Analýza genderových archetypů v knize Women Who Run With the Wolves / Analysis of Gender Archetypes in the Book Women Who Run With the Wolves

Karasová, Teresa January 2020 (has links)
In this thesis, I focus on the gender analysis of a book called Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pincola Estes. In my opinion, this book can be used both as study material and in one's personal life since it's a interpretative essayist which is in between a scientific text and fiction. In my thesis, I expand theories of Annis Pratt, Pam Morris, and Judith Fetterley. Since Estes puts a lot of focus onto the importance of archetypes I interpret them in the theoretical part and afterward, I put my full focus onto them in the analytical part of the thesis. Estes is strongly influenced by the analytical psychology of Carl Gustav Jung, because of this I focus on the subject, about which Jung's classical texts are about and which concepts can be taken subversive. At the same time, I am trying to point out in what sense was the Estés approach similar or vice versa is different from the other authors dealing with the archetypal issue. While working on the other topics mentioned above I am working on identifying other concepts, mainly feminist based theories, which influenced the discourse of the text. The main goal of this thesis is not a literary analysis of every single story, but a critical evaluation of how the author interprets the stories and what is the meaning of each archetype. While...

The Collective Unconscious in Neil Gaiman's Fairy Tales : The Motif of the Triple Goddess through Symbols and the Manifestations of the Anima Archetype / Det kollektiva omedvetna i Neil Gaimans sagor : den tredelade gudinnan som motiv genom symboler och manifestationer av anima arketypen

Chyrko, Yana January 2024 (has links)
Many recent studies confirm that the fantasy genre is based on ancient myths. Contemporary authors of fiction create new versions of myths, often using ancient “natural” and cultural symbols. Neil Gaiman is one of these tellers of modern myth. His works offer multiple possibilities for interpretation of well-known stories, reworked in a new way and filled with new layers of significance. Using Jungian archetypes as a prism for the analysis, this essay focuses on the possibility to relate the motif of the Triple Goddess, a triad of magical or divine female figures, present in many of the Western Europe mythologies, to female characters from Neil Gaiman’s Snow, Glass, Apples and The Ocean at the End of the Lane. Through a close reading of selected passages of the text, this essay exemplifies how Neil Gaiman uses archaic symbols and the motif of the Triple Goddess to connect his audience to the collective unconscious via manifestations of the anima archetype, one of many aspects of the collective unconscious. The Ocean at the End of the Lane.

Jižanské ženství: příběh za jižanskou kráskou / Southern Womanhood: A Story Behind the Southern Belle

Petrušová, Gabriela January 2015 (has links)
The present MA thesis focuses on the development of the archetype of the Southern Belle in the selected works of American fiction, namely John Pendleton Kennedy's Swallow Barn, William Faulkner's Sanctuary and Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind. The main task is to explore how the archetype of the Southern Belle was constructed and (if) transgressed at different times in the American literary tradition from the period of antebellum South to the era of the Southern Renaissance. Since the archetype of the Southern Belle is connected with the white upper class society it will be also discussed in this respect. By comparing texts from different historical periods I want to compare the different nature of cultural and social conditions that contributed and informed the meaning and the function of the Southern Belle. Moreover, by selecting Southern woman writer and Southern male writers respectively I want to compare female and male perspective on the literary representation of the Southern Belle. The first chapter briefly addresses the development of the American South as a region with a distinct social structure and cultural values and attempts to position the figure of the Southern Belle within that socio-historical context. Chapters three, four and five introduce and analyze the archetype of the...

Archetypy v řecké mytologii / Archetypes of Greek Mythology

Domanjová, Nikola January 2011 (has links)
This work deals with characteristics of Greek mythology and tries to define a myth and to describe the differences between myths and fairy tales. It focuses on an origin and a history of myths, on gods and on heroes. My work also examines a concept of collective unconscious and archetypes, that appears in antique mythology (especially the archetype of a hero). Based on these findings, this work forms characteristic features of heroes, that are applied on the Greek heroes Odysseus and Achilles. Their life stories prove they deserve to be considered as archetypes of heroes. A survey, that deals with a concept of heroism according to contemporary young people, is also part of the work. It reflects not just the teenagers' image of a hero, but it examines their knowledge of Greek mythology, too.

