Minařík, Miloš January 2015 (has links)
This thesis attempts to contribute to the general recognition of the phenomenon known as active audience that is generated by technical possibilities of contemporary digitalized media world collectively known as the era of Web 2.0. In this respect, the thesis follows the specific aspects, which accompany the transition from traditional ways of communication and methods of spreading information in the new and constantly evolving world of cyberspace. The thesis is based on the current general principles and theories, which are applied and compared in a relevant form at the Fan community site Slavistickenoviny.cz. The thesis follows two main directions. The first one focuses on the Web site as a product of citizen journalism. It deals with a comparison of the efforts of its authors with professional media outcomes. It also observes the rules, that are taken from the media and on the contrary evaluates differences. At the same time, the thesis deals with professional media taking over the amateur content. The second main aim focuses on a virtual community formed around the web itself. With application of qualitative research and discourse analyses, the thesis focuses on the search of internal mechanisms and the principles of the virtual community functioning. It reveals its overt and covert manifestations and...

[en] UBIQUITOUS COMPUTING AS A PROJECTUAL TOOL FOR DESIGN TEACHING / [pt] A UBIQUIDADE COMPUTACIONAL COMO FERRAMENTA DE ENSINO PROJETUAL EM DESIGN

MARCELO FERNANDES PEREIRA 03 May 2013 (has links)
[en] We are now living in a world where information technologies give us many possibilities for permanent interpersonal connection. Through social networks, collaborative tools and cloud computing, we can keep in constant touch with a large amount of data generated by those who exist in our social and professional circles. Today’s university students don’t see those technologies as wonders from a modern world. As members of the Millennial Generation, raised in an interconnected multimedia environment, they use the digital communication tools in a very natural way in their daily lives. As they their professional lives begin, those technologies become part of their work toolset, optimizing teamwork and boosting their productivity. However, it is surprising that in the twenty-first century, most of those resources are not applied in class. There is a complete mismatch between the way the students think and work outside the university and the methods used by their tutors. It is still common to find teachers that, regardless of their technological knowledge level, inhibit the use of digital tools in class, asking their students to turn off their cellphones and portable computers and eliminating any contact with external sources of information. The usefulness of those tools are underestimated in an exaggerated way and teachers ignore the fact that they are fundamental for the students professional lives. This study was aimed at the investigation of digital collaborative methods through the use of everyday technologies as a means to verify the impact on the academic performance of the students. For this purpose, four controlled experiments were conducted in several Design classes at PUC-Rio, where the progressive implementation of digital tools led to the proposal for an update of the teaching methodologies. The experiments made it possible to verify that the students are able to integrate the collaborative tools in their academic lives with ease, demonstrating a visible improvement in their production quality. As a conclusion, the controlled introduction of those tools in the academic environment can offer important subsidies for their efficient use as the students enter their professional lives.

Ferry, Aurélien 21 December 2018 (has links)
Today, humanity finds itself subject to profound changes that have remained until know unknown, changes that question the relationship between humans and the world. Each change is the foundation of new areas of activity that did not exist before. To invent these new activities, the new generations of entrepreneurs and startuppers integrate into networks (collective intelligence), collaborate with applications (artificial intelligence), use their emotions (emotional intelligence), and look for adult education courses (andragogical intelligence).Coaches gradually turn into facilitators. Since 2014, we have trained, equipped, and sensitized a hundred of them, in five French regions and five Moroccan regions. In total, 12,900 people wishing to become entrepreneurs have benefited from this new form of enabling support. We were able to create a skills map based on these new facilitators to transform current coaches.

The study was based on the contextualization of the theme, with a brief description of the concept of smart cities and origin of the term, as well as the survey and definition of concepts related to the processes of collective intelligence and its derivations, and concepts related to big data and networked organizations, based on the work of Clay Shirky, Manuel Castells, Lucia Santaella, James Surowiecki and Henry Jenkins. After the support of the historical survey, this work approaches the case studies of two companies engaged as mobilizing agents, focused on one of the basic principles of improvement of the city, main focus of this work: urban mobility, with the common ground on data update from a collaborative system, collective intelligence and big data. In order to investigate how and to what extent the collective power is applied in smart cities, acting both a collector of urban data and a agent of change, it was necessary, in short, to understand the functioning of the smart city; to detect how the constitution of communities takes place; the influence of ICT on the development of the city; to analyze how people engage, from the participatory culture and the formation of communities in the applications; in conclusion, to understand the convergence between big data and crowdsourcing in the smart city / O presente trabalho apresenta uma pesquisa de caráter bibliográfico, com reflexão crítica referente ao impacto dos processos colaborativos em rede, especificamente em aplicativos móveis, nas cidades inteligentes.

