The Meal; nourishment for togetherness : A qualitative study on how the elderly experience the meals in a sheltered housing

Falk, Amelia, Connedal, Elin January 2014 (has links)
The aim of our study was to examine how the elderly experience their meal situation in a sheltered housing. We have used a qualitative approach. We conducted individual interviews with six elderly in a sheltered housing to collect our empirical material. To reach the purpose of this study we tried to answer the questions: which factors affect the elderly person’s experience of the meal and which significance does the meal have for the elderly? To reach deeper understanding for our collected material we used Maslow’s theory of human motivation, the two concepts of Tönnies; gemeinschaft and gesellschaft, disengagement theory and the concept of Bourdieu, called habitus. Our result shows that five factors have impact on how the elderly experience their meals. These are: Acceptance and means that the elderly accept their situation and are therefore satisfied with the conditions they have concerning the meals. The food with its taste, aroma, appearance and variety. There was disagreement among the respondents about how the food was experienced and in which way it affected their meals. The factor influence was also found to be significant. The more influence and the more opportunities to make their own choices, the more positive were the elderly’s experiences. The room environment includes the dining room at the sheltered housing, which were where all the respondents chose to eat. The design, décor and noise level in the dining room were found to be of significance. The final factor that were identified was the meeting. The factor includes the relationships and interactions that are created in the dining room between the elderly and the staff, but also among the elderly themselves. The result also showed that the meal means an opportunity to satisfy the hunger, a time for togetherness and a pleasant break from the daily (non-) routines.

Hodnocení kvality sociální služby z pohledu uživatele / Evaluation of the quality of social service by the service user

Holubová, Alena January 2021 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the analysis and evaluation of existing methods of evaluating the quality of social services in a particular organization. As part of the analysis, a change in the process of improving quality will be proposed, primarily by proposing innovative methods of involving clients of sheltered housing in the evaluation of the service. The aim of this work is to propose methods of effective involvement of clients of sheltered housing in the evaluation of the quality of social services. These innovative methods with elements of social service user participation can serve as specific recommendations for creating a methodology for user participation in the process of evaluating and improving services. As part of the provision of social services, it is necessary to look for ways to work with the specific abilities and needs of clients and find innovative ways to involve service clients in the entire process of evaluation and measurement of quality. The basis of the innovative method is the empowerment, cooperation, and integration of clients into the entire process, which can then positively affect the direction of social services. Keywords: evaluation of the quality of social services, participation, empowerment, sheltered housing

Staxlund, Jenny January 2018 (has links)
Background: Children who grow up in families where violence prevails at home is in a traumatic situation and is at increased risk of developing mental health issues. Some of the exposed families come to sheltered housing. There special education and social workers work to support, protect and help them in the emergency crisis they are. The work is based on theories, research and approved experience. The background to the study is that I want to deepen myself in the process that has led to today's working method and I think that it is valuable insight to provide the interdisciplinary subject between pedagogy and social work. Parental capacity is affected when there is violence, that we know from research, but is it understood from the perspective of social workers and from the special education perspective?Aim and study questions: The aim is to make visible the multifaceted assignments of special education as part of the work on children who are exposed to domestic violence. The detailed questions are: • How does the process of special education work look like in sheltered housing? • What expectations do the social workers have on special education in sheltered housing? • How is parental capacity affected when there is domestic violence based on the social work perspective and from the special educational perspective?Theory: Theories used in the study are the special education perspective, a sociological theory of Bourdieu's concepts, habitus, capital and fields as explanation model and Vygotsky's pedagogical theory.Method: Three social workers who work in sheltered housing have been interviewed. All interviews have been recorded, transcribed and later analyzed. The interviews were semi-structured and were based on keywords. Even diary notes have been included in the empirical material. The methodology is based on a narrative approach. The result and analysis are categorized based on the themes presented in the stories.Presentation of empirical evidence: The empirical material shows that child perspective, thoughts about what is normal, routines, everyday structure, group dynamics and activities in the shelter are key parts. And how the work will focus on salutogenic, development, the future, opportunities for play and the environment. Finally, the results that deal with parental ability, emotions and the tools that professionals can afford to force those in needs to strengthen them in the future.Implications: Because of the study, I think there is a need to work interdisciplinary between social work and the special education. Together, these two professions can create favorable conditions for those families who are subjected to domestic violence when they come to sheltered housing. Based on the laws and governing documents available, it is obvious that there are requirements for how children´s right should be safeguarded. Conclusion: The conclusion is that improved efforts for children and parents in sheltered housing is an important part of reducing long-term domestic violence. Children are the adults of the future and if we can prevent violence at home, there may be opportunities to prevent domestic violence to continue for generations.

