Dyslexia : an investigation of teacher awareness in mainstream high schoolsThompson, Lynette Sharon 04 1900 (has links)
The main aim of this study was to assess teachers’ awareness levels of dyslexia, their perceptions of their ability to identify and manage dyslexia, and their perceptions of the adequacy of their pre-service and in-service training in dyslexia. The sample comprised teachers at 16 mainstream high schools in the Western Cape. A Likert type scale questionnaire was used to collect data that were analysed by means of a sign test of difference and a Kruskal-Wallis test of variance. The results indicated that teachers had adequate knowledge of dyslexia, believed they are able to identify and manage dyslexia, and believed that they received little or no pre-service and in-service training in dyslexia. The main conclusion that can be drawn is that teachers need on-going adequate pre-service and in-service training in the field of dyslexia. / Department of Psychology / M.A. (Psychology)

Η διατριβή αυτή επικεντρώθηκε στη διερεύνηση της λειτουργίας των ηλεκτρονικών μετατροπέων ισχύος τοπολογίας μήτρας (matrix converters) και, ειδικότερα, των άμεσων μετατροπέων τοπολογίας μήτρας. Ο άμεσος μετατροπέας τοπολογίας μήτρας με τρία σκέλη αποτελείται από 18 τρανζίστορ ισχύος και 18 διόδους ισχύος και χρησιμοποιείται για τη μετατροπή μίας τριφασικής εναλλασσόμενης τάσης σε τριφασική εναλλασσόμενη τάση στην έξοδό του, με δυνατότητες ρύθμισης του πλάτους και της συχνότητας της τάσης εξόδου, διαμόρφωσης του ρεύματος εισόδου, ρύθμισης του συντελεστή ισχύος στην είσοδο και αμφίδρομης ροής ισχύος. Η μετατροπή αυτή γίνεται σε ένα στάδιο, χωρίς ενδιάμεσο στάδιο συνεχούς τάσης (ή συνεχούς ρεύματος), με αποτέλεσμα την αποφυγή χρήσης πυκνωτών μεγάλης χωρητικότητας και πηνίων μεγάλης επαγωγιμότητας. Οι μετατροπείς τοπολογίας μήτρας χαρακτηρίζονται από υψηλούς βαθμούς απόδοσης, υψηλές πυκνότητες ισχύος και πολύ μεγάλους λόγους ισχύος προς μάζα, ενώ το αρμονικό περιεχόμενο της τάσης εξόδου και του ρεύματος εισόδου αυτών είναι μικρό. Η πολυπλοκότητα αυτών των μετατροπέων είναι υψηλή και η δυσκολία υλοποίησής τους σημαντική.
Η διερεύνηση των άμεσων μετατροπέων τοπολογίας μήτρας στα πλαίσια της παρούσας διατριβής εστιάστηκε κυρίως στην ανάπτυξη μεθόδων διάγνωσης σφαλμάτων ανοικτοκυκλώματος που συμβαίνουν στο μετατροπέα, καθώς και στην ανάπτυξη μεθόδων παλμοδότησης αυτών που βασίζονται στη χρήση φορέα για την κανονική και επανορθωτική τους λειτουργία.
Η διατριβή αυτή περιλαμβάνει οκτώ κεφάλαια, το περιεχόμενο των οποίων περιγράφεται ακολούθως.
Στο Κεφάλαιο 1 γίνεται μία εισαγωγή στους στόχους και τη διάρθρωση της παρούσας διατριβής.
Στο Κεφάλαιο 2 γίνεται μία εισαγωγή στους ηλεκτρονικούς μετατροπείς ισχύος εναλλασσόμενης τάσης σε εναλλασσόμενη τάση μεταβλητής συχνότητας και πλάτους. Στο κεφάλαιο αυτό περιλαμβάνεται η περιγραφή και η σύγκριση διαφόρων μετατροπέων τοπολογίας μήτρας, καθώς και η περιγραφή των συμβατικών μετατροπέων που χρησιμοποιούνται για την ίδια μετατροπή τάσης και η σύγκριση τους με τις δύο βασικότερες παραλλαγές των μετατροπέων τοπολογίας μήτρας.
