Theōria : the veneration of icons via the technoetic process

Karoussos, Ekaterini January 2016 (has links)
The Second Council of Nicaea, in 787 AD, marked the end of iconoclasm, while in 843 the Treaty of Verdun laid the foundations of Europe. With these agreements, a sustained period of imageless iconolatry was initiated. However, the veneration of icons was based on the absolute worship of matter and form, which replaced the prime spiritual concept of ‘image and likeness’. Millennia of research and thought resulted in imageless representations of natural phenomena. Pushing aside the topology of the image and its sign, the intelligent man, from the Age of Reason and onward, considered himself as an auto-authorised and teleological-free entity. To this end, he maximised the intelligibility of his space by designing an all-inclusive Cartesian cocoon in which to secure his mass and form. Yet, there he found his pet (Schrodinger’s Cat) to be both dead and alive, and the apple, still forbidden, had become a bouncing ball, serving as evidence of gravity. Hence, this intelligent design, by default, carries the residual fear of Manichaean and Augustinian devils, and is deemed to have converted to a de-sign crisis. Relying on literature sources, this dissertation examines two dominant models that govern human cognition and the production of knowledge. Despite remarkable scientific achievements which resulted, the aftermath of human progress was, among others, the maximisation of residual fear, to such an extent that voracious black holes devour all matter. Inaugurating the transhumanist period, the human becomes a Manchurian Candidate, still an upgraded ape and a victim of his own nature in the Anthropocene. In an attempt to overcome this de-sign crisis, the research presented in this thesis aims to address the necessity of the restoration of icons, as evidenced by Byzantine art and philosophy but neglected in the name of human supremacy and imperialism. This thesis elucidates Classical and Late Antiquity manuscripts in an effort to set a new ‘restore point’, endeavouring to launch the image in the current organosilicon substances; examples from Scripture narratives as well as from visual arts contribute to this effort. The proposed concluding scheme is the Module of Theōria, which reflects the major transhumanistic elements such as transmutation, interaction and fluidity. Theōria functions through noetic mechanisms, using ‘image and likeness’ as the prime carriers of knowledge. The anticipated outcome is to reveal a human investment in a pro-nature incorruptibility with the advent of Theōria in the field of Τechnoetics, where one can administer ‘image and likeness’ to gain capital liquidity.

This doctoral thesis is a discussion of the precariousness of the articulation poiesis/praxis/ theoria in music education in Brazil. Currently, the structure of Brazilian education finds itself in a half education (Halbbildung2) structure, with technicalizing tendencies, into which the teaching of music (in regular schooling and special schools in musical training) is inserted. This precarious articulation of poíesis/praxis/theoria in music education may be due, among other possible reasons, to the hegemony of the culture industry (as an ideological system) that promotes pre-established standards for consumption, and in the process traps aisthesis within a leveling and average taste. In this perspective, we seek to investigate the possibilities for the dialectical re-articulation of musical activities (poíesis/praxis/theoria) for a musical education grounded in music appreciation and comprehension of the work of art, an alternative to the culture industry. In this light, we start from the theoretical framework based on the adopted concepts (education, culture, culture industry, training / Bildung, the activities of poiesis, praxis and theoria), and we discuss the considerations of Adorno regarding music education, with emphasis on dialectical thinking. We examine ways for the articulation poiesis/praxis/theoria to occur, since in many contexts of musical teaching these activities are fully decoupled, making difficult a comprehensive understanding of the object of study. Through the various pedagogical proposals on education and musical training that emerged throughout the world in the twentieth and their evolution in Brazil, we retrospectively trace the gradual exclusion of music from regular schooling and the growing interference of the culture industry in the fields of education, of musical poetics and praxis, influencing listening habits and aisthesis (perception), taste and aesthetic judgment, as well as the indiscriminate use of methods of music education both biased and restricted to popular song. Our discussion of the training and teaching of music seeks the recoupling of the musical activities of poiesis, praxis and theoria in a dialectical, interactive and complementary, full and not technicalizing form, where poetics (composers and works) will be the synchronizing axis of these activities, disciplines and content, developing a critical, hermeneutic thought that is emancipated from the standards of musical consumption, be the musician songwriter, performer or musicologist. Finally, in order to verify the relevance, feasibility and practicability of the ideas discussed, we analyze the design of the musical education project Playing the Life (Tocando a Vida) of the Aparecido Savegnago Institution (Instituição Aparecido Savegnago), which takes into account this rearticulation of musical activities, from their pedagogical guidelines to their everyday pedagogy

The impact of Orthodox Christian neptic-psychotherapeutic interventions on self-reported depressive symptomatology and comorbid anxiety

Vujisic, Zoran 11 1900 (has links)
Orthodox Christianity represents the oldest Christian tradition. However, the tragic schism between the Christian East and West has resulted in a lost cognizance of the East by the West (Chrysostomos, 2007). Ultimately, this loss, for the West, involves the loss of part of its own Christian heritage. As attempts at rapprochement are made, on the ecclesiastical, cultural, and international levels, it is important that the West begin to develop an understanding of human psychology from an Orthodox perspective, i.e., a psychology consistent with the cosmology and soteriology of Orthodoxy. Orthodox Christian Psychotherapy bridges the divide between mystical, neptic, and hesychastic teachings and the methods and goals of modern Western psychotherapy. It is the meeting of the transcendent and the secular, and of spirituality and psychotherapy, as they impact all those in need of inner healing from spiritual, behavioral, and / or psychological disorders and pathologies (St. John Climacus, 1979; Romanides, 2007). This study in practical theology concretizes the above by examining the intensity of depressive symptomatology and comorbid anxiety before and after a twelve-week treatment plan using Orthodox Christian neptic-psychotherapeutic interventions and techniques. The results represent yet another step in disentangling the mystery of the relationship between spirituality, psychological treatment, and mental health. The findings, which confirm the efficacy of Orthodox Christian Psychotherapy, offer insight into the ways in which neptic-psychotherapeutic interventions may be applied at the pastoral and clinical level and utilized to treat and / or prevent depressive symptomatology and comorbid anxiety, and possibly other spiritual, behavioral, developmental, and / or psychological disorders and pathologies, in both the Orthodox and general populations. / Practical Theology / D. 以TRIZ方法探討數位有線電視的定價策略 / On the pricing strategy of digital cable TV by the method of TRIZ

Wen, Te Lan Unknown Date (has links)
In recent years, global television industry is moving from analog to digital era, and digitalization becomes a trend. The cable operators start to offer advanced services such as interactive televisions in addition to their existing video and audio services. Major issues facing the cable operators include how to operate their businesses, how to provide a variety of services, and how to justify their prices with the substantially increasing channels after digitalization. This study is to discuss the pricing strategy of the digital cable TV using an innovative method of “creative problem-solving theory”(Theoria Resheneyva Isobretatelskehuh Zadach,TRIZ) from the perspectives of economic development, industry, and consumers. We also recommend the pricing strategies for the digital cable TV industry and the government’s price policy based on the TRIZ results. This study suggests that the pricing policy for the digital cable TV industry is to offer different services with reasonable price discrimination. For example, free channels can be categorized into basic cable channels and optional cable channels with cable TV advertising. The pricing strategies for the pay channels are the fixing pricing strategy, product bundle pricing strategy, and differential pricing strategy. This study also suggests the authorities to make rate cap expiration, to re-regulate the advertising nature of programs and program-like television advertisings, and to cancel the limitation of the service area of the cable system.
