[en] COMPETENCE AND TEMPORALITY IN ROUTINES: UNVEILING COMPETENCE IN THE USE OF TIME IN COMPANIES OF THE INNOVATION ECOSYSTEM / [pt] COMPETÊNCIA E TEMPORALIDADE NAS ROTINAS: DESVELANDO A COMPETÊNCIA NO USO DO TEMPO EM EMPRESAS DO ECOSSISTEMA DE INOVAÇÃO

30 September 2021 (has links)
[en] Organizations have been going through significant changes driven by technology, impacting markets, society and, particularly, professions. (FARAJ et al., 2018). High Growth Firms, investment funds and accelerators have become important vectors of capital and jobs (ISENBERG, 2013; IBGE, 2017). Success in this so-called innovation and new businesses ecosystem is mainly measured by the speed of growth, the ability to anticipate products and processes, and the velocity to dominate new markets (JOHNSON and LAFLEY, 2010; SALVATO and RERUP, 2018). These are characteristics that influence the temporal notions of organizational actors, affecting their perceptions of competence and expectations response times (D ADDERIO et al, 2019; ORLIKOWSKI and SCOTT, 2016). This study draws from the experience of professionals in this ecosystem to, in the light of a phenomenographic and process approach (LANGLEY and TSOUKAS, 2010), understand how competence in the use of time is perceived in organizational routines pressured by innovation and growth. Three ways in which the phenomenon is conceived by those who experience it were identified: Optimizing activities; Accomplishing goals; and Exploring possibilities. In the outcome space, six dimensions that structure and distinguish the conceptions were identified.: horizon of the attention, temporal artifacts, competence reference, prioritized organizational objectives, level of competence, and temporal focus. The findings suggest that innovation and growth influence the concept of competence in the use of time in different ways. From them, a theoretical model on the relationship between temporalities, artifacts and sensemaking in the generation of generative learning cycles was proposed. It is also added that phenomenography was considered as a suitable alternative to discuss current theories about temporality in organizations.

Routine activity extraction from local alignments in mobile phone context data / Une approche d'alignement à la problématique de la détection des activités habituelles

Moritz, Rick Patrick Constantin 05 February 2014 (has links)
Humans are creatures of habit, often developing a routine for their day-to-day life. We propose a way to identify routine as regularities extracted from the context data of mobile phones. We choose Lecroq et al.'s existing state of the art algorithm as basis for a set of modifications that render it suitable for the task. Our approach searches alignments in sequences of n-tuples of context data, which correspond to the user traces of routine activity. Our key enhancements to this algorithm are exploiting the sequential nature of the data an early maximisation approach. We develop a generator of context-like data to allow us to evaluate our approach. Additionally, we collect and manually annotate a mobile phone context dataset to facilitate the evaluation of our algorithm. The results allow us to validate the concept of our approach.

Our project seeks to develop a business idea based on the problem that we have detected due to the State of Emergency that we are experiencing due to the worldwide spread of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Due to the current situation, many gyms around the world have had a relevant impact, even more so those that did not have some kind of virtual platform for those people who due to lack of time could not attend establishments dedicated to physical exercise. A problem has been identified for those who want to maintain a healthy life, but do not have the necessary knowledge to maintain an exercise routine at home or an adequate eating plan. Similarly, during this pandemic, mental health is one of the most prominent issues. It is important to mention that what is planned is to take advantage of the problematic context experienced on a day-to-day basis, in order to provide adequate solutions that generate real benefits for the people who will be part of them. This project is divided into two stages. In the first stage, the validation of the problem is described through interviews with the target audience and experts related to the subject. In the second stage, you will focus on developing the business idea and determining the incorporation of the company. Within the analysis developed, the importance of the operations and marketing implemented is highlighted. Our differential is the customization factor in each plan offered. / Trabajo de investigación

[pt] A ESCOLA NÃO É UM LUGAR FÁCIL... NÃO MESMO!: BULLYING, NÃO-RECONHECIMENTO DA DIFERENÇA E BANALIDADE DO MAL / [en] THE SCHOOL IS NOT AN EASY PLACE ... NOT EVEN!: BULLYING, NON-RECOGNITION OF DIFFERENCE AND THE BANALITY OF EVIL

