a greater extent the commercial media. This study also indicated that there is a difference between how much  political content high school students and university students consumed before the election on the 11th of September 2022. The difference is shown both in traditional media usage but also in the frequency of social media use. The high school students tended to have a higher motivation for consuming more media in general.

Prediktorer för negativ kroppsuppfattning : - en studie av mediekonsumtion och psykologiska mekanismer / Predictors of Negative Body Image : - a study of Media consumption and Psychological mechanisms

Ericson, Linda, Berglund, Johanna January 2010 (has links)
The importance of media consumption containing ideal/appearance focus and different psychological mechanisms to body image was examined by a survey. The sample consisted of 331 Swedish young men and women. For women, there was a weak positive correlation between media consumption and positive body image. BMI was a third variable, alternatively a mediator in this relationship. Selective exposure theory is proposed as a framework for interpreting these results. Furthermore, internalization and social comparison were important mechanisms related to body image. Compared with men, women experienced more negative body image, had lower self-esteem, more social comparison tendencies, and were more appearance-oriented. This study shows the complexity of processes connected to body image and highlights the importance of further research in this area.

Westman, Micke, Dimitrievski, Robin, Jonsson, Jimmy January 2021 (has links)
In today's society we have come to depend on digital media to carry out several daily tasks in order to achieve a fluent lifestyle. But with all of these handy features at our reach, entertainment has emerged permanently accessible for most individuals and as a result people in general spend more time in front of digital screens. By putting our attention to this assumption we want to investigate how companies go about incentivicing us to spend more time infront of digital media and how this might affect us. We believe that a clearer understanding regarding our reward system in relation to media consumption can be beneficial for a lot of people. To examine this matter, we have studied and compared to relevant research as well as executed a qualitative study where we have questioned both professionals in the industry regarding how they think when creating services and consumers to find out how they perceive these services. Our conclusions were that companies aren’t as aware of the theoretical mechanisms for addiction and UX for forced behaviour as we anticipated. However, they still use brand-new design tools which maximize what in fact is this very effect, such as extensive data-collection to optimise things like retention. Our consumer interviews revealed almost the opposite, all civilians were well aware and had a shockingly big understanding of algorithms and other forces that guide their hand, but they still felt hopelessly addicted to something useless. The takeaway synthesis of these two results is that companies should consider another parameter than things like retention when evaluating. They should start considering what time wasted consumers find meaningful. And a datapoint won't do any good in that regard

Ljungdahl, Hannah, Zilic, Melisa January 2023 (has links)
In a time filled with concerns and threats of terrorism, Sweden faces a challenge that demands our full attention. In this critical situation, we have chosen to investigate how students perceive the threat of a potential terrorist attack. Previous research has shown that people's trust in authorities affects the extent to which they feel fear about the possibility of a terrorist attack. Prior research has further emphasized the importance of media consumption and gender in shaping the experience of fear. The purpose of this pilot study is to examine how the increased threat to Sweden influences the level of fear among students across the country regarding a potential terrorist attack in Sweden. Additionally, the aim is to investigate whether trust in the general public has any significance for fear, while controlling for the impact of media consumption and gender. The theoretical framework draws upon Beck's theory of the risk society, Giddens' concepts of ontological security, trust, and expert systems, and finally Misztal's definition of the concept of trust. Data collection involves a survey, with the sample consisting of individuals over 18 years of age residing in Sweden and studying at a university or college. Univariate analysis, as well as bivariate and multiple regression analysis, were used to analyze the collected data. The study revealed that students' experiences of fear varied, with trust in authorities and the general public having no impact on their fear levels. However, the degree of fear was significantly influenced by students' media consumption, which also affected the relationship between trust and fear.

Public Service – at your service? : A study of attitudes toward the public service broadcasting company SVT

Mikkelsen Båge, Else January 2022 (has links)
Public service broadcasting is a longstanding broadcasting institution in Sweden. Being the most consumed and highly trusted media broadcasting institution on the market, it suffers both challenges and acclaim. It has become a highly politized matter. For the first time since its founding, trust and attitudes towards the public service broadcasting companies are starting to slowly dwindle and are being questioned. Representatives from parliament parties are calling for abolishment and restructuring, and the consumers are abandoning the public service broadcasting channels for commercial competitors. This is especially noticeable amongst youth. The aim of the study is to identify and analyse what factors can be relevant for understanding attitudes towards public service broadcasting. With a theoretical background in Markus Prior’s post-broadcast democracy, James G. Webster and Thomas B. Ksiazek’s audience fragmentation theory, and Strömbäck’s definition of media trust, a theoretical framework regarding consumption and factors concerning attitudes was constructed. Through this, the value of a public service broadcasting system could be charted, and consumer attitudes be understood.   The study consists of data from a nationwide survey. The data was analysed with binary logistic regression analysis, performed on two samples, one representing the Swedish population at large, and one representing youth. This to observe whether or not there were any differences between what factors constitute trust and positive attitudes towards public service broadcasting. Main findings include that youth is much less politically polarised than the population at large. Factors such as education, gender, and regularly consuming public service broadcasting content were also shown to be significant for attitude formation. From this, I could derive that the Swedish population, despite increased polarisation, still has very high levels of trust in, and positive sentiments towards the public service broadcasting company SVT.

Friluftsliv i ett förändrat kommunikationslandskap : En kvalitativ undersökning kring hur ny mediekonsumtion påverkar Umeå kommuns kommunikation

Utterström, Ylva January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this study is to examine which communication channels and communication strategies Umeå municipality could use for information concerning outdoor recreation. To achieve this aim the following theories and views have been applied: social communication, communication strategies, two-way symmetrical communication, social media and uses and gratifications. The study was conducted through four focus group interviews and one informant interview. The focus groups consisted of four groups of outdoor enthusiasts in Umeå municipality: outdoor interested students, organized outdoor enthusiasts, active families and active seniors. The informant were the person that is centrally positioned within the business. The material was collected during the 6th and 19th of February 2014. The results and analysis of the study showed that outdoor enthusiasts have acquired new communication habits and that the municipality partially requires changes in their communication strategy. The new media habits has meant that outdoor enthusiasts would like to receive personalized information rather than information that is targeted towards the crowd. Thus, there is a clash between how the municipality communicates and outdoor interested’s approach to dialogue. Outdoor enthusiasts also want to communicate with each other to a greater extent than with the municipality. The result also showed a lack of communication channels that enable outdoor enthusiasts to communicate with each other. Finally, there were also a digital divide that shows that active seniors are distinguished because they have not embraced the new media consumption in the same extent as other groups. This has the consequence that Umeå municipality must use a mixture of communication channels to adapt to the public. Materialet samlades in under tidsperioden 6-19 februari 2014.
