Att jobba eller icke jobba : En uppsats om information och inspiration på www.ams.se

Höglund, Ann January 2006 (has links)
Abstract Title: To work or not to work, an essay about information and inspiration on www.ams.se. Number of pages: 39 Author: Ann Höglund Tutor: Peder Hård af Segerstad Course: Media and communication Studies D Period: Fall 2005 University: Uppsala University, Department of information science, Division of Media and Communication Purpose/Aim: To investigate the frequency of ethos, logos and pathos in the work-guides on www.ams.se, and study how they match the needs of the respondents in the essay-interviews. Method/Material: To investigate the needs and wishes for information I have made three group-interviews with university students. In order to analyse the texts and films on www.ams.se I have used tools from the modern rhetoric analysis. In the last part of my analysis I compared the results of the rhetoric analysis and the requests from the interviews to see if and how they match. Main Results: The respondents requested inspiration for their future work lives, and information that could de-dramatize the image of working. The texts on www.ams.se consist mostly of facts, while the films made a slightly more emotional contribution to the image of the occupation. The films showing relaxed and satisfied people can be seen as a way to de-dramatize the image of working-life. The people in the films offer the viewer a personal perspective on the job, and the texts present facts and information that might be used for further research. Key words: AMS, working life, information, inspiration, youths, ethos, logos, pathos.

Northern Youth Abroad: Exploring the Effects of a Cross-cultural Exchange Program from the Perspectives of Nunavut Inuit Youths

Aylward, Erin 13 September 2012 (has links)
Nunavut Inuit youths exhibit cultural resilience and leadership. However, researchers frequently neglect such assets and instead emphasize these youths’ challenges or perceived inadequacies. I conducted an intrinsic case study regarding Nunavut Inuit youths’ experiences with an experiential learning program, Northern Youth Abroad (NYA), in order to investigate participants’ growth in cross-cultural awareness, individual career goals, leadership, and global citizenship. Drawing on post-colonial theory, semi-structured interviews, archival research, and participant observation, I argue that NYA’s Nunavut Inuit participants reported significant personal growth in these four objectives. I also provide an in-depth analysis of how NYA’s Nunavut Inuit participants described and developed distinct and rich leadership styles that draw on Inuit and Euro-Canadian influences.

Gymnasieåren, en tid för stillasittande? : En kvantitativ studie om gymnasieelevers stillasittande beteende / The high school years, a time for sedentariness? : A quantitative study on youths sedentary behaviour

Clementson, Thomas, Ristevski, Sebastian January 2013 (has links)
During the past decade, the media and scholars told that sedentary behavior is not good for you, and you therefore need to exercise regularly to keep up a good health. Recent reports now show that a sedentary behavior, defined as muscular inactivity increases the risk of most of today's common diseases and premature death. These risks are independent of physical activity between your sedentary periods. Sedentary time should be considered a separate health and lifestyle variable. Some are very sedentary in their leisure time and have a very sedentary job. But there is a group of people who can not influence their own sedentary time during weekdays, the children and youth in school. This study focuses on how high school student’s day at school may appear and how much time they spend sedentary. The aim of the study was to examine sedentary behavior among high school students at their school and at their leisure time. The study is done by a quantitative method with surveys involving 154 high school students. To analyze the data t-tests and Pearson's chi-square test are used. The results show that an average high school student spends 58% of their waking hours every week sedentary. Most of their sedentary hours are during their days at school and especially during their lessons.

Inställning till anabola androgena steroider : En undersökning om unga killar, som tränar på gym, och deras inställning till anabola androgena steroider

Nyberg, Caroline, Arnesson, Julia January 2010 (has links)
This is a study about gym training young men (age 18-20) and their attitude against anabolic androgenic steroids, AAS. In our study we examine if the muscular ideal in our society have any effect on young men and the young men’s attitude against their body and their training. We want to find out what attitude gym training young men have against AAS, and also what has had the influence to this attitude.          The study contains six qualitative performed interviews with young men who are training at the gym, which are based on relevant information about their training habits, nutritional supplement, influence, the muscular ideal, the gym culture and medias effect on young men when it comes to body ideals.            The young men’s attitudes is connected and compared to prior research about gym-training young men and what affects them to have a certain attitude against AAS, body and training. In our study we also use a theory by Giddens about social interaction and the late modern society we live in.           The conclusions of the result and analysis is that young men who trains at the gym for the purpose of getting bigger and in relation to the training takes nutritional supplements, have a more liberal attitude against AAS compared to those young men who doesn’t. Media, friends, equals at the gym and the gym culture are all factors that affect young men in their positive attitude in opposition to AAS.

