Rizzo, Luisa Maria Nunes Vieira January 2008 (has links)
Any therapeutic project implies training people to be able to innovate, invent, and create. This is the origin of the desire for increasing our knowledge regarding the individual’s creative dimension and life power, as well as in terms of ways to create environments that stimulate self-invention and the invention of the world. This interest served as the basis for the analysis of an experience involving a group of craftswomen and an artist. The objective of this study is to present such experience. Based on the concept of Happening created by Gilles Deleuze, and having patchwork as the means, this experience relates ways of working to ways of practicing subjective analysis. This experience is based on the assumption that the way people work with patchwork constitutes a creative aesthetics of opportunities and transformations, producing new ways of being. The topic of attention, according to the concept created by Henry Bergson, is one the essential elements in the process of search for freedom to consider aesthetics and the way we use the environments. From getting familiar with still machines to the transformation of this equipment into subjectivizing devices, this is the process we intended to show, and such a process is summarized in this text.

The whole is “other” than the sum of its parts : An investigation of synesthesia and perception through a patchwork

Sjödin, Åsa January 2020 (has links)
Some people experience music as colourful patterns or feel it as a physical touch, they have synesthesia. A neurological condition in which a stimulus of one sense automatically and involuntarily triggers a sensation in another sense. This shows that perception is not normative. The aim of this work is to try to develop an understanding of this phenomenon by using textile dyeing and patchwork as a tool for my investigation of it. Another aim is to raise awareness and try to see if it is possible for a non synesthete to experience something similar to the complex intersensory connections as those with synesthesia have. The sum of all perceptions of a human, after it has been processed by their own mind, can result in something that is not just the sum of each individual perception, but something that can at the end be quite different from what  might be expected. This motivated the title, and furthermore leads naturally into the Gestalt theory of perception, which is used as the major theoretical framework for this paper.

Teddy Vessels [also known as our former best friends]

Hansen, Felicia January 2022 (has links)
Teddy bears have become a universal symbol of our childhood, but we tend to forget them when we grow up. The toy industry is a growing empire where manufacturers constantly compete for consumers' attention. This results in growing waste from the toy industry and a need to find solutions to how to deal with it. This research explores repurposing possibilities of discarded stuffed animals based on their colour, form, texture, and print to create sculptural textile objects through deconstruction, patchwork, and sculpting techniques. This research was conducted by performing a series of design experiments exploring discarded stuffed animals through deconstruction and time-limited sketching. This allowed various sculptural objects to be constructed mainly by crazy pathworking and casting with different plaster materials or teddy bear filling. The outcome is a collection of 7 textile objects with a suggestive function, but the material it is constructed in challenges it. They extend from recognisable vase forms to forms that almost are unrecognisable. These objects place themselves in the field of not only textile design but also functional art. This research contributes to the field of textile design by suggesting a new usage for an atypical material, discarded stuffed animals. Furthermore, the collection Teddy Vessels [also known as our former best friends] proves that discarded stuffed animals still have a place in our lives even though we have forgotten them.

Constructions tropicales de noeuds algébriques dans IRP3

Will, Etienne 20 September 2012 (has links) (PDF)

Aguilar Araujo, Aysha Angélica, Akamine Kina, Jaime, Bambarén Huapaya, Jaime Enrique, Ynga Ponce, Socorro del Pilar, Zevallos Llontop, María Pía Mía 22 February 2021 (has links)
In recent years, the ways of sewing and finishing in bedroom and living room products have multiplied. However, at the local level, the patchwork technique has not yet been widely disseminated in this category, which basically consists of joining pieces of fabric to create pieces of great color and texture. At this juncture DecoPatch arises, a business project that, focusing on this technique, seeks to develop differentiated home decoration products. In the first place, it is based on the circular economy scheme by providing a "second life" to the scraps of cloth that are usually discarded by large producers, thus promoting the ecological reuse of materials; then, the color palette, bold design and high quality (when working exclusively with Peruvian cotton), which are derived from the technique, represent an added value to the articles compared to the more standardized models that are offered in the national market. Sales are channeled through a responsive design web platform, which not only offers the product portfolio, but is updated periodically with content of interest on decoration trends and information on the most outstanding characteristics of patchwork. The proposal arises to meet the needs of an increasingly growing universe of consumers who seek to embellish the environments of their bedroom and living room with more special and modern items, at a competitive price and aligned with responsible production practices. / Trabajo de investigación

Dva tisíce osmdesát čtyři / Twenty Eighty-Four

Truncová, Eva Unknown Date (has links)
The project follows up on the undergraduate work on the issue of control and surveillance in public space. Tendencies of absolute transparency, well-arranged and controllable public premises, supposedly implying security, are present in most of the newly emerging complexes of buildings and urban planning strategies. Whether it is done consciously or as a result of current “trends” and requirements, which only a few question, the space is built to meet these demands for easy controllability. The second method of control, which has also emerged during the era of modernism, is the control of the indoor climate through "mechanical environmental management" or through the use of fossil fuel energy for heating, cooling and ventilation. Current requirements for the comfort of the indoor environment presuppose a constantly, fully and homogeneously tempered environment, regardless of the outdoor climate or the time of year. Both control regimes permeate all measures of the urban environment and have a direct impact on its organization, form and, above all, on the regimes of its usage. Developers and their commissioned architects repeat well-proven business models and forms, without any major focus on the context of the place, and incorporate this "logic of control" into their buildings and surroundings. Housing complexes are planned and built up as one unit with a rigid structure and only a minimal possibility of their later alteration. The domain of control through transparency penetrates from the public space to the entrance door of the apartment unit. Indoor, social control changes to total control of the interior climate of the apartment, where the boundaries between seasons and day and night are blurred. The proposal is investigating alternative ways of urban planning and architecture. The project deals with the relationship between building, its surroundings and applicable regulations, standards and energy efficiency, along with the idea of adaptive living.

To embroider is a verb : Reflections from a needles eye

Skafvenstedt, Ellen January 2016 (has links)