Lukajic, Radana 12 March 2010 (has links)
In our paper, we suggest two planes of the examination of Marguerite Yourcenar’s major novels: on the one hand, her novels are seen as a form of a narrative indistinguishably associated with a mythic vision of the world; on the other hand, they are seen as the writing of the self, utterly defined by the concepts based on Buddhism that denounce the illusion of ‘’I’’ and substantially leave out the notion of identity. Having stated this, we endeavor to show that the autobiographical writing of the author in question becomes greatly problematized as it is being misinterpreted as a heterobiographic piece of writing. We have also tried to clear out some uncertainties about themes and narrative procedures which are the basis of generic fluctuations of Marguerite Yourcenar’s novels

Uma educação da alma: literatura e imagem arquetípica / An education of the soul: Literature and archetypal image

Atihé, Eliana Braga Aloia 03 April 2006 (has links)
This present study tries to register images of a life history articulated by images of the literature - these latter ones appropriated by the subjectivity towards an education of the soul. Being so, I launch myself, starting from my experiences as a reader, into a theoretical-analytical path based on an anthropo-literary view in which literature is understood as myth and life history, i.e., as inter and intra-subjective symbolic mediator whose semantic openness is due mostly to the presence of the archetypal image - according to James Hillman\'s denomination ( 1995, 10). The pedagogical potentials of the literature are, in this way, transmitted by the images bearing an archetypal meaning that circulates from the text towards the life of the reader, to promote the equilibrium of the polarities, through the creative elaboration of alterity represented by the unconscious, in the construction of the ego´s identity. The thematic axe\'s that organize this study are: 1) The General Archetypology, of Gilbert Durand (1997); 2) the notion of image according to the Archetypal Psychology, of James Hillman (1997b). From an hermeneutic perspective, which looks for an openness that goes from the discourse towards the existential (Paula Carvalho, 1998, 59), I get images from three classical novels, in order to understand themselves in the convergence of life with reading, even guiding me to the direction of the discovery of my own essential image or daimon - in which I recognize the objective of education. The mentioned novels were read apart from school. Nevertheless, they became specially significant in my educational process due to the dynamism proposed by the official schooling dimension - also completely necessary so that this experience with meaning could be built. So, I come back to Madame Bovary, by Gustave Flaubert, as an example of a literature that forms the heroic sensibility; to Decameron, by Giovanni Bocaccio, as an example of a literature that forms the mystic sensibility; to O morro dos ventos uivantes, by Emily Brontë, as an example of a literature that forms the dramatic sensibility.

Organized in ten chapters, the study begins with a brief introduction where a revision of the Jungian and the psychoanalytic literatures that make reference to concepts from Cognitive Linguistics is made, followed by a chapter that contains a concise historical introduction to Cognitive Linguistics where some of the assumptions of this field of research are exposed and compared to other theoretical approaches to linguistics. The third chapter introduces the concepts of Embodied Realism, embodied mind and Cognitive Unconscious, which support Cognitive Semantics ontology and epistemology and, in the fourth chapter, the Image Schemas Theory is exposed with an emphasis on its Kantian inspiration. The fifth chapter succinctly presents the Conceptual Metaphor Theory, including its integrated primary metaphor version, and some introductory aspects of the Conceptual Metonymy Theory. The following chapter introduces the Mental Spaces and the Conceptual Blending Theory. In the seventh chapter, a comparison between the Cognitive Semantics ontology and epistemology and its Jungian counterparts is made. In the eigth chapter, the equiparation made by Jean Knox (2005) between the Jungian concept of archetype and the Cognitive Linguistics concept of image schemas is analyzed. In the ninth chapter, the following Jungian concepts sign, allegory, symbol, thought, reason and phantasy are analyzed based on the theories presented in the previous chapters. Some of the conclusions of this analysis, presented in the last chapter of this thesis, are: (1) the opposition between consciousness and unconscious advocated by Jung in most of his works is not so radical: there is always an unconscious and subliminal dimension in all concepts; (2) the division between directed thinking and undirected thinking as stipulated by Jung in 1911, when his Psychology of the Unconscious was published, cannot be sustained in the face of the researches and formulations of Cognitive Linguistics; (3) Cognitive Linguistics can offer to Jungian Psychology a theoretical basis for the formulation of an embodied theory of the symbol / Este estudo tem como objetivo fazer uma releitura de alguns dos principais conceitos da Psicologia Junguiana à luz da Linguística Cognitiva, em especial, da teoria dos esquemas imagéticos, da metáfora conceitual, da metonímia conceitual e da mesclagem conceitual e apresentar a Linguística Cognitiva como um campo de estudo que pode fornecer importantes contribuições teóricas e práticas à Psicologia Junguiana.

The material studied was extracted of the book of Jo inserted in the Holy Bible. The author intends to analyze, with this essay, the suffering of a just, knowing the symptoms came from trauma; identifying the levels of mourning; recognizing the perceptions of this character about himself, his suffering, people around him and his divinity; as well as analyzing the suffering in three dimensions: physical, psychical and spiritual. Through the reading of the myth, the author intends to identify the archetypal images expressed both in speech and in Jo s actions. Using these analyses as a starting point it is also possible to notice the model of suffering of a just, his or her difficulties, pain, as well as the process of overcoming the mourning and the reintegration of his physical and spiritual health.