Web streaming, suas tendências: e o caso ParatyTv / Web streaming, trends: and the case of ParatyTv

Santos, Tamires Cardoso dos 12 September 2014 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-29T14:23:31Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Tamires Cardoso dos Santos.pdf: 3629585 bytes, checksum: 850d941b5fd323c9bc6a6917801fddd6 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-09-12 / Web streaming is an emerging technology that will certainly occupy an important part in the field of cyberculture. This research made a theoretical survey about this area, and an analysis of the different approaches to the field of creating, producing and distributing Web Streaming: Digital Live TV and On Demand. The main objective of this research was to map the behavior of Web Streaming; select and analyze products in these formats, questioning about current issues surrounding the topic, as well as explore, deepen, and open avenues to continue the research. The search function was to reveal which are the potential ways for users to generate their own content through digital means. Analyze content performed by users in a participatory and collaborative manner in which the receptors are not merely interpreters of pre-prepared materials and assume a role of active receivers: "interactors". The main reason for this proposal was the novelty and the few surveys conducted about it. The research has hypothesized that the hypermedia experiences will grow, not only through the entertainment area, but information and education. Web Streaming and Video Streaming will make great advancements in the fields of communication, design and content. The change should be mainly from the point of view of the productions performed by users. Will change from a relatively passive recipient to an active receiver: "interactor". The research is based on studies and theoretical foundations, existing concepts of emerging media, cyberculture, digital TV and online broadcast, which promise to be indispensable tools for studies on media issues. As a result of this research we observed that it is a rapidly developing field, and extremely changeable, but that is already a part of our daily lives, and is already generating good productions, audience, and especially user interactions, but it is also concluded the need for inclusion of the community in this new apparatus / O Web Streaming é uma tecnologia emergente que, certamente, ocupará uma parcela importante no campo da cibercultura.

Modeling Collective Decision-Making in Animal Groups

Granovskiy, Boris January 2012 (has links)
Many animal groups benefit from making decisions collectively. For example, colonies of many ant species are able to select the best possible nest to move into without every ant needing to visit each available nest site. Similarly, honey bee colonies can focus their foraging resources on the best possible food sources in their environment by sharing information with each other. In the same way, groups of human individuals are often able to make better decisions together than each individual group member can on his or her own. This phenomenon is known as "collective intelligence", or "wisdom of crowds." What unites all these examples is the fact that there is no centralized organization dictating how animal groups make their decisions. Instead, these successful decisions emerge from interactions and information transfer between individual members of the group and between individuals and their environment. In this thesis, I apply mathematical modeling techniques in order to better understand how groups of social animals make important decisions in situations where no single individual has complete information. This thesis consists of five papers, in which I collaborate with biologists and sociologists to simulate the results of their experiments on group decision-making in animals. The goal of the modeling process is to better understand the underlying mechanisms of interaction that allow animal groups to make accurate decisions that are vital to their survival. Mathematical models also allow us to make predictions about collective decisions made by animal groups that have not yet been studied experimentally or that cannot be easily studied. The combination of mathematical modeling and experimentation gives us a better insight into the benefits and drawbacks of collective decision making, and into the variety of mechanisms that are responsible for collective intelligence in animals. The models that I use in the thesis include differential equation models, agent-based models, stochastic models, and spatially explicit models. The biological systems studied included foraging honey bee colonies, house-hunting ants, and humans answering trivia questions.

