DGRSVX and DMSRIC: Fortran 77 subroutines for solving continuous-time matrix algebraic Riccati equations with condition and accuracy estimates

Petkov, P. Hr., Konstantinov, M. M., Mehrmann, V. 12 September 2005 (has links)
We present new Fortran 77 subroutines which implement the Schur method and the matrix sign function method for the solution of the continuoustime matrix algebraic Riccati equation on the basis of LAPACK subroutines. In order to avoid some of the wellknown difficulties with these methods due to a loss of accuracy, we combine the implementations with block scalings as well as condition estimates and forward error estimates. Results of numerical experiments comparing the performance of both methods for more than one hundred well and illconditioned Riccati equations of order up to 150 are given. It is demonstrated that there exist several classes of examples for which the matrix sign function approach performs more reliably and more accurately than the Schur method. In all cases the forward error estimates allow to obtain a reliable bound on the accuracy of the computed solution.

Solving Linear-Quadratic Optimal Control Problems on Parallel Computers

Benner, Peter, Quintana-Ortí, Enrique S., Quintana-Ortí, Gregorio 11 September 2006 (has links)
We discuss a parallel library of efficient algorithms for the solution of linear-quadratic optimal control problems involving largescale systems with state-space dimension up to $O(10^4)$. We survey the numerical algorithms underlying the implementation of the chosen optimal control methods. The approaches considered here are based on invariant and deflating subspace techniques, and avoid the explicit solution of the associated algebraic Riccati equations in case of possible ill-conditioning. Still, our algorithms can also optionally compute the Riccati solution. The major computational task of finding spectral projectors onto the required invariant or deflating subspaces is implemented using iterative schemes for the sign and disk functions. Experimental results report the numerical accuracy and the parallel performance of our approach on a cluster of Intel Itanium-2 processors.

Graphický znak v prostředí školy a města / Graphical sign in the context of school and town

Novotná, Monika January 2014 (has links)
NOVOTNÁ, Monika. Graphic sign in context of school and town. Prague, 2014.Thesis. Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Education, Department of Fine Arts. Supervisor Mgr. Helena Kafková, 90 pages. In the theoretical part I focus on a sign, the graphical sing. I sort out its forms. I present the sing as a nonverbal system of communication and a way of labelling objects. I search for the connections and contradictions of the existence of legal [traffic signs, orientation signs, signboards] and illegal graphic signs [graffiti and street art] in the public space. In the didactic part I suggest and realize the art projects where some technics of graffiti and street art are used. The artistic themes: SING - LETTER - PICTOGRAM - PUBLIC SPACE are processed at my art lessons at both primary and secondary schools. We discuss the meaning of these words in the public space. The part of the thesis is a research study among the pupils of a primary and secondary school which tries to point at either different or the same art perceptions by the pupils and their mental constructions of these. There I try to connect the street art and graffiti with the topics of private property, vandalism and personal attitudes versus the state and society. I offer to the children the question of personal freedom of an...

Sociální a kolektivní identita pražských neslyšících / Social and collective identity of the Deaf community/ies in Prague

Fajfrová, Doris January 2016 (has links)
This work deals with the collective and social identity of the Prague deaf. It is based on the presumption that the deaf can be regarded as a social group with specific characteristics which are interesting from a sociological perspective. The aim of this work is a description and understanding of the mode the deaf relate to each other and the way the social mechanisms are used for this purpose. The crucial chapter deals with the social categorization as a key mechanism for building and maintaining the social identity of the deaf. The following part is devoted to the collective identity, where two ideal types of the deaf collective identity are presented. The work is based on the qualitative research, which was conducted through semi-structured interviews with the deaf, simultaneously translated into Czech. From a methodological point of view, the presented study is based on the principles of the Grounded theory. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

A mobile design of an emergency service system for deaf people

Tovide, Anuoluwapo Esther Semande January 2021 (has links)
>Magister Scientiae - MSc / The importance of mobile technology in improving the quality of life is not restricted to only a Hearing person, and the use of mobile devices among Deaf people is no longer limited, due to the advancements in technology Hearing loss cannot be seen but its effect is clearly visible to the persons suffering the loss. This results in a limited ability to communicate with the large world of hearing people. This research effort aims to design a SignSupport for emergency mobile application for Deaf people in Cape Town, empowering them with the same access to emergency service resources as hearing people. The proposed approach is to use a mobile application to contact standard emergency services on behalf of a Deaf person to a representative. The app will use a phone's GPS module to share the location of the victim and contact the nearest emergency service provider to attend to the Deaf victim; as well as keep the victim’s circle of family and friends informed. The app design is intuitive, simply requiring the Deaf victim to launch the app and choose an emergency type from the available options.

The meaning of the equality sign : A systematic literature review on children´s understanding and teaching methods to develop children´s understanding of the equal sign.

Landqvist, Rebecca January 2015 (has links)
The aim of this systematic literature review is to research the most common understandings of the equal sign among children, and teaching methods found effective for developing their understanding. The database ERIC has been used to search for prior published research. Thirty studies are used as the result and foundation for the analysis. The result of this review indicates that there are more levels of understanding than the operational and relational meaning of the equality sign. Several methods to promote the students understanding of the equality sign has been found. They vary from how and when instructions are supposed to be delivered to how equivalence can be presented with symbols and other representations.

Landqvist, Rebecca January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this study is to research and bring knowledge about how the meaning of the equality sign can be taught in a Swedish classroom. The research focuses on how a teacher creates possibilities for the students to discern critical aspects of the meaning of the equality sign through patterns of variation. The data was collected by using stimulated recall during one lesson in a year 2 classroom with a teacher who has been working as a teacher for ten years. The collected material was analysed with inspiration from the variation theory. The result shows that four critical aspects were made visible to the students. This was done through dif- ferent patterns of variation that was created by the use of different forms of representation.

Utveckling av skyltsystem : Framtagning av ett stöldförebyggande tillfälligt trafikskyltsystem / Development of sign system : A solution for preventing theft of temporary traffic sign systems

Jonsson, Seth, Danielsson, Ellen January 2022 (has links)
In this project, a new anti-theft sign system is being developed for temporary traffic signs. The connection between the sign and pole of the developed sign system contributes to the theft and vandalism of the signs being made more difficult by being self-locking. Important traffic information can therefore remain in traffic. The new sign system enables mounting of several signs on both sides of the post with stepless height adjustment. The sign system that has been developed has many of the existing systems advantages. It also has advantages that the existing system lacks and great development potential. The project also contains simulations, calculations, strength tests and user tests to ensure that the system is safe to use in traffic.

Användares perspektiv på Single Sign On, biometri och lösenordshanterare

Ljungberg, Robert, Björnström, Ludvig January 2022 (has links)
