Learning computer systems in a distributed project course : The what, why, how and where

Berglund, Anders January 2005 (has links)
Senior university students taking an internationally distributed project course in computer systems find themselves in a complex learning situation. To understand how they experience computer systems and act in their learning situation, the what, the why, the how and the where of their learning have been studied from the students’ perspective. The what aspect concerns the students’ understanding of concepts within computer systems: network protocols. The why aspect concerns the students’ objectives to learn computer systems. The how aspect concerns how the students go about learning. The where aspect concerns the students’ experience of their learning environment. These metaphorical entities are then synthesised to form a whole. The emphasis on the students’ experience of their learning motivates a phenomenographic research approach as the core of a study that is extended with elements of activity theory. The methodological framework that is developed from these research approaches enables the researcher to retain focus on learning, and specifically the learning of computer systems, throughout. By applying the framework, the complexity in the learning is unpacked and conclusions are drawn on the students’ learning of computer systems. The results are structural, qualitative, and empirically derived from interview data. They depict the students’ experience of their learning of computer systems in their experienced learning situation and highlight factors that facilitate learning. The results comprise sets of qualitatively different categories that describe how the students relate to their learning in their experienced learning environment. The sets of categories, grouped after the four components (what, why, how and where), are synthesised to describe the whole of the students’ experience of learning computer systems. This study advances the discussion about learning computer systems and demonstrates how theoretically anchored research contributes to teaching and learning in the field. Its multi-faceted, multi-disciplinary character invites further debate, and thus, advances the field.

Využití nástrojů web 2.0 pro podporu týmové spolupráce / The use of web 2.0 tools for supporting team collaboration

Dohnal, Martin January 2010 (has links)
The purpose of the present thesis is to apprise a reader of issues of tools for supporting team collaboration via web 2.0. These tools allow workmates to effectively collaborate from different geographical locations without the need for organizing time-consuming and often unproductive meetings. For example, such tools support teams in the way that ensures an access to shared documents for all project co-workers. A theoretical part of the thesis aims to introduce select definitions of terms which relates to this tools -- the terms collaboration and web 2.0, and furthermore to give reader an overview of existing tools for supporting team collaboration. A practical part of the thesis is aimed at description of one particular tool in the form of instruction manual which can be used by students in the homework process. The practical part also includes realization of research on student's experience with introduced tools. The research has a form of questionnaire. Finally author evaluates results of the research.

Artificial Intelligence Teammates in a Collaborative Information Seeking Environment from the Perspective of Women Engineers in the United States

Floyd, Schenita A 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to collect design requirements from women engineers on artificial intelligence teammates such as Microsoft Teams, Slack, and Trello. A mixed methods research design was used for this study with an online survey and semi-structure interviews. The study results revealed design requirements from women engineers including solutions to sociotechnical issues that could arise from artificial intelligence teammates in the workplace. The results showed various ways women engineers collaborate in the workplace with and without artificial intelligence. Additionally, women engineers' attitude towards artificial intelligence was examined to identify if there was a correlation to self-efficacy. This research study fills a previous study gap that solicited design requirements from research scientists, by soliciting practitioners. Practitioners such as women engineers are underrepresented in the workplace, and they could benefit from an artificial intelligence teammate with their design requirements. Finally, this study contributes to the information science literature on collaborative information seeking, artificial intelligence design, and engineers' information seeking behaviors.

Contributions of Regenerative Leadership to team collaboration and Social Sustainability

Mark, Vanessa, Vangelova, Nedelina January 2022 (has links)
Regenerative Leadership is a newly emerged leadership approach with a holistic worldview that is aiming to restore, preserve and enhance people, society and environment. It is a purposeful and empathic leadership that focuses on fostering partnerships between people and nature. In this research, we investigated application of this approach in work teams to promote collaboration and strategically contribute to Social Sustainability. By conducting several interviews with Regenerative Leadership practitioners and analyzing them doing qualitative content analysis, we found that Regenerative Leaders build team cultures that shift power and agency to the team as collective, the collaborative processes are centered around self-organization and inclusive decision-making. Building a culture of trust and encouraging learning, the leaders strengthen the adaptive capacities in the small social system of their work teams, thereby contributing to social sustainability. The way the interviewed leaders make decisions, how they choose the people in their team, what they value, how they act in a moment of misunderstanding in their team, what is their attitude towards the collective – all this is not only inspired by RL theory, but by the personal values and in particular by the spiritual convictions of the leaders.Even with the spiritual and personal perspectives of the interviewees, Regenerative Leadership strengthens all adaptive capacities of a work team as a social system. Moreover, this leadership paradigm offers a vision and values as a source of inspiration for the team members to collaborate Therefore, the approaches taken by leaders in this new and emergent field are effective ways to integrate the science-based principles of Social Sustainability into work teams

Sjuksköterskans erfarenheter av att göra patienten delaktig i vården : En litteraturstudie / Nurse's experiences on patient participation in nursing care : A literature review

