Dual earner parents have become the norm in today’s workplace (Weigel, Weigel, Berger, Cook, & Delcampo, 1995). Dual earner parents face many challenging roles that they have to try to balance; these include being a parent, spouse, employee, being involved in religious practices and juggling domestic responsibilities. According to Duxbury and Higgins (1991), it is very difficult for such parents to balance their various roles and multiple demands. All these challenging demands (home characteristics) can cause nonwork–interference which can, in turn, lead to well–being problems (Magnus & Viswesvaran, 2005).
The general objective of this study is to investigate the home characteristics, nonwork–work interference and well–being of a sample of dual earner parents. A convenience sample of dual earner parents (N=207) was taken in the Vaal Triangle area in Gauteng. The following scales was used within this study: the Home Demands Scale (Peeters et al., 2005), Home Resources Scale (Demerouti et al., 2010); the Work–nonwork Interference Scale (Koekemoer, Mostert, & Rothmann, 2010); the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ) (Goldberg, & Williams, 1988); and the OLBI (Oldenburg Burnout Inventory) Scale measuring exhaustion, Cognitive weariness (Van Horn et al., 2004); and life satisfaction (Diener et al., 1985).
Descriptive statistics, Cronbach alpha coefficients, product moment correlations and multiple regression analyses were used to analyse the data. The results indicated that emotional home demands and lack of autonomy significantly predict physical ill health; emotional home demands and spouse–work interference significantly predict anxiety; and emotional home demands significantly predict depression. Gender, home pressure, developmental possibilities and parent–work interference were, in turn, significant predictors of exhaustion.
Recommendations were made for future research and also, on a more practical level, for dual earner parents. One of the recommendations is that one needs to investigate the possible cross–over and spillover effects of work–nonwork interference between wives and husbands. done on divorce recovery.
This study on divorce recovery is shaped by a feminist theological perspective and a postmodem
social constructionist discourse. As qualitative research, narrative group work was embarked on
over a period of a year with five women who went through divorce. Through therapeutic letters
different themes emerged. These themes formed the focus for each chapter and are enriched by
relevant literature reflections.
In the first chapter the stark reality of divorce in South Africa, the discursive positioning,
epistemology and research methodology are discussed, and the stories of the participants are told.
Divorce is deconstructed by the participants as resistance to patriarchy and not only an interpersonal
crisis. The majority of claimants in divorce cases in South Africa are women.
The dominant oppressive biblical discourse that divorce is always sin is reconstructed. An
alternative religious discourse is co-constructed amongst the participants: that divorce under certain
circumstances is God's will for women who are caught in humiliating and oppressive marriages.
The various spheres of life that women reconstruct after divorce are discussed. These include:
• practical matters such as the legal proceedings, housing and finances
• emotional reconstruction where emotions such as fear. senses of guilt, and rage from a
feminist perspective view are discussed.
• reconstruction of social relations which includes aspects such as the relation with the former
husband, family, new male friends and children
• spiritual reconstruction which includes a feminist perspective on the Bible, sin, the will of
God, and also a divorce ritual
• the reconstruction of identity.

Afrikaans text, with Afrikaans and English summaries / Despite legislation to the effect intended to ensure the position of the disabled in society, disabled persons still find themselves largely marginalized in the South African context.
During this research a group of about twenty participants, of whom about one-half are disabled, were involved in an inclusive process of art-making. The aim of the research was to challenge the dominant discourse which holds that making art is only for the select, talented few.
This research was undertaken according to the scientific guidelines of practical theology. Contextual theology was used as a starting point, with emphasis on the participatory- and narrative approaches. The characteristics of pastoral care created an atmosphere which was conducive to the disabled participants discovering and developing hope for a more rewarding future.
The research culminated in an exhibition in a national museum, which could contribute to an additional dimension in the narrative of the disabled participants. / Ten spyte van wetgewing om die inklusiewe posisie van die gestremde in die
samelewing te verseker, is gestremdes in die Suid Afrikaanse konteks nog
grootliks gemarginaliseerd. Vanuit hierdie gemarginaliseerde posisie vind
gestremdes dit moeilik en dikwels onmoontlik om hul unieke potensiaal te
ontwikkel om sodoende 'n beter lewenskwaliteit lewe te vestig.
