Prior research has considered the sequential order of function words, after the contextual words of the text have been removed, as a stylistic indicator of authorship. This research describes an effort to enhance authorship attribution accuracy based on this same information source with alternate classifiers, alternate n-gram construction methods, and a genetically tuned configuration. The approach is original in that it is the first time that probabilistic versions of Burrows's Delta have been used. Instead of using z-scores as an input for a classifier, the z-scores were converted to probabilistic equivalents (since z-scores cannot be subtracted, added, or divided without the possibility of distorting their probabilistic meaning); this adaptation enhanced accuracy. Multiple versions of Burrows's Delta were evaluated; this includes a hybrid of the Probabilistic Burrows's Delta and the version proposed by Smith & Aldridge (2011); in this case accuracy was enhanced when individual frequent words were evaluated as indicators of style. Other novel aspects include alternate n-gram construction methods; a reconciliation process that allows texts of various lengths from different authors to be compared; and a GA selection process that determines which function (or frequent) words (see Smith & Rickards, 2008; see also Shaker, Corne, & Everson, 2007) may be used in the construction of function word n-grams.

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between author, text and user-generated modifications in the context of the computer game Civilization 4. These relationships are studied in part by analyzing how the game mechanics have been modified, and in part through analyzing the communication taking place between players of Civilization 4 in the CivFanatics online forums. The study concludes that fans as creators are increasingly leaning on each other and their self-produced accumulated body of knowledge in the generation of new and further changes to the narrative universe, and that the original creators of the game have all but faded from view. This suggests that fan creativity is not situated against or directed at particular authors (original or otherwise), but a community effort quite independent from original intent.

Este trabalho tem como fundamentação a teoria do Letramento na perspectiva de Leda Verdiani Tfouni e, também, a Análise do Discurso Pecheuxtiana. O trabalho confere-se na busca de um olhar sobre autoria e letramento nas produções orais, na Educação Infantil, a fim de refletir, teoricamente, acerca dos conceitos de linguagem, escrita, leitura, autoria e as práticas pedagógicas no cotidiano escolar. Com base nessas considerações, o trabalho objetiva investigar se as práticas de letramento, observadas em uma escola municipal de Educação Infantil, proporcionam aos sujeitos-alunos o acesso ao arquivo, tal como entendido por Pêcheux, e, mediante o arquivo, a assunção da autoria. Para isso, foi realizada uma coleta de dados, por meio de dez visitas semanais a uma escola pública de Educação Infantil, situada em Cajuru, cidade da região de Ribeirão Preto, onde foram realizadas observações dos sujeitos-escolares no processo de construção dos sentidos, no interior da sala de aula. Com base nas análises, constatamos que quando os sujeitos-alunos são submetidos ao discurso pedagógico do tipo autoritário, conforme a concepção de Orlandi, segundo a qual ocorre uma interdição aos sentidos e o silêncio impera, a autoria não vigora, tampouco o acesso e a constituição do arquivo. Todavia, quando na sala de aula circulam várias possibilidades de interpretação e os sujeitos podem identificar-se, ou não, com determinados sentidos, quando a subjetividade tem espaço e quando o arquivo é trabalhado com os sujeitos-alunos, a autoria desde a mais tenra idade e os anos escolares iniciais manifesta-se nas produções discursivas / This work is based on the theory of Literacy from the perspective of Leda Verdiani Tfouni, and also of the pecheuxtian Discourse Analysis. The work is based on the search for a view at authorship and literacy in oral productions, in order to theoretically reflect on the concepts of language, writing, reading, authorship and pedagogical practices in school everyday. Based on these considerations, the work aims to investigate if the literacy