The Janus Face of Petroleum: Norway, Venezuela and Petrostate-led Development / The Janus Face of Petroleum

Benavides García, Santiago January 2023 (has links)
This paper examines the strategic management of natural resources in Venezuela and Norway, focusing on the role of the State in the petroleum industry and its implications for economicdevelopment. In Venezuela, the national oil company PDVSA experienced increased stateintervention, leading to a dependence on petroleum revenues and limited diversification. Incontrast, Norway's approach, exemplified by Statoil, emphasized corporate independence anddiversification efforts beyond the petroleum sector. The study explores the interplay betweenpolitics and corporate interests in both countries, considering the influence of the politicalcontext on Statoil's operations and the impact of the "resource trap" in Venezuela. Byanalysing these cases, the paper contributes to our understanding of strategic resourcemanagement and offers valuable insights for developing countries facing similar challenges.

Module design in a changing era of Higher Education: academic identity, cognitive dissonance and institutional barriers

Binns, Carole L. January 2017 (has links)
No / This book explores the module design experiences and practices of academics employed within one UK university, and during a period of social and economic change in which university staff are designing and delivering curricula for changing student populations, with different profiles and expectations than previous generations. The book raises issues such as why, in a climate of reduced resources, staff increase their own workloads by re-writing lectures to accommodate changing student needs, and how institutional practices that are used to encourage curriculum innovation are often having a perceived opposite effect. It will appeal to academic staff, students of higher education studies, and policy-makers within the education sector.

Postkoloniale perspektiewe in enkele romans van André P. Brink

Bothma, Mathilda Cecilia 30 November 2004 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / This study investigates postcolonial aspects of the prose oeuvre of André P. Brink, with specific reference to his historiographical texts `n Oomblik in die wind, Houd-den-Bek, Die eerste lewe van Adamastor, Inteendeel, Sandkastele and Donkermaan. The texts can be described as links in a textual history of South Africa: a history corresponding to the official version, revisioning it in an imaginative way. The texts also criticize political (mal)practices, and the pre-colonial, colonial and postcolonial social contexts of the country are critically scrutinized. The texts offer suggestions for a new political dispensation. Since the seventies the Brink oeuvre has developed a multi-dimensional postcolonial approach. Aspects of post-colonialism, post-structuralism, magical realism and feminism as articulated in the texts, are analyzed and interpreted. Brink's investigation of problems concerning historiography, and the relation between history and fiction, comprised an important aspect of the research leading to this report. / Afrikaans & Theory of Literature / D.Litt. et Phil

The provision of education at Medingen mission station since 1881

Mashale, Francinah Koena January 2010 (has links)
This research report focuses on the origin and development of the Medingen Mission Station, near Ga-Kgapane in the Limpopo Province, and the provision of education at this station since its establishment in 1881. After an account of missionary endeavours in South Africa during the second half of the nineteenth century (with the emphasis on the activities of the Berlin Missionary Society), an explanation is provided of how missionaries became involved in the weal and woes of the Balobedu tribe. This is followed by an indication of how Reverend Fritz Reuter took the initiative to provide basic education to the inhabitants of Ga-Kgapane and how education provision developed at Medingen since then. Reasons are advanced for the prominence Medingen Primary School currently enjoys and the study concludes with the assertion that Medingen Mission Station can be regarded as an important, though not exclusive source of the Balobedu’s present-day identity. / Educational Foundations / M.Ed. Anargie in die beloofde land : 'n holistiese benadering tot die 'Rigtertyd'

Le Roux, M. 06 1900 (has links)
This dissertation deals with a holistic approach towards the history of the Israelite tribes/clans throughout the 'period of the Judges' (as referred to in the Old Testament). In my opinion, a holistic approach has the potential to offer a more comprehensive analysis of the 'period of the Judges'. A fourfold investigation into the situation of the Israelite tribes/clans is carried out involving the political context, the socio-cultural and economic situation, the religious-ideological aspect and the literary dimension. In the last chapter an attempt is made to integrate the different dimensions. To conclude, it can be said that nearly all phenomena in the tribal period was characterized by a lack of structure or order, in other words, there was anarchy in the Promised Land. 'Everyone did what was right in his own eyes' (Jdg 21 :25). / Biblical and Ancient Studies / M.A. (Bybelkunde)

La Participación Ciudadana en los Gobiernos locales: Contexto Político y Cultura política. Un análisis comparativo de Buenos Aires y Barcelona

Schneider, Cecilia 08 January 2008 (has links)
By the end of the eighties, several European and Latin American local governments began to put into practice innovating mechanisms of citizen participation in the agendas and the development of municipal public policies. This process of democratic renovation started first in Barcelona and much later in Buenos Aires. Potential causes of this bet on democratic innovation vary much according to two fundamental variables: the political-institutional context and the political culture. This Thesis dissertation presents first a detailed analysis of the relevance of the political context and its implications in the appearance and dynamics of citizen participation. Second, it offers an analysis of the cultural discourses supporting and nourishing citizen participation in both Barcelona and Buenos Aires.
