Planejamento estratégico como diferencial competitivo na aplicação da tecnologia de radioisótopos / Strategic planning as competitive differential in the implementation of radioisotopes technology

O planejamento estratégico é uma das ferramentas da administração de grande importância para a tomada de decisão. A área nuclear representa um segmento de grande importância na sociedade moderna, não só na produção de energia, bem como em muitos outros setores da economia. Objetivou-se nesse trabalho de doutorado propor a implantação de um planejamento norteado pela ferramenta estratégica, o BSC-Balanced Scorecard por meio dos indicadores de desempenho relacionais, de modo a facilitar a visualização da forma mais simples possível pelos gestores, com base nos atuais planos estratégicos institucionais do Laboratório de Produção de Fontes Seladas. A metodologia utilizada nesse estudo acadêmico de doutorado foi o estudo de caso, o qual considerou o período de pesquisa de 2008 a 2015. Entre os principais resultados esperados com esse estudo podem ser citados: uma melhor visualização dos planos estratégicos, uma ferramenta adicional de apoio a gestão, a possibilidade de mudança de periodicidade de análises de resultados e metas a serem atingidas entre outros. Diante dos resultados esperados foi possível concluir que este estudo poderá ser de grande valia para o Laboratório de Produção de Fontes Seladas, caso seu gestores optem por adotar essa ferramenta de gestão. Por fim, esta proposição possibilitaria a este laboratório, uma maior facilidade no processo de identificação e mapeamento de futuras direções da organização a partir dos recursos que possui e que, de certa forma, trarão como benefícios, maior visibilidade e ações mais eficazes. / Strategic planning is one of most important management tools for decision making. The Nuclear Area is a major segment in modern society not only in energy production but in many other sectors of the economy. The objective of this doctoral research was to propose the implementation of planning strategic tool, the BSCBalanced Scorecard through relational performance indicators in order to facilitate the visualization in the simplest possible way for managers based on current and institutional strategic plans of the Sealed Sources Production Laboratory. The methodology used in this academic doctoral study was a case study, which considered the survey period from 2008 to 2015. The main results expected from this study can be cited as: a better view of the strategic plans, an additional tool in order to support management decision making, the ability to change the frequency of analysis and results and targets to be achieved among others. After the results that this research has achieved it can be concluded that this study could be of a great value to the Sealed Sources Production Laboratory if their managers choose to adopt this management tool. Finally, this proposal will enable this lab mapping directions for this lab in a more effective way using the resources it has, by doing so, it will bring benefits such as greater visibility and more effective action on strategic decision making process.