'n Groep van ongeveer twintig deelnemers, waarvan die helfte gestremd is, is
tydens hierdie navorsing in 'n inklusiewe konteks van kunsmaak betrek. Die
doel van die navorsing is om diskoerse uit te daag wat bepaal dat kunsmaak
net vir unieke, talentvolle mense beskore was. Teen die agtergrond van 'n
postmoderne epistemologie kon gestremdes sonder vooraf opgestelde reels en
regulasies uiting gee aan hul verbeelding en sodoende waaghalsig wees in die
proses van kunsmaak.
Hierdie navorsing het plaasgevind volgens die wetenskaplike riglyne van
praktiese teologie. Kontekstuele teologie is as 'n teologiese vertrekpunt gebruik,
met die klem op die deelnemende en narratiewe benaderings. Sodoende is
ruimte geskep vir die ontdekking sowel as die ontwikkeling van die potensiaal
van die gestremde. Die eienskappe van pastorale sorg het 'n atmosfeer tydens
die kunsmaaksessies geskep waarbinne die deelnemers in 'n veilige konteks
hoop op 'n bykomstige realiteit en 'n beter toekoms kon ontdek en ontwikkel.

Kwantitatiewe beskrywende studie na die houding van verpleeglundiges teenoor terminasies van swangerskap binne king se sisteem teorieTruter, Anso 11 1900 (has links)
The aim of this study was to describe the nurses‘ perception of termination of pregnancy and her perception of her conduct towards clients that request termination of pregnancy guided by Kings‘ Systems Approach and Goal Attainment Theory.
A non-experimental quantitative descriptive correlational design was used. A non-probability purposive sampling method was used consisting of institutions in the Western Cape, available to participate in this study, which deliver termination of pregnancy services, gov
ernment health care institutions (21) and Marie Stopes clinics (3). Non-probability convenience sampling was used consisting of registered nurses who are working in termination of pregnancy units in these facilities (N=82). Data were collected through the administration of a self-designed questionnaire.
The main findings of the study indicate that respondents (personal system) appear to feel positive about the work they are doing. Formal improvement and development are however not utilised optimally.
Regarding the interpersonal system, respondents also show a positive orientation to both the woman opting for termination of pregnancy and the foetus. The potential towards transaction and ultimately goal attainment reside within this system. The respondents are also positive about legislation, employers and policies (social system) relating to termination of pregnancy. This orientation creates a milieu that is conducive to transactions, interactions and goal attainment.The main recommendation is that three systems as proposed by King be continuously integrated within the termination of pregnancy setup through, amongst other measures: values clarification, management support, in service education, the inclusion of termination of pregnancy in undergraduate programmes, focus groups and the like. / Die doel van hierdie studie was om die verpleegkundige se persepsie van terminasie van swangerskap en haar persepsie van haar houding en gedrag teenoor kliёnte wat terminasie van swangerskap versoek, aan die hand van King se Sisteembenadering en Doelwitbereikingsteorie te ondersoek en te beskryf.
`n Nie-eksperimentele kwantitatiewe beskrywende korrelasie navorsingsontwerp was gebruik. `n Nie-waarskynlike doelbewuste-steekproefneming van die staatsgesondheidsorg-instansies wat terminasie van swangerskapdienste aanbied, is geneem en wat beskikbaar vir hierdie studie was (21) asook die Marie Stopesdienste (3), in die Wes-Kaap. `n Nie-waarskynlike gerieflikheidsteekproefneming is van verpleegkundiges geneem wat swangerskappe in hierdie afdelings termineer of moet termineer (N=82). Beweging as deel van ‘n vroeë leerervaring is noodsaaklik vir optimale neurale ontwikkeling. Dit beïnvloed organisasie en stimuleer die spesifieke neurologiese sisteme nodig vir optimale funksionering en ontwikkeling van die brein. Sensoriese integrasie disfunksie word gesien as die wortel van baie leerprobleme. Die vestibulêre sisteem is direk verbind met die sensoriese en motoriese sisteme. ‘n Sensoriese integrasie disfunksie het ‘n duidelike invloed op die vestibulêre sisteem. Die vestibulêre sisteem het baie interkonneksies met baie dele in die brein, byvoorbeeld propriosepsie en die tassisteem. Doeltreffende funksionering van die sensoriese, motoriese en vestibulêre sisteme word verlang vir ‘n hoë vlak van prestasieverrigting in sport en akademie. Die doel van hierdie studie was om te bepaal wat die persepsie van grondslagfase-onderwysers en ouers is oor die rol en voordele wat vestibulêre oefeninge te weeg kan bring in die motoriese en sensoriese ontwikkeling van leerders.
