Rucinski, Vilson Rodrigo Diesel 07 June 2017 (has links)
The present research aims to comprehend how teacher's identity is represented by discursive interactions in online comments produced in the APP-Sindicato's Facebook profile, in the period of Teachers Strike that occurred in the first semester of 2015. With the teacher's identity being constantly questioned, contested, depreciated and reformulated both by depreciative discourses and public policies that weakens the teacher's career, it becomes important to study the discourses that emerges within this crises period to comprehend the new ways to "look" the teacher's identity. For this porpouse, the theoretical and methodological approach is composed by studies about identity (HALL, 2006; GEE, 2000) and teacher's identity (FREIRE, 1967; NÓVOA, 1991, 2009; KLEIMAN, 2006; TARDIF, 2012; GERALDI, 2010); researches about online interaction environments and social networks websites (RECUERO, 2009, 2014; BARTON e LEE, 2015) and founding concepts as: discourse, alterity, dialogism and enunciation as seen in the Bakhtin's Circle studies (BAKHTIN, 1997[1979], 2006[1929],2015 [1929], 1987[1965], 2015[1975] 2010 [1986]; VOLOCHÍNOV, 2013[1926], 2013[1930]). The research data were produced at the first semester of 2015, period when the Teachers Strike of State of Paraná took place, which provides a discoursive arena where the voices and ideologies confrontation are produced, in the media spaces, a large amount of enunciations that approaches the teacher's identity as the main theme. Thereby, this research data set are composed by an amount of 180 online comments, selected from the APP-Sindicato Facebook profile, syndical institution which organized the strike movement. Within the discursive regularities observed in the comments, we highlighted: the "poorly academic educated" teacher; the teacher as a "maneuver mass" for the left-wing political parties; the teaching as a "gift"; the (in)competence of public school. Besides the different ways of represent teacher's identity in discourse, it was possible to observe that in the online interaction environments, the subjects tend to use an aggressive tone when produces and reenounce depreciative discourses about teacher's identity, ignoring their responsability of being and acting, in other terms, producing discourses that does not consider the non-alibi of being. Lastly, besides the comments that depreciate the teaching and the public school in general, we highlighted comments pointing to a new discourse about the teachers identity, the identity of a teacher who fights for its rights and teaches the democratic acting through their acts.

Speranza, Clarice Gontarski January 2007 (has links)
The present dissertation focus on the strike movement that took place at Caldas Júnior News Company, in Porto Alegre, between late 1983 and early 1984, motivated by belated wage payments. The strike lasted 56 days and it was declared to be legal by the Superior Labor Court, based on the law nº 4.330, legislation at that time known as “antistrike” law, name coined by the Union managers. This study discusses how this event was possible, from the examination of its specific characteristics, among them the union of three categories of workers (periodists, compositors, drivers), woven into the analysis of the trade union context at that period which was marked by the emergence and institutionalization of the “novo sindicalismo” (new syndicalism movement). The investigation examines four central questions: the relation among the technological change seen in the graphic sector and the mobilization of strikers, the rupture of the paternalism relations in the production level, the possible articulation among the three involved unions and the legal issues.

A stakeholder analysis of the Marikana mining incident : implications for HR management

Engelbrecht, Jennifer Esme-Louise 27 May 2015 (has links)
M.Com. (Leadership in Performance and Change) / In August 2012 the South African mining industry was the focus of attention due to an illegal strike at Lonmin Platinum mine that resulted in the police shooting striking employees on 16 August 2012. Thirty-four employees lost their lives on that day. An additional ten people died in violent protests in the build-up to the main shooting incident. This strike period has become widely known as ‘Marikana’. This historical incident illustrates how a single incident within an organisation can have an impact at various levels and affect multiple stakeholders. The main objective of this study was to identify the effect that the Marikana mining incident had on Lonmin (the organisation) and its main stakeholders as well as to identify the effect the stakeholders and Lonmin had on each other. In order to reach these objectives an historical timeline of the sequence of events surrounding the Marikana incident was constructed. The main stakeholders involved in the Marikana incident were then identified, and the relationships and the relative strengths between these stakeholders were mapped. The methodology used in the study was Quantitative Narrative Analysis (QNA) as applied by Franzosi (2010). In particular, the content from English newspaper articles sourced from South Africa and England relating to the Marikana mining incident for the period 1 to 24 August 2012 were reviewed, coded and analysed. All relevant data from the articles were recorded in a manual database, coded according to the semantic triplet of ‘actors’, ‘actions’ and ‘subjects’ (S-V-O) (Franzosi, 1989) and analysed based on QNA principles (Franzosi, 2010). First, a sequence analysis was conducted, identifying the roles (consequences) that the respective actors (stakeholders and subgroupings of stakeholders) enacted as well as the order in which they unfolded. The analysis was used to produce a series of network graphs to visually depict the sequence of events and the respective effects of the sequencing of these events. These graphs take the form of stake maps and visually tell the story of how events unfolded and the effects of these events on all the actors involved ...

