A ironia é então o modo de revelar a crítica que compõe a narrativa / This dissertation analyzes, with reference to the theoretical legacy of Mikhail Bakhtin, the discourses present in the novel Numa e a Ninfa, of Lima Barreto, published in 1915. The narrative, a roman à clef, focuses on characters involved in the political environment, such as deputies, senators, journalists, military, wives, lovers, widows and popular agitators, settled into old habits, that despite the newly founded republic, lived in search of particular benefits. Think about the writer Lima Barreto evokes the question of authorship; in turn, the notion of a narrator puts us in touch with the question of the author-creator. Considering the concepts of Bakhtin’s literary discourse on, throughout this work we proceeded to the narrator's discourse analysis and the characters of the novel. Finally, we articulate a reflection about the ironic critique of ideologies of the social practices between there portrayed figurations. The irony is the way to reveal the criticism in the narrative

Řečtí a římští reformátoři / Greek and Roman reformers

Grigoryan, Hračja January 2016 (has links)
The goal of this thesis on roman and greek reformers was to create a methodical summary of the most important constitutional reforms in ancient Rome and Greece. It is mostly focussed on the history of ancient Rome or Roman reformers, respectively. I call these reforms constitutional for their undoubted life-changing impact on the society as a whole - some of the reforms changed the ancient societies for the upcoming decades and even centuries, some changed them, as I believe, forever. For example a struggle between Lucius Cornelius Sulla and Gaius Marius had a far- reaching impact on Rome as too much of "unbreakable" rules were broken - which, of course, led to another and another heavy and unprecedented interventions which ultimately led to the fall of the republic and the beginning of the new, Imperial, era. Main sources of this thesis are the texts of ancient authors, such as Plutarch Suetonius and Appian, as it was one of my goals to use primary literature as much as possible.

Performance Characterization and Optimization of In-Memory Data Analytics on a Scale-up Server

Awan, Ahsan Javed January 2017 (has links)
The sheer increase in the volume of data over the last decade has triggered research in cluster computing frameworks that enable web enterprises to extract big insights from big data. While Apache Spark defines the state of the art in big data analytics platforms for (i) exploiting data-flow and in-memory computing and (ii) for exhibiting superior scale-out performance on the commodity machines, little effort has been devoted to understanding the performance of in-memory data analytics with Spark on modern scale-up servers. This thesis characterizes the performance of in-memory data analytics with Spark on scale-up servers.Through empirical evaluation of representative benchmark workloads on a dual socket server, we have found that in-memory data analytics with Spark exhibit poor multi-core scalability beyond 12 cores due to thread level load imbalance and work-time inflation (the additional CPU time spent by threads in a multi-threaded computation beyond the CPU time required to perform the same work in a sequential computation). We have also found that workloads are bound by the latency of frequent data accesses to the memory. By enlarging input data size, application performance degrades significantly due to the substantial increase in wait time during I/O operations and garbage collection, despite 10% better instruction retirement rate (due to lower L1cache misses and higher core utilization). For data accesses, we have found that simultaneous multi-threading is effective in hiding the data latencies. We have also observed that (i) data locality on NUMA nodes can improve the performance by 10% on average,(ii) disabling next-line L1-D prefetchers can reduce the execution time by upto14%. For garbage collection impact, we match memory behavior with the garbage collector to improve the performance of applications between 1.6xto 3x and recommend using multiple small Spark executors that can provide up to 36% reduction in execution time over single large executor. Based on the characteristics of workloads, the thesis envisions near-memory and near storage hardware acceleration to improve the single-node performance of scale-out frameworks like Apache Spark. Using modeling techniques, it estimates the speed-up of 4x for Apache Spark on scale-up servers augmented with near-data accelerators. /
QC 20171121

We have chosen for the accomplishment of our study one literary corpus, specified, a theatrical text, because the dialogues analised retract the spontaneity of the language. In this reaserch, we stand by theorically, in Analysis of the Conversation in a socialinteractionist perspective. We observed the mechanisms employed to formulate/reformulate the strategies adopted during the development of the conversational interaction.

