Previous issue date: 2017-03-06 / Não recebi financiamento / The proposal of this research is to collect and analyze the variability of social representations about transsexuality that circulate on the internet according to the trans people themselves. The research was based on the dynamics of use that trans people make of certain digital media, specifically social networks and blogs, as a source of information, sharing, debate and socialization. Therefore, I used the online observation of blogs, pages/communities of Facebook and Youtube channels, wich are constituted as spaces of circulation of speeches about transsexuality. In dialogue with Queer Theory, Gender studies, and other digital media researches I explore the relationship between representations, corporalities, subjectivities as the transsexuality involve a cultura dynamic which is associated with modes of understand/modify bodies and subjectivities.

Previous issue date: 2009-05-20 / This research analyses some teenager travestilities in a social net in the city of Campinas, State of São Paulo, Brazil. The thesis follows a Queer theoretical approach with an ethnographic field that united observation, face to face
interviews and also via Messenger and Orkut (an online social site). It focus on new travestilities identity processes that have been built with different references in comparison to older generations of Brazilian travesties: especially less interest in following the motto of being dressed like a woman 24 hours and a restriction in the use of liquid silicon. These teenagers have tried to manipulate their social identities in a tatic and sometimes strategic way - through a process of building the feminine with the use of clothes, wigs and other accessories (montage) and taking them off to present themselves in a masculine performance (desmontagem). We adopt a historical and contextual perspective to understand how these teenager experiences marked by stigma and shame expresses ways of dealing with the closet apparatus. This
perspective also emphasizes a sociological comprehension of their subjectivities. The thesis shows a preliminary analysis of how these new body and subjective experiences constitute a mix of resistance and insertion in hegemonic codes of sexuality and gender.

The present dissertation observes an enduring social conflict in today society: the clash between the legal understanding of gender and the average person concept of gender. From the ethnographic experience in the group of University Counsel G8-Generalizando (Assessoria Jurídica Universitária G8-Generalizando – SAJU/UFRGS) the context in which there is a legal and gender discourse, in which their meanings change in time. The present dissertation also studies the history of the research field that observes the understanding of gender in the history of Brazilian legislation (such as the Statue of Married Women and the Maria da Penha Statute). The work also presents the courts understanding of laws that interprets gender issues and shows the daily clash of law and everyday meaning of gender. Finally, the dissertation shows the experience in the case-by-case research, seeking to demonstrate what happens to legal issues concerning gender that are represented by G8- Generalizando. That way the thesis demonstrates the different meanings of gender on different levels of society and the problem that it brings to the legal system.

Discourses on Lgbtq Topics in the English Language Teaching in Upper Secondary Education in SwedenStrand, Malin January 2018 (has links)
This essay looks at the discourses on lgbtq topics in English language teaching aimed at upper secondary schools in Sweden. The purpose is to find out how the discourses are created by analyzing a set of textbooks as well as interviewing teachers. The method employed in this study is critical discourse analysis supported by queer theoretical perspectives. Together these frameworks help to show how the social relationships that affect lgbtq people are affecting the educational setting in English. The study finds that a separate set of discourses appear to affect textbooks and teachers. The textbooks in this study appear to be affected by discourses that favor non-lgbtq people while the teachers in this study appear to be affected by discourses that favor lgbtq people.

SOME LIKE IT HOT: female bodies in the cinema screens has like theme the female body thought through scenes cut four movies out: Some Like It Hot (United States, 1959), directed by Billy Wilder; Transamerica (United States, 2005), by Duncan Tucker; Elvis & Madonna (Brasil,2010), by Marcelo Laffitte and La Piel que Habito (Espanha, 2011), by Pedro Almodóvar. The cinema, taken up as one of the critical spaces to explore the discourses about femininity, not only teaches the ways of experiencing it, but is a powerful space to think the sexuality and gender positions of the characters that are in the screens. So, the movies constitute a powerful instrument to suspend these same gender and sexuality positions that often establish hierarchies, binaries and tautologies between genders. Thus, this research was mobilized mainly by the following question: How dislocate through scenes of four movies the relations between femininity, body, biopower and truth? Therefore, this research was inserted in the poststructuralist analysis field. To think the female body, was adopted the Gender Studies and Queer Theory , close of Judith Butler and Michel Foucault theories, as well as, it was done some approaches to the Cultural Studies. As to methodological strategy, it was proposed a ‘scenes ethnocartography’, which is a compilation of the ‘screen ethnography’ and cartography. With the theoretical references adopted, the analytical perspective chosen and the scenes cut movies out it was possible to set four axes of analysis. In a first axis, I thought the way of female characters are manufactured in the cinema screens through lighting and colors techniques as well as the codes that governing the film industry. In a second axis, I discussed the female body as an effect of speeches. In the third axis of analysis, I discussed the articulation of the femininity with a neoliberal way of being in the world. In the last axis of analysis, I discussed the body ‘pedophilization’. Thus, the femininity was taken as a ‘biopolitics fiction’, because it can be changing from one culture to another, from one epoch to another, as to be effect of discourses, practices and knowledge.

