Idag ser vi hur parker i staden ter sig mer som urbana rum. I dessa rum ligger fokus på gångtrafikanter, cyklister, lek och sport. Urbaniseringen leder också till att vi förlorar den ”naturliga” grönskan i staden. Parken har stor potential att fungera som en förlängning av hemmet, för boende i närområdet. När vi bor allt mindre och mitt i staden, kan parken vara en plats där man söker kraft och stillhet. Enligt mig är det inte många parker i stadsdelen Vasastan, som bjuder in till privata sfärer som ger besökaren utrymme för detta. Det finns ett stort folkhälsoproblem i Stockholms stad som är den psykiska ohälsan. Detta innefattar depressionsdiganoser och ångestproblematik. Jag tror att man genom form kan skapa nya rum i parken som ger målgruppen som lider av dessa problem ett utrymme att ta sig tid för kontemplation. Särskilt då forskning tyder på att de gröna områdena i stadenfyller funktioner såsom förbättrad koncentrationsförmåga och sänkta stressnivåer. I mitt examensprojekt undersöker jag en park i Stockholm, i stadsdelen Norrutull som heter Bellevueparken. Där tittar jag på hur man kan arbeta med befintlig struktur och natur, och hur nya tillägg kan utveckla en del av parken till en plats för kontemplation. Detta är relevant då dessa nya rumsligheter, skulle kunna verka för ett bättre psykiskt välmående för individer bosatta mitt i staden. Mitt designförslag innefattar ett undersökande av hur form på dessa platser ofta är robusta och rejäla. Därför utforskar jag vad en tunnare estetik kan göra med känsligheten till objekten och materialen, på offentliga platser. Mitt tillvägagångssätt innefattar alltifrån platsbesök, till scanning av platsens kvalitéer, samt skiss och utforskande på plats i fullskala. Ljus, kontrasterande material, siktlinjer och privat sfär är några av utforskandets fokuspunkter.

Norra Sorgenfri är ett gammalt industriområde i östra Malmö som står inför en gedigen omvandlingsprocess för att bli en del av Malmös innerstad. Utvecklingen ska ske successivt under ett antal år och drivas av Malmö stad i samverkan med områdets privata fastighetsägare och verksamma aktörer, vilket gör processen väldigt komplex. Malmö stad har storslagna visioner för området och vill i ett tidigt skede utveckla Industrigatan, områdets “ryggrad”, till ett intressant och attraktivt stråk. Med detta vill Malmö stad föregå med gott exempel och inspirera till den vidare utvecklingen av hela Norra Sorgenfri. Utmaningen är att skapa ett attraktivt gaturum som inte blir en barriär och att dessutom lyckas genomföra omvandlingen tillsammans med aktörerna. Denna studie avser därför identifiera viktiga aspekter och kvaliteter som skapar attraktiva urbana gaturum. Vidare avser studien ge förslag på hur Gatukontoret i Malmö stad kan planera och skapa förutsättningar för att göra Industrigatan till ett sådant attraktivt urbant rum för att gynna den fortsatta utvecklingen av Norra Sorgenfri. Sedan genomfördes en hållbarhetsanalys av de olika styrdokumenten för Industrigatans omvandling. Resultaten visar att den fysiska utformningen av gatan är hållbar och har goda förutsättningar att bli ett attraktivt gaturum. Vad som dock kan utvecklas är samverkans- och deltagandemetoder samt vilka typer av arrangemang, attraktioner och aktiviteter som ska ge gatan ett rikt folkliv. Studien föreslår att Gatukontoret bör arbeta med metoder som “cultural planning”, “sensemaking” och “open-ended infrastructuring”. Som en del i detta arbete leder denna studie till en projektidé bestående av en serie workshops som avser behandla frågan “hur lockar vi folk till Industrigatan redan idag?”. / Norra Sorgenfri is an old industrial area located in the eastern parts of Malmö that are the subject for an extensive transformation process to become a part of the city center. The development should be done gradually and be operated by the City of Malmö in cooperation with the private property owners and stakeholders in the area. The City of Malmö has grand visions for Norra Sorgenfri and plans to develop Industrigatan, the “backbone” in the area, in an early stage to be an interesting and attractive linear space. By doing this the City of Malmö wish to inspire the rest of the development process. The challenge is to create an attractive street space, not a barrier, and furthermore to successfully complete the transformation together with the stakeholders. This study aims to identify important aspects and qualities that make attractive urban street spaces. Further, this study aims to give suggestions about how the Traffic Department in the City of Malmö can plan and create the conditions to make Industrigatan an attractive urban space to promote the continuing development of Norra Sorgenfri. After that, a sustainability analysis was conducted of the policy documents concerning the transformation of Industrigatan. The result shows that the physical design of the street is sustainable and has good potential to become an attractive streetscape. However, what can be developed is the methods for cooperation and participation and what types of arrangements, attractions and activities that will contribute to a rich street life. The study therefore suggests that the Traffic Department should work with methods like cultural planning, sensemaking and open-ended infrastructuring. As a part of this work the study leads to a project concept consisting of a series of workshops that should address the issue “how do we attract people to Industrigatan today?”.

The project Hope of the Remains deals with urban development from a spatial design perspective, using the Lövholmen area in Stockholm as a starting point.  The project’s purpose is to create a dialogue, to better understand and improve urban development. Also, to question what my responsibility with expertise in interior architecture is and to explore what resources the interior architect possesses.  Lövholmen bears an industrial history while also having a prominent art and design identity. The issue at stake is whether to demolish or preserve remains of the industrial period. The project may be a way of appreciating historical values, questioning environmental imprints, but also creating a nesting spatial experience for people. Like how animals seek a smaller, comfortable, and safe space to settle down. And by that, I mean spaces for people to gather to work, have conversations, have a meal, or just stay in while reading a book, which is mostly the smaller existing spaces or the smaller newly built interior rooms. However, public space is important to be preserved within the future of Lövholmen as a residential area. To create a vibrant neighborhood with coexistential values.  Hope of the Remains contains a concept and idea that are developed for the future of industrial properties that are currently empty. The idea is based on the property Nitrolack designed by the architects Nils Tesch and Lars Magnus Giertz for AB Wilh. Becker's paint factory, that was built in 1943-44. My master’s thesis investigates ​nesting as a phenomenon and its significance in these types of large spaces that hold qualities and challenges. How void and mass can be formed by color and shape. The project Hope of the Remains reflects our time, a debate about the urban growth and our responsibility for how we develop the city and how we can make use of remains, history and culture in the future. The design proposal is aimed to encourage commitment and interest. It is a way to create a conversation and inspire new visions for the development of Lövholmen and similar areas. The vision is intended to encourage dialogue. The design proposal within the project is a vision of a future in relation to what already exists on Lövholmen both historically, today and taking care of the industrial modernist remains for a new future. It is a way to increase the value of the existing structures, both a historical and environmental impact, but also the possibilities of the existing spaces as an asset for what can be developed here.