We develop a dual open-economy model which incorporates infrastructure as a factor of production to investigate growth-enhancing effects of a competitive exchange rate policy under different levels of investment in infrastructure. It is suggested that a competitive exchange rate policy coordinated with an appropriate infrastructure policy should produce better results than the former policy alone. By increasing productivity in the tradable sector and by reducing inflationary pressures, this policy contributes to the success of an economic growth strategy led by a competitive currency / Desenvolvemos um modelo de economia aberta, com dois setores, que incorpora infraestrutura como um fator de produção, de forma a investigar os efeitos de uma política de taxa de câmbio competitiva sob diferentes níveis de investimento em infraestrutura. Sugere-se que uma política cambial coordenada com uma política de infraestrutura deve produzir melhores resultados. However, some studies indicate that the relationship between Six Sigma and competitive advantage is not that clear. In this context, the main objective of this dissertation is to identify the relationship between the implementation factors of Six Sigma and competitive priorities in companies that operating in Brazil. As steps, this research conducted bibliometric analysis, content analysis, descriptive analysis and factor analysis. The research investigated 45 companies, through a survey, to find the relationship between Six Sigma implementation factors with competitive priorities in Brazil. Implantation factors identified were: "collect and availability of data", "previous infrastructure", "performance indicators", "goal setting", "capacity for change", "top management involvement" and "statistical thinking" . The results indicate the implementation factors that have relationship with competitive priorities are "collection and availability of data," "previous infrastructure" and "capacity for change". In addition to this result, it was found that the dimensions of competitive priorities that have relationship with implementation factors are "reliability" and "flexibility". / O Seis Sigma é um programa de melhoria adotado por muitas empresas para melhorar o seu desempenho nos negócios. No entanto, algumas pesquisas apontam que a relação entre o Seis Sigma e a melhoria da vantagem competitiva não está clara. Nesse contexto, o objetivo dessa dissertação é identificar o relacionamento entre os fatores de implantação do Seis Sigma e as prioridades competitivas em empresas que operam no Brasil. Como etapas, essa pesquisa realizou análises bibliométrica e de conteúdo, análise descritiva e análise fatorial. A pesquisa investigou 45 empresas, por meio de uma survey, para encontrar o relacionamento entre os fatores de implantação do Seis Sigma com as prioridades competitivas no Brasil. Os fatores de implantação identificados foram: coleta e disponibilização de dados , infraestrutura prévia , uso de indicadores de desempenho , estabelecimento de metas , capacidade cultural , envolvimento da alta administração e pensamento estatístico . Os resultados apontam para o relacionamento entre os fatores coleta e disponibilização dos dados , infraestrutura prévia e capacidade de mudança com o fator prioridade. Além desse resultado, foi encontrado que as dimensões confiabilidade e flexibilidade das prioridades competitivas possuem relação com os fatores de implantação do Seis Sigma.

Método de análise biomecânica da saída tipo atletismo na natação competitiva / Biomechanical analysis method of track start in the competitive swimming

Quando falamos em esporte de alto rendimento, estamos falando diretamente em vencer os limites, e na natação milésimos de segundo, fazem a diferença. Os aspectos técnicos como a saída, o nado e a virada são os principais responsáveis pelo resultado final em provas de 50 e 100 metros e nestas provas, à saída tem papel importante no resultado final podendo corresponder a 10% (50 m) e 5% (100 m) do tempo total de prova. Desta forma esta pesquisa buscou desenvolver um método de análise da fase inicial das provas de natação, a saída de cima do bloco até o início do nado, de forma individual, com o intuito de aprimorar seus tempos finais de prova, otimizando a terceira fase da saída (fase submersa), por meio de uma análise biomecânica das fases que compõem a saída do nado livre. Foram utilizados nove (9) atletas da categoria máster que participam de competições nacionais em provas de 50 metros e 100 metros e que possuam uma carga mínima de cinco (5) treinos por semana. Para a análise do movimento as imagens foram captadas por quatro (4) câmeras sendo três (3) posicionadas perpendicularmente à raia do teste (2 externas e 1 submersa) e uma (1) posicionada posteriormente ao atleta. Todas as imagens foram editadas e analisadas através do software Kinovea 0.8.24. e os dados de velocidade e aceleração obtidos foram analisados e plotados através do software Microsoft Excel®. Após os testes e as análises dos vídeos e dos dados de cada atleta foi possível verificar a eficácia do método para encontrar possíveis erros de execução na técnica de saída e criando possibilidades de correção para técnicos e atletas de provas de velocidade (50 e 100 metros), demonstrando ser um método de baixo custo e de fácil manuseio. / When we talk about high performance sport, we're talking directly to overcome the limits, and in swimming, milliseconds make difference. Technical aspects such as start, swimming and turn, are the main responsible for the final result in tests of 50 and 100 meters and in these swim, the output as so important in the final result, may correspond to 10% (50 m) and 5% (100 m) of the total test time. Thus this research has developed a method of analysis of the initial phase of the swimming competitions, the start from the block to the start of the swim, individually, in order to improve their end times swim, optimizing the third stage of the (submerged phase) by means of a biomechanical analysis of the stages that comprise the start of the freestyle. Nine (9) athletes of master category participating in national competitions in 50 meters and 100 meters and have a minimum charge of five (5) workouts per week were used. For the analysis of motion images were captured by four (4) cameras, three (3) positioned perpendicularly to the test ray (2 external and 1 submerged) and one (1) positioned behind the athlete. All images were edited and analyzed by Kinovea 0.8.24 software and the velocity and acceleration data obtained were analyzed and plotted using software Microsoft Excel®. After testing and analysis of video data of each athletes was able to verify the effectiveness of the method for finding possible implementation errors in the start technic and creating correction possibilities for technical and speed events athletes (50 and 100 meters), proving to be a method of low cost and easy to handle. / Dissertação (Mestrado)