Brežinskaitė, Brigita 09 January 2007 (has links)
Gyventojų amžiaus struktūros pokyčiai kelia naujas socialines ir ekonomines problemas: auga poreikis senų žmonių medicininei priežiūrai, specialiam socialiniam aptarnavimui, daugėja pensinio amžiaus žmonių. Taigi neišvengiamai tenka skirti didesnį dėmesį pagyvenusių ir senų žmonių socialinėms problemoms spręsti. Seni ir pagyvenę žmonės, kurie, dėl savarankiškumo sumažėjimo, nebegali savimi pasirūpinti, gali tikėtis oficialių institucijų pagalbos. Stacionariuose globos namuose teikiamos socialinės paslaugos – išeitis negalintiems savimi pasirūpinti seniems ir pagyvenusiems žmonėms. Tačiau ar teikiamų socialinių paslaugų kokybė gali garantuoti senų žmonių poreikių patenkinimą? Darbe siekiama ištirti senų žmonių globos namuose teikiamas socialines paslaugas bei įvertinti jų kokybę. Šiam tikslui pasiekti iškelti uždaviniai: išanalizuoti stacionarių socialinių paslaugų sampratą ir jas reglamentuojančius teisės aktus bei kitus norminius dokumentus; išanalizuoti senų ir pagyvenusių žmonių globos įstaigų veiklos principus; išnagrinėti paslaugų, teikiamų stacionariuose senų ir pagyvenusių žmonių globos namuose kokybės sampratą; ištirti socialinių paslaugų kokybę senų ir pagyvenusių žmonių globos namuose. / The changes in the structure of population age raises new social and economic problems: the demand for the medical care of the elderly people and for special social services as well as the number of retirement age people is increasing. Therefore, it becomes necessary to pay more attention to solutions of social problems of elderly and old people. Old and elderly people, who cannot take care of themselves due to the decrease in their self-sufficiency, may expect to receive help from official institutions. The social services provided in stationary sheltered housings are solutions for old and elderly people, who cannot take care of themselves. However, does the quality of the social services guarantee the fulfillment of the needs of old people? In this paper, an attempt will be given to investigate the social services provided in sheltered housings for old people and to evaluate the quality of such services. In order to achieve this goal, the following problems have been raised: to analyze the conception of stationary social services and the legislation as well as other standard documents, which regulate such services; to analyze the work principles of sheltered housings for old and elderly people; to research the conception of the quality of services, provided in stationary sheltered housings for old and elderly people; to investigate the quality of social services, provided in sheltered housings for old and elderly people.

Tottmar Virsand, Tove, Pettersson, Malin January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine how the staff of non-profit and municipal sheltered housings experience the opportunities and limitations of the organisations as well as how they experience cooperation. The study has a qualitative method in which eight semistructured interviews were conducted with four employees from two non-profit sheltered housing and four employees from two municipal sheltered housing. A survey from the National board of health and welfare (2013) shows that in the year of 2013 71 % of Sweden's sheltered housing were non-profit and 21 % were municipal sheltered housing. These sheltered housings had different conditions in helping battered women, as shown by previous research. The results of this study show that the staff from the non-profit sheltered housing to a greater extent experienced that they were free in designing their work and giving the women a social context but could be limited in short-term agreements with the municipality. Staff from the municipal sheltered housing felt safer with the organisational form however they could experience limitations regarding that the decision-making process were ineffective and that they could not design their own work to the same extent. Staff from the municipal sheltered housing to a greater extent experienced that they had good conditions for cooperation, however all of the interviewees experienced some limitations regarding cooperation.