Leerders in graad 1 van ‘n privaatskool, asook van grade 2 en 3 van ‘n plaasskool is gekies as deelnemers in die studie. Die keuse van leerders was op grond van die bereidwilligheid van hulle en hul ouers om aan die studie deel te neem. Leerders het ‘n vestibulêre oefenprogram drie maal per week gedoen vir die tydperk van agt weke. Observasie-vraelyste is deur onderwysers en ouers ingevul na afloop van die derde sessie elke week. Vir die vraelys het ouers en onderwysers gekyk na die verbetering in aandagspan, konsentrasie, luistervaardigheid, oogkontak, sosiale interaksie en samewerking. Onderhoude is met ouers en onderwysers gedoen na aanleiding van die observasievraelyste wat vir die agt weke voltooi is. Transkripsies van die onderhoude is gedoen en afleidings is gemaak deur analise van die observasie-vraelyste en die getranskribeerde onderhoude.
Al ses die ontwikkelingsareas by beide skole het verbetering getoon oor die agt weke. Dit dui daarop dat vestibulêre oefeninge wel ‘n invloed op die sensoriese en motoriese ontwikkeling het. / Inclusive education promotes the inclusion of learners with different needs and capabilities in classes which are often too big and diverse for effective teaching. Movement as an early learning experience is necessary for optimal neural development. It influences organisation and stimulates the specific neurological systems required for optimal functioning and development of the brain. Sensory integrative dysfunction is believed to be at the root of many learning disorders. The vestibular system is directly connected with the sensory and motor systems. The vestibular system will be directly affected when a sensory integrations dysfunction presents. In fact, the vestibular system has many interconnections with almost every other part of the brain like proprioception and the tactile system. Proper functioning of the sensory, motor and vestibular systems is required for higher level performance in sport and academics. When the vestibular system is stimulated, it will result in a positive influence on the sensory and motor development of learners.
The aim of this study is to determine the perceptions of foundation phase teachers and parents regarding the role or benefits of vestibular exercises in promoting learners’ motor and sensory development.
Learners in Grade 1 of a private school and Grade 2 and 3 learners of a farm school in the northern Free State were selected as participants in the research. Learners were selected on the basis of the willingness of them and their parents to participate in the research. The participants did exercise sessions three times a week for thirty minutes over a period of eight weeks. Observation sheets were completed for all eight weeks, for the duration of the exercise program, by teachers and parents. These sheets were completed weekly after the third sessions in that week. The observation sheets listed concentration, attention span, listening, eye contact, cooperation, social interaction and self-esteem as developmental areas. Interviews were done after the period of eight weeks with the parents and teachers. The interviews conducted with both parties were taped and meticulously transcribed. This helped the researcher to get a better understanding of the study and to analise data and draw conclusions.All six areas of development showed improvement at both schools over the period of eight weeks. Text in German / Summaries in German, English, Afrikaans and Zulu / So vielfältig die Aufgaben sind, sich ehrenamtlich und damit freiwillig und unentgeltlich zu engagieren, so vielfältig sind die Motive, die dabei eine Rolle spielen können. In dieser Forschungsarbeit wird untersucht, welche Motive ausschlaggebend dafür sind, dass leitende Frauen und Männer unterschiedlichsten Alters über Jahre hinweg treu ihren Dienst in einer Einrichtung für suchtkranke Menschen tun und dabei nicht resignieren.
