[en] STARTING FROM THE BEGINNING / [pt] COMEÇANDO DO PRINCÍPIORENATA MARIA CANTANHEDE AMARANTE 23 September 2003 (has links)
[en] Leads are fundamental elements of the news story. This
study follows an interdisciplinary approach, analyzing the
lead through journalistic definitions and linguistic
descriptions. The corpus was composed of 200 leads in
English and Portuguese, collected from two American
newspapers and two Brazilian newspapers, in two different
periods: 12 to 14 September, 2001, and 29 and 30
November, 2001. Using genre analysis theory, leads are
defined, in this dissertation, as a subgenre of the news
story genre (Biber, 1988, Swales, 1990). Also it is
possible to view the lead in analogy to Halliday`s (1985)
concept of Theme. Finally, this research paper presents a
tentative classification of the leads according to their
structure and function, dividing them in four categories:
objective, effect phrase, contextualized and intergenre.
Statistic tests were applied to the corpus to investigate
the variation regarding language, section, newspaper and
period. Results point to majority of objective leads,
especially in Portuguese. American leads present a
variation related to the period of production, intergenre
leads being the most frequent during the post-September 11
period. Comparative analysis of American and Brazilian
leads shows that leads vary according to the section to
which they are written. There is predominance of objective
leads in the Business section, while Sports and Culture
present more variety. There were also differences between
Portuguese and English leads regarding the length of the
leads.

[en] GONZO AND ITS NEW VERSIONS: REFLECTIONS ON OBJECTIVITY IN COMTEMPORARY JOURNALISM / [pt] O GONZO E SUAS RELEITURAS: REFLEXÕES SOBRE A OBJETIVIDADE NO JORNALISMO CONTEMPORÂNEOCAROLINA AGUIAR MASSOTE 16 January 2015 (has links)
[en] This study proposes a reflection on journalistic objectivity, a rather dear concept to the professionals of that field, but which has been triggering several questions over the years. Our object of study is Gonzo journalism, a style started in the United States in the 1960 s after many changes within the paradigm of objectivity, not only in journalism, but also in other fields. The purpose of this study is to analyze supposedly gonzo articles written by a Brazilian journalist in a currently published magazine, in order to understand how the gonzo legacy can be reinterpreted and reshaped.

[en] GLOBAL AND DIGITAL: DILEMMAS AND CHALLENGES FOR LOCAL JOURNALISM / [pt] GLOBAL E DIGITAL: DILEMAS E DESAFIOS PARA O JORNALISMO LOCALNATANAEL D DE FIGUEIREDO NETO 15 April 2021 (has links)
[en] Today media players are facing difficulties and challenges - especially those dedicated to local journalism. The response goes through investing on digital tools and platforms, as well as digital technologies, to engage the audience. The creation of the Hyperlocal desk in Infoglobo s newspapers in 2017 is an example. This dissertation proposes a reflection in conceptual terms on the effectiveness of this strategy. It analyzes the reports produced by that new desk team. Starting from a bibliographic review, this study aims to define the concepts of local journalism and hyperlocal journalism. Then seeks for points of contact and differences between these concepts, facing them up to the work done by Infoglobo newspapers. Finally, this work focuses on the dilemmas and challenges faced by local journalism in a world interconnected by technology.

[en] IMAGINARIES OF FEAR: JOURNALISM AND URBAN VIOLENCE / [pt] IMAGINÁRIOS DO MEDO: IMPRENSA E VIOLÊNCIA URBANAFELIPE DE OLIVEIRA BOTELHO CORREA 05 June 2008 (has links)
[pt] Imaginários do medo: imprensa e violência urbana analisa
urbano.
do aparelho repressor do Estado simplifica a complexidade
ordem social, política, econômica e cultural no Brasil
contemporâneo. / [en] Imaginaries of fear: journalism and urban violence analyzes
a series of stories on violent crimes published between
2004 and 2007 on newspapers of Rio de Janeiro and São
Paulo, relating them to the production of an urban
imaginary. It intends to show how the stories published on
these periodicals contribute to the making of a
contemporary imaginary of fear through urban violence
narration. This dissertation examines the types of
enunciation and evocation of fear in the series of stories
published on O Globo - 24 horas; Geografia da violência; A
guerra do Rio - and Folha de S. Paulo - Guerra urbana. Two
perspectives used by journalists are analyzed: one that
sees violence as part of the everyday life, and the other
one in which urban violence is approached as a war metaphor.
On these perspectives, the stories that focus on violent
crimes in big cities produce a symbology and a vocabulary
that constitute an urban imaginary of fear that affects the
democratization practices of public space. Moreover, the
emphasis on the issues related to the enforcement of the
law by the police seems to simplify all the complexity that
involves the idea of public security. That said, this fear`s
imaginary - that is, the circulation of stories that have
crime as main theme - is related to other issues, and leads
to very important social, political, economic and
cultural matters in contemporary Brazil.

[pt] Como o jornalismo contemporâneo, herdeiro do positivismo e
americano The New York Times.
[en] How the contemporary journalism, the inheritor of positivism
and of the impartiality and objectivity ideals predominant
in the 19th century, talk about the otherness? This research
evaluates the concept of truth in the recent journalism
and the ways to narrating the Other, initiating with recent
reports of the American newspaper The New York Times.
Starting with recent news about Brazil published
in the most traditional newspaper of the United States, we
realize that in many aspects the journalism of the 21st
century approaches the 19th century journalism.
However, some recent narratives show that there are many
ways to tell about the different. In these cases, we note
that talk about the Other regarding diversity
seems to be not only a case of reporter`s good intentions,
but an ability to use the content and the form to
approaching the object too.