Backemar, Viktor January 2008 (has links)
Abstract Title: The New Type of Music Industry at AllEars.se (Den nya musikbranschen på AllEars.se) Number of pages: 49 (53 including enclosures) Author: Viktor Backemar Tutor: Else Nygren Course: Media och Communication Studies C Period: Fall 2007 University: Division of Media and Communication, Department of Information Science, Uppsala University. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to compare AllEars´ own view of the website AllEars.se to an observed view of the same site. The comparison is based on theories regarding the Internet in today’s society, convergence, communities and collective intelligence, interactivity and participation, and business in today’s society. Method: Since the paper has a purpose to compare two views of the same website there are two main methods in use. AllEars´ own view has been created via an interview with the company’s CEO, a press release that was released in connection with the launch of the website and texts found on the website. The other view is based on an observation of the website, preformed in November 2007. Main results: The views are different from each other seeing that AllEars´ own view is more positive than the observed view. The biggest and most crucial difference between the two views where found in the relationship between the producers and the users, in terms of who has got the actual power on the website. The users aren’t the ones who has got the actual power, instead the producers has the power and controls the activity on the website with predesigned rules and limitations. However there are some similarities between the two views: The website has a strong connection to the offline world, a good possibility for the users to interact with each other, and the fact that AllEars.se represents something new in the music industry. Keywords: AllEars.se, music industry, Internet, convergence, communities, collective intelligence, interactivity, participation, SonyBMG, TV4.

Applying Tag Recommendation base on Document Similarity in Question and Answer Website

Tsao, Pin Yeh Unknown Date (has links)
With User's behavior change. User access to new knowledge from the internet instead of from the traditional media. This Change leads to a lot new behavior. Social tagging is popular in recent years through a user tag to classify and annotate information. Unlike traditional taxonomy requiring items are classified into predefined categories, Social tagging is more elastic to adjust through the content change. Q & A Website is the rise in recent years. Like Quora , Stack Overflow , yahoo Knowledge plus. User can interact with other people form this platform , in Q & A discussion, with People's experience and expertise to help the user find a satisfactory answer. This study hopes to build a tag recommendation system for Q & A Website. The recommendation system can help people find the right problem efficiently , and let Q & A platform can put these numerous problems into the right place. We collect 20,638 questions from Stack Exchange. Use naïve Bayes algorithm and document similarity calculation to recommend tag for the new document. The result of the evaluation show we can effectively recommend relevant tags for the new question.

Borges, Natalia Marroni January 2015 (has links)
This research aims to understand how the use of mobile technologies can be exploited to gain agility in the capture and transfer of weak signals in the organizational environment. When weak signals are analysed singly, they are uncertain and imprecise. However, when systematically analyzed, they contain relevant strategic potential for organizations. The increasing use of mobile technologies and wireless, that permeates the reality of organizations, allows greater flexibility for companies, on the prospects of access to information, communication and time. By performing multiple case studies, with 10 respondents which work in different functions and different organizations, we seek to relate these agility prospects arising from the adoption of mobile technologies in organizations - raised through literature review - to the stages of capture and transfer of weak signals, adopted in Strategic, Anticipative and Collective Intelligence. Regarding the capture of weak signals, is meant that the volume of information exchanged and the availability of this information (both resulting from TIMS) may increase the chance of identifying a weak signal in the three perspectives analyzed. However, this perception of weak signals is also linked to the characteristics of each professional, who should take a proactive and attentive attitude towards perceive and interpret this information. Regarding the transfer stage of weak signals information, is observed that the gain agility through the use of TIMS can be exploited, given that the reduction of geographical barriers allows gains over time, related to communication and access to information.

No. of bitstreams: 1 arquivototal.pdf: 1725904 bytes, checksum: 56d468409d4437f6235f078b0a906307 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2014-07-03 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The performance and consolidation of Google has been seen as a communication phenomenon of large proportions, achieving a hegemony over other systems of Internet searches, expanding, increasingly, to other markets with a clear domain and control of the processes of information. It is from this focus that the present study aims to examine these dynamics of expansion, control and mastery of information by the company. The acquisition of other companies by Google makes possible the establishment of its hegemony, threatening the liberty and privacy of network user. The main purpose of our research is the investigation of Google‟s actions, their possible implications for the network society and also the risks that their strategies could cause into the collective intelligence. From an exploratory research, we conducted a case study using Google‟s actions as the center of our observations, samples and analysis. This study allowed to identify the need that users have of creating mechanisms of resistance to manipulation and control of information, and indicate three types of opposition to the domination of Google on the Internet.