practices in a municipal school of Early Childhood Education, which, on several occasions, enables the access of the subject-students to the archive, like Pêcheux understood, and by the archive, the authorship. To this end, a data collection was carried out, through ten weekly visits to a public school of Early Childhood Education, located in the region of Ribeirão Preto, where observations of the subject-students were made in the process of construction of the meanings, inside the classroom. Based on the analysis, we have observed that when the subject-students are submitted to the authoritarian pedagogical discourse, like understood by Orlandi, occurs an interdiction to the meanings and an injunction in saying or silence, the authorship does not apply. However, when in the classroom circulates many possibilities of interpretation and the subjects can identify themselves, or not, with certain meanings, when the subjectivity has space and when the archive is elaborated with the subject-students, the authorship manifests itself at an early age in the discoursive productions in the Early Childhood Education

A pesquisa parte do pressuposto já anotado por teóricos como Pamela Shoemaker, Tim Vos e Jane Singer, entre outros, de que existe na Internet uma ação de gatekeeping em diferentes níveis - dos jornalistas e do público - e de que são os usuários das redes sociais que detêm o poder de potencializar as informações, amplificando o alcance em espaços nos quais jornal e jornalista não têm acesso direto. Para comprovar a tese foi feita análise de conteúdo de matérias compartilhadas pelos usuários de quatro grupos do Facebook em período construído de duas semanas durante o segundo turno da campanha presidencial de 2018. Por conta da notoriedade que as manifestações pela candidatura de Jair Bolsonaro (PSL) tiveram na rede, foram escolhidos dois grupos favoráveis e dois contrários ao candidato como recorte. O objetivo foi o de estudar como se dá o controle do conteúdo compartilhado nesses espaços, observando o comportamento dos usuários com relação ao material noticioso produzido por veículos tradicionais e alternativos. Da mesma forma, observar se o jornalismo tem condições de romper o gatekeeping promovido pela bolha dos filtros algorítmicos presente no Facebook por meio da ação de usuários. (Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: This thesis proposes to discuss the role of gatekeeper performed by the public present in restricted groups on Facebook. This research starts from the assumption pointed by theoreticians as Pamela Shoemaker, Tim Vos and Jane Singer, among others, that there is on the Internet a gatekeeping action at different levels - from journalists and the public - and that it is users of social networks which have the power to leverage information, amplifying reach in spaces in which newspapers and journalists do not have direct access. To prove the thesis, an analysis of content of the news shared by users of four Facebook groups was made in a period of two weeks during the second round of the presidential campaign of 2018. Due to the notoriety that the demonstrations by the candidacy of Jair Bolsonaro (PSL) received on the internet, two favorable groups, and two against the candidate were chosen as a clipping. The objective was to study how the control of the shared content in these spaces is given, observing the behavior of the users in relation to news material produced by traditional and alternative vehicles. In the same way, to observe if journalism can break the gatekeeping promoted by the algorithmic filters bubble present in Facebook through the action of users. O romance é um gênero pouco presente nos estudos críticos e bibliográficos dedicados a autoria negra no Brasil. Intervindo nesse cenário, o principal objetivo deste trabalho é tornar visível o conjunto de romances cujas autoras brasileiras são negras, reunindo suas obras dispersas num arco histórico que atinge três séculos. A leitura comparada evidenciou vários pontos de contato, dos quais emerge um pensamento partilhado pelas diversas narrativas. Os romances se aproximam entre si ao recorrerem continuamente a um mesmo solo histórico, que resulta na posse da História. Para tanto, desenham uma imagem crítica da nação ao apontarem a sua matriz colonial constitutiva. Maria