Anhand von geführten Leitfaden-Interviews lässt sich dabei erkennen, inwieweit auch christliche Motive eine Grundlage für den ehrenamtlichen Einsatz darstellen. Dazu gibt besonders Joachim Bauer mit seinen neurobiologischen Untersuchungen der menschlichen Motivationssysteme viele Anhaltspunkte.
Die durchgeführten Interviews werden mithilfe einer thematischen Inhaltsanalyse bearbeitet und anschließend bewertet. Abschließend werden Vorschläge zum Umgang mit ehrenamtlichen Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeitern in der Suchtkrankenhilfe formuliert.
Diese qualitative Studie leistet einen Beitrag dazu, neue Erkenntnisse über die Motivation ehrenamtlicher Suchtkrankenhelfer zu bekommen, was in dieser Form noch nicht erforscht wurde. / Just as varied as the tasks are for unpaid volunteer work, the potential motives are equally as diverse. This research will examine which motives are critical, for women and men of various ages in positions of leadership, to serve faithfully for years in institutions for addicts and not to resign.
From guided interviews, it can be seen to what degree Christian motives form a foundation for this volunteer work. Joachim Bauer’s neurobiological research of “human motivation systems” supplies us with key indicators.
The interviews will be performed using a method of thematic content analysis and then rated. In conclusion, proposals for handling volunteers working in the area of assisting addicts will be provided. A best practice framework for visitor information centres in Gauteng Province, South AfricaChikati, Shybow 04 1900 (has links)
Abstracts in English, Zulu and Afrikaans / Globally, Visitor Information Centres are increasingly recognised touchpoints contributing to the success
of tourism destinations. In Gauteng, South Africa, their numbers continue to decline. The service level of
these remaining VICs differ across and fall below expectation. Furthermore, most models of operation
are obsolete, with these centres having minimal exposure to best practices. Limited research focuses on
the supply side, namely the staffing and management of centres.
The study focuses on Gauteng VICs and the best practices that could improve future effectiveness. An
exploratory design was followed which commenced with a concise review of best practice literature,
global case studies and examples on the operation of effective VICs. An empirical study then reported
on the opinions of 25 VIC staff and eight managers from eight Gauteng VICs regarding the current
situation and future needs. A two-tiered approach was used to gather data via two custom-designed
surveys with Gauteng VIC staff and managers respectively. A snowball sample of 25 staff members and
a purposive sample of eight key informants were obtained. Data were analysed quantitatively using SPSS
and qualitatively using thematic content analysis; and presented in three parts. The literature, the
findings and the researcher’s recommendations culminate in a best practice framework for Gauteng
VICs. The framework advocates for an integration of traditional and new media services and platforms
in the dissemination of tourism information based on the funding available to a particular VIC. It is
envisaged that if managers implement the best practice framework, it could avert further decline in the
number of VICs. Moreover, it could improve their effectiveness in meeting the needs of the

Afrika, toon ’n afname. Die diensvlakke van die oorblywende sentrums verskil en voldoen nie aan
verwagtinge nie. Die bedryfsmodelle van die meeste van hierdie besoekersinligtingsentrums is ook
verouderd en die betrokke sentrums het minimale blootstelling aan beste praktyk. Beperkte navorsing
fokus op die aanbodkant, dit wil sê, die personeelvoorsiening en bestuur van
besoekersinligtingsentrums.