Förslag på ny fastighet vid Ringvägen : Framtagning av förslagshandlingar / Proposal for a new property at Ringvägen : Development of concept drawings

Netteryd, Nicholas January 2014 (has links)
Stockholm is growing and that in turn requires new buildings. The free surfaces of Stockholm decreases and Stockholm City are trying to find new ways to improve the city. The property Gulbetan is located on Södermalm in connection with Ringvägen and Vitabergsparken. Today the site is used for parking and recycling which makes the place dismal and it does not fulfill its full potential. This thesis leads to the final draft documents for the property. Documents are produced along a thorough site analysis, which in turn results in a building with a shop on the corner of plane 0, sheltered housing on floors 1-2 and apartments on floors 3-7. Even a pedestrian area created between the parks Vitabergsparken and Lilla Blecktornsparken. The idea of the architecture throughout the project has been to create a new clearance of Ringvägen, with a stylish building that is timeless.

Paliativní péče o umírající s mentálním postižením v chráněných bytech / The Palliative Care of Dying People with Intellectual Disabilities in Sheltered Housing

Hušnerová, Lucie January 2016 (has links)
My diploma thesis is called The Palliative Care of Dying People with Intellectual Disabilities in Sheltered Housing. The purpose of the text is to create an overview study of palliative care about dying people with mental disabilities. The reason why I have decided to focus on such a relevant issue is a wide shortage of information in Czech Republic compared to other countries. People with mental disabilities nowadays tend to live longer and the question of palliative care for them is crucial. My thesis is divided into six main sections. In the first section I talk about the ethics dilemma of palliative care. By ethics dilemma I mean problems that are needed to be dealt with in palliative care. One of them is the decision if it is adequate to die in an institution or in a home environment. In this section for instance it is described if it is necessarily to tell the truth the patients about their health conditions. The text is also referring to the medical advances comparing to quality of life of dying people. I also describe what the quality of life means to people and how to reach the highest level of quality of life in palliative care. In the second part of my thesis I describe the social, health and other services which are suitable for dying people and their relatives. Most of the named...

Sociální práce se sexualitou dospělých lidí s mentálním postižením v chráněném bydlení / Social Work with Sexuality of Adults with Intellectual Disabilities in Sheltered Housing

Machová, Vendula January 2013 (has links)
In my diploma thesis I expressed the importance of sexuality for every human bein . Sexual health is part of general health conditions and is a necessary condition of a quality life. Every human has the guaranteed right to enjoy sexuality freely, on condition that no one is constrained. Sexual rights are guaranteed by Bill of Rights, international agreements and also by documents issued by Czech government. I have theoretically described the goals, basic assumptions and educational topics in the area of sexuality of people with mental disabilities. For practical reasons I have included the illustrative tools/techniques for social work with sexuality. I have described the personality of an expert, who is occupied with the sexuality of mentally disabled and ethical rules, to which he/she is obliged to follow. I have tried to compare Czech and foreign scholar literature. I have described the methods of working with sexuality in a concrete Sheltered Housing. As a research method I used the analysis of internal documents, especially Sexual report and recorded interviews. When describing social work with sexuality I have relied mainly on my own experiences. In my diploma thesis I have used my experience primarily for description of individual case study; I mentioned two most complicated examples of cooperation...

Allared, Jenny, Wirén, Maria January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to gain a deeper understanding how social workers at social ser- vices and sheltered housing work with cases involving honor-related violence and oppression (crimes of honour). The following questions are clarified; What dilemmas do social workers describe at social services and in sheltered housing in the work to support women? How can the work on honor-related violence and oppression be understood in relation to a critical practice? The study is based on qualitative interviews with a total of six social workers active in social services and at sheltered housing with women exposed to honour-related violence and oppression. The study's results showed that honour-related violence and oppression are a com- plex area of work, where it can be seen as a challenge for the social services and sheltered ho- mes to assess where a woman can settle in order to be safe. However, the work risks creating stereotypical ideas that can lead to minority groups being stigmatized. All respondents emphasized that the decision to leave the family for a woman exposed to honour violence is a difficult decision, which can lead a woman to return to her old life. When a woman has left her family, it can lead to a feeling of isolation and loneliness. All respondents emphasized that a big part of the work consists of strengthening the woman's own resources and working towards an independent life. Against the background of the previous research that emphasizes the im- portance of collaboration between authorities, there was also an agreement among all respon- dents that a collaboration between different performers is necessary in order to be able to pro- vide protection for the woman in the acute phase, but also in the longer term be able to maintain the woman's protection.