Firmina dos Reis (Úrsula, 1859), Ruth Guimarães (Água Funda, 1946), Carolina Maria de Jesus (Pedaços da fome, 1963), Anajá Caetano (Negra Efigênia: paixão do senhor branco, 1966), Aline França (A mulher de Aleduma, 1981), Marilene Felinto (As mulheres de Tijucopapo, 1982), Conceição Evaristo (Ponciá Vicêncio, 2003) e Ana Maria Gonçalves (Um defeito de cor, 2006) reelaboram a modernidade brasileira, demarcando os lugares de poder e subalternidade, constituídos pela intersecção de gênero e raça. As obras reunidas nesta tese articulam uma inteligibilidade pluriversal, porque não apagam a presença da alteridade; transtemporal, porque o passado que formulam também produz significados para o nosso presente; e posicionada, porque articulam em seu bojo o rompimento do silenciamento sobre a voz da mulher negra. / The novel is a genre little present in the critical and bibliographical studies dedicated to black authorship in Brazil. Interfering in this scenario, the main aim of this work is to make visible the set of novels whose Brazilian authors are black women, gathering their works dispersed in a historical arch that reaches three centuries. The comparative reading revealed several points of contact, from which emerges a thought shared by the different narratives. The novels approach each other by continually resorting to the same historical soil that results in the own of History. To do so, they design a critical portrait of the nation by pointing to its constitutive colonial matrix. O presente trabalho se dedica ao estudo da atribuição de responsabilidade jurídico-penal aos indivíduos que, em concurso, praticam os chamados delitos especiais, os quais exigem do autor determinadas qualidades ou condições pessoais, expressas ou pressupostas na fórmula legal. Para tanto, inicia-se por uma breve análise evolutiva das principais teorias que se ocuparam de definir os conceitos de autoria e participação delitivas ou de oferecer critérios de determinação do grau de responsabilidade dos intervenientes no delito, apontando-lhes os méritos e eventuais deméritos. Na sequência, é delimitado o objeto de estudo, definindo-se os delitos especiais, diferenciando-os de categorias afins e classificando-os conforme critérios que influam no estudo da problemática do concurso de agentes. Os delitos especiais são também estudados sob a ótica de seu fundamento material, perquirindo-se sobre a razão de, nesses delitos, o legislador empreender uma limitação do círculo de autores a determinadas categorias de sujeitos. Por fim, procede-se a um estudo das conformações possíveis da codelinquência nos delitos especiais, primordialmente do concurso de indivíduo qualificado (intraneus) e indivíduo não qualificado (extraneus), expondo e avaliando as soluções ofertadas pelas principais teorias contemporâneas da participação delitiva e a possibilidade de serem recepcionadas pela dogmática brasileira. / The present work is intended to study the laying of legal-criminal liability to individuals that, by concerted action, practice the so-called status offenses, which require from the offender certain personal qualities or conditions, expressed or presupposed in the general criminal rule. To this effect, the work begins with a brief evolutive analysis on the main theories which aimed at defining the concepts of perpetrator and criminal participation or at offering criteria to determine the degree of liability to the offense intervening parties, pointing them their merits and occasional demerit. The study object is then limited, with definition of the status offenses, differentiating them from related categories and classifying them pursuant to the criteria with influence on the agents concerted action problems. The status offenses are also studied under the material grounds point of view, with inquisition on the reasons for the legislator to proceed a limitation of the possible perpetrators to given classes of individuals in these offenses. Finally, a study of possible forms of co-delinquency on the status offenses is made, comprising primarily the concerted action between a qualified individual (intraneus) and a nonqualified individual (extraneus), expounding and analyzing the most important theories regarding criminal participation and the possibility of them being accepted by the Brazilian doctrine.