Στο Κεφάλαιο 3 περιγράφονται οι μέθοδοι που εφαρμόζονται για τον έλεγχο του άμεσου μετατροπέα τοπολογίας μήτρας. Συγκεκριμένα, περιγράφονται και συγκρίνονται διάφορες μέθοδοι παλμοδότησης που χρησιμοποιούνται σε αυτούς τους μετατροπείς, καθώς και οι βασικότερες μέθοδοι μετάβασης του ρεύματος. Στο κεφάλαιο αυτό περιλαμβάνεται η περιγραφή μίας νέας μεθόδου παλμοδότησης με τη χρήση φορέα που αναπτύχθηκε στα πλαίσια της παρούσας διατριβής και οδηγεί σε μειωμένες διακοπτικές απώλειες για χρήση στην περίπτωση που ο επιθυμητός λόγος μεταφοράς τάσης είναι μικρότερος ή ίσος του 50%.
Στο Κεφάλαιο 4 περιγράφονται ο άμεσος μετατροπέας τοπολογίας μήτρας που σχεδιάσθηκε και κατασκευάσθηκε στο Εργαστήριο Ηλεκτρομηχανικής Μετατροπής Ενέργειας και τα υπόλοιπα στοιχεία της πειραματικής διάταξης. Επιπρόσθετα, παρατίθενται ορισμένα αποτελέσματα πειραματικών δοκιμών που αφορούν τη λειτουργία επιμέρους τμημάτων του μετατροπέα.
Στο Κεφάλαιο 5, αρχικώς, γίνεται μία σύντομη περιγραφή του μοντέλου του υπό μελέτη συστήματος στο περιβάλλον του λογισμικού Matlab/Simulink, παρατίθενται οι τιμές διαφόρων παραμέτρων αυτού και παρουσιάζονται και σχολιάζονται αποτελέσματα προσομοιώσεων της κανονικής λειτουργίας του άμεσου μετατροπέα τοπολογίας μήτρας. Επιπρόσθετα, περιγράφεται μία μέθοδος διανυσματικού ελέγχου της ταχύτητας περιστροφής μίας ασύγχρονης μηχανής τροφοδοτούμενης από άμεσο μετατροπέα τοπολογίας μήτρας και παρουσιάζονται αποτελέσματα προσομοιώσεων της λειτουργίας ενός τέτοιου συστήματος. Τέλος, στο κεφάλαιο αυτό παρουσιάζονται και σχολιάζονται αποτελέσματα πειραματικών δοκιμών της κανονικής λειτουργίας του άμεσου μετατροπέα τοπολογίας μήτρας.
Στο Κεφάλαιο 6 εξετάζονται τα πιθανά σφάλματα στον άμεσο μετατροπέα τοπολογίας μήτρας και παρουσιάζονται αναλυτικά οι μέθοδοι διάγνωσης σφαλμάτων ανοικτοκυκλώματος και εντοπισμού ανοικτοκυκλωμένων τρανζίστορ σε αυτόν το μετατροπέα που αναπτύχθηκαν στα πλαίσια αυτής της διατριβής. Περιγράφονται, επίσης, ορισμένες τεχνικές επεξεργασίας σήματος και στοιχεία της θεωρίας των ασαφών έμπειρων συστημάτων, τα οποία χρησιμοποιούνται στις μεθόδους διάγνωσης που προτάθηκαν στα πλαίσια αυτής της διατριβής.