Hierdie studie fokus op besoekersinligtingsentrums in Gauteng en die beste praktyke wat hulle
doeltreffendheid in die toekoms kan verbeter. Die navorser het ’n verkenningsontwerp gebruik,
beginnende met ’n bondige oorsig van literatuur oor beste praktyk, wêreldwye gevallestudies en
voorbeelde van die werkswyse van doeltreffende besoekersinligtingsentrums. Die navorser het daarna
in ’n empiriese studie verslag oor die menings van 25 personeellede van besoekersinligtingsentrums en
8 bestuurders van 8 besoekersinligtingsentrums in Gauteng rakende die huidige stand en toekomstige
behoeftes van die sentrums gelewer. Die navorser het ’n tweevlakkige benadering gevolg om data in te
win deur twee aangemete opnames te gebruik om data van onderskeidelik personeellede en
bestuurders van besoekersinligtingsentrums in Gauteng te bekom. ’n Sneeubalsteekproef van 25
personeellede en ’n doelbewuste steekproef van 8 sleutelrespondente is bekom. Data is kwantitatief
met behulp van die Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) en kwalitatief deur middel van ’n
tematiese inhoudsanalise ontleed en in drie dele aangebied. Die literatuur, die bevindings en die
navorser se aanbevelings het op ’n raamwerk van bestek praktyk vir Gautengse
besoekersinligtingsentrums uitgeloop. Ingevolge hierdie raamwerk moet tradisionele en nuwe
mediadienste en -platforms geïntegreer word na gelang van die befondsing wat tot ’n bepaalde
besoekersinligtingsentrum se beskikking is. Daar word voorsien dat indien sentrumbestuurders die
bestepraktyk-raamwerk implementeer, dit ’n verdere afname in die aantal besoekersinligtingsentrums
kan verhoed. Daarbenewens kan die raamwerk lei tot ’n verbetering in Gautengse besoekersinligtingsentrums se vermoë om in die behoeftes van beide tegnologies bedrewe en
tradisionele besoekers te voorsien, en sodoende daartoe bydra dat die sentrums by die 21ste eeu

Summary
With the rise of the divorce rate and the decline of the nuclear family, boys are more frequently being deprived of a father-presence in their homes. The aim of this study was to qualitatively explore and describe boys' experiences of their relationships with their absent fathers. Three boys from different racial and cultural groups were chosen as case studies and worked with from a Gestalt Play Therapy Perspective. Data was gathered from the therapeutic sessions, as well as from semi structured interviews with the childcare workers of the boys. The findings of the study appear to concur with existing literature, namely that boys with absent fathers
experience difficulties in the areas of emotional, social, cognitive and moral development. Recommendations are made as to how boys with absent fathers may best be supported.
Opsomming
Met die toename in egskeidings en die afname van nukleêre gesinne, word daar gevind dat seuns meer dikwels die teenwoordigheid van die vader in die huis ontneem word. Die doel van hierdie studie is `n kwalitatiewe ondersoek en beskrywing
van seuns se ervaring van hulle verhouding met hulle afwesige vaders. Drie seuns van erskillende rasse- en kulturele groepe is gekies vir die
gevallestudies en vanuit `n Gestalt Spelterapeutiese perspektief is met hulle gewerk.
Data is versamel vanuit die terapeutiese sessies sowel as vanuit semigestruktureerde onderhoude met die seuns se kinderoppassers. Die bevindinge van die studie blyk ooreen te stem met bestaande
literatuur, naamlik dat seuns met afwesige vaders probleme ondervind ten opsigte van emosionele, sosiale, kognitiewe en morele ontwikkeling.

Taalverryking van senior kleuters in milieubenadeelde gemeenskappe : 'n ouerprogram / Language enrichment of senior toddlers in environmentally deprived communities : a parental programmeNaudé, Hendrina 08 1900 (has links)
Hierdie studie fokus op die taalontwikkeling en -verryking van senior kleuters in
milieubenadeelde gemeenskappe. Die ondersoekgroep is 'n A:fiikaanssprekende Kleurling- en
Griekwagemeenskap. Dit blyk dat die ouers in hierdie gemeenskap sekere leemtes openbaar ten
aansien van bulle taalopvoedingsgedrag, wat resulteer in taalervaringsagterstande by die senior
kleuters.
