The operationalisation of cluster foster care schemes : a social developmental perspective

Du Toit, Willem Johannes 07 February 2014 (has links)
The presence of poverty, unemployment and children been infected or affected by HIV/Aids contributed to a high level of children in need of care and protection (Patel, 2005:165) and forced communities to came up with a ways of addressing this increasing need of alternative care. Cluster foster care schemes were one of the initiatives that were started spontaneously by community members to address need for more alternative care options (Colby-Newton, 2006:18). This form of alternative care was also included with the proclamation of the Children’s Act, 38 of 2005 and the Children’s Amendment Act, Act 41 of 2007 (Matthias, 2010:172-176). Although cluster foster care schemes are acknowledge and practice as a form of alternative care for children in need of care and protection the operationalising thereof remain a grey area. In an unpublished study by Taback and Associates, it was suggested that further research should be conducted regarding elements that need to be included in the operationalising of cluster foster care schemes (Taback and Associates, 2010:4). The above form the motivation for this study and also provide the basis for the formulation of the research question namely: “What are the operational elements necessary for the operationalising of cluster foster care schemes?” Following from the research problem and research question, the goal for this research was to explore and describe the present functioning of cluster foster care schemes in order to identify operational elements to be documented in a guideline for service providers and social workers. The researcher made use of qualitative research approach to explore and describe the participants’ perception on the research problem. This research endeavour firstly falls in the ambit of the phenomenology research design, which aimed to describe the conscious experience of the everyday life of the participants, which were in this study the managers of cluster foster care schemes as well as foster parents that provide foster care as part of a cluster foster care scheme. In addition to this the researcher also opted to include the exploratory, descriptive and contextual research design, which guided the exploration, description and contextualising of the views of the participants on elements needed to operationalise cluster foster care schemes. In order to achieve the above the researcher the researcher decided to make use of an intervention research model by Rothman and Thomas (1994:3-51), namely the “Intervention Develop and Design” framework (IDD framework). In this study the researcher only used phases one to phase four and certain steps of the IDD framework to develop the operational guidelines for the operationalising of cluster foster care schemes. In concluding the report of the study, the researcher provided summaries of and conclusions related to the background rational; research questions; goals and task objective of the study; the research methodology implemented; the empirical findings and literature consulted; and the developed operational guidelines. He concluded the document with recommendation related to the research process and methodology employed; research findings; and recommendation for further research on the research topic. / Social Work / D. Guidelines for designing a school guidance programme for senior primary school pupils

Labuschagne, Beverley Gaye 11 1900 (has links)
The need for personal guidance was identified amongst senior primary school pupils within a specific environment but no applicable programme was found and a programme needed to be designed. A literature study investigated the development of senior primary children, the field of guidance and five need areas to include in a guidance programme. Guidelines for designing a programme were also identified. An empirical study examined guidance needs of the pupils through a questionnaire administered to them, their parents, teachers, and older pupils_. Senior primary pupils were not able to provide clear information as to their needs. Older pupils and parents did identify certain need areas. Based on this, and on the literature, plans . to draw up a guidance programme to include all five need areas could continue. An introductory programme would also be run for parents and senior primary pupils. / Psychology of Education / M. Ed. (Psychology of Education)

CIHLOVÁ, Monika January 2018 (has links)
The diploma thesis is focused on the dilemmas of social workers at the Labor Office of the Czech Republic, at the department of benefits of material emergency. The aim of this work was to find out with what dilemmas the social workers at the Czech Labor Office, the department of physical expectations meet, and then to analyze two selected dilemmas through ethical theories. The thesis is divided into five chapters, the first three are focused on the theoretical introduction to the topic. The first chapter describes the scope, organizational structure of the Labor Office of the Czech Republic, the system of assistance in material need and benefits, which resolve the state of material need of the citizens. The second chapter is aimed at a social worker in the separation of the benefits of material need and social work with clients in material need. In the third chapter I describe ethics and ethical aspects of social work. The fourth and fifth chapters are crucial for this work. The fourth chapter describes and describes specific dilemmas encountered by social workers at the Labor Office of the Czech Republic in the department of subjects of material Need. The last fifth chapter contains a description of the selected ethical theory and two of my chosen dilemmas, which are analyzed in terms of selected ethical theories, namely deontology, utilitarianism and ethics of care.