[en] This thesis aims to spotlight the quality of the crônicas ouvre of Portuguese
writer António Lobo Antunes, which is overshadowed by his novels output, with
the proposal of organizing it in three themes. After a close reading of the critic
fortune on crônicas genre, the thesis focuses in the crônicas that António Lobo
Antunes exercises an autobiographical writing. Following some theories and
fragments from crônicas, the thesis analyses the mission of literature and writing,
the mechanisms of memorialistic writing, the relation between biography and
literature, and some regular themes of Lobo Antunes’ oeuvre as his childhood in
Benfica, the Colonial War, specifically in Angola; and also oldness and oblivion,
the mnemonics processes tha works from heritages and pictures, the power of
literature facing death and banality.

relação: a do
[en] This dissertation looks at TV Globo`s local news program
RJTV
primeira edição, analising, in some of its segments,
spaces where it plays a
mediator part between the TV spectator and the space where
he lives. The
main hypothesis of this work is that the program observed
adopts format and
content innovations, attempting to achieve a closer
relation with its audience.
Our objective is to study the television message
considering that it is
constituted by a combination of text, sound and motion
image. We intend also
to pay attention to other relation: the one that is
established between the
receptor and the producer, which constitutes the
comunication as a process.

[en] JOÃO GOULART S OTHER HISTORIES: CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT ON BRAZIL S POLITICAL STAGE / [pt] UMAS HISTÓRIAS OUTRAS DE JOÃO GOULART: A CONSTRUÇÃO DE UM PERSONAGEM NO TEATRO DA POLÍTICA BRASILEIRAANNA LEE ROSA DE FREITAS 05 October 2007 (has links)
enigmática do ex-presidente João
pretendeu evidenciar a orientação auto-identificadora e
auto-reflexiva da mesma. A
[en] João Goulart s Other Histories: Character Development on
Brazil s Political
Stage is an essay - and as such its style is a combination
of narration, description, and
argumentative or academic prose - which chronicles the
path of Brazilian former
president João Goulart starting the 1964 coup until his
death in exile in 1976. Jango s
political setting, as well as the role he plays in it,
serves here not as a means of assessing
his historical standing, but rather as an object whose
purpose is to unveil and critically
scrutinize the discourse networks and webs elicited by the
former president s political
path. These discursive webs appear in a wide variety of
categories: there is the
storyteller s point of view as seen in the works of
filmmaker Glauber Rocha; the
anthropologist Darcy Ribeiro s memorialist take; Jango s
own epistolary writings; the
official version supported by the members of the
dictatorial regime; the documental or
journalistic disseminated by the media. Finally, in
addition to these categories is the
fictional/journalistic style adopted by the author of this
dissertation as she opts to include
an essay bearing her own signature into the corpus of her
research. Her intent at doing so:
locating and acknowledging her awareness of her stance vis
a vis the subject at hand. The
present research operates under one theoretical
assumption: that official documents and
press materials, far from being actual conclusive facts,
are mainly reactive in nature. In
other words, over the years they have lost their claim to
truth. Subscribing to these views,
this essay contends that speculation into the past is only
achievable if combined with the
ability to generate narratives, be these fictional or not.
Only imbued with self-reflexive
discourse and only within the sphere of art would one be
able to activate signs of the past
- thus rendering them not only intelligible but capable of
eliciting reflection and of
offering clues to understanding the present.

dialeto rodrigueano. Ao longo deste trabalho,
analisaremos
as principais marcas
universo. / [en] When we come across with the set of Nelson Rodrigues
workmanship, we
observe a unit that surpasses any division by genre. Before
becoming a
playwright, novelist, short story writer or chronicler,
Nelson is, above of
everything, a writer compromised to the artisan creation of
a proper language, that
we will call rodrigueano dialect. Throughout this work, we
will analyze the
main textual marks that make up this complex dialect, with
the primary aim to
prove that the artistic intentions of the author were much
more ambitious than
may appear to readers as a little initiated in your
universe.

[en] THE ROLE OF SOCIAL REPRESENTATIONS IN ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION / [pt] O PAPEL DAS REPRESENTAÇÕES SOCIAIS NA EDUCAÇÃO AMBIENTALLUCIANA MELLO RIBEIRO 10 December 2003 (has links)
Entender
como se estruturam as representações destes profissionais
contribui para pensar possíveis estratégias para a
formação
continuada, destinadas a qualificar a educação ambiental
e
o ecojornalismo. A percepção, os valores e a experiência
foram componentes significativos para desvendar o caminho
das representações. / [en] The research had the scope of identifying the environment,
education and information representations, which mobilize
the practice of educators and newspapermen and how it
occurs. We have tried to understand how such
representations are created and what relationship the
process of construction of these has with aspects of life,
as the family, the formation for work and the professional
practice. The data have been gathered by means of semi-
structured interviews, having questions in common and other
ones specific to each of the professions. As regards
interpretation the content analysis has been used.
Understanding how the representations of these
professionals are structured contributes to think possible
strategies for continued formation with the purpose of
qualifying the environmental education and ecojournalism.
The perception, values and the experience were significant
components to unveil the path of representations.