Στο Κεφάλαιο 7 περιγράφονται τοπολογίες και μέθοδοι παλμοδότησης για την επανορθωτική λειτουργία κινητηρίων συστημάτων με άμεσους μετατροπείς τοπολογίας μήτρας μετά την εμφάνιση σφαλμάτων στο μετατροπέα. Στο κεφάλαιο αυτό περιλαμβάνεται η περιγραφή δύο μεθόδων παλμοδότησης με χρήση φορέα για την επανορθωτική λειτουργία του άμεσου μετατροπέα τοπολογίας μήτρας μετά από ένα σφάλμα ανοικτοκυκλώματος, μία για το μετατροπέα με πρόσθετο (τέταρτο) σκέλος και μία για το μετατροπέα χωρίς πρόσθετα στοιχεία, που αναπτύχθηκαν στα πλαίσια αυτής της διατριβής.
Τέλος, στο Κεφάλαιο 8 επισημαίνεται η συμβολή της παρούσας διδακτορικής διατριβής στην έρευνα σχετικά με τους Μ.Τ.Μ., ανακεφαλαιώνονται τα αποτελέσματα αυτής και αναφέρονται σημεία που μπορούν να αποτελέσουν αντικείμενο επιστημονικής έρευνας στο μέλλον. / This thesis was focused on the research in the matrix converters domain and, particularly, in direct matrix converters. The 3-leg direct matrix converter consists of 18 power transistors and 18 power diodes and is used for the conversion of a three-phase AC voltage to a three-phase AC voltage of variable amplitude and variable frequency. This topology is also capable of modulating the input current and adjusting the input power factor, whereas bidirectional power flow is allowed. This conversion is achieved in one stage with the direct connection of the input phases with the output phases, without using an intermediate DC link stage, resulting in elimination of the use of large capacitors and large inductors. The use of the matrix topology in power converters results in high efficiency, high power density and very high power-to-mass ratio, whereas the harmonic distortion of the output voltage and the input current is low. The complexity of the matrix converters is high resulting in significant implementation effort.
In this thesis, the research in direct matrix converters was focused mainly on the development of diagnosis methods for open-circuit faults that arise in the matrix topology, as well as the development of carrier-based modulation methods for the normal and remedial operation of these converters.
This thesis contains eight chapters, the content of which is described below.
In Chapter 1 an introduction and a brief description of the aims and the structure of this thesis are provided.
In Chapter 2 an introduction to the AC-AC power converters used for the modulation of an output voltage of variable amplitude and variable frequency is provided. A description and a comparison of various matrix converter topologies, a description of the conventional topologies used for the same voltage conversion and a comparison of the latter with the two most popular matrix topologies are included in this chapter.
In Chapter 3 the methods required for the control of the direct matrix converter are presented. In detail, various modulation methods are described and compared and the most significant commutation methods are presented. In this chapter a novel carrier-based modulation method that was proposed in this work is also described which results in reduced switching losses for use in cases that the required voltage transfer ratio is up to 50%.
In Chapter 4 the direct matrix converter that was designed and constructed in this work is presented and other parts of the experimental setup are described. Additionally, some experimental results related to the operation of matrix converter parts are provided.
In Chapter 5 a brief description of the studied system’s model that was created using the Matlab/Simulink software is provided, the value of various parameters of this model is given and simulation results of the normal (healthy) operation of the matrix converter are presented and commented. Additionally, a vector control method for the speed control of an induction machine fed by a matrix converter is described and simulation results of its operation are demonstrated. Finally, experimental results of the normal operation of the matrix converter are presented and commented.
In Chapter 6 the possible faults in direct matrix converters are studied and the methods to detect open-circuit faults and the open-circuited transistors localization method that were developed in this work are presented. Additionally, a description of signal processing methods and the basic theory of fuzzy inference systems, which are used by the proposed diagnosis methods, are included.
In Chapter 7 topologies and modulation methods used for the remedial operation of the direct matrix converter after the occurrence of a fault are presented. In this chapter two carrier-based modulation methods for the remedial operation of the direct matrix converter after an open-circuit fault occurrence that were developed in this work are also described, one for the case of using a redundant (fourth) leg and one for the case of not using any redundant switches.
