Dark tetrad personality types and sexual behaviours amongst African students

Baloyi, Valeria January 2019 (has links)
Thesis (Ph. D. (Psychology)) -- University of Limpopo, 2019 / The present study investigated the gender moderated relationship between the dark tetrad personality types and sexual behaviours among African university students. Two studies were conducted using conveniently selected samples from two universities in Limpopo, South Africa. Both studies were quantitative in nature using a cross-sectional research design. An integrative theoretical approach was utilized in the conceptualization of the studies, and data was analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM). The first study (N = 261) determined the relationship between the dark tetrad personality types and sexual behaviours conceptualized as infidelity, sexual aggression, and sociosexuality. It was only sadism that had the capacity to predict infidelity and SOI-R desire. Regarding moderation, the results showed that gender only moderates the associations between Machiavellianism and SOI-R behaviour, psychopathy and SOI-R attitude, and sadism and infidelity. The second study (N = 275) examined if the relationship between the Dark Tetrad personality types and socio-sexuality would be mediated by adversarial sexual beliefs (ASB) and ambivalent sexism (benevolent [BS] and hostile sexism [HS]). Results showed that the relationship between sadism and SOI-R behaviour and desire, Machiavellianism and SOI-R behaviour and desire were fully mediated by BS, and the association between sadism and all the SOI-R components, Machiavellianism and all the SOI-R components, and psychopathy and all the SOI-R components were fully mediated ASB. Additionally, gender only moderated the ASB mediated associations between sadism and SOI-R behaviour, and sadism and SOI-R attitude. Ultimately, the study advances recommendations for future studies. / NRF ( National Research Foundation)

Infidelity and Identity: Cheating, Children, and the Church

Hunniecutt, Jeni R 01 May 2013 (has links) (PDF)
When children grow up in a Christian home they learn fidelity is essential in a relationship. The inconsistency of biblical messages and parental infidelity is identity altering for children. In this study I use autoethnography to explore how my parents’ infidelity collided with religious teachings to shape my identity and influence my interpersonal relationships. I also use narrative interviewing to identity the ways my siblings were affected by the same experience and how such discrepancies in our home influenced their identities. The theory of narrative inheritance (Goodall, 2005) serves to be a source of empowerment as well as a contributing factor to definitions of infidelity. Familial roles are illuminated as I explore how my siblings and I negotiated cognitive dissonance that resulted from the conflicting narratives of Christianity and parental infidelity.

Chastity among adult Seventh-Day Adventists in Botswana: a psycho-spiritual study

Orapeleng, Galenakgosi 31 March 2008 (has links)
Extra-marital affairs seem to be rampant among Seventh-day Adventist adult membership in Botswana. To determine the extent of the problem, to investigate the causative factors and to suggest ways in which individuals and families can be helped, has been the motivation for this study. It was discovered that 11.8% of married adults in the survey had at least one secret sexual partner, and 42.6% of singles had an illegal sexual partner(s). Seventh-day Adventist adults' sexuality in Botswana is characterized by hetero-sexual, multiple partners. Some of the contributing factors are economic, cultural and spiritual. Despite the prevailing influences, the majority of the adults (68%) still disagree with lax sexual behavior. This gives hope to work for their restoration and empowerment. Two key areas that were seen to be critical in empowering them were the family and spirituality. A psycho-spiritual program called, Harmonious Development, is being suggested for a systematic, educational, holistic and lifelong empowerment. This model is based on the psycho-educational theory developed by W.J. Schoeman for adult training. / SCH: HUM, SOC SCIENC & THEO / DTH (SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Antonio Silveira Marques.pdf: 1334501 bytes, checksum: 1a24eb64df639e6d58c52c0740c0fa1a (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-09-25 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / The present work addresses the subject of the Constitutional Jurisdiction and People s Sovereignty and examines the apparent incompatibility between judicial review, namely review made by the Supreme Court in its current form, and the principle of the people s sovereignty, stressing the process of judicialization of politics . The author initially seeks to reconstruct the history of constitutionalism and judicial review in the 20th century, starting with the discussions of Hans Kelsen and Carl Schmitt about who had legitimacy to be the guardian of the German Reich s Constitution and examining the core points of these two thinkers. The second chapter reviews the discussions and conclusions of the first chapter and then begins a dialogue with the thoughts of contemporary authors such as Jürgen Habermas and Ronald Dworkin. These authors examined the growth of judicial functions, especially after Second World War, reaching conclusions on the necessity of imposing limits to judicial review in its current form. In the third and final chapter this question is addressed by examining the paradigmatic decision of the Brazilian Supreme Court concerning political party fidelity that created a new constitutional precedent by establishing a punitive norm an action not explicit in Article 55 of the Brazilian Constitution applicable to those considered unfaithful to their political parties. This research examines the limits of Brazilian rule of law, discussing the consequences of the unprecedented increase in judicial functions, especially by the Supreme Federal Tribunal, and the necessity of harmonizing governmental power in Brazil specifically, how to reconcile the current trend towards a stronger judiciary with the principle of the people s sovereignty, especially when laws pass through the control of the judiciary branch / Trata-se de pesquisa sobre o tema Jurisdição Constitucional e Soberania do Povo .