Nilsson, Ulrika, Matsson, Felicia January 2023 (has links)
Participation in healthcare as a concept is difficult to understand for both professionals and patients. How participation is achieved, and its importance has been highlighted by researchers. One path to participation is to take a life-world perspective – viewing the patient as a whole person. According to Swedish law, the patient must be involved, however the patient has no requirements to actually be involved. Statistics show that health care does not achieve full participation, causing additional patient suffering. The aim of the study is to highlight the nurse's experience of patient participation in nursing care. Based on Friberg's model, the study was carried out as a literature review of nine qualitative empirical studies and one mixed methods study, found through the Cinahl and Medline databases. Three themes emerged in the study. Promoting patient participation, Challenges and barriers, and Communication and teamwork. Communication can be seen as central to promoting participation. The nurse and the patient share information with each other, are responsive and show respect for the person and knowledge of the other. However, there are several obstacles and challenges for both patient and nurse to get involved in person-centered care. Obstacles such as the patient's health and well-being, organizational demands on the nurse and the care culture in which the nurse operates. Person-centered care and participation go hand in hand and are important for the patient to achieve better health. Participation’s multiple interpretations make its promotion difficult. Organizations and society need to reach a consensus with each other and contribute to participation.

Nyckelfaktorer till en patientsäker omvårdnad vid traumalarm / Key factors for a patient safety care by trauma alarm

Holmström, Julia, Isaksson, Kerstin January 2022 (has links)
Background: Increased mobility in society, rapid technical and industrial development, increased violence and terrorist threats as a result of societal developments indicate an increase in healthcare. Mortality and morbidity caused by trauma can be reduced with quick and effective measures.  Aim: The aim of this study was to study specialist nurses' experiences of key factors for patient-safe nursing at level 1 trauma alarm. Participants and data collection: Eight specialist nurses with intensive- or anesthesia care were interviewed with semi-structured interviews. Method: Critical incident technique with qualitative approach was used in analysis during the study which resulted in 7 categories. Results: The results of the study show, among other things, the importance of feeling prepared, both through education and training within the team, but also to know the premises and the equipment used in the trauma room. Great emphasis is also placed on having the opportunity to reflect and follow up on trauma alarms that have been, for team collaboration, greater understanding between the clinics, emotional relief but also for patient safety during future trauma alarms. Conclusion: The study shows difficulties that arise in the care of patients affected by trauma, but also the key factors that the specialist nurses believe can improve and streamline care for patients.

En sista utväg : Sjuksköterskans upplevelse av MIG konsultation / A last resort : – Nurse´s experience of MIG consultation

Laurell, Johanna, Wigren, Emma January 2020 (has links)
Background: Nurses have a responsibility to early identify deteriorated patients in the general wards and contact the mobile intensive care group (MIG) for consultation. Studies have shown that patients with increased care needs may be in a ward that does not have the adequate staff and monitoring resources. These insufficient resources and nurses multiple patients at the same time implies a stressful work situation. Collaboration in teams between the intensive care nurse and the nurse is crucial for a MIG consultation to work. Aim: To illuminate the nurse's experience of collaboration with the intensive care nurseduring a MIG consultation. Method: Eight individual, semi-structured interviews with nursesworking at four care wards were analysed using inductive qualitative content analysis. Results: The analysis result was presented in four sub-categories, two categories and one theme. The overall theme a last resort described that MIG was there to support the nurses andit was safe to have the MIG at the hospital. How the collaboration with MIG was experienced depended on intensive care nurses´ attitude towards the nurses, such as their understanding of the nurses´ work situation and respected the nurses´ knowledge. How the collaboration worked with the intensive care nurses depended on how the nurses were treated at the MIG-consultations. Conclusion: Most nurses has a positive experience of working with the intensive care nurse, but there were difficulties with the team collaboration. However, difficulties may arise which are based on the condescending attitudes of the intensive care nurses. The intensive care nurses must understand the nurses' work situation and have reasonable expectations of them.

The value of working together : A qualitative study on coordination and collaboration from an employee and managerial perspective

Halleröd, Mikaela January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this study is to investigate how different occupational categories within adult education in Swedish for immigrants (SFI) interact within the framework of their common business. As a method for carrying out the study, I have used qualitative interviews. The data material presents opportunities and difficulties that appear around working together. The empirical material has been processed through thematic analysis. The theoretical starting point for the study is a model of different degrees of vertical and horizontal integration for understanding collaboration. The result shows that there are a variety of temporary collaborations. Through interviews the study give examples of professional categories that meet in everyday work. In addition, work takes place between different professional categories in a more coordinated form through teams. Furthermore, the respondents' experiences of the value of collaborating, such as strengthened relationships and a better working environment, are made visible. Another highlight that is mentioned is the increased possibility for staff to identify the need for support from the students, which leads to better adaptations of teaching. The result also shows how the business is coordinated through teams, and the potential for collaboration. Cooperation between professional categories is not fully achieved today within sfi. The conclusions show that there is a consensus among managers and other occupational categories considering which mechanisms make it difficult or possible to cooperate. There are no routines for collaboration today. What employees also demand is someone who leads the work, makes decisions and bears the responsibility of planning, implementing and following up the collaboration.