Durand, Marie 25 October 2013 (has links) (PDF)

Iterative and Adaptive PDE Solvers for Shared Memory Architectures / Iterativa och adaptiva PDE-lösare för parallelldatorer med gemensam minnesorganisation

Löf, Henrik January 2006 (has links)
Scientific computing is used frequently in an increasing number of disciplines to accelerate scientific discovery. Many such computing problems involve the numerical solution of partial differential equations (PDE). In this thesis we explore and develop methodology for high-performance implementations of PDE solvers for shared-memory multiprocessor architectures. We consider three realistic PDE settings: solution of the Maxwell equations in 3D using an unstructured grid and the method of conjugate gradients, solution of the Poisson equation in 3D using a geometric multigrid method, and solution of an advection equation in 2D using structured adaptive mesh refinement. We apply software optimization techniques to increase both parallel efficiency and the degree of data locality. In our evaluation we use several different shared-memory architectures ranging from symmetric multiprocessors and distributed shared-memory architectures to chip-multiprocessors. For distributed shared-memory systems we explore methods of data distribution to increase the amount of geographical locality. We evaluate automatic and transparent page migration based on runtime sampling, user-initiated page migration using a directive with an affinity-on-next-touch semantic, and algorithmic optimizations for page-placement policies. Our results show that page migration increases the amount of geographical locality and that the parallel overhead related to page migration can be amortized over the iterations needed to reach convergence. This is especially true for the affinity-on-next-touch methodology whereby page migration can be initiated at an early stage in the algorithms. We also develop and explore methodology for other forms of data locality and conclude that the effect on performance is significant and that this effect will increase for future shared-memory architectures. Our overall conclusion is that, if the involved locality issues are addressed, the shared-memory programming model provides an efficient and productive environment for solving many important PDE problems.

Ortiz, Renata Baum January 2013 (has links)
This dissertation is about the marginal character type by analyzing the texts of two contemporary dramas. The first one is Dois perdidos numa noite suja (1966) by Plínio Marcos, and the second one is Nossa vida não vale um Chevrolet (1990) by Mário Bertolotto, two important Brazilian playwrights that present some interesting common elements as well as differences that can be examined. In order to investigate the different constructions of marginal characters created by the playwrights, two plays were selected according to a similar theme: both plays present thieves as main characters. However, in Plínio Marcos’s play the characters are conducted to a marginal life in the condition of fortune’s puppets, while in Mário Bortolotto’s, the act of being a marginal, since the beginning of the play, is a part of the character’s identity. The analysis will be based upon the theories regarding drama characters by Décio de Almeida Prado, the analysis of the Brazilian malandro character by Antonio Candido and by Roberto DaMatta, and, above all, the idea of the replacement of malandro by marginal, developed by João César Rocha. Considering both plays have movie adaptations, it will be a topic studied in this dissertation as well. Plínio Marcos’s play had two movie adaptations Dois perdidos numa noite suja (1970) and 2 perdidos numa noite suja (2002), and the movie version of Bortolotto’s play had a different title as Nossa vida não cabe num Opala (2008). The adaptations will be analyzed in order to verify if the traces of these marginal characters are maintained in the cinema language, since it grants more autonomy to the characters, compared to its original creation. In the end, this research intends to investigate the possibilities of seeing the origin of the marginal in the figure of the malandro and to examine how this view, originated from the historical differences in the context of these two playwrights, is responsible for the distance between these two authors often compared.

Brizotto, Bruno 15 August 2014 (has links)
Submitted by Ana Guimarães Pereira (agpereir@ucs.br) on 2014-12-05T12:41:21Z No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Bruno Brizotto.pdf: 1308074 bytes, checksum: 6071d7adf66dcb4a6da00c3634e378f4 (MD5) / Made available in DSpace on 2014-12-05T12:41:21Z (GMT).