A research report submitted to the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the Degree of Master of Science in Engineering (Telecoms) December 2015 / The research focused on the development of a Voucher Management System (VOMS) which had a higher availability as compared to existing VOMS which had been designed to an availability of less than 99,999. The need for the newly proposed VOMS was driven by the changing needs from a competitive consumer market. This market traditionally made use of PrePaid services (VOMS), typically for the voice services during a typical person’s awake hours during a day. However, the market now drives a diverse set of requirements, including DATA, SMS and VAS which is required at all times of the day. The research contribution achieved a proposal for a VOMS in which an extremely high availability was realised. The proposal for the new VOMS is characterised by a separation of the computation function from the storage functionality. Each function consists of several servers in a clustered arrangement to ensure both improved system performance as well as redundancy for component failure.

Det har blivit till en global insikt att jordens framtid, i mångt och mycket, vilar i människans händer. Ett fortsatt överutnyttjande av resurser i samspel med de avsevärda växthusgaserna som släpps ut är därmed förödande för samhället. Just detaljhandeln är en bransch som bidrar till omfattande negativa effekter på samhället, dels på grund utav det enorma matsvinn som varje dag blir då produkter passerar ”bäst före-datum” och dels beroende på de negativa utsläpp som blir vid produktionen av vissa produkter. Forskning har visat att åtskilliga företag inom detaljhandeln idag väljer att beakta sitt CSR-engagemang (bidrag till ett mer hållbart samhälle) som en resurs. Dock står detaljhandeln inför många betydande risker och offentlig kritik i relation till hur de beaktar sitt CSR-engagemang som en resurs. Kritiken handlar bland annat om hur livsmedelsbutiker tar sitt ansvar i försörjningskedjan. Givet den exponering (problematik) detaljhandeln står inför beträffande de betydande riskerna och den offentliga kritiken som kan bli faktum om inte CSR-aspekter beaktas blir det därför betydelsefullt att undersöka detta område: Hur kan ett aktivt CSR-arbete betraktas vara en långsiktig konkurrensfördel (inom detaljhandeln)? Studien tar sin utgångspunkt i den resursbaserade vyn och VRIO-ramverket. Det förstnämnda syftar till att identifiera ett företags konkurrensfördelar medan VRIO-ramverket analyserar hur konkurrensfördelarna kan bli långsiktiga. Till studien används en kvalitativ metod där semistrukturerade intervjuer genomförts på tre svenska företag inom detaljhandeln, samt analys av tillhörande företagsdokument. Slutsatsen visar att det inte är möjligt att dra någon allmängiltig slutsats angående om ett aktivt CSR-arbete kan betraktas vara en långsiktig konkurrensfördel eller inte. Slutsatsen är istället att ett aktivt CSR-engagemang bör ses som en potentiell källa till att uppnå långsiktig konkurrensfördel samt att ett företags CSR-engagemang i framtiden kommer vara av existentiell betydelse för det egna företaget. / It has become a general knowledge that the future of the earth rests in the hands of humankind. A continued over-exploitation of resources in interaction with the significant greenhouse gases being emitted is consequently devastating to society. Just the retail sector is an industry that contributes to the significant negative effects on society, partly due to the negative emissions that occur in the production of certain products and partly because of the huge food waste every day when products pass” best before dates”. Research has shown that several retail companies today choose to pay regard to their CSR commitment (contribution to a more sustainable society) as a resource. However, retailing faces many significant risks and public criticism in relation to how they consider their CSR commitment as a resource. Given the increased awareness and consideration of CSR as a resource in relation to the problematic retail trade, it is therefore important to investigate: How active CSR work can be regarded as a long term competitive advantage (within retail)? Which aims to understand the relationship between retail and CSR activities. The study will be based on the resource based view and the VRIO-framework. The former aims at identifying a company's competitive advantage while the VRIO-framework analyzes how the competitive benefits can be long term. The study used a qualitative method in which semi-structured interviews have been used in meetings with three major companies in the retail sector in Sweden. Furthermore, the companies' documents were also examined. The result revealed that we cannot draw a general conclusion about whether active CSR work can be considered as a long-term competitive advantage or not, but it should be seen as a potential source for achieving long term competitive advantage. On the other hand, the study concluded that a company's CSR commitment will be decisive in order to remain in the future market.

