The ancient Narratio as an ecclesial participation in the divine pedagogy: a study of its sources and proposal for its current application

Innerst, Sean 11 1900 (has links)
This study represents a work of practical narrative theology which originates in the notable prominence of an ancient form of catechesis in a modern document, the General Directory for Catechesis (GDC), issued in 1997 by the Sacred Congregation for the Clergy in the Vatican. The GDC first mentions narratio explicitly in number 39 in the form of an imperative: "Catechesis, for its part, transmits the words and deeds of Revelation; it is obliged to proclaim and narrate them and, at the same time, to make clear the profound mysteries that they contain." It is under the weight of that obligation that this study came to be. Narratio, or the narration of salvation history, which was a standard part of the catechesis of the Church of the fourth and fifth centuries gave way to the exigencies of a changing Church in which the catechetical focus turned from adults, who needed a Judeo-Christian worldview to replace a Greco-Roman one, to children who had grown up in communities shaped by a Christian vision. This doctoral thesis proceeds by, first, surveying Roman Catholic magisterial teaching immediately preceding the issuance of the GDC to trace the roots of this apparent innovation within an institution which is otherwise noted for its conservatism. After establishing the context and character of the GDCs call for revival of narratio, this thesis examines the historical setting, rhetorical structure, and function of narratio in Augustine of Hippo's De catechizandis rudibus, and then its scriptural precursors in the two Testaments in order to discover how this narration functioned in the Jewish and Christian communities which practiced haggadic and anamnetic recitals of God's saving works as a means to the formation and maintenance of communal identity. This study seeks to establish that a positive response to the GDC's call is as much warranted by the evidence provided in the biblical and post-biblical Jewish and Christian practice of ritual/covenantal remembrance as by the Catholic magisterial imperative in the GDC. In this, it may aid to inform and direct such a positive response to the GDC for the revival of the catechetical narratio. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / D. Th. A management model for the recognition of prior learning (RPL) at the university of South Africa

Janakk, Lisa 11 1900 (has links)
This study explored the implementation of the recognition of prior learning (RPL) at Unisa by investigating the strengths and weaknesses of the RPL methodology, instruments and processes when taking students through the RPL process. The successes and challenges experienced by the RPL academic advisors and the academic assessors were determined and guidelines provided for the effective implementation of RPL at Unisa. The empirical research design was exploratory within a qualitative framework employing participant observation, focus group interviewing, individual interviewing and the distribution of questionnaires that consisted of open-ended questions. The research sample comprised 26 purposefully selected participants. With regard to the research findings, the challenges include a lack of administrative support, a lack of support from top management and the academic staff, and a lack of communication between management and the RPL department. The strength of the RPL department lay in its well-documented process manual. / Teacher Education / M. Ed. (Education Management)

Oliveira, Livia Roberta 25 September 2015 (has links)
The present research aims at understanding how the musical practices are carried out outside music classes in the space/time in the State Conservatory of Music "Dr. José Zôccoli de Andrade" of Ituiutaba-MG. The student of this Conservatory are seen as social beings made of numerous characteristics due to their socio-cultural context, which is directly related to their musical practices in the school of music. From the point of view related everyday life theories, it was intended to also understand what those musical practices were and how they used to happen and to be organized in space/time when students are at the Conservatory but out of music class in space/time like hallways, patio, hall and even the classroom itself, free time between classes, at the unofficial break time, among others. The theoretical view directed to these practices is based on some concepts of theories of everyday life from the perspective of Pais (2003), of music education as social practice in the vision of Souza (2000, 2004, 2009), the ideas of Brougère (2012) about learning in daily life, and in the concepts of space/time of Lindôn (2000). In a qualitative approach, the case study was the method adopted in this research, and data collection procedures were observations and interviews with students. It is concluded that the students are organized in different ways to perform these musical practices, some of them expected and not expected, individual or/and shared ways and grounded on performances and musical listening. The musical practices carried out in the space/free time music class are important actions in the context of this diversified School of music, and that contributes to the understanding of the teaching/learning processes in the musical Conservatory. / Dissertação (Mestrado)

Rozvoj duchovních hodnot u dětí mladšího školního věku v rámci práce ve školní družině / Development of Religious Values in Children of Younger School Age Engaged in School Childrens Messroom Activities

JÁCHIMOVÁ, Tereza January 2008 (has links)
This thesis examines the religious development in young children engaged in school children{\crq}s messrom activities. The theoretical part describes school children{\crq}s messrom activities at free play time, characterizes guidelines of activities in school children{\crq}s messrom programs, and explores difficulties in value development from physiological, pedagogical anthropology and axiology, philosophy and religious ethics. This thesis also analyzes children of younger school age and studies normal childhood development and phases of development relating to human religiosity. It also includes the issues surrounding today{\crq}s education system relating to religion. The practical part of this thesis is based upon survey research conducted in two elementary schools. The survey subject was directed relating to the meaning of Christian holidays such as Easter and Christmas, preternatural phenomena and the perplexity surrounding death. It emerged from this survey research that the majority of young children are unaware of the meaning of Christian holidays such as Easter or Christmas, that they are interested in preternatural phenomena, and think intensively about death. Three weeks of learning guidelines are presented within this thesis. These guidelines are based on the survey study and cover the religious meanings of Christian holidays, specifically Christmas and Easter, and perplexity surrounding death.