The Relationship between Metacognition, Self-Actualization, and Well-Being among University Students: Reviving Self-Actualization as the Purpose of Education

Amir Kiaei, Yalda 28 March 2014 (has links)
This non-experimental, correlational study (N = 513) examined the relationships among self-actualization, well-being, and metacognition. Need-satisfaction and non-defensiveness were also tested as mediators in the relationship between metacognition and self-actualization. A battery of paper-and-pencil self-report measures was administered to a sample of undergraduate and graduate students in a public university in South Florida. Correlational and hierarchical regression analyses and structural equation modeling for mediational analysis were used to test the hypotheses. The results largely supported the hypotheses with only a few exceptions. Students who demonstrated higher level of self-actualization experienced higher well-being as well (the result of this hypothesized relationship was equivocal for parent students, n = 61). Moreover, need-satisfaction and non-defensiveness were found to be significantly and positively associated with self-actualization, providing preliminary supporting evidence for Maslow’s (1968) and Rogers’ (1951, 1961) theories of self-actualization. In addition, students with higher levels of general metacognitive competence were more likely to demonstrate higher level of need-satisfaction, non-defensiveness, self-actualization, and well-being (the result of the third hypothesized relationship was equivocal for female immigrant education students, n = 78). Further, metacognition and need-satisfaction, and metacognition and non-defensiveness shared common variance in predicting self-actualization. The relationship between metacognition and self-actualization was mediated by need-satisfaction and non-defensiveness, except for non-education students (n = 201), for whom no mediational effect was detected by non-defensiveness. In sum, the findings imply that general metacognitive competence, which can be taught as a set of skills, theoretically contributes to students’ self-actualization and well-being. This study provides support for a conceptual model of self-actualization, which introduces this phenomenon as a goal-oriented process that is essential to students’ well-being and can be attained by exercising metacognition. The discussion of the findings highlights implications of this study for theory, research, and practice as a guide for scholars, researchers, and practitioners in the field of education and psychology.

Du besoin d'informations à la formulation des requêtes : étude des usages de différents types d'utilisateurs visant l'amélioration d'un système de recherche d'informations / Information need versus query formulation : a study of the behavior of differentiated users to improve a system of information search

Latour, Marilyne 24 June 2014 (has links)
With the massive and heterogeneous web document collections, IR system must analyze the behaviors of users which are unpredictable and varied. The approach described in this thesis provides a comparison of the verbalizations for both natural language and web query for the same information need by the same user. For this, we used data collected (i.e. users' complaints in natural language and web queries) through a search engine dedicated to economic reports in French over 5 consecutive years totaling a corpus of 1398 natural language requests and 3427 web queries. Then, we compared the expression of the information need and highlighted the contributions in terms of information and clarification, the use of either language used.

Preschoolers communication and treatment with children in preschool. : Focusing on preschoolers experiences about children in need of special support.

Melin, Susanne January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate preschool teachers' communication and treatment with children in preschool. With questions about how pre-school teachers experience the communication and what meaning they consider communication in the day-to-day activities. Sociocultural theory is used to study the communicative activities and from a phenomenological perspective, the phenomenon is described. The hermeneutic perspective conveys the experiences of the phenomenon. The methods used for the study were through qualitative interviews with preschool teachers, which consisted of structured questions and with open follow-up questions. Qualitative interview ideas were chosen when questions were made for more open answers and where the experiences form the basis of the phenomenon of communication. The result showed several different themes that formed the basis for sustainable communication in preschool. The conclusion or the very essence of the phenomenon of communication was based on the interpretative phenomenological analysis; Possibility of sustainable communication, where prototypes like time, child vision and, among other things, cooperation showed the necessity for making sustainable communication with the children in preschool and especially for children in need of special support.

Hence the importance of the issue here exposed being made clear by the fact of these professionals need of information for the development of their teaching practices. The present research on "Needs and use of information in the practice of science teachers" aims to analyze the needs and use of information of teachers from the urban area of the municipality of Santa Rita - PB. In that sense, the following question arises: What are the needs and use of information for science teachers in their teaching practices? An alternative approach of the Users´ Studies was used in this research, and the Sense-Making model was prioritized for offering through universal categories of cognitive metaphor, the situation (need for information), gap (cognitive emptiness), and use (informational help to bridge the cognitive emptiness), the logical way for meeting the research objectives. This is a descriptive field research, with a propositional nature. The population is consisted of 28 science teachers, distributed in schools in the urban areas of the municipality of Santa Rita. As an instrument of data collection, the mixed questionnaire was used. Data analysis, of qualitative and quantitative basis, shows that the study group is composed of qualified teachers who prioritize the post-graduation demonstrating interest in being updated for the practice of teaching. Although acknowledging the difficulties of the profession, most teachers manifest satisfaction and teach for pleasure in self-fulfillment. With emphasis on the categories of the Sense-Making, situation-gap-use, the situation reveals that teachers are constantly seeking to meet their information needs through the Internet, books, and educational videos, among others. In the gaps, barriers of time, language, terminology and quality of information were the most displayed, but they developed strategies that minimized the difficulties and could make use of the information. The use of information was centered on the development of teaching activities and the teachers were satisfied with it because it solved their informational problem. Actions to contribute to a better performance of the studied teachers about those questions in their teaching and pedagogical practices were proposed. We conclude that the development of the research contributed to the basis of the Science of Information, which is to provide information and impart knowledge to those who need it, making this the social responsibility in this area of knowledge, as well as in Education, when it makes itself responsible for the challenge of educating a society. Studying the teachers´ information needs and how they guide the search process and the use of information to satisfy their informational needs towards teaching practice, was assigned as a process of great value.