PAMELA SUELLI DA MOTTA ESTEVES 10 March 2016 (has links)
[en] This is a qualitative study on school violence. This research aimed at knowing, interpreting and comprehending the aggressive actions also known as bullying that happen among peers. This work took place at a public high school in the state of Rio de Janeiro. We intended to investigate the teachers and students perceptions concerning bullying as a type of school violence. Our hypothesis was that higher rates of bullying actions are related to the students difficulties at recognizing and dealing with cultural and identity difference that is built and rebuilt in the school environment. In order to comprehend the motives that were behind those aggressive actions, we investigated bullying as intolerance towards difference. We perceived that intolerance to difference is not enough to explain the severity of these aggressive acts. Thus, we investigated bulling as a maliciously trivial behavior. The source of this kind of behavior is a result of the inability to think and to reflect upon the meaning and the consequences of those aggressive acts. This inability is also a result of a modern society project that does not give the right value to an educational approach aimed at thinking and reflecting. We considered that intolerance and the banality of evil as expressions that motivate and explain bullying. We use the Theory of recognition by Charles Taylor and Axel Honnet and the concept of banality of evil by Hanna Arendt as a basis to our main hypothesis. As our methodological choices, we have had an extensive literature review, along with field observation, questionnaires and semistructured interviews with eight teachers and ten students who volunteered. As a conclusion to this work, we found that students know what bullying is, they know the practice and they are affected by this kind of violence, however they do not completely trust on their school asan institution that could be able to help them face the problem. Teachers know how to identify the bullying cases, but they do not mind comprehending the reasons that lead to those actions. At most, they think of some strategies in order to face the problem. The school management denies that bullying occurs and interprets these conflicts and aggressions as routineplays that normally take place at school. This research also pointed out that bullying is a sidelined and a trivialized theme at school.

Van Hiele theory-based instruction, geometric proof competence and grade 11 students' reflections

Machisi, Eric 08 1900 (has links)
This study sought to (a) investigate the effect of Van Hiele theory-based instruction on Grade 11 students’ geometric proofs learning achievement, (b) explore students’ views on their geometry learning experiences, and (c) develop a framework for better teaching and learning of Grade 11 Euclidean geometry theorems and non-routine geometric proofs. The study is based on Van Hiele’s theory of geometric thinking. The research involved a convenience sample of 186 Grade 11 students from four matched secondary schools in the Capricorn district of Limpopo province, South Africa. The study employed a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design, which combined quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. In the quantitative phase, a non-equivalent groups quasi-experiment was conducted. A Geometry Proof Test was used to assess students’ geometric proof construction abilities before and after the teaching experiment. Data analysis using non-parametric analysis of covariance revealed that students from the experimental group of schools performed significantly better than their counterparts from control group schools. In the qualitative phase, data were collected using focus group discussions and students’ diary records. Results revealed that the experimental group students had positive views on their geometry learning experiences, whereas students from the control group of schools expressed negative views towards the teaching of Euclidean geometry and geometric proofs in their mathematics classes. Based on the quantitative and qualitative data findings, it was concluded that in addition to organizing instruction according to the Van Hiele theory, teachers should listen to students’ voices and adjust their pedagogical practices to meet the expectations of a diverse group of students in the mathematics class. A framework for better teaching and learning of Grade 11 Euclidean geometry theorems and non-routine geometric proofs was thus developed, integrating students’ views and Van Hiele theory-based instruction. The study recommends that teachers should adopt the modified Van Hiele theory-based framework to enhance students’ mastery of non-routine geometric proofs in secondary schools.

Trends of gravity wave flux over Collm

Geißler, Christoph, Jacobi, Christoph, Yiğit, Erdal 15 March 2021 (has links)
With the help of MERRA-2 (Modern-Era Retrospective Analysis for Research and Application, version 2) reanalysis data of the zonal wind, measurements of the mesopause region wind over Collm by low-frequency observations, and data of the Horizontal Wind Model, a height profile for the zonal wind in January and July was created by linear interpolation over altitude. Subsequently, three different 5-year periods (1980-1984, 1994-1998 und 1999-2003) were selected, and the obtained wind profiles and NRLMSISE (Naval Research Labatory Mass Spectrometer Incoherent Scatter, Extended) temperatures (January and July) were averaged over these time intervals. This allowed to run the whole atmosphere nonlinear spectral gravity wave (GW) routine of Yiğit et al. (2008) with these data as background profiles. We obtained a height profile of the GW momentum flux (MF) over these three 5-year periods. Based on this, the long-term tendencies of GW MF are estimated and in this way a statement about the trend of the GW activity in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere can be made. GW MF increases in magnitude in both summer and winter. The results are in qualitative agreement with trends of GW proxies obtained from the meteor radar measurements at Collm.