In Chapter 8 the contribution of this thesis to the research in the matrix converters domain is highlighted, its additional results are noted and subjects of possible future work are provided.

The goal of this project was to survey selected school systems in the State of Florida and to determine their philosophies, policies: and techniques for grading reading. The area of special concern was children reading below assigned grade level but up to potential. The focus of this paper was to identify reports to parents that dealt in a positive way with below grade level readers and allowed for effective as well as cognitive development. Positive aspects of current reports were pointed out and suggestions for improvement to better serve needs of children reading below grade level were made. Since most school systems do give grades, recommendations were made for further research and development of this project topic.

The subject of my master thesis is the EU directive 2004/35 on environmental responsibility, prevention and damage redress, its implementation into the legal order of the Czech Republic and the potential impact of undue transposition of the directive. The first part of my thesis deals with the harmonization need in this area and with the directive itself. Following a brief introduction of the directive, I'm presenting an overview of its basic institutes and their legal form. I'm also making an effort at identifying possible shortcomings of the directive. The basic institutes of the directive include: key principles, the environmental damage itself, operational activity, responsibility mechanisms, financial safeguards and the administrative procedure to impose a preventive or a remedial provisions. The target population consists of those students who read below the sixth-grade level according to the Stanford Achievement Test (SAT) scores and who are enrolled in a general science class. These students are also enrolled in a Reading Skills class and some are in the SLD and ED programs as well. Although there will be interaction with the reading, SLD, and ED teachers, the classes will not be team taught. Therefore, the science curriculum is intended to be contained within the fifty-minute sessions allowed for science classes.

Reading support for grade 3 learners in full-service schools, GautengPhala, Thembi Anastacia Lucky 08 1900 (has links)
In South Africa, the issue of learners reading below their grade level is of great concern. In order to overcome this problem, the Department of Education made it possible that learners be taught to read early in Grade 1. However, despite the learners being taught to learn to read at an early stage, numerous studies have revealed that most of the learners, including those in Grade 3, are still experiencing reading problems. The purpose of this study is to explore how Grade 3 teachers support learners who experience reading problems in Full-service schools. Full-service schools are mainstream schools that were transformed to attend to the underlying inclusive principles and to provide quality education to all learners. In this study, a qualitative approach was used to collect data at the Tshwane North District in the Gauteng Province. The interview questions were piloted with one of the Grade 3 class teachers from a neighbouring full-service school. Then after the pilot study, eleven Grade 3 class teachers and six Learner Support Teachers from three identified full-service schools were interviewed and observed in their classroom while supporting learners experiencing reading problems. The documents that they used were also analysed. To analyse the empirical data an inductive approach and the method for analysing data suggested by Creswell (2000) was followed. The findings revealed that teachers who participated in this study followed a more prescriptive approach of supporting learners who were experiencing reading problems. Furthermore, the findings revealed they used different reading strategies and reading methods even though there were some challenges that hampered the implementation of the support. The issue of differentiating and adapting the reading support to suit the diverse reading needs of learners arose from the study. This was due to the fact that most of the teachers were not trained to adapt the reading support based on the reading needs of the learners. Based on the findings, recommendations were made, and guidelines to draw up an effective reading support based on an integrated approach for Grade 3 learners who experience reading problems in full-service schools was developed. The guidelines combined two theories that underpinned the study, namely, Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory and Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory. The researcher concluded that learners’ improvement in terms of their reading abilities relies on how teachers provided support to them. Hence it is