Following Best Practices in Microfinance: The case of Disabled People’s Organisations in Nepal

Juhlin Lagrelius, Hannes January 2016 (has links)
Microfinance has generally been acclaimed as one way to reduce poverty through the provision of financial services targeting the previously “unbankable” poor. Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) are amongst society’s most excluded groups financially and the absence of PWDs within mainstream Microfinance urges Disabled People’s Organisations (DPOs) to directly engage in Microfinance. The practices by such alternative actors are suggested to be generally rejected because they risk being inefficient and failing. The objective of this study is to analyse examples of how DPOs in Nepal practice Microfinance and whether they generally follow recommended best practices. The correlation with what is perceived as best practices provide evidence to suggest whether the DPOs’ practices should be generally rejected or motivated as plausible and justified accordingly. To accomplish this, a well-justified analytical framework of recommended best practices for DPOs engaged in Microfinance is created, and field research is undertaken in Nepal, April-May 2014. It can be concluded that recommended best practices are followed at a general level; however, the extent varies within and between the analysed practices. The results provide sufficient evidence to suggest that the practices are plausible and justified accordingly, and should not be generally rejected.

Avaliação de boas práticas em saúde mental na atenção psicossocial / Evaluation of best practices in mental health in psychosocial care

Milena Hohmann Antonacci 05 February 2016 (has links)
A evidência deve embasar as intervenções e serviços. The redirection of the care model in Brazil raises the need to discuss the reinvention of practices in tune with the scenery of changes. The practices must now be developed in order to overcome the isolation of bars, walls and keys, the deletion of the subject, the suppression of symptoms and the personalities of individuals in psychological distress. Given this, the present study aims to evaluate best practices in mental health in psychosocial care in the context of a city in Southern Brazil. To do so, it is organized as a constructivist evaluation research, with a responsive approach, as it develops a critical consensus among stakeholdres. It is based on the Fourth Generation Evaluation, proposed by Guba and Lincoln (2011), which emerges as a methodological option and articulates with the theoretical framework of \"Best Practice in Community Mental Health\" proposed by Thornicroft and Tansella (2010). This one is presented in order to identify best practices in mental health based on the articulation of three indispensable and inseparable pillars: ethics, as a fundamental principle that should guide the planning, assistance and assessment of services; evidence, which must base the interventions and services; and experience, as an evidence of what is being produced in the local and regional experience of organizing network services. As a result of the process, Welcoming practices, Singular Therapeutic Project and Transfer of Care emerged for discussion. The Welcoming becomes concrete in the actions of the Porta Aberta project, and it means qualified hearing at the moment the need arises, besides representing the offer of quality care based on the relationship process that strengthens the bonds and the construction of life projects. The Singular Therapeutic Project is presented as best practice, as it is able to give individualized responses to the needs of the subject in order to create, as a result, a person who is able to walk through life. It is set in a shared manner among staff, user and family, according to the therapeutic goals for each subject, and it uses the reference technician (ou professional), the mini teams, therapeutic workshops, therapeutic groups, assemblies, in other words, any offers and proposals which allow the subject to resume the engagement with the spaces of the city, on the way to production of life. Regarding the Transfer of Care, it enables the person who lives the process not only to have access to a network of services but, above all, to seek their emancipation through its support. To do so, it invests in practices that encourage the subjects\' autonomy, using instruments such as the Therapeutic Monitoring, Patient Discharge Support Group, spaces for decisions and discussions, motivation for searching and solving problems, recognition activities of city areas , transport, culture and leisure. In addition, it invests in actions with the Basic Health Care, based on the matrix support with processes of continuing education with the teams and mapping of the mental health situation in the territories. At the end of this study, the conclusion was that the psychosocial care model showed capability of producing best practices in mental health, and these have changed the lives of individuals in psychological distress, and have helped in the process of conquering social spaces again

Addressing the Barriers to Regional Electric Vehicle Projects through Stakeholder Engagement

Hidy, Kareisa, Javanmashmool, Maryam, Nathe, Nathalie January 2012 (has links)
The transport sector is making slow progress towards sustainability, particularly given the urgency and scale of the sustainability challenges associated with the sector and the number of solutions that exist. This thesis uses a three-phase research methodology to identify and provide guidance to help address the barriers preventing the expansion of one of the most rapidly growing transportation alternatives: electric vehicles. The engagement of stakeholders can act as a strategic point of intervention to address these barriers and facilitate the regional market introduction of the technology. A process was therefore developed to help project management in the pre-project planning phase to address the key challenges to engagement that are commonly experienced on electric vehicle projects. The process combines a Strategic Sustainable Development approach with Best Practice for Engagement. Information was sourced from literature and interviews with experts in electric vehicles, stakeholder engagement and Strategic Sustainable Development. Initial feedback from testing the process on an electric vehicle project indicates that this guidance is timely and likely to become widely applicable on similar projects in the future.

How should manipulation of IoT devices in the smart home be handled and addressed by users and developers? : A systematic literature study to map best practicesfor smart homes

Rosell, Mathias January 2020 (has links)
Users of IoT devices are for many people today part of everyday life and more and more devices are connected to people's households. Smart homes have everything from refrigerators and surveillance cameras connected to a network and the internet. The problem with this is that many of these units do not have sufficient capacity or lack adequate security measures to protect themselves against potential attack vectors. Lack of security for devices in the smart home can cause the devices to be hacked and manipulated by attackers. Those who can protect the smart home from tampering with its IoT devices are the users in the smart home and the developers of the IoT devices. Although it is not always clear for whom the security measures apply to, which is something that this study aims to clarify. This literature study is based on existing security measures identified by previous research. It differs from previous research by mapping out which security measures and best practices that are applicable to users and developers to protect the smart home from being manipulated. Using a systematic literature search, 22 studies were selected to answer the study's question. To answer the study's research question, a mapping method is used. The method is used to map and identify which actions are recommended for both users and developers. Using the previous research, a framework is created to clarify what the user in the smart home can do and what actions developers can and should take. The framework also demonstrates a recommended order from the author in which the measures should be carried out.

Web site security maturity of the European Union and its member states : A survey study on the compliance with best practices of DNSSEC, HSTS, HTTPS, TLS-version, and certificate validation types

Rapp, Axel January 2021 (has links)
With e-governance steadily growing, citizen-to-state communication via Web sites is as well, placing enormous trust in the protocols designed to handle this communication in a secure manner. Since breaching any of the protocols enabling Web site communication could yield benefits to a malicious attacker and bring harm to end-users, the battle between hackers and information security professionals is ongoing and never-ending. This phenomenon is the main reason why it is of importance to adhere to the latest best practices established by specialized independent organizations. Best practice compliance is important for any organization, but maybe most of all for our governing authorities, which we should hold to the highest standard possible due to the nature of their societal responsibility to protect the public. This report aims to, by conducting a quantitative survey, study the Web sites of the governments and government agencies of the member states of the European Union, as well as Web sites controlled by the European Union to assess to what degree their domains comply with the current best practices of DNSSEC, HSTS, HTTPS, SSL/TLS, and certificate validation types. The findings presented in this paper show that there are significant differences in compliance level between the different parameters measured, where HTTPS best practice deployment was the highest (96%) and HSTS best practice deployment was the lowest (3%). Further, when comparing the average best practice compliance by country, Denmark and the Netherlands performed the best, while Cyprus had the lowest average.

Mobilitetshus för ett hållbart resande : En studie om bäst praktik angående mobilitetshus / Mobility house for a sustainable travel : A best practice study regarding mobility house

Ahlfridh, Emmy, Tiljander, Anna January 2021 (has links)
