Stöld på arbetsplatsen. En kvantitativ studie av stöld som begås av anställda utifrån Situationella handlingsteorin

Grundberg, Clara, Ahlström, Fanny January 2015 (has links)
The present study examines theft committed by employees from a criminological theory, which integrates individual and contextual factors – Situational Action Theory. The purpose of this study is to test whether this theory is an appropriate model of explanation for theft committed by employees of the Swedish café and restaurant industry as well as retail and wholesale trade. The study also intends to examine whether individuals differ in their propensity to steal in, compared to outside of, their workplace. The study is based on primary data acquired with an online questionnaire, distributed on the social network Facebook. The material was analyzed statistically and the main results showed that individual's propensity, in the form of morality and self-control, and motivation in the form of temptations, can be confirmed as important predictors of theft committed by employees. With the foundation of the overall results the conclusion is that the Situational Action Theory could be considered a suitable model of explanation for theft in the workplace.

The Moral Reasoning And Moral Decision Making Of Urban High-poverty Elementary School Principals In A Large Urban Southeastern School District

Strenth, Robert 01 January 2013 (has links)
The focus of this research was to identify the moral reasoning and moral judgment of elementary school principals who serve in high-poverty schools. The study was undertaken at the request of the client public school district who was attempting to identify characteristics of current elementary principals serving in high-poverty schools. Two research questions guided this study concerning the moral operational level of the principals. The theoretical framework of the study was based on the work of Lawrence Kohlberg and his stages of moral development. Participating principals were administered the Defining Issues Test-2 (DIT-2), a pencil-paper questionnaire that presented five moral dilemmas and a series of statements asking for the participant to rank solutions to the dilemmas. The results indicated that the majority of participants operated from lower levels of moral development, reasoning, and judgment. Participants’ scores were matched with their schools’ performance grades. There was not an indication that high moral scores and high school performance were linked. This study confirmed the results of an early study conducted by Vitton and Wasonga (2009) and encourages a deeper examination of the results of accountability and principal decision making.

Moral Formation in the Letter of James: A Way Forward for the Structural analysis in Light of a Systemic Functional Genre Theory

Kim, Ji Hoe 11 1900 (has links)
This dissertation attempts to answer two questions. First, what is the social function of the letter of James? Second, how does James design the structure of the text to align with its communicative goal? This study presumes the letter of James as a member of ancient wisdom literature. Contrary to common (mis)understandings, ancient wisdom literature shows a general tendency in its composition. A legitimate sage collects and evokes old sayings and proverbs. Then, the wisdom is reinterpreted and contemporized for the current situation. Through this process, the sage helps his readers develop a sense of right and wrong, develop moral reasoning skills, and cultivate virtues. I will argue that this pattern, moral formation, is present in the unfolding of James’s letter to his diasporic readers. Regarding the structure of the letter of James, after Dibelius, many attempts have been made to present the letter as a cohesive text with a literary structure, which is unified by a single global theme. In this framework, most of what have been proposed as a structure of the letter is more or less topic (or theme)-based. Unfortunately, however, neither a rigorous definition of topic nor a method for determining it has been clearly stated. The limits of the topic-based approach become problematic when applied to the structure of James whereby diverse topics are scattered here and there throughout the text. Attempts to draw intricate lines between these units through topical or thematic similarities make the structure of James very complicated (e.g., inclusio or chiasm). This study attempts to break this methodological impasse by employing Ruqaiya Hasan’s genre theory developed in a systemic functional framework. James’s letter is delimited in terms of function, not topic or theme. In search for the function of each segment, I explore textual (semantic chain and cohesive harmony), ideational (transitivity, verbal aspect, and voice), and interpersonal meanings (grammatical person and speech functions).

THE ROLE OF MORALITY, SELF-CONTROL, AND ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURE, ON OFFLINE- AND ONLINE AGGRESSIVE CRIMINOGENIC BEHAVIOUR: : A QUANTITATIVE STUDY ON SITUATIONAL ACTION THEORY AND ITS APPLICABILITY IN DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTAL CONTEXTS

Riekwel, Annika January 2023 (has links)
According to Wikstörm’s (2012) Situational Action Theory (SAT), engaging incriminogenic behaviour is influenced by a person’s crime propensity, such as self-control and morality. Moral rules applied to a setting, and their degree ofenforcement, are stated as crucial since individuals are in constant interaction withtheir surroundings. Criminogenic exposure, such as having criminal friends and thetime spent with friends, is according to SAT (ibid.) influential on criminogenicbehaviour. The purpose of this study was, through hypothesis testing, to investigatethe applicability of SAT based on different environmental contexts. Aggressivecriminogenic behaviour was measured through bullying. Offline- andcyberbullying corresponded to aggressive criminogenic behaviour in differentenvironmental contexts. This study found that morality, self-control, andcriminogenic exposure, were significant in relation to offline bullying. Self-controland having criminal friends were significant in relation to cyberbullying. Genderwas used as a confounding variable and showed that girls are more prone tocyberbullying than boys, and that boys were more prone to offline bullying thangirls. Testing SAT applicability by comparing online and offline criminogenicbehaviour is understudied, further research on other online criminogenic behavioursis therefore encouraged, as well as the relationship between gender and anonymityas well as their influence in SAT.

[pt] A MORALIDADE CONSTITUCIONAL DA COMUNIDADE E AS CONSTITUIÇÕES COMO ÁRVORES VIVAS: UMA ANÁLISE DA PROPOSTA TEÓRICO-INTERPRETATIVA DE WIL WALUCHOW / [en] THE COMMUNITY CONSTITUTIONAL MORALITY AND THE CONSTITUTIONS AS LIVING TREES: AN ANALYSIS OF WIL WALUCHOW S INTERPRETATIVE THEORETICAL PROPOSAL

LUANA CASTELLANE SILVA 20 September 2023 (has links)
[en] In his work A Common Law Theory of Judicial Review: The Living Tree, Wil Waluchow presents an alternative conception for charters of law and for judicial review in the context of constitutional review. The author aims to demonstrate the advantages and democratic legitimacy of adopting written constitutional letters and judges as capable agents to find what he calls the community s constitutional morality. For this, Waluchow proposes the concept that the charters merge fixed and flexible points, in order to be able to provide the necessary legal certainty on certain rights to individuals while promoting certain flexibility on how and in which cases rights should be recognized and weighted. Waluchow s analysis turns to rights that, as a rule, are prescribed in open language that demands the measurement of their incidence, through informed official choice in the face of concrete cases. This feature is due to the relevant influence of morals on the aforementioned rights, as their interpretation changes and evolves while the same occurs in social morality. To build his foundation, Waluchow proposes to present and answer the objections that, according to him, have greater argumentative force, with its greatest exponent being Jeremy Waldron. In this sense, the present work turns to present the model proposed by Waluchow to be adopted in constitutional democracies and then exposes the analysis of other authors about his work. From this, the practical feasibility of its proposal is critically evaluated, the points to be maintained, and those that must be reformed or better substantiated by the author in his contribution to the legal debate to interpret the constitutional rule.