Intéressement, actionnariat et conflits dans l'entreprise : études sur données d'entreprises françaises / Profit Sharing, Employee Ownership and Conflicts in the Firm : evidences from French Firms

Tall, Aguibou Bougobaly 20 June 2016 (has links)
The basic idea of incentive contracts is that of achieving common interests causing changes in the behavior of employees and improving firm performance. The firms' outputs and success also depend on the industrial relation climate. In this context, the aim of this thesis is to contribute to the understanding offinancial participation (profit sharing and employee share ownership) and its links with the conflicts using data on French firms. Research on these topics isinnovative and highly recommended. First, there exists within the firm a multitude of types of conflicts. We are primarily concerned with collective conflicts. Most of studies on collective conflicts focuses only on strikes, ignoring other forms of collective actions. Very few studies make the link between collective incentive schemes and collective conflicts. Thus, this work is dividedinto four empirical studies. The first one analyzes the different forms of conflicts within the firm. The second one analyzes the effect of financial participation on collective conflicts. The third study focuses on the impact of bargaining and financial participation on the resolution of collective conflicts. The last one examines firm's performance based on financial participation and collective conflicts. Our research is based on multidimensional analysis and econometric tools. The multidimensional approach uses the Multiple Correspondence Analysis and Ascending Hierarchical Clustering. The econometric approach usesclassical estimation methods (OLS, Probit, Mutinomial Probit, Ordered Pobit),selection models (Heckman), and methods estimating simultaneous and recursive equations, treating the endogeneity problems and the mixture (quantitative and qualitative) of the dependent variables (Roodman, Conditional Mixed Process).

A survey of labour relations in the metal-mining industry of British Columbia

McKay, Dean Reginald January 1948 (has links)
The scope of this work has been limited to a discussion of employer-employee relationships in the field of metal mining and does not include consideration of labour problems in connection with the production of coal, non-metallic ores, or structural materials. The Introductory part deals with the early history of gold, mining and the subsequent discovery and development of the base-metal resources of the province. In this connection, a study is made of the geographical distribution and extent of these natural resources. A series of charts indicate* the locations of the major producing areas within British Columbia. The expansion of the industry through the years is now considered and developments are traced leading to the present scale of operations. Comparative graphs are presented indicating production scales, average price movements and employment statistics with regard to each of the major metals produced in the province. Attention is now directed to the development of trade unionism in the industry. This deals with the early history of the Western Federation of Miners and the later growth of the International Union of Mine, Mill and Smelter Workers, which now represents organized labour in the metal mines. The role of government in labour relations is shown to be an important factor. A study is made of the effects of such legislative enactments, as, the Industrial Disputes investigation Act, the Wartime. Labour Relations Regulations Act (P.O.1003), and the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act of British Columbia. Under the provisions of the last-mentioned act, which provides definite procedures for collective bargaining, some eighteen agreements are now in effect. Two of these actual agreements between the union and major producers have been made the subject for special study in the presentation of this phase of the subject. The strike record of the industry is now dealt with and the account of events leading up to the strike of 1946 among the gold producers is presented as being illustrative of the procedures followed. The present impasse of 1948 involving the same producers is shown to be an aftermath of the 1946 dispute. The discussion is concluded with an appraisal of present working conditions obtaining in the industry and current trends and indications are considered which would appear to have a bearing on future employer-employee relationships and the general welfare of the labour force, in the metal-mining industry. / Arts, Faculty of / Vancouver School of Economics / Graduate

Essa vitória pode ser considerada o início da hegemonia da CS ¿ posteriormente Partido Socialista dos Trabalhadores Unificado ¿ na direção do Sindicato dos Trabalhadores Metalúrgicos de São José dos Campos e Região / Abstract: Labor historiography has analyzed the relations between "old" and "new" unionism for at least two decades and has put in question the idea of a complete rupture setting apart the union movement before the 1964 military coup and the one emerging in the late 1970¿s, above all concerning its strategies of organization and striking. Those historians have showed significant continuities among these two moments in brazilian unionism and have contested the negative image of the "old" unionism, often related to its connection with Brazilian Communist Party (PCB) and the political disputes in the left wing during the 1980¿s. However, those analyses focused, above all, the case studies of São Paulo, ABC, Rio de Janeiro and didn't pay the same attention to the so called "new" unionism period and/or the working branches out of its epicenter and paradigmal case, the ABC. In order to understand the singularity of the so called "new unionism" in the case of the metalworkers of São José dos Campos, this dissertation has explored its¿ trajectories, forms of organizing and striking between the middle 1950¿s and the end of the 1980¿s. These workers were the actors of an important strike in March 1979, which transformed considerably its¿ union history, until then heads by the so called "pelegos". During the 1980¿s, contrasting with the previous decades, striking waves took control of the plants as this workers used repeatedly the workplace¿s occupation tactic until their demands were complied. Beyond these peculiarities, this work examined the left wing organization¿s roll among the metalworkers and its contest for the union, mostly opposing two factions inside the Worker¿s Party (PT): Articulation and Socialist Convergence (CS). Finally, it was also inquired how CS has won this dispute against the major group in a PT that was growing substantially in brazilian society. This victory may be considered the beginning of CS¿s hegemony ¿ afterwards the Unified Workers¿ Socialist Party (PSTU) ¿ on the lead of the Metalworkers Union of São José dos Campos (SMSJR) / Mestrado / Historia Social / Mestre em História