Analýza genderových vztahů a konceptu romantické lásky v románu Milana Kundery Nesnesitelná lehkost bytí / The Analysis of Gender Relations and the Concept of Romantic Love in the Novel of Milan Kundera The Unbearable Lightness of Being

Kubová, Alena January 2016 (has links)
The diploma thesis discusses gender relationships, construction of romantic love, and questions of infidelity in the novel Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera. These concepts are examined by means of feminist literary theories that deal with gender as an analytic category and that draw on resistant reading and reader response criticism as major theoretical and methodological points of analysis. The first analytical part focuses on the ways in which femininity and masculinity of the main characters are constructed within the context of patriarchal society under socialism. The second part of the analysis is devoted to various forms of love that appear among the characters. It investigates the role of these love schemes within the presented relationships and focuses on motives of infidelity while considering the gender identity of the characters. By employing gender analysis, this diploma thesis offers a new perspective that reflects on the reproduction of gender stereotypes and departs from existing interpretations of Kundera's major novel.

Renegotiating identity : re-authoring narratives post infidelity and divorce

Day, Penelope Joy 30 November 2007 (has links)
This qualitatively oriented Practical Theology research journey, informed by postmodernism and social constructionism, was based on a narrative enquiry into the healing and renegotiation of identity of five "faithful spouses" post infidelity and divorce. These conversations occurred within a small group context, where narratives were spoken and witnessed (pastoral therapeutic gatherings), and were aimed at enabling the participants to remember and re-author preferred identities and new ways of being. This dissertation attempts to bring together the narratives of the participants, the literature, narrative therapy and pastoral care. My research curiosity was prompted by my mother's experience of divorce, and by the myriad number of conversations I have had with both "infidels" and "faithful spouses" in my pastoral practice. This research journey examines the process of co-creating, along with my fellow travellers (research participants), a viable model of divorce recovery in the face of infidelity and divorce. / Practical Theology / M.Th. A study of sexuality following traumatic brain injury : moving towards the validation of a biopsychosocial model

Moreno, Jhon A. 03 1900 (has links)
The study of sexuality in the context of neurological disorders is an emerging area leading us to better understand the brain and neurobehavioral correlates of various aspects of sexuality. Changes in sexuality are common following neurological disorders, such as spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, stroke, epilepsy, and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Given the complexity of sexuality after TBI, it needs to be analyzed from a biopsychosocial perspective that includes three interrelated factors: a) neuropsychological and psychological factors, b) medical and physical variables, and c) relationship factors. The objective of this thesis was to study certain aspects of sexuality in individuals with TBI to provide empirical evidence to contribute to the validation of a biopsychosocial perspective of sexuality after TBI. Three original quantitative studies were conducted in individuals with mild, moderate, and severe TBI who received post-TBI rehabilitation services and in a group of healthy controls living in the community. The groups were comparable in age, sex, years of education, work and relationship status, and annual income. The variables targeting sexuality included in this thesis were sexual quality of life, risky sexual behavior, and sociosexuality (e.g., individual differences regarding the willingness to engage in uncommitted sexual relationships). Neuropsychological and psychological variables included executive function, depression and anxiety. Medical and physical aspects encompassed postconcussion symptoms. Relationship factors involved attitudes toward infidelity. The results demonstrate that compared to healthy controls, individuals with TBI showed lower sexual quality of life, while the groups were comparable in risky sexual behavior, sociosexuality, and attitudes toward infidelity. Furthermore, the results showed differences between men and women regarding sociosexuality (e.g., more restrictive in women). In individuals with TBI, lower sexual quality of life was significantly associated with the presence of post concussion symptoms; an increase in risky sexual behavior correlated with greater frequency of dysexecutive symptoms, and lower acceptance of infidelity was linked to a less restricted sociosexuality. The results of these three studies support a biopsychosocial perspective of sexuality following TBI. They provide new knowledge in the areas of sexuality that may be affected after a TBI, as well as some neuropsychological and psychological, medical and physical, and relational variables associated with these changes. The theoretical implications, as well as those related to clinical practice and rehabilitation are discussed. The limitations of the studies are presented and recommendations for research are proposed. The biopsychosocial model can be used as a reference to guide future research in this area. Other studies about sexuality and the development of multidisciplinary interventions in this area for individuals with TBI are warranted.

The concept of autonomy in the private law contracts : Technical and philosophical aspects

Guyet, Guillaume 03 October 2012 (has links)
We became used to adopt some concept of autonomy a perception which is the one of a decline, largely predicted from the XIXth century at the critical authors of the contract. All arguments contributed to this interpretation and many things seem to go this way. Actually, the concept uncovers a classical upheavel of distinctions whiches verifiable from the point of view of sources or authorities defining langage (legislative, judicial autonomy). In fact, the first autonomy of subjective nature was not as contradicted as it was supposed to. The individual or collective autonomy continues to define the legal person according to a more or less narrow tenure of its rights, liberties, capacities or powers. As a matter of fact it contributes to focus on an essential frame and persists in a kind of moral control of the wills and of the individual identities confronted to excessively objective mechanisms. A similar resurgence of the ancient roman law vocabulary, under the pretext of contractual balance, paradoxically allows a destabilization between the parts. So it is to the renewed autonomy strong on new requirements that we appeal. A moral plan succeeds the theoretical plan under the perspective of the protection of the wills. The autonomy adapts itself while remaining in compliance with an original subjective sense. She could become a reference of regulation, including for the international contracts. French law would then have an opportunity to recover, at least from the point of view of the interpretation.