The current work of searching aimed the investigation, contributes to the reflection of possible ways of working the inclusion within the educational parameters to the public policy to aim at a global society, which the different is disregarded and where educators point out as being a challenge, the inclusion practicing. The general purpose was analyzing and understanding which aspects prevent or make difficult teachers from three elementary schools of Ilha Solteira municipality, São Paulo State, working with especial need bearer, as Especial Education in Brazil, it has been defined some times, just as methods, techniques and different didactic material as usual. On this context, Especial Education in Brazil has not received necessary attention from studious so as to undertake a scientific investigation of its existence as educational practicing, which is reduced its action to the methodology repetition to reproduce and remaining this way, the system, ideology dominant as a tool for collecting data, it was carried out interviews by analysis on quanti-qualitative abordage. The analysis process and understanding of data had as finality to organization of a summary way of same, in a way that makes possible the supply answers to the proposed mather on the investigation. For this it consolidate was used the settlement of categories, electronic board, evaluation of generalization obtained by data and understanding of data. The data obtained showed that in spite of having a project of conclusion schools are not adapted structurally and pedagogically to attend “the PNE” (Special Need Bearer) and the educators do not have pedagogic technical support that contributes to a construction of an inclusive practicing, offering high quality education for all people, based on democratic foundation and appreciation of any kind of diversity being presented into the educational system.

Analýza jídelních lístků na vybrané základní škole z hlediska dodržování doporučených výživových dávek / Analysis of menu cards at choice primary school from aspect of advised nutritional doses

BARTOŠ, Ladislav January 2010 (has links)
Diploma thesis is based on the research which was carried out at the Primary school Velešín in the school year 2007/2008 and was focused on the pupils of fifth, seventh and ninth grades. The objective of the thesis was the analysis of the menus to find out saturation by macro-nutrients and selected micro-nutrients according to the nutritional requirements for school children. Research investigation might be divided into four parts. First part lied in the collection of the menus for the school year, their analysis in the programme NutriDan and following comparison to the norm of need of a school lunch, which is 35 % of a total daily nutritional dose. In the second part the variety of menus was assessed on the basis of repetition rate of particular meals in the school canteen in a month. The third part was the carrying out a questionnaire research of eating habits in pupils. In the fourth part the testing hypotheses were statistically assessed by means of chi-square distribution test. Out of gained results it was found out that required energy was fulfilled only in girls of ninth grade. The fulfilment was at the level 36.14{--}38.29 % of recommended daily dose (RDD). In other grades the energy was undervalued. Proteins were over the limit through the whole year. In the pupils of the fifth grade the fulfilment was in the interval 72.66{--}98.24 % of RDD (the average was 84.7 %), in the pupils of the seventh grade in the interval 55.28{--}74.22 % of RDD (the average was 64.2 %) and in the pupils of ninth grade in the interval 64.93{--}103.15 % of RDD (the average was 82 %). The fulfilment of carbohydrates was insufficient. In the fifth grade it was in the interval 18.81{--}25.35 % of RDD, in the seventh grade only in the interval 16.27{--}23.52 % of RDD and in ninth grade in the interval 21.54{--}29 % of RDD. The intake of lipids was excessive in the girls of the ninth grade (37.56{--}46.21 % of RDD). The fibre was in the norm of need. Out of the observed micronutrients calcium was deficient; the fulfilment was not over 21.62 % of RDD in the pupils of the fifth grade, in the pupils of the seventh grade 19.82 % of RDD. In the pupils of the ninth grade the fulfilment was in the interval 21.37{--}27.86 % of RDD. Through the whole year, vitamins B6 and B12 were over the limit. By the assessment of variety the low rates of leguminous soups, fish, fruit and vegetables were found out. Pork meat and sweet meals were excessive in several months. In boys increasing trend of Body Mass Index (BMI) depending on their age was evident; with higher age more respondents left out breakfast and had lunch more off the school canteen, which might be one of the causes of overweight or obesity in children. The consumption of fruit and vegetables was insufficient. Tested hypotheses proved the following: physical activity did not depend on respondents{\crq} sex; respondents{\crq} BMI depended on regular consumption of breakfast, time spent at a TV set and a computer did not depend on the age of respondents.
