Brunner, Svetlana 04 March 2024 (has links)

Exploring the limits of incentive compatibility and allocative efficiency in complex economic environments

Reinhardt, Markus 07 July 2014 (has links) (PDF)
In this dissertation auction formats are developed and discussed that focus on three specific economic environments. Regarding the impossibility results from mechanism design, the main task for the implementation of auction designs is to balance allocative efficiency and incentive compatibility – the main characteristics a mechanism should provide. Therefore, the dissertation investigates the limits of conceivable relaxations of allocative efficiency and incentive compatibility for complex settings such as double auctions, interdependent-valuation environments and electricity market designs. The overall aim is to carefully weigh up the advantages and disadvantages for either relaxing allocative efficiency or respectively incentive compatibility.

Modalität und Modalitätsausdrücke in althochdeutschen Bibeltexten. Eine korpusgestützte Analyse / Modality and Expressions of Modality in Old High German Bible Translations. A Corpus Based Analysis

Schönherr, Monika January 2009 (has links) (PDF)
This work addresses the problem of modality in Old High German bible texts. In historical research so far, the communicative circumstances for the appearance of expressions of modality have not been taken into account or at least not enough. Thus, the aim of this work is, to look at linguistic expressions of modality from a communicative point of view and to open up the discussion about some new issues within the field of "Modality in Old High German". The analysis takes on a discoursal stance: each form of modality is described on the background of the text as a whole und explained in each individual context. The text samples scrutinized are two bible texts from the 9th century, namely the old high german 'Tatian' (Diatesseron) and 'Otfrids Evangelienbuch' (Otfrid von Weißenburg’s Gospel Book).

Governance in new European regions: the case of Centrope

Coimbra Swiatek, Daniela 02 December 2011 (has links) (PDF)
This dissertation analyses governance in the process of the formation of new regional alliances and spaces in Europe, by studying the case of the Central European Region - Centrope, which is both a region and a political project at the border area of Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary. This research aims at illuminating the historically founded relationship between emerging territories and new socioeconomic institutionalisations through unveiling the mode of governance in Centrope. It uncovers the progress and dilemmas of the institutionalization of a new region and regional alliances. The focus is on socio-spatial transformations, bringing in conceptual clarifications to unravel, among other issues, the ways in which actor's alliances are formed and mobilized to defend and promote particular interests grounded within already established, emerging, or potential state spaces. It thus sheds light on the mode of governance and regional development being fostered by the EU in new trans-border regions, as well as on the challenges involved in implementing new spaces in the EU under the absolute rule of a specific notion of competitiveness. This enabled sketching some alternative policy recommendations. (author's abstract)

The Effects Of Early Postnatal Ethanol Intoxication On Retina Ganglion Cell Morphology And The Development Of Retino-geniculate Projections In Mice

Dursun, Ilknur 01 February 2010 (has links) (PDF)
Experimental and clinical data have documented the adverse effects of perinatal ethanol intoxication on peripheral organs and the central nervous system. There is little known, however, about potential damaging effects of perinatal ethanol on the developing visual system. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of neonatal ethanol intoxication on RGC morphology, estimate the total number of neurons in RGC layer and dorsolateral geniculate nucleus (dLGN), and on the eye-specific fiber segregation in the dLGN), in YFP and C57BL/6 mice pups. Ethanol (3 g/kg/day) was administered by intragastric intubation throughout postnatal days (PD) 3-20 or 3-10. Intubation control (IC) and untreated control (C) groups were included. Blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was measured in separate groups of pups on PD3, PD10, and PD20 at 4 different time points, 1, 1.5, 2 and 3 h after the second intubation. Numbers neurons in the RGCs and dLGN were quantified on PD10, PD20 using unbiased stereological procedures. The RGC images were taken using a confocal microscope and images were traced using Neurolucida software. On PD9, intraocular injections of cholera toxin-
