Lyrická linie sicilských prozaiků 20. století. Mytický realismus Elia Vittoriniho a jeho pokračování v dílech Bufalina, Bonaviriho a Consola / Lyrical line of the Sicilian prose writers of the 20th century. Mythical realism of Elio Vittorini and its continuation in works by Bufalino, Bonaviri and Consolo

Baroni, Sarah January 2018 (has links)
(in English) The aim of this thesis is to analyse thoroughly the mythical approach and lyrical aspects in the writings of Elio Vittorini and subsequently to find the continuation of these tendencies in works by Vincenzo Consolo, Giuseppe Bonaviri and Gesualdo Bufalino. At first we briefly described the approach of mythical realism in the Italian and Sicilian literature of 20th century as a literary topos. Afterwards we focused on the individual authors who were already shortly introduced in biographical portraits, then we made the analyses of chosen novels of those four writers where we focused on the mythical and symbolical motives and the lyrical tendencies of their prose. In conclusion we made a comparative according to the results of our previous analyses and we shortly evaluated the image of Sicily emerging from literary output of those chosen authors.

Profitability and play in urban satirical pamphlets, 1575-1625

Hasler, Rebecca Louise January 2018 (has links)
This thesis reconstructs the genre of urban satirical pamphleteering. It contends that the pamphlets of Robert Greene, Thomas Nashe, Thomas Dekker, Thomas Middleton, and Barnaby Rich are stylistically and generically akin. Writing in a relatively undefined form, these pamphleteers share an interest in describing contemporary London, and employ an experimental style characterised by its satirical energy. In addition, they negotiate a series of tensions between profitability and play. In the early modern period, ‘profit' was variously conceived as financial, moral, or rooted in public service. Pamphleteers attempted to reconcile these senses of profitability. At the same time, they produced playful works that are self-consciously mocking, that incorporate alternative perspectives, and that are generically hybrid. To varying degrees, urban satirical pamphlets can be defined in relation to the concepts of profitability and play. Chapter One introduces the concept of moral profitability through an examination of Elizabethan moralistic pamphlets. In particular, it analyses the anxious response to profitability contained in Philip Stubbes's Anatomie of Abuses (1583). Chapter Two argues that Greene disrupted appeals to totalising profitability, and instead demonstrated the alternative potential of play. Chapter Three examines Nashe's notoriously evasive pamphlets, contending that he embraced play in response to the potential profitlessness of pamphleteering. Chapter Four argues that although Dekker and Middleton rejected absolutist notions of profitability, their pamphlets redirect stylistic play towards compassionate social commentary. Finally, Chapter Five explores Rich's relocation of moralistic conventions in pamphlets that are presented as both honest and mocking. Taken as a whole, this thesis re-evaluates the style and genre of urban satirical pamphleteering. It reveals that this frequently overlooked literary form was deeply invested in defining and critiquing the purpose of literature.

Vlastní literární dílo s autorským komentářem / Personal literary writing with an authorial commentary

Wilczková, Lucie January 2017 (has links)
The Thesis Personal prose with an authorial commentary is divided into two parts. The first part consists of the personal prose called Before it Happened. This is a more perspective psychological prose from family life in which Mirek plays the lead role (is the main character). Mirek has been a more active child since his childhood. It brings to his parents a number of worries that multiply with increasing age. At the age of twelve, at the time when the story unfolds, his problems get too far and cause a number of complications in his parents' marriage as well. In the second part of the thesis the author reflects her own story. It deals, for example, with the characteristics of the individual characters, the motivation for the choice of the subject, the variants of the conclusion and the choice of the literary code and the title. Two literary criticisms and an author's statement to them form an integral part of the thesis. KEYWORDS psychological prose, Before it Happened, family relationships, troubled child, title, narration

Word order, focus, and clause linking in Greek tragic poetry

Fraser, Bruce L. January 1999 (has links)
The thesis comprises an investigation of three aspects of sentence structure in Classical Greek (henceforth CG) dramatic poetry: order of the main sentence elements (subject, verb, and object) within the clause, the emphatic position at the start of the clause, and the structure of inter-clausal linking. It is argued that these three features, usually considered separately, are interdependent, and that intra-clausal word order is directly related to the structure of compound and complex sentences. The discussion undertakes a systematic survey of subject, verb, and object order in a corpus of texts, proposes an explanation for the observed order, and develops a model which explains how prominence within the clause is exploited in clause linking to produce the complement structures observed in Homeric and tragic complementation.