A partir da premissa de que a subjetivação seja o lugar do autor e baseados nos três domínios abordados na obra de Michel Foucault: Arqueologia, Genealogia e Ética, empreendemos uma investigação acerca dos modos de subjetivação de artistas, artistas gráficos e designers por meio dos elementos próprios da autoria, como as relações de saber, poder e o chamado cuidado de si (este último como parte do pensamento foucaultiano em torno da hermenêutica do sujeito). Instigava-nos entender o fator desencadeante para o estabelecimento de subjetividades que pareciam se dar a partir de uma teia de condutas próprias àqueles campos e constituídas, portanto, em torno de relações de saber e poder, específicas. Assim sendo, ampliamos tal compreensão da autoria, expandindo-a junto à noção de gênio de Immanuel Kant e que se baseia na ideia da criação de regras e preceitos. Introduzimos, junto a isso, os fundamentos do pensamento de Foucault em torno das práticas discursivas - utilizados ao longo do trabalho, a fim de promover uma investigação do sujeito em posição autor e daquilo que determina sua elaboração de regras de funcionamento do discurso. Posto isto, objetivamos investigar os sujeitos - artistas, artistas gráficos e designers -, como autores, por meio de seus mecanismos de saber e de suas relações de poder, o que foi feito a partir de suas subjetividades, compreendidas por meio de sua autoridade na criação de regras de conduta. Para tal, buscando entender os modos de constituição da subjetivação do autor, baseados nestas condutas, perguntamos: quais são os modos pelos quais o sujeito autor estabelece regras para si e para os outros? A fim de delimitar tal campo problemático, dividimos este trabalho em quatro capítulos, os dois primeiros discutem os modos de subjetivação do autor a partir dos domínios focaultianos vinculados às relações de poder e saber e o terceiro e o quarto capítulos utilizam-se do domínio da obra de Foucault relativo à Ética, em que tratamos do chamado cuidado de si. No último capítulo, traçamos tal reflexão a partir da produção de um Livro de artista intitulado O livro por vir, que tem como propósito representar alegoricamente o espaço da discursividade por meio de um conjunto de enunciados determinados por justaposição, relações de poder e saber e pela produção de subjetividades. / Based on the premise that subjectivity is the author\'s place and based on the three domains addressed in Michel Foucault\'s work: Archeology, Genealogy and Ethics, we undertake an investigation about the subjectivities modes of artists, graphic artists and designers through the elements, as well as the relations of knowledge, power and the so-called self-care (the last as part of Foucault\'s thinking about the hermeneutics of the subject). It instigated us to understand the triggering factor for the establishment of subjectivities that seemed to occur from a web of conduct proper to those fields and created, therefore, around specific relations of knowledge and power. Thus, we extend this understanding of authorship, expanding it along with Immanuel Kant\'s notion of genius, which is based on the idea of the creation of rules and precepts. We introduced, in addition to this expansion, the foundations of Foucault\'s thinking around the discursive practices - which were used throughout the work, in order to promote an investigation of the subject, in the author´s position, and of what determines its elaboration of rules of discourse functioning. Thus, we aimed to investigate the subjects - artists, graphic artists and designers -, as authors, by their mechanisms of knowledge and their power relations, which was done from their subjectivities and their authority in creating rules of conduct. In order to understand the modes of constitution of the subjectivities of the author, based on these behaviors, we asked: what are the ways in which the author establishes rules for himself and for others? In order to delimit such problematic field, we divided this work in four chapters: the first two discuss the author\'s subjectivities modes from the Foucaultian domains linked to the relations of power and knowledge, and the third and fourth chapters use the domain of Foucault\'s work on Ethics, dealing with the socalled self-care. In the last chapter, we draw this reflection by the production of an artist\'s book entitled The book to come, whose purpose is to represent allegorically the space of discursiveness by means of a set of statements determined by juxtaposition, relations of power and knowledge and by the production of subjectivities.

A proposta deste trabalho é analisar a formação identitária da narradora e protagonista do romance A manta do soldado, de Lídia Jorge, que se realiza mediante o processo de construção autoral. A constituição subjetiva da personagem desenvolve-se por meio de sua relação com o espaço da casa patriarcal portuguesa, que é transformado, pela imaginação, numa casa-de-escrita. Inserida nesse lugar que tem como marcas a solidão e o silêncio, ela busca, mediante a rememoração de fatos e coleta dos discursos alheios, constituir sua identidade através da função autoral. O resultado é um texto de caráter ambíguo, que contrapõe o peso da existência à leveza na forma do narrar, e que traz a preponderância da imaginação sobre a percepção dos acontecimentos. / This works proposal is to analyze narrator and protagonists identity formation in the novel A manta do soldado, by Lídia Jorge, that takes place by authorial construction process. The character\'s subjective constitution is made through her connection with Portuguese patriarchal house space, transformed, by imagination, in a house-of-writing. Placed where solitude and silence reing, she searches remembering facts and collecting other people speeches, to constitute her identity by authorial function. The result is an ambiguous text, opposing the weight of existence to the lightness of narrating form, giving preponderance to the imagination over the perception of events.