Taalontwikkeling en -verryking is in wese "a socially mediated process" en blootstelling aan
stimulerende taalervaringe bevorder begrip van taalgebruik binne die sosiale konteks. Die
ontoereikende taalvoorbeeld binne die gesinne en gemeenskap resulteer in ontoereikende
taalontwikkeling en -verwerwing en die senior kleuters openbaar bulle arme, ongedifferensieerde
taalwereld in taaltekorte ten opsigte van taalbebeer, taalstyl en taalkode. Die senior kleuters se
konsepvorming is gebrekkig en in bulle taalaanwending is bulle eerder beskrywend en

Dit blyk dat die ouers nie bulle senior kleuters kognitief toereikend stimuleer nie, en dat
uitbreiding van taalkode nie toereikend gefasilieer word nie, omdat die ouers onkundig is
omtrent die benutting van toevallige leersituasies, en nie potensiele leergeleenthede skep of
ontgin nie. Kognitiewe stimulasie verwys na die vaslegging van sekere konsepte en uitbreiding
van taalkode verwys na die vaardigheid om juis daardie konsepte te kan omskryf, verklaar of
mee te deel. 'n Uitgebreide taalkode is dus die resultaat van gereelde blootstelling aan 'n wye
verskeidenheid stimulerende ervaringe. Hierdie ervaringsraamwerk word later die kleuter se
venrysingsraamwerk wat by gebruik om inligting te berhaal, versoeke te formuleer, voorwerpe

aansien van die taalverryking van die senior kleuters nie, maar ook eksplisiet daartoe begelei te
word om potensieel-stimulerende leersituasies te skep. / This study focuses on the language development and -enrichment of senior toddlers in
environmentally deprived communities. The research group is an Afrikaans speaking Colouredand
Griqua community. It is evident that parents in this community reveal certain deficiencies
pertaining to their language-teaching behaviour, resulting in linguistic experiential backlogs in
their senior toddlers.
Language development and -enrichment is in essence a socially mediated process and exposure
to stimulating language experiences enhances comprehension of colloquial usage within the
social context. The inadequate linguistic example set by both the family and the community
results in inadequate language development and -enrichment and the senior toddlers reveal their
impoverished, undifferentiated world of language in deficiencies pertaining to mastery of
language, style of language and code of language. The senior toddlers' conceptualization is
deficient and in their language usage they are rather descriptive and concrete-bound than analytic
and abstract.
It is evident that the parents do not adequately stimulate their senior toddlers' cognitive abilities,
and a code of language is not adequately facilitated, because the parents do not know how to
derive profit from incidental learning situations and are ignorant pertaining to the creation and
utilization of potential learning opportunities. Stimulation of cognition refers to the mastery and
fixation.. of certain concepts, while broadening of a code of language refers to the. ability to
describe, to explain, to interpret or to communicate the meaning of these concepts. A broadened
and expanded code of language is thus the result of regular exposure to a wide range of
stimulating experiences. This experiential framework later becomes the toddler's referential
framework which he uses to repeat information, to formulate requests, to name objects and to
accurately describe events. A broadened and expanded code of language is thus essential for
later successful learning, because it enables the learner to analyze, to synthesize and to globalize
new information.
The implication for the draft of a parental programme is that parents should not .only be
accompanied pertaining to the enrichment of their senior toddlers' language development, but
that parents in this deprived environment also explicitly be educated to create potential

Afrikaans text / This study was undertaken to investigate and explore the experience of the death of a parent and the support for Coloured boys, in the middleadolescence phase, within the school context. Five boys were involved in the study. The gender of the parent was not specified; but all the boys had lost their mothers. The adolescent boys indicated that the death of their mothers was a life changing event; that they struggled emotionally after the death of their mothers but they received enough support from the school, friends and peer group. Family relations were disrupted and the boys often handled their mourning alone. They indicated a continued bond with their mothers, developed a greater sense of responsibility and insight into themselves and the emotions of others deepened. The boys stressed the value of social support but the public display of emotions is influenced by their perceptions of masculinity. / Die studie is onderneem om Kleurling seuns in die middel-adolessente fase se ervaring na die dood van ’n ouer en ondersteuning binne die skoolopset te ondersoek en te verken. Vyf seuns is by die studie betrek. Die geslag van die ouer is nie gespesifiseer nie maar al die seuns het hul moeders verloor. Die adolessente seuns het aangedui dat die dood van hul moeders ’n lewensveranderende gebeurtenis was; dat hulle ’n emosionele stryd gevoer het na die dood van hul moeders maar wel voldoende ondersteuning vanaf die skool, vriende en portuurgroep ontvang het. Gesinsverhoudinge het verbrokkel en die seuns het dikwels alleen hul rou hanteer. Hulle het ’n voortgesette band met hul moeder aangedui, groter verantwoordelikheidsin ontwikkel en insig vir hulself en ander se emosies het verdiep.