important for teachers to be equipped with sufficient skills and knowledge to provide individualised reading support to learners experiencing reading problems. / Inclusive Education / Ph. Under senare tid har allt fler företag börjat utöva verksamhet där mark nyttjas för olika aktiviteter med stöd av allemansrätten. HD har bedömt att sådant nyttjande; kanalisering, är tillåtet med stöd av allemansrätten, men uttalade i NJA 1996 s. 495 (”Forsränningsmålet”) samtidigt att nyttjandet bara är tillåtet så länge marken inte skadas. Eftersom skadeståndsfrågan aldrig har prövats i samband med allemansrätten har föremålet för denna uppsats varit att utreda möjligheterna att utfå ersättning för skador via allmänna skadeståndsrättsliga regler, skadestånds- och avhjälpandeansvaret i miljöbalken samt för intrång i äganderätten via expropriationslagen och möjligheten att få ersättning ur en försäkring. Expropriationsalternativet kan inte användas idag, eftersom marknyttjande med stöd av allemansrätten är ett icke ersättningsgillt intrång i äganderätten. Möjligheterna till att betrakta en skada på marken som en sakskada är stora. Det finns emellertid omständigheter som skapar komplikationer för båda skadeståndsansvarsformerna. En allmän skadeståndstalan kräver att culpa hos skadevållaren kan bevisas, vilket kan vara svårt när många människor vistas på en plats samtidigt. Kanalisatören kan betraktas som culpös enligt principerna om kumulativ eller anonym culpa, enligt vilka en principal blir ansvarig, trots att de individer han ansvarar för inte, var och en för sig, varit culpösa. Det miljörättsliga skadeståndsansvaret bygger på ersättning för störningar som inte är orts- eller allmänvanliga. När det gäller allemansrättsligt nyttjande torde många störningar betraktas som just orts- eller allmänvanliga. Avhjälpandeansvaret i miljöbalken bygger på ersättning för miljöfarlig verksamhet, och det är tveksamt om det kan tillämpas på kanalisatörens verksamhet. Expropriationsersättning på grund av allemansrättsligt nyttjande tillerkänns inte markägaren enligt gällande rätt, vilket kan tyckas märkligt eftersom många nyttjandeformer som påminner om allemansrätten, t.ex. servitut, medför sådan ersättningsrätt. Det finns vissa möjligheter att ersätta markskador ur försäkringar. Dock är de flesta skador följden av invasionsproblematik, som är mycket svårt försäkra. Samtliga ersättningsformer har visat sig otillräckliga för att ersätta skador som är estetiska och ideella, eftersom sådana skador inte kan beräknas i pengar. Beroende på hur marknyttjande med stöd av allemansrätten betraktas har man olika åsikt om i vad mån kanalisatören borde ersätta markägaren för skador på marken. Om nyttjandet uppfattas som någonting som finns vid sidan av markäganderätten är endast konkreta skador ersättningsgilla. Om man anser att nyttjandet är ett intrång i äganderätten och en förmögenhetsöverföring från markägaren till kanalisatören bör emellertid redan rätten att nyttja marken föranleda ersättning. Den ersättningsform som bäst tillgodoser markägarens intresse av att få skador på marken åtgärdade och få ersättning för ekonomisk förlust är avhjälpandeansvaret. Endast det ansvaret reparerar till fullo skador på miljön. Det krävs emellertid ett domstolsavgörande för att slutligen klargöra avhjälpandeansvarets tillämplighet. / Recently, more and more companies have come to exercise activities under the right of public access on land that belongs to whomever. The High Court has assessed that such use of land; channeling, is permitted, but in NJA 1996 s. 495 (“The Rafting Case”) also announced that this use is only allowed as long as the land remains unharmed. Since the question of damages in the context of the right of public access has not yet been treated in jurisprudence, the object of this thesis has been to investigate the possibilities to obtain restitution for damages via tort law, liability under the environment act as well as for proprietary intrusions under the expropriation act and restitution via insurance. Expropriation, however, cannot currently be made use of, since the right of public access is an intrusion which does not entail restitution. There are extensive possibilities for considering damage to the land as damage to property. However, there are ramifications for both the legal options for damages: the tort law and the environmental act. The tort law requires tortuous behaviour from the tortfeasor to be established, which is difficult when several persons stay at one place simultaneously. The canalizer may be considered tortuous under the principle of vicarious liability and cumulative or anonymous tort. According to these principles, the canalizer is responsible for the actions of certain individuals, even though they have not, individually, been negligent. The environmental liability for damage is based on restitution for disturbances that are not common to the place nor to the general