E-Victims: : Explaining Online Victimization For The Cases Of Cyberbullying And Cyberstalking

MALAKI, ZOI January 2021 (has links)
Internet has become a great part of our daily routines giving us the ability to perform various actions in many aspects of our personal and social life. The new available opportunities provided with the Internet enhancement have opened a great space for improvement in our lives but they have also provided space for new types of criminal behaviour to occur. Cyberbullying and cyberstalking are part of the wide range of criminal behaviors performed through an online device. The presence of online criminal behavior is accompanied by the increase on the online victimization rates. The aim of this paper is to explain online victimization performed through cyberbullying and cyberstalking based on the theories of routine activity, social learning and victim precipitation. The results show that online victimization is closely connected with the daily routines that individuals have accompanied by the interactions and associations that are performed during our social life who also influence the practise of online victimization. Anonymity is a commonly found factor almost always present and plays an important role on explaining the behavior itself for both the offender and the victim's side. Overall the findings show that both online offenders and online victims of cyberbullying and cyberstalking are given more engagement opportunities in the criminal act due to the constant usage and the inclusion of online devices in theor daily routines. The above accompanied with the anonymity and opportunity provided by cyberspace ease the " performance" of cyber victimization.

The Final hour : Pre-performance preparation for opera singers

Mangou, Serafeia January 2023 (has links)
This master thesis investigates the pre-performance preparation of classical singers during the final hour before a performance. Through a mixed-methods approach, data was collected from personal reflections and survey data. The results suggest that the majority of the opera singers choose to engage in different activities during the final hour before a performance, with individualized ordering and prioritization of their pre-performance activities and preparations. The survey data analysis showed some similar attributes between the singers engaging in memory recall techniques, those with low levels of anxiety performance, and those who report feeling ready and prepared before a performance. No significant similarities seem to be, however, among singers that follow a set of rituals or a structured pre-performance routine and those reporting that experience stress before performances. Additionally, the study highlights the importance of having a pre-performance routine for me as performer, singer and artist, because it enhances my commitment, self-confidence and improves the  overall quality of my performances. The artistic outcome of my research consists of two parts: firstly, my established pre-performance routine, which I consistently followed prior to every performance during the study period; and secondly, the video recordings of my graduation concert and other performances completed during the study. The findings of this master thesis have implications for classical singers who wish to follow a professional career and improve the quality of their performances.

The Effect of the Alcohol Prohibition on the Number of Assault Crimes and the Police Employees tasks of Employment : From a Local Perspective

Svensson, Michelle, Bengtsson, Evelina January 2021 (has links)
Due to the Covid-19 the Swedish governement introduced an alcohol prohibition in an aim to reduce the spread of infection in Sweden. Previous research demonstrates that there is a conjunction between alcohol use and violent crimes. It is therefore of interest to investigate what impact the alcohol prohibition has had on the amount of assault crimes in the public environment in Lund and how it eventually have effected operational police officers and strategic police officers tasks of employment. The number of reported crimes and selfreported assault crimes has decreased between 2017 and 2021. The police officers tasks of employment differ because some have a operational focus and others have a strategical focus. The results in this study demonstrates that the assault crimes have decreased, both from statistics from the police department and police officers experience. From the five semistructured interviews it turned out that the operational police officers tasks of employment has changed more than strategical police officers. Both the strategical and the operational police officers perform restaurant-related tasks to a lesser extent and more time can be set aside for other relevant tasks. The operational police officers handle and prevent a large number of juvenile- and drugcrimes while the strategical police officers to a greater extent work with neighborhood cooperation and to promote the network of contact with the local community.

[pt] NINGUÉM QUER SER JURADO: UMA ETNOGRAFIA DA PARTICIPAÇÃO DOS JURADOS NO TRIBUNAL DO JÚRI / [en] NOBODY WANTS TO BE A JUROR: AN ETHNOGRAPHY OF JUROR S PARTICIPATION IN JURY

FABIO FERRAZ DE ALMEIDA 10 August 2020 (has links)
[en] This research examines the participation of jurors in the jury. Whether in the legal research field empirical research is neglected, in the social sciences the studies disregard the practical aspect of court staff s work, emphasizing the trial sessions. This text, therefore, is mainly concerned in understanding how the jury is socially constructed, through the people s ordinary actions. The fieldwork consisted of participant observation in the jury of Juiz de Fora / MG and interviews with jurors. Through the analysis of the organization of court staff s daily work, it is clear that jurors role in these routines is secondary, both the tasks performed, and the way they express themselves throughout jury s procedures. These routines - among which are included mechanisms for selecting jurors and voting the items - are built to make the institution work. However, as people are not interested in participating, court staff must make efforts to select jurors, trying to make the jury actually happen. In this scenario, there are experienced jurors, who have a predilection of the judge because they place themselves at the disposal of the court. Nonetheless, they have little to do with popular participation in justice, as they use strategies of legitimation and identity formation, like creating a jurors association.