Essa pesquisa de Mestrado busca investigar as (im)possibilidades de graduandos do curso de Pedagogia se constituírem como sujeitos intérpretes-historicizados, em situação de estágio curricular supervisionado. Baseamo-nos nas premissas teóricas e metodológicas da Análise de Discurso francesa, desenvolvida por Michel Pêcheux, na abordagem Sócio-Histórica do Letramento, enfatizando-se os estudos teóricos sobre autoria, bem como nos estudos a respeito da temática de formação de professores, sobretudo, os que envolvem a investigação da formação inicial do docente, enquanto sujeito graduando de licenciatura. Os procedimentos metodológicos dessa pesquisa constituem-se de questionários, respondidos por graduandos do curso de Pedagogia de duas instituições brasileiras de ensino superior, que cursavam disciplinas de estágio curricular supervisionado para o ensino fundamental, na área da Língua Portuguesa. A análise discursiva dos dados mostra-nos que experiências positivas no estágio curricular são assim consideradas quando o graduando ocupa o lugar de intérprete-historicizado, requisito essencial para que aprenda a argumentar, pensar e refletir sobre os sentidos concernentes aos saberes e fazeres docentes, de maneira ampla, e ao estágio, de forma particular. Ocupar a posição de intérprete-historicizado proporciona ao graduando oportunidades para se entender como sujeito capaz de se deslocar do lugar de sujeito-enunciador de sentidos legitimados para a posição de sujeito-autor de seu próprio dizer, fundamental para o exercício crítico e responsável da docência. / The masters degree research aims to investigate the (im) possibilities of Pedagogy Undergraduates to be the Historically-based interpreter in curricular supervised internship situation. We based this research on theoretical and methodological framework of French Discourse Analysis, developed by Michel Pêcheux, and on the Social-Historical approach to literacy, emphasizing the theoretical studies of authorship, as well as in the studies about teacher training, especially those that involve the investigation of initial training of professor, while licentiate undergraduates. The metodological procedies of this research is made of questionnaires, answered by pedagogy undergraduates of two brazilian colleges, attending disciplines of supervised curricular internship for elementary education in the area of Portuguese language. The discursive analysis of data show us that positive experiences in curricular internship are therefore considered when the undergraduate takes the place of historicized-interpreters, essential requisite to learn to argue, think and reflect about the concerning senses to the professor knowledge and doings, in a wide manner, and to the internship in a particular way. Staying on the position of a historically-based interpreter provides to the undergraduate the opportunities to understand himself or herself as a subject capable to move himself or herself from a place of subject-enunciator of legitimated senses to a position of a subject-author of his or her own speech, fundamental to critical and responsible exercise of teaching.

Arnold / Taking a gap year between high school and college has become more common in the United States in recent years, yet little research attempts to describe or analyze the experience of the students who arrive on college campuses after such a year out. This qualitative study followed 12 first-year students attending highly-selective private institutions in the northeastern U.S. as they experienced the transitions from high school to gap year to college. With varying levels of family support and high levels of personal motivation, the students participated in a wide range of gap-year endeavors. The findings indicate that students were heavily influenced by their encounters during the gap year, leading to strong evidence of self-authorship among the participants, which in turn shaped the way students pursued their goals when they arrived at college. Particularly influential were encounters that involved independent problem-solving, participating in multigenerational relationships, and immersion in new cultural settings. The students' transitions to college during the first year were marked by patterns of Sovereign Engagement with regard to learning, relationships, and decision-making. Commonly marked by internalized goals, authenticity in relationships, and greater individual agency, "Sovereign Engagement" captures the self-authored perspective that these students brought to their college experience. Contrary to suggestions in the popular media, not all gap-year students found the transition to be seamless; nor were they uniformly motivated to earn good grades. As a summary of the findings, the Gap Year Impact Model provides an important frame of reference for understanding the experiences, needs, and sovereign decision-making patterns of gap-year students. The results offer students, parents, colleges and universities an introduction to the lived experiences of gap-year students, who are arriving on campus in increasing numbers each year. / Thesis (PhD) — Boston College, 2015. / Submitted to: Boston College.