public. This fact is difficult to establish in the context of the right of public access. The remedial responsibility of the environmental act is constructed for operations that are harmful to the environment, which is why it is dubious whether the responsibility is applicable to the canalizer’s activities. Currently, compensation for expropriation cannot result of use of land under the right of public access. This is peculiar, since many usufructs reminiscent of the right of public access, i.e. the easement, result in such compensation. Some forms of damage to the land can be insured. Although, most damage in this context arise from invasion, a cause of damage which is nearly impossible to insure. All forms of restitution have proven insufficient for compensating damage that is esthetic or otherwise non-pecuniary. Depending on if the right of public access is regarded as proprietary intrusion or something that exists alongside the right to property, one comes to different conclusions about the extent of compensation for damage. In the former case, only substantial damage is compensable. In the latter case, even the right to use the land occasions compensation. The liability which best meets the needs of the proprietor: compensation and restoration of damage to his property, is the remedial responsibility of the environmental code. This responsibility alone fully restores harm to the environment. However, the applicability of the remedial responsibility needs to be established in jurisprudence.

Evaluation of intervention programmes is essential to adduce evidential information on their implementation, delivery and effectiveness. Evaluation of programmes is conducted for various reasons: to identify provision of programme services and ways to improve the programme, to judge programme merit and to generate knowledge about programme functioning. Process evaluation explains the operation of the programme, service delivery and the utilisation of resources with a view to continuous improvement. However, process evaluation has been neglected despite the significant role it plays in the continuum of evaluation strategies. In South Africa, the poor performance of Grade 12 learners has led to the introduction of the Secondary School Intervention Programme (SSIP) to reduce the number of failures in the matriculation examination and improve the results, particularly in underperforming secondary schools. This study evaluated the delivery of the SSIP in the Tshwane West district through process evaluation using qualitative research methods. As part of the evaluation, relevant records and SSIP documents, which yielded information on the participating schools, learner attendance, the tutors and their qualifications were examined.
During the course of the fieldwork, 10 lesson presentations were observed and 10 tutors were interviewed immediately thereafter. Ten learners, the Programme Coordinator and 3 site managers volunteered for interviews about the programme. Findings indicated the necessity of tutor training in the use of the programme materials and frequent assessment of learners to determine improvements in learner performance. The SSIP should focus not only on improving matriculation results but also on the education and professional development of educators. To enhance effective programme delivery, innovative and modern teaching resources, such as computers to access the internet and other technologies, should be introduced. Based on the findings, it was recommended that SSIP should not be confined to underperforming schools but should be extended to other schools as well. Learner feedback on strengths and weaknesses in the programme and how the latter can be remedied will contribute to programme improvement. Finally, this study reflects the need to adopt process evaluation as a significant component of evaluation and advocates further research conducted on other areas of evaluation. / Curriculum and Instructional Studies / D. The Full-Service Schools (FSS) being part of the support strategy as denoted by Education White Paper 6 are primary schools that are equipped with most resources including Information Communication Technologies (ICTs). For this reason, they were selected so that the perceptions and experiences of their School-Based Support Team (SBST) members and Learning Support Educators (LSEs) can be explored, described and be explained when supporting learners experiencing reading difficulties. Through the concurrent triangulation mixed methods design data was collected using both quantitative and qualitative methods (that is the structured questionnaire, focus group interviews and official documents). The collected data was analysed through mixed analysis and merged to corroborate the findings from quantitative and qualitative data. Findings indicated that there was a small statistically significant difference in the reading performance of participants who were