Same-soul Desire in Late Medieval EnglandJanuary 2017 (has links)
abstract: In this study, I explore to what extent an erotic orientation toward others’ spiritual characteristics, specifically with regard to “clean” souls, was strongly idealized in at least two medieval English locales, the central Midlands and the North Riding of Yorkshire. Where a hetero-genital orientation was pervasively considered proper with regard to erotic attraction then as today, I propose that, additionally, a desire to associate on a spiritual level with not only those of the same religion but also of like spiritual purity governed desire. As I will argue, this orientation to a spiritual sameness stemmed from a meme of preferred association in life with other Christians with clean souls. I refer to this desire for association with Christian sameness as a homo-spiritual orientation. As I will argue, this homospirituality was the primary basis of erotic desire portrayed and prescribed in the evidence considered in this study. In sum, I argue that fifteenth-century English ways of knowing and feeling desire, reflected in models of desire in romance poetry in these two locales, evidences an erotic orientation based on homospiritual lines of attraction. Moreover, in each area, the models of lay homospiritual erotics were preceded by and coincided with religious writings on the subject that contributed to an overall intellectual current. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation English 2017

DOCUMENTÁRIO QUEER NO SUL DO BRASIL (2000 A 2014): NARRATIVAS CONTRASSEXUAIS E CONTRADISCIPLINARES NAS REPRESENTAÇÕES DAS PERSONAGENS LGBTPereira, Dieison Marconi 18 December 2015 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Through a queer perspective, this study aims to investigate the representations of LGBT characters
in documentaries produced in southern Brazil between 2000 and 2014. By understanding sexuality
as a historical device regulation and social order, we discussed how these films appear the
representations of gender, body and sexuality of "abject subject" and how to take or not a counteraesthetics
and resistance to sexed and gendered norms. Representations as anchors narratives
contribute to understanding the processes of imagining and recognize each other, because every
film produces representations submitted to the view of a self enunciator, that is, as others see us and
design in the film portraits. Postulate that horizon, the intention of this work unfolds in: (1)
investigate the ethical stances of the works to articulate the film universe, leading the meanings
given to LGBT characters; (2) analyze how the technical and stylistic devices used in the
documentary contribute or not to the subversions of discriminatory film portraits; and (3)
understand what are the representations that this movie has figured to establish (and down) his
speech and queer aesthetics. The choice of the timeline is justified, first, by demarcating the post
resumption of Brazilian cinema (NAGIB, 2002). Second, the emergence of a more committed
national films with various representations of LGBT people (GARCIA, 2012). Third, it is from the
year 2002 there is a greater heating of the national documentary production (Maruno, 2008). And
fourth, the configuration of the LGBT movement in the last decade, which struggle for media
spaces - including the cinema to give social existence to his speeches against hegemonic
(SIMÕES, FACHINI, 2009). 19 mapped movies, analysis procedures underlie the prior literature
and the analysis method filmic representation of LGBT characters that make up the filmic
scenarios. In the end, it was possible to infer that, in general, the mapped films and analyzed share
of an organic commitment to represent these subjects differently, developing an alternative and
opposed to negative and stereotypical representations speech, humanizing the subjects that were out
of a possible "humanity." Representing these oppositions and resistances to the discourses of
prejudiced order, the filmic representations advance, at times, for upgrades and (re) signification of
a place that would serve only to reinforce a control and exclusion strategy. However, to constantly
seek to oppose the discourses of prejudiced order, some of these movies fall into the trap of
reframing representations of these people characters in hegemonic terms, valuing speeches and
aesthetic sanitized and aseptic rather reinvent and circumvent the very discursive regime which
elects and defines how LGBT should behave to achieve a status of "viable life". While others bet on
an identity reification and some open onto views of homosexuality, travestilidade, transsexuality or
bisexuality as real critical land deconstruction of sex / gender, representing these subjects through
ethnic and identity model. However, there are those films that are not just concerned with opposing
the stereotyped portraits, to draw up a positive image of LGBT or reduce your creativity to an
identity reification. In addition, betting on a resistance representation is also counterproductive
contrasexual and queer.
queer. A escolha do espaço temporal justifica-se, primeiramente, por demarcar a pós retomada
do cinema brasileiro (NAGIB, 2002).

This research aimed to understand the way in which trans people have appropriated online spaces of interaction in order to foment political debates, and to create networks of solidarity and sociability, and in what way these interlocutions have repercussions in the formation of a political awareness of the rights of these people. To do so, I proceed from the investigation of the proliferation of these spaces, taking as a starting point a group of the Facebook platform, (but not remaining only in it), seen not only the number of members in the group, but mainly the topics often discussed and the active participation of a large number of participants in the discussions. I use multi-situational ethnography as a theoretical and methodological contribution, especially in relation to the interlinking between on and offline interactions, given that access to new technological possibilities and new spaces of discussion, associated with social and political transformations tend to to change the way in which trans people experience the meanings attributed to being and become a trans person, and to seek alternatives to coping with the mechanisms that guarantee the delimitation of spaces, dynamics and rights. Thus, in seeking to analyze the discourses that are triggered from the discussions in these spaces and the way in which they mark offline spaces of interaction, I use Queer's theoretical framework and feminist studies, as well as the anthropological socio-digital study on digital media.