Ett elevperspektiv på sex- och samlevnadsundervisning i grundskolan : En retrospektiv enkätstudie bland gymnasielever / Students' perspective on sexual and coexistence education in Primary School : A retrospective survey among high school students

Santaoja, Kaj January 2011 (has links)
Public health is a concern of many important areas of society and it is therefore of great importance to examine and expand the goals of public health work within different sectors, e.g., school. Sexually transmitted diseases, sexual violence and mental health problems related to sexual orientation are some of the public health problems in society today. Throughout childhood and teenage years, norms and attitudes regarding sexuality and coexistence are formed, which means that school is an important arena when it comes to creating proficient conditions for    coexistence and sexual health. The quality of sex and coexistence education in Swedish schools differs in quality; for content and magnitude vary greatly among schools. It is, therefore, of interest to study how students experience sex and coexistence education, like prioritizations and desires. The purpose of this study is to describe how high school students experience sex and coexistence education in primary school, and which parts the students consider significant affecting coexistence and sexual health. A quantitative survey (n=113) was conducted at a high school in northeast Skåne. The survey consisted of ten standardized questions regarding experiences and magnitude of sex-and coexistence education in primary school. The results showed that 58,3 percent of the students were dissatisfied with the teaching, and the students prioritized aspects of sexuality and coexistence were included to a lesser extent than the content that was included in the sex- and coexistence education. The teachings in school focused primarily on biological aspects whilst the students prioritized aspects of coexistence. The participants did not consider the school as the main source of information about sex and coexistence. Instead, the students considered friends and family as the primary sources. To decrease the difference between the school and students approach to sex-and coexistence education, an collaboration with external resources should be established. A regional collaboration with affiliates that work with teaching sex and coexistence, like RFSU, could be established in order to gain a larger and abundant content that satisfies the needs of the students.

The study of E-generation's media preferences

Yang, Yao-Jung 09 August 2006 (has links)
Recent advances in networking technology have led to a paradigm shift in broadcast media. The entry of the Internet as a form of popular media means that traditional media are now seeking to transform themselves in a bid for survival. Changes in media broadcasting methods have made the spread and acquisition of information faster and easier. Today¡¦s youth of the E-generation live in an economically stable and technologically advanced society. Changes in society, politics and the traditional family structure have made youths an increasingly important market as their buying power and influence on family decisions have increased. The goal of this study is to discover how the subjects of this study utilize various types of media. Media utilization includes their media preferences, utilization frequency and duration as well as where they use it most often. Beyond utilization, the study goes on to examine and categorize the subjects¡¦ lifestyle and media utilization motives. The study then seeks to discover if there are any links between the subjects¡¦ lifestyles and their media utilization motives. Finally, the study examines the question of ¡§Do different lifestyles or media utilization motives lead to differences in media utilization?¡¨ The subjects of this study were E-generation youths (i.e. young people aged between 13 and 22). Taking into consideration the ease of conducting the survey, information availability and cost, Taipei and Kaohsiung (including their counties and cities) were selected as the regions to be sampled. As for the types of media, the five common forms of TV, newspapers, magazines, the Internet and radio were selected for use in this study into media preferences and usage. For this study, the collection of samples was carried out in the form of questionnaire surveys in Taipei and Kaohsiung. After the sample data was acquired, the lifestyles and media utilization motives were categorized and labeled. After factor analysis, lifestyle was divided into four categories: ¡§Community Involvement and Socialization¡¨, ¡§Fashionable and Trendy¡¨, ¡§Pro-Active¡¨ and ¡§Internet Home¡¨; media utilization motives were divided into three types, these being: ¡§Need for Entertainment and Peer Acceptance¡¨, ¡§Need to Increase Knowledge and Skills¡¨ and ¡§Need for Fashion Shopping¡¨. Finally the collected data were subjected to statistical analysis using the SPSS 10.0 software in order to validate the study¡¦s various hypotheses. The results of the study indicated that among youths the media preference was TV first, followed by the Internet. As for frequency of usage, 46.3% of those interviewed used the Internet every day while 41.0% watched TV every day. In terms of duration, those who used the Internet for 5 hours or more made up 24.0% while those who used it for 2 to 4 hours made up 64%. Those who watched TV for 5 hours or more made up 11.6% while those who watched for 2 to 4 hours made up 72.1%. This showed that when it comes to media preferences and utilization, despite youth¡¦s preferences and increasing dependence on the Internet, TV remains an indispensable part of their daily life. By differentiating amongst the sampling locations of this study, it was found that youths in Taipei used the Internet most, followed by TV; the exact reverse was true for youths in Kaohsiung. This showed that their location and environment affected youths¡¦ media preferences. When youths were classified according to their lifestyle, different lifestyles resulted in media utilization motive variances; different media utilization motives also in turn affected how youths utilized media. Based on the above conclusions, the Internet and TV currently remain the types of media that youths are willing to use and devote a great deal of time to. Newspaper, magazine and radio by contrast made up a smaller segment with most youths having significantly less contact with these types of media and spending less time even when they do.