exposed to ICTs as a support mechanism for learners experiencing reading difficulties in the FSS. The slight improvement can be attributed to lack of ICTs guidelines for supporting learners experiencing reading difficulties, limited teacher training on ICTs and the limited use of the ICTs. In conclusion, the ICTs scaffolding guideline for teachers to support leaners experiencing reading difficulties was developed. The guideline incorporated the three theories that unpinned this study namely the social interaction part of Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory, the readers-response theory and e-reading theory. Throughout the ICTs scaffolding guideline, electronic text feature as part of the e-reading theory. It is the eradication of reading difficulties that can improve the learners’ confidence which in turn will have a positive effect on their academic performance on some or all of the subjects. / Psychology of Education / D. Detta arbete har utforskat interaktionen mellan människa och automation inom det avhjälpande underhållet på två tillverkande företag. Arbetets syfte är bidra till att människor och automationsutrustningar framgångsrikt kan samarbeta i framtidens fabriker. Studien har undersökt hur interaktionen ser ut i dagsläget, var det idag saknas interaktion, hur interaktionen kan komma att se ut i framtiden samt vilka krav som behöver uppnås för att komma dit. Studien har också haft ett fokus på hållbar utveckling och hur interaktionen kan påverka denna. Projektets resultat är framtaget genom att utföra två deltagande observationer, en på vartdera företaget samt fyra semistrukturerade intervjuer per företag. I dagsläget sker mycket kommunikation genom telefon för att påkalla uppmärksamhet hos personal med information om larm och plats. Felsökning sker genom en panel vid maskinen alternativt via dator som kopplas upp mot maskinen vid djupare felsökning. Det finns i dagsläget även teknik såsom kommunikationsradio, tangentbord och mus som undviks att användas i största möjliga mån eftersom de anses vara svåra att manövrera. Resultaten visar att det finns ett behov av att få mer information i underhållets alla faser och att tekniken som används behöver vara mer mobil än i dagsläget. Författarna ger förslag på att handhållna enheter kan användas i framtidens underhåll och att röstigenkänning, Virtual Reality och Augmented Reality kan användas i dessa. Även smarta klockor rekommenderas att användas för att påkalla uppmärksamhet hos personal och samtidigt ge information om larm. Det finns en förhoppning om att mer information och mer mobil teknik kan effektivisera underhållet och därmed minska tiden för att utföra ett avhjälpande underhåll. Författarna rekommenderar starkt att all teknik som är tänkt att bli implementerad först testas i en realistisk miljö av de personer som ska använda tekniken. / The project has explored the interaction between humans and automation within the remedial maintenance on two manufacturing companies. The purpose of the project is to contribute to the interaction between humans and automation and by that make it successful in the future. The study has investigated how the present interaction is designed, where there is a need for interaction, how the interaction can be designed in the future together with the requirements that will need to be achieved to get there. In this study there is also a focus on sustainable development and how the interaction affects it. The result of the project is produced by performing two attendance observations, one at each company and four semi-structured interviews at each company. Today a lot of communication is done by phone to get the attention of personnel and summon them to the machine that has stopped. The troubleshooting of the machine is done in a panel or with a computer if deeper troubleshooting is needed. The computer needs to be connected to the machine. Today there are some technics that are present but these are not used due to the fact that they are perceived tedious to use. These technics are communication radio, mouse and keyboard. The result of the study indicates that there is a need for more information in all the phases of a remedial maintenance work. It also shows that the technics needs to be more mobile compared to how it is today. The authors recommends that handheld devices are used in the future and that softwares such as voice recognition, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality are used within the handheld devices. Smartwatches are also interesting in an attention point of view where alarm messages can be shown. There is a belief that with more information and more mobility the maintenance will be more effective in the future and that the time for remedial maintenance will reduce. The authors strongly recommend that all technics that will be implemented need to first be tested in a realistic environment and by the people that should use it.
