Coupling Through Projective Identification: Bridging Role Of Projective Identification In The Associations Among Early Parenting Experience, Personality Constructs And Couple RelationshipGoral Alkan, F. Sevinc 01 July 2010 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis aimed to examine the process of projective identification in the couple relationship by focusing on two areas of investigation: Firstly, how projective identification operates &ldquo / within&rdquo / an individual regarding the associations among early parenting experiences, personality and couple relationship / secondly how projective identification operates between two partners in the couple relationship regarding partners&rsquo / similarities and complementarities have been focused.
Initially, several multiple regressions were run to examine the relationships among the parenting, personality and couple relationship. Afterwards, several intra-class partial pairwise correlatons were conducted to reveal similarities and
complementarities of the partners regarding their early maladaptive parenting experiences, personality constructs and couple relationship variables. Paulson Daily Living Inventory, Separation-Individuation Inventory and Splitting Scale were translated into Turkish and psychometric studies were conducted. For the main study, 356 participants (178 male and 178 female), who are cohabiting partners to each other, were achieved through snowball sampling method. Early
maladaptive parenting experiences of the participants were examined by Young Parenting Inventory. Personality constructs contained &ldquo / separation individuation process&rdquo / and &ldquo / splitting defense&rdquo / as the theoretical correlates of projective identification, and &ldquo / early maladaptive schemas&rdquo / of the individuals. Couple relationship variables were &ldquo / relationship satisfaction&rdquo / , &ldquo / emotional dependency&rdquo / and &ldquo / jealousy&rdquo / . Findings of the study revealed that projective identification has bidirectional relatedness with the personality and couple relationship of the individual. Multiple regression analyses showed theoretically consistent associations among an individual&rsquo / s parenting experiences, personality and couple
relationship. Intra-class partial pairwise correlations showed similarities and complementarities between two partners. Findings were discussed in the light of relevant literature.

The use of Masekitlana as a therapeutic technique for children affected by HIV/AIDSJohn, Sally Ann 16 May 2013 (has links)
This study is an investigation into the use of an African indigenous narrative game, Masekitlana, which I used as a therapeutic medium for four children, aged eight to 12 years. The participants are of Zulu origin and culture and were affected and orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDS. The game involved the participants in activities, such as hitting stones together or arranging them at will, that they felt familiar with and that enabled freer verbal expression from them. I employed a single-system research design that consisted of mixed methods approaches in the form of a qualitative thematic analysis and a quantitative graphic presentation of the results. The research design was a time series design that involved using, at four different times along the process of therapy, the measure of the Roberts-2 test (ethnic version). Therapy consisted of three sessions of standard of care therapy (therapy that was routinely being used in the psychology clinic) and three intervention therapy sessions of Masekitlana. I found the mixed-methods approach to be a practice-friendly form of research as it helped to describe the concerns of the participants in depth and enabled a concrete, quantitative conclusion about the efficacy of Masekitlana as an intervention. Syncretism of both approaches meant that qualitative data helped to clarify and confirm the findings of quantitative data and vice versa. Qualitative analysis showed how Masekitlana helped participants to express their traditional African beliefs, such as belief in the guidance of their ancestors, in the influence of bewitchment in their lives, and in the animation of the natural world. Thematic analysis also revealed the anger that participants felt resulting from the sense of disempowerment they experienced in Children’s Homes and from their separation from their biological families, and their need to sublimate this anger into future careers in the police force or alternatively to resort to crime. Thematic analysis also revealed the strategies employed by participants for coping with peer conflict in the Children’s Homes, and the challenges they face with schooling difficulties. Quantitative analysis revealed how participants progressed to complex forms of adaptive functioning and explanation of situations in their lives as a result of Masekitlana therapy. Recommendations arising out of this study are that psychologists strive to use forms of therapy that are familiar to the cultural backgrounds of indigenous children, and that training psychologists learn about the cultural beliefs of their patients and be exposed to the rituals used in traditional environments in order to understand indigenous clients. Psychologists should also be aware of the fact that, with the effects of television on children, and with present globalization and ease of international travel, children of African origin and culture are a mixture of traditional African and modern Western values. Therefore an integration of Western and indigenous forms of psychology might be considered. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Educational Psychology / unrestricted