Die vormende waarde van voorgeskrewe prosa en drama (Afrikaans eerste taal)

Rabe, Vena Estelle 11 February 2014 (has links)
M.Ed. (Subject Didactics) / There is growing concern that high school pupils and especially those pupils in the senior secondary phase, are no longer interested in reading ., Afrikaans books. The result is that the pupils' knowledge and understanding of literature is fast diminishing. A further consequence is that the formative possibilities that literature holds for the pupil are also lost. It can therefore be accepted that literature and the teaching of literature has a substance which contributes to the forming of young people on their way to adulthcod, A paradoxical situation prevails in that the high school pupil and specifically pupils in the senior secondary phase do not realise what formative value literature holds for him. The fact is that prescribed prose and drama hold little significance for the majority of pupils in this phase of their achonl, careers, as it is nei ther relevent nor actual. It is therefore necessary that serious attention be given to the goals we wish to achieve in the teaching of Afrikaans First Language literature. The goals we wish to achieve in the teaching of Afrikaans First Language literature (senior secondary phase) as evaluated in a curriculum rational and compared to the syllabus, results in a discrepancy between the goals (ideals), the syllabus content and the teaching (practical). The reason for this can possibly be attributed to the following factors: the syllabus content does not accommodate sufficiently the formative value of literature the criteria for prescribing prose and drama are too limited too much emphasis is placed on examination the teaching of literature is possibly too closely tied to the text * addressing of modern life situations via literature is not given sufficient recognition. From a didactical-pedagocical approach the nature of the discrepancy between goals, syllabus content and teaching have been analysed. The criteria for prescribing prose and drama have been examined and curriculum rational has been brought into line. A situation analysis as a component of curriculum rational is discussed and attention has been paid to the present situation in respect of Afrikaans First Language...

Its basis are two feminine magazines, Correio das Modas (1839- 1840) and Novo Correio de Modas (1852-1854), edited by Eduardo and Henrique Laemmert. We reconstituted the conditions of existence of these two journals, placing them within Laemmerts' publishing action, taking into consideration their production and circulation networks, and evaluating how they were related to other publications of that time. We analyzed sections dedicated to fictional prose, in which the intention of guiding the readers' behavior was proved especially evident, and where we observed the values they helped to spread. We identified the narratives these magazines disseminated, presented their origin, distinguished the national narratives from the foreign ones, and compared the translations to the original texts, highlighting changes, cuts, and additions. At last, we observed on these two journals a dialogue between foreign literature and national literature due to sharing a common theme in narratives, which were centered on moral issues / Mestrado / Historia e Historiografia Literaria / Mestra em Teoria e História Literária

O rei Lear da estepe, de Ivan Turguêniev: uma tragédia russa / The King Lear of the steppes, by Ivan Turgenev: a russian tragedy

Jéssica de Souza Farjado 17 February 2016 (has links)
This research consist of a translation of Ivan Turgenevs novel The King Lear of the steppes, published in 1870, followed by a brief commentary on the influence of the English playwrighter William Shakespeare in Russian literature. Then there is a study of the literary skaz present in the novel and styling, a stylistic feature theorized by Mikhail Bakhtin and Yury Tynyanov. Like the parody, the styling is also a recreation of a consecrated work, but rather that it does not have comic effect, but agree with the text direction in which it was inspired. Finally, there is a note about the existence of elements of Russian folklore in the text and comments on the translation based on comparison with French, English and Portuguese versions.