The importance of corporate governance rules and its application is a recurrent subject in academic work in many countries due to its significance to managers, investors and regulators, among other agents. Beyond regulations to control whether companies are in agreement with the regulations imposed by the levels of corporate governance, there are not many published metrics regarding the efficiency of these norms. One of the corporate governance practices in Brazil is the mandatory presence of at least 20% of independent directors in the composition of the board of directors of public companies listed on Level II and Novo Mercado on the Brazilian stock exchange (B3). Many articles address the contributions or qualitative implications of the presence of these agents on the board. On the one hand, independent directors can play the role of overseeing, discussing the long-term vision or representing minority shareholders. On the other hand, diversity brought to the board of directors can reduce conciseness or consensus over deliberate decisions. This article proposes a quantitative analysis with econometric models to validate any relation between the presence of independent directors, the number of members in the board of directors and the financial performance of companies in Brazil between 2010 and 2016. This article contributes to the related literature with an update about the subject and presents a convergent conclusion amid the univariate and multivariate analyzes.

Les conditions du développement des compétences interculturelles des adolescents immigrants à Sherbrooke / Conditions for the development of cross cultural competencies of immigrant youth in Sherbrooke

Hanina, Marina 03 June 2016 (has links)
The subject matter of the present research is the analysis of conditions in which immigrant youth develop their cross cultural competences in school milieu in Sherbrooke.Several questions pertaining to changes taking place in Quebec society and the particular needs of Quebec’s educational system, in which the target population evolves, are outlined. Nationally, and particularly on the institutional level, the emergence of complex intercultural trajectories is increasingly taking center-stage. Such experiences represent dynamic evolving phenomena that provoke various feelings, specific behavior patterns, emotional disorders and cultural shocks. They are more clearly identifiable in certain regions where the number of newly arrived immigrants continuously grows. And the immigration in Sherbrooke is in constant evolution. Academic professionals are not sufficiently skilled to adequately perform in this kind of situations. They deplore their lack of knowledge and resources in this area, given that immigration to small towns on this scale is a relatively new phenomenon in Canada.Furthermore, this new phenomenon remains largely unexplored in the scientific domain. This subject is only partially paid attention to and is poorly adapted to the specific realities of immigrant youth being brought up in such regions. The conceptual field and frame of reference appear to have to be entirely reconstructed. To do so, it is necessary to analyze the conditions in which immigrant youth develop their cross-cultural competencies as it would allow us to understand the process of how they are acquired.Such subtle analysis will provide for carrying out tools and techniques to better equip academic professionals with knowledge and skills to help them face their new school realities and act in an appropriate and efficient manner. To address this need, we deployed an analysis pattern, which allowed us to study the evolution of cross-cultural competences by considering positive and negative factors for their development. These factors have been classified in an ecosystem, going from micro-system to macro-system.In the present study four types of respondents were interrogated: Quebecois youth, immigrant youth and their parents and teachers working in multicultural classes. These four respondents’ types were necessary to obtain a comprehensive view of the immigrant situation and their integration. We used focus groups, projective imagination test and face to face interviews. The results of the global analysis have shown that there are several crucial factors which were classified into the ecosystem. The main identified factors are: the degree of self-motivation, self esteem and how the school image is perceived (microsystem), parental strategies (mesosystem), teachers’ academic background and their tutorial approach, as well as policies around “welcome classes” structure (macrosystem). Moreover, we noticed that immigrant youth tend to faster adopt and integrate the culture of the Quebec society as well as merge with the new school community. The present research aimed to study the concepts of cross-cultural competencies has been enriched by the multidisciplinary approach we have applied throughout our analysis (psychology, pedagogy, sociology and anthropology).

Listening/Reading for Disremembered Voices: Additive Archival Representation and the Zong Massacre of 1781

Cartaya, Jorge E 27 March 2017 (has links)
This thesis grapples with questions surrounding representation, mourning, and responsibility in relation to two literary representations of the ZONG massacre of 1781. These texts are M. NourbeSe Philip’s ZONG! and Fred D’Aguiar’s FEEDING THE GHOSTS. The only extant archival document—a record of the insurance dispute which ensued as a consequence of the massacre—does not represent the drowned as victims, nor can it represent the magnitude of the atrocity. As such, this thesis posits that the archival gaps or silences from which the captives’ voices are missing become spaces of possibility for additive representation. This thesis also examines the role voice and sound play in these literary texts and the deconstructive-ethical philosophies of Jean-Luc Nancy and Jacques Derrida. This thesis argues that these texts invoke the sonic materiality of voice in the service of responding to the disremembered dead through mourning and acknowledgment.

Performance boursière des fusions-acquisitions dans le secteur bancaire : influence des caractéristiques des conseils des banques initiatrices et des modalités de la transaction / Stock market performance of bank mergers and acquisitions : impact of board characteristics of acquiring banks and terms of transaction

Bikourane, Nabil 29 November 2011 (has links)
This thesis analyzes the relationship between Board characteristics of acquiring Banks and short termStock Market reactions, measured with the Event Study Methodology. We examine if Board structure helps tolower conflict of interests during Mergers and Acquisitions, and creates Shareholder value. Two effects areanalysed. The first one supposes a direct influence of Board characteristics on the acquirer’s abnormal returns. The second one introduces a mediating effect of the premium, considering that Board structure affects itsmembers’ commitment. For both effects, we control some performance determinants relative to transactionand involved banks. Our results indicate that Financial Markets expect that Boards play an important role in acquisitions. Wefind a favourable impact of outside dominated Boards and the absence of duality on the acquirer's abnormalreturns. In addition, by controlling the method of payment, we obtain a significant and positive correlationbetween use of cash and acquirer's returns.
