The storytelling as a pedagogical strategy in the stimulation of oral and written language of children with learning difficulties

Lopes, Claudia Regina Matas 16 February 2017 (has links)
The objective of this research was to elaborate and verify the effectiveness of a pedagogical intervention program based on the resources of Children\'s Literature and storytelling for children with learning difficulties and indicated to participate in the Pedagogical Support Room (Reinforcement). This Program has demonstrated the importance of pedagogical practices in the classroom, which combine literature and literacy to improve reading, oral and written language of schoolchildren. An intervention program using Children\'s Literature and storytelling, was applied in 20 children from 7 to 10 years old, of both genders, divided into G1 (10 children) and G2 (10 children) paired by sex. Both groups had learning difficulties reported by teachers in regular classrooms and attended the Pedagogical Support Room (Reinforcement) of a Municipal School of Elementary Education in the interior of São Paulo. The children of the G1 were exposed in principle to the pedagogical intervention. The children of G2 were not exposed to the intervention principle, but due to ethical reasons, they were submitted to it after the end of the Program. This program consists of 14 sessions of weekly attendance, lasting approximately 60 minutes in each session to be held in the Pedagogic Support Room (Reinforcement) with the presence and active participation of teachers in this room. Before and after the application of the Program, tests were carried out to evaluate the level of writing, language and reading of the students, as well as evaluation of the performance of each of them by the regular classroom teacher that they attended, to verify There was an improvement in their learning. Therefore, this study implemented a Pedagogical Intervention Program and demonstrated its applicability and effectiveness by verifying that students with learning problems presented academic improvement in reading, oral language and mainly in written language.

Hur förskolans värdegrund synliggörs i barnlitteratur : En analys av fyra bilderböcker / How pre-school values are made visible in children´s literature : An analysis of four picture books

Berggren, Josefine January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate how pre-school values makes visible in children´s literature. Thereby the study adds more knowledge of which norms and values the children meet through children´s literature. To achieve the purpose, I have chosen to analyse four picture books written 2012 and 2016. The publishing years are chosen so that the books in an accurate way can describe the norms and values we see today. The results show that we in children´s literature can see the basic democratic values on which the preschool´s values rests. The characters in the picture books shows good examples of values such as care, respect, solidarity, participation, equality and human dignity. However, values such as discipline and integrity are usually portrayed by the fact that the characters first make mistakes and then correct them to desired behaviours around these values. The most obvious norm in the analysed picture books were the norm of gender. In particular, we see how this norm is challenged and questioned by the fact that several of the girls are portrayed with male characteristics and that the boys discuss what is considered typically male and female.

Another field of study which lacks further research is the translation of contemporary children s literature in Brazil. The present work intends to analyze how the linguistic variations are organized in the translation of a children s book. The corpus is the contemporary book series The Adventures of Captain Underpants (1997) (in Brazil, As aventuras do Capitão Cueca, 2001). The study of this book series targets to understand how linguistic variations take place in the translation process, especially the diastratic variation focusing on child language. The original and the translated books are analyzed and compared so that the coherence of terms and resources can be observed with emphasis on slang and child language , as different books from the series were translated by different translators. The theoretical principles come from Translation Studies, Sociolinguistics and Literacy.

Masculinities in Kiswahili children's literature in Kenya

Onyango, James Ogola 14 August 2012 (has links) (PDF)
Children's literature affects the child's socialisation process, including the shaping the gender roles. But despite this, up to now children have featured less in gender scholarship. Against this backround, this paper seeks to critically interrogate the physical, social, economic and political manifestations of masculinities in selected Kiswahili children\'s books from Kenya. By analysing these works, we hope to demonstrate that power and ideological aspects of masculinites are rooted at childhood. Since special attention will be paid to the ideological and power basis of the masculinities, the analysis of the selected works is done in the encompassing prism of Critical Discourse Analysis revealing hegemonic masculinities.

Hur skildras skogsmiljöer i barnlitteratur? : En innehållsanalys av barnlitteratur publicerad mellan år 1900–2021 / How are forest environments depicted in children’s literature? : A content analysis of children’s literature published between the years of 1900 - 2021

Salomonsson, Felicia, Skog, Ingrid January 2021 (has links)
The aim of this study is to contribute with knowledge about how forest environments are depicted in children’s literature that is published between the years of 1900-2021 and if there is anything that has changed. A conventional content analysis has been used to answer the aim of the study. In total, 18 children’s books have been analyzed, equally distributed between the timeframes: 1900-1949, 1950-1999 and 2000-2021. The result indicates that above all, there are several areas that hold differences between the timeframes. The forest environment was once very central in the books and now appears more distant from humans. Another clear difference is how different species used to be described with words embedded with value that is now described more factually. Anthropomorphism has been very evident in children’s literature but is slowly starting to disappear in newer books. The result also shows that an anthropocentric perspective, where the human is central, dominates in these children’s books. The study provides knowledge on what the reader will meet in children’s literature and suggests that it can be of importance to reflect over the content within the children’s literature that is being used in a childcare setting and preschool education