Vandeveld, Thierry F.R. 16 September 2009 (has links)

ABSTRACT

Countless collisions occur each year between airplanes and birds. Bird strike is a concern to both civilian and militay aircraft. Statistics show that, although the number of serious accidents fortunately remains low, the number of incidents keeps increasing.
Amongst the actors tackling this issue, aircraft manufacturers play an important role. In compliance with international regulations, they have to produce structural elements that withstand bird impact. During the development of their products, aircraft manufacturers have to demonstrate this resistance through bird impact trials :a bird surrogate is accelerated to the required velocity - often close to the nominal cruise speed of the aircraft - and launched onto a flap or a piece of fuselage.

This PhD thesis has been co-supervised by Professor Philippe Bouillard (ULB) and Professor Marc Pirlot (ERM-KMS). Its contribution to the improvement of the aforementioned dynamic trials is twofold.

One one hand, a two-stage pyrotechnical launcher for bird surrogates has been developed and assessed. A 20 mm caliber gun is connected to a 160 mm diameter launcher. The combustion of a propellant mixture in a cartridge case generates high pressure, high temperature gases which accelerate a bird surrogate protected by a cylindrical container. A stripper refrains the container from hitting the target pane.
The pyrotechnical solution has been assessed through an important number of firings where pressure, velocity and acceleration have been measured. The solution has proven compliance with both the safety requirements and the repeatability specifications. Its advantages compared to the pneumatic solutions used, as far as we know, in all other test centres, include compactedness as well as flexibility and high firing rate.

On the other hand, migration towards composite materials has been initiated years ago in the area of aeronautical constructions.
To optimize structures, a thorough knowledge of these new materials is required. Failure modes belong to the still badly known features of carbon reinforced plastics. Measuring the out-of-plane deformation when firing on a flat pane is one way of quantifying the material's behaviour under impact. This measurement is most frequently made in a static way, after completion of the firing. A dynamic measuring method has been developed, based upon stereoscopic digital image correlation techniques. This technique has been validated by means of an independent laser extensometer measuring method.

Reakce na bombardování SR Jugoslávie v roce 1999 v české politické debatě / The Czech Political Debate on the NATO Air Strikes Against FR Yugoslavia in 1999

Ivaniushin, Mikhail January 2020 (has links)
The aim of the thesis is to map and analyze the Czech public debate about the bombing of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia by NATO air forces in 1999. The North Atlantic Alliance attack on the FRY, which followed shortly after the Czech Republic had joined the Organization. Part of the political representation reacted to NATO's actions with restraint or regret, while the current, represented mainly by President Havel, became a principled supporter of the attack, even on the international political scene. The work deals with various levels of this debate: the initiation of individual actors in the problems of the NATO Operation in Yugoslavia, the starting points, argumentation strategies or links with other topics. It tries to reveal secondary motivations in the formulation of individual opinions (considerations of the security interests of the Czech Republic, worldview, prejudices, etc.). The source base of the work is mainly periodicals, especially the most read dailies. Posouzení útoků bezpilotních letounů jako spravedlivé metody boje s terorismem / Assessment of Drone Strikes as Just Counterterrorism Method

Třeštík, Marek January 2016 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the issue of drone strikes as a means of targeted killing of high value targets suspected of terrorist activities or affiliations. The United States of America has been using this method of elimination since the year 2001 as part of the Global War on Terrorism. However this practice raises a series of moral questions. It creates a new environment of alienation of the target and the person pulling the trigger. This thesis examines the compliance of drone strikes and the Global War on Terrorism as such with the Just War Theory. This theory is the leading concept in warfare ethics and offers a comprehensive research pattern. The finding of this thesis is that the use of drones, as it is employed today, is in conflict with the principles of this theory and therefore unjust. This finding is demonstrated by the research of two concrete drone strikes. Additionally, the Global War on Terrorism is also assessed to be an unjust war and therefore this thesis offers a comprehensive insight into the topic as it assesses both the practice and the overall context of drone strikes.