As a result of a growing demand of fast produced fashion and new trends, it seems as if the consumers' needs are changing continuously. Furthermore, the product development of clothes often take place on expected demand and desires, several months in advance and not on request. The fashion industry faces further issues, for instance the difficulty of producing items with perfect fit and how to optimise inventory. Customisation, and more specifcally mass customisation could be a solution to these issues. It would be a way for companies to offer customised products for the individual consumer, but with a price similar to that of massproduction. Earlier research have claimed that digital technologies can be implemented by companies in combination with mass customisation to make their business more effective. How companies work with acitivites and resources to optimise the business process in-house is called operations management and can be crucial for the survival of a company. The aim of this essay is to understand how companies in the fashion industry can work with customisation and mass customisation with the support of digital technologies in order to be competative. Through working with this concept companies may meet the consumers' need and desires. We have, in the theoretical framework, used a model founded in the five dimensions: quality, speed, dependability, flexibility and cost. With these in mind we have studied three companies working with customisation. By doing that we have come to results showing that the concept of mass mustomisation affects all dimensions, but mostly quality. The concept can be used by companies to offer consumers what they demand when they demand it and thus create competitiveness. / Till följd av en växande efterfrågan på snabbt producerat mode och nya trender, verkar konsumenters behov i ständigt förändring. Vidare sker produktutveckling av kläder ofta på prognotiserade behov och önskemål, flera månader i förväg och inte på aktuell efterfrågan. Modebranschen besitter ytterligare problem, som bland annat berör svårigheter att ta fram plagg med en bra passform, samt att optimera lagerhållning. För att frånkomma dessa problemen kan kundanpassning och mer specifikt - konceptet mass customisation ses som en lösning. Det blir ett sätt för företag att erbjuda kundanpassade produkter för den individuella konsumenten, men med ett pris liknande massproduktion. Tidigare forskning har lyft fram digitala teknologier som kan implementeras av företag i kombination med mass customasition, för effektiviserade aktiviteter i verksamheten. Hur företag vidare arbetar med aktiviteter och resurser internt för att optimera affärsprocessen kan benämnas som operations management och kan vara avgörande för ett företags överlevnad. Denna uppsats syftar till att förstå hur modeföretag kan arbeta med kundanpassning och mass customisation, med stöd av digitala teknologier, för att skapa konkurrenskraftighet. Genom att arbeta med detta koncept kan företag i större utsträckning tillmötesgå konsumenters behov och önskemål. Vi har i den teoretiska referensramen utgått från en modell som grundar sig i de fem dimensionerna: kvalitet, hastighet, pålitlighet, flexibilitet och kostnader. Utifrån dessa har vi studerat tre fallföretag som arbetar med kundanpassning på något sätt. Således har vi fått fram ett resultat som pekar på att konceptet mass customisation påverkar samtliga dimensioner, men att det främst karaktäriseras av dimensionen kvalitet. Konceptet kan användas av företag för att erbjuda konsumenter vad de efterfrågar när de efterfrågar det och på så sätt skapa konkurrenskraft.