[pt] AS TEIAS NARRATIVAS DE ROGER MELLO E SUAS EXPERIMENTAÇÕES ESTÉTICAS EM UMA ESCRITA PARA CRIANÇAS NO CONTEMPORÂNEO / [en] NARRATIVE WEBS AND AESTHETIC EXPERIMENTATION IN ROGER MELLO S CONTEMPORARY CHILDREN S WRITING

LUCIANA BORGES CONTI TAVARES 10 December 2020 (has links)
[en] This dissertation investigates the textual and imagistic writing of Brazilian author and illustrator Roger Mello. The work attempts to identify and discuss the forms of aesthetic experimentation which, in Mello s literature, capitalize on the slippery, ever-shifting meanings of words and images. It also examines how Mello s production blurs the boundaries between real and imaginary, past and present. To achieve such goals, the study turns to five of the author s more than 100 published works: Todo cuidado é pouco (You Can t Be Too Careful ) (1999), Meninos do Mangue (Mangrove Children) (2001), Zubair e os labirintos (Zubair and the Labyrinths) (2007), Contradança (Counter-dance) (2011) and João por um fio (João by a Thread) (2012). The corpus provides answers to the overarching question guiding this study, namely, how does Roger Mello s literature magnify readers experiences with verbal-visual language, suggesting new affects for children and young people? The analysis reveals that the author, in his search for contemporary forms of storytelling with which to narrate a range of different childhoods, artfully instills tension into language itself. The dissertation looks into the relationship between Roger Mello s narratives and the unsteady terrain of childhood, where things of the world are freed from rigid spatial, temporal and definitional meanings.

Litteratur som undervisningsverktyg i förskolan : Undervisning av naturvetenskap med Lilla Bokbryggan som utgångspunkt / Literature as a teaching tool in preschool : Teaching science with Lilla Bokbryggan as a starting point

Andersson, Fannie, Ekstrand, Ida January 2023 (has links)
Our purpose with the study is to contribute with knowledge about how preschool teachers use children's literature in the teaching of science subjects. In this study, we have taken a closer look at how preschool teachers teach science with the project Lilla Bokbryggan as a starting point. The study uses a phenomenographic approach whose starting point is to find out people's perceptions of a phenomenon, in order to highlight variations about the phenomenon. To find answers to our research questions, we conducted semi-structured interviews with two preschool teachers, a principal, a coordinator and a teacher educator. All informants have good insight into Lilla Bokbryggan. The results of the study show that children's literature is a good base for teaching about science subjects, when done in a conscious way. It appears that the project Lilla Bokbryggan enables preschool teachers to increase children's interest in books. The results of the study also show that the project has opened up for important collaborations that benefit the participants.

Dětská literatura jako prostředek manipulativního šíření ideologie / 'But it's only a children's book' - children's literature as a vehicle of manipulative ideological dissemination

Moravčíková, Hana January 2015 (has links)
The historical era between 1850 and 1950 is known to be a turbulent period reflected not only in adult literature but also in the texts written for children. This unusually rich period in terms of political, social and ideological development certainly influenced most parts of the world. However, it was particularly important for England mainly for the transition of the Victorian era and Edwardian period to the modern history initiated by the WW I. Throughout this period many new ideologies arose and scientific discoveries were more numerous than ever. In 1859, for instance, Darwin's On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection was published and initiated the still on-going war period between Christianity and science. At the same time, the concept of childhood started to be understood in a different way and books written for children became a common commodity converting the end of 18th century in the Golden Age of children's literature. However, according to Peter Hunt's publication Understanding Children's Literature, 'all texts are inevitably infused by ideologies'. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is firstly, to study the way in which ideologies are incorporated in the texts for children (overt or covert) and secondly, the extent to which the texts for children become a vehicle of...

En diskursiv läsning av artiklar i Biblioteksbladet 1930-2007 / Changing viewpoints of booktalk aimed at kids and youngsters. A discursive reading of articles in Biblioteksbladet 1932-2007

Kamienski, Per-Jakob January 2010 (has links)
My thesis is a study of how the perception of booktalk aimed at kids and youngsters in the Swedish educational system has changed between 1932 and 2007. A discursive reading of articles in the magazine Biblioteksbladet provides the basis for my investigation. The thesis argues that an older "authoritaritan" and "traditional" discourse has given way for a more modern, "anti-authoritaritan" and "lust"-directed discourse. The older discourse was designed to make sure that young people were provided with a certain well-defined quantity of "approved" literature. The new discourse stresses the importance of fostering kids and youngsters with a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards reading in general. However the new discoruse is not without conflicts of its own, som e of which are addressed in this thesis. In order to provide for a basis of method concerning the making of a discursive reading of the articles of Biblioteksbladet included in the investigation are several discourse analytical perspectives such as amongst others that of Michel Foucault discussed in the thesis.