This work is about unilateral treatment abortions by the patient, occurring without preliminary discussion with the therapist. For the first time, such a research is based upon testimonies from patients collected during clinical interviews with their informed consent. Theoretically, the study relies on an original informational approach of the psyche as an organ which models the outside world by the psychical reality, approach inspired by an historical survey of projection and projective identification psychoanalytical concepts evolutions. For the entire study sample, unilateral treatment abortion by the patient always derives from loss of confidence in the therapist caused by the attribution to him or her of a disqualifying feature through object transference or projective identification channel, with a remarkably strong, unwavering and long-lasting conviction that the disqualifying feature truly belongs to the therapist. At the end of the study, it appears that the persons who have had relational traumatic experiences during childhood (breaks in the continuity of relations with parental environment) would be particularly prone to unilateral treatment abortions during a psychoanalysis or a psychotherapy. Consequently, the study proposes preventive and curatives measures of metacommunication in order to reduce risk of treatment abortion. The conclusions of this study would require further wider research, involving particularly a control population of patients who never experimented unilateral treatment abortion during their psychoanalysis/psychotherapy, in order to more clearly identify the specificities of the patients who provoke such treatment abortions and the exact nature of the relational trauma which they may have experimented during childhood.

[pt] O SOFRIMENTO PSÍQUICO DA EQUIPE DE SAÚDE DE UTI NEONATAL / [en] PSYCHOLOGICAL SUFFERING OF THE NEONATAL ICU HEALTH TEAMPALOMA LOUZADA BODANESE 22 June 2020 (has links)
[en] In Neonatal ICU, premature, syndromic or malformed babies are hospitalized and there is always a risk to life. Faced with the vulnerabilities of their babies and precipitated in a hostile environment where there is too much noise, light and stimulation, parents often feel distressed, sad and angry. With unsettled psychological resources and impaired thinking ability, parents can use primitive mechanisms, such as projective identification (Klein, 1946/1991a), to defend themselves. Neonatal ICU health staff, in addition to receiving parental projections, needs to address the constant threat of infant death. Due to these circumstances, we believe that the environment of the Neonatal ICU would be potentially traumatic, including for the health staff. The present work intends, based on our experience in Neonatal ICU, to address the psychological suffering to which the health team is subjected. Because of their specific work, health staff members can experience emotional burnout. We intend to discuss how the health staff, in order to face the suffering of parents and hospitalized babies, needs to receive holding (Winnicott, 1975) and containment (Bion, 1962) by the health institution. We believe that conversation groups have an important anti-traumatic function to maintain the health team s ability to think so that they can continue to perform their activities creatively.

[en] BORDERLINE CONDITIONS AND SOME OF THEIR CLINICAL CHALLENGES / [pt] OS ESTADOS-LIMITE E ALGUNS DE SEUS DESAFIOS CLÍNICOS02 July 2004 (has links)
obstante, a
limite e algumas
Finalmente,
outros termos, tais
como casos-limite, ou distúrbios limítrofes, possam
sugerir. Enquanto que
estes últimos possuem conotações marcantemente patológicas,
pertencendo,
portanto a uma clínica psicanalítica específica, o termo
estados-limite permite
neurose. / [en] Borderline conditions have been part of psychoanalytical
literature since
the early stages of psychoanalysis. However, since the
second half of the last
century, interest in this subject has grown considerably
and there has been a
steady increase in the number of articles and essays
published. Nevertheless,
polemic around this theme seems also to grow in the same
proportion. This work
covers a brief history of the term borderline and some of
the controversies in the
different psychoanalytical environments, principally as to
the relationship
between the borderline treatment and that of narcissistic
personalities. Issues
regarding the constitution of subjectivity and its
incidence in the borderline
therapy are also dealt with. Finally, some forms of
borderline pathology and
important clinical aspects, such as transference and
counter transference
implications, are reviewed. The preference for the term
borderline conditions
aims to broaden the scope that other terms, such as
borderline cases or
borderline disturbances may suggest. While these latter
possess strong
pathological connotations, belonging, therefore, to a
specific psychoanalytical
treatment, the term borderline conditions allows for the
designation of situations
with similar characteristics, although episodic and liable
to occur in any type of
psychoanalytical treatment, including the neurotic.

The experience of organisational development consultants working in the systems psychodynamic stanceMyburg, Hester Susanna 11 1900 (has links)
When working from the systems psychodynamic stance, consultants experience that they become part of the group dynamics through projection, projective identification, transference and counter-transference. This research was undertaken to explore the impact on consultants doing systems psychodynamic consultation in their own formal system within a large financial institution in South Africa. Findings were that primary (race, gender and age), and secondary (social identity, language and skills, or level of expertise in this consulting stance) diversity factors strongly impact on them. Consultants play a strong containment role. Consultants experienced the effect at all levels of their lives, including intellectual (struggling to function and think clearly), physical (insomnia, eating disorders, usual exercise not helping), emotional (crying and anger) and social (their work not being understood by friends and family, growing apart from loved ones). For all of them the positive spin-off was the personal growth on the journey that they embarked on. / Industrial and Organisational Psychology / M. Comm. (Industrial and Organisational Psychology)