Class, Place and Identity in a Satellite Town

le Grand, Elias January 2010 (has links)
The central aim of this study is to examine processes of identity formation among white, working-class youths in a marginalized area located on the outskirts of South London. It is primarily based on long-term ethnographic fieldwork but also on analyses of web sites, newspapers and popular culture. The study contributes to research on ‘chavs’, and on youth (sub)cultures and social class. Identity is conceived as constructed through the dialectical interplay between ‘external’ processes of social categorization and ‘internal’ processes of identification and boundary work. The context of the study is the recent moral panic in Britain over ‘chavs’. In public discourse, the term chav emerged as a way of pathologizing white working-class youths adopting specific visual markers of taste. The study shows that most respondents, and the area in general, were positioned in the stigmatizing discourse on chavs, and the spaces and places that they are associated with. When interpreting the meaning of chav, the respondents drew strong boundaries against the term, and used it to categorize others. In contrast to earlier research, the notion of chav is not related to a subcultural style adopted by socially excluded groups of youths, but primarily a form of categorization serving to pathologize important aspects of the working-class culture in the area. The findings support the contention that spatiality plays an essential role in the formation of classed identities. In light of the stigmatizing perceptions of the area, the study explores the often ambiguous ways in which the respondents negotiated their sense of belonging, community and safety. Moreover, in relation to taste and masculinity, the study demonstrates how the construction and performance of classed identifications and distinctions, and thus symbolic class hierarchies, are related to the spatial context.

Playing fair : Swedish football clubs´ social responsibility / Ett schysst spel : svenska fotbollsklubbars sociala ansvar

Rosenquist, Adrian, Wiahl, Peter January 2015 (has links)
Sports impact on society and how sports activities can contribute to the well-being of individuals have been studied before. Football is a sport which has been studied a lot regarding the football clubs’ impact on the society. These studies have mainly been done on larger and professional football clubs in Europe. However, at the moment there is no study on smaller clubs in lower divisions. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to analyze how, larger and smaller, Swedish football clubs work to contribute to social sustainability through their work with their youths. This was done by interviewing key personnel in a number of selected Swedish football clubs. The result was analyzed by using our modified stakeholder model based on the Salience model described by Mitchell et al. (1997). This model describes different stakeholder groups that could be salient to a firm, which we apply on football clubs. In our findings we discovered that youths were one of the most important stakeholders to a football club. They were strengthened by the local authorities and their parents. Furthermore, in our conclusion we found that there are important stakeholders who affect the ability of the football clubs’ ambition to take social responsibility.
