Women's everyday resistance: space, affect and healing

Day, Sarah 01 1900 (has links)
Despite South Africa’s constitution being demonstrably one of the most progressive in the world, there remains a divide between legislation and women’s lived experiences of violence and inequality. In this context, marginalised women, in particular, are often wrongly perceived of as lacking in power and agency. In an attempt to understand how marginalised women articulate their agency under conditions of direct and structural violence, the aim of my study is to examine how women perform everyday resistance to violence at and between different sites, including the home, community and state-controlled institutions, and to examine the process of undertaking this research, using a critical reflexive approach. My research is structured around four studies. In Study I, I examine how a group of marginalised women perform everyday resistance in relation to state-controlled institutions. In Study II, I consider how a group of marginalised women do everyday resistance in relation to constructions of home. Study III offers an analysis of how the Thembelihle Women’s Forum functions as an invented space of resistance, and everyday resistance is a relational practice. Finally, in Study IV, I do a critical reflexive reading of psychosocial accompaniment as method, elucidating the complexities, tensions and trade-offs inherent to the method. When considered against my study’s broader theoretical framework (i.e., liberation psychology, feminist geopolitics and affective economies), the findings of these four studies present a complex examination of the enactment of everyday resistance. Each of the studies demonstrates a number of strategies for everyday resistance, including becoming a willful subject, refusal and withdrawal, quiet encroachment, collective storytelling, affective reimagining, collective conscientisation, de-ideologizing reality, social solidarity, coping mechanisms, tactics of survival and acts of reclamation. Methodologically, I demonstrate the messiness inherent to how power dynamics are reproduced and resisted during the research process. My research seeks to deepen our understandings of the flow of power within the research process, and the dynamic and shifting imperatives of our research practice. / Psychology / D. Phil. Saint Vincent de Paul, Promoteur de la Vocation de la Femme dans l'Église et dans la Société de XVIIe siècle / Saint Vincent de Paul, promoteur of the vocation of women in the church and in the society of the seventeenth century

Kochuparambil, Mathew 19 January 2018 (has links)
The promotion and empowerment of women is a recurrent theme in the society today. The history of the Catholic Church, from its very inception, has shown its indifference towards women due to the strong male representation in its institutions. In fact, the question of the promotion of women remained insignificant or rather a sensitive issue within the Church. The clergymen, anti-women by their attitude and with considerable power in the local administration, opposed all possible services by women in the church and in the society. The peak of this opposition, in our opinion, is situated towards the end of the 16th century and the beginning of the 17th century with the stringent imposition of cloister for women who tried to engage in social service together with their spiritual life. In the same way, in a society predominantly patriarchal, the woman's existence went almost unnoticed. Surprisingly, the intervention of Vincent de Paul and his collaboration with women opened up possibilities not only for their promotion but also for a change of attitude towards them in the Church and the society. With his clever interpretations of the laws of the Church, Vincent would succeed in bringing the woman out of cloister for the service of the poor at home, in hospitals and in the streets. The Confraternity of Charity founded in 1617, the Daughters of Charity founded in 1633 and the Confraternity of the Ladies of Charity at Hôtel-Dieu founded in 1634 remain as a visible and living history of the success of the promotion of woman by Vincent de Paul.

Modelo de negocio basado en la implementación de un aplicativo para sobrellevar la diabetes / Business model based on the implementation of an application for coping with diabetes

Alcántara Alfaro, Paola Karymé, Cifuentes Espinoza, Franco Renato, Fernandez Estrada, Camila Alexandra, Qwistgaard Espinal, Lourdes Felicita, Salcedo Robles, Diana Anel 19 November 2021 (has links)
In Perú, diabetes mellitus cases are increasing according to the Demographic and Family Health Survey, ENDES, (2019). This is evidenced by the fact that in a group of one hundred Peruvians, four of them are diabetic patients. Such figure motivated the investigation of that segment, and their lifestyle was questioned. From this, Easy Life became an idea to be a business model based on the implementation of an application to cope with diabetes. In this way, Easy Life is committed to providing support and lifestyle improvements for diabetics with diet and physical activity according to their needs. Therefore, the value proposition involves providing a list of user-focused services to help them cope with their diagnosis. In the present investigation, research and analysis of the viability of the business model has been carried out. Therefore, different types of validations were developed with potential customers, business partners and experts in order to know the real performance of the project. In addition, concierges have been executed in order to evaluate the acquisition behaviour on the monthly plans. It originated with special detail in the fulfilment of each quadrant of the Business Model Canvas which is reflected in the marketing plan as well as in the financial flow in conjunction with the sales projection. In its entirety, the evolution of the model from the idea through to the development of the idea is thus shown. / Trabajo de investigación

Bohuslav Martinů's Oboe Concerto, H. 353: A New Piano Reduction of the Orchestral Score

Jeoung, Ko Eun 12 1900 (has links)
Bohuslav Martinů's "Concerto for Oboe and Small Orchestra" is one of the most frequently played pieces in the oboe repertoire. For this reason, it is often played with the piano reduction instead of the orchestra in oboe recitals. However, the existing piano reductions include many errors and discrepancies from the orchestral score, misrepresent the orchestration, sometimes fail to make the oboe entries clear, and tend to be unplayable for pianists. Moreover, the scores were published after the composer's death without him supervising the final editing. I have prepared a new, playable piano reduction to represent the orchestration more faithfully and help pianists work with their soloists more easily. Based on the work of Martin Katz, a prominent collaborative-pianist, I establish four principles for creating a new piano reduction. After scrutiny of the deficiencies of existing piano reductions, I suggest solutions for making the passages in question practical and bringing out the leading voices clearly so that the soloist can join in as easily as playing with an orchestra. To aid in reflecting the orchestral texture that Martinů created, I include abbreviated instrument names in many passages to help pianists to understand how to create balance. I have changed some passages completely to make the sound closer to the orchestral texture. All changes and suggestions are based on the orchestral score and its layout. This simplified and practical piano reduction should help pianists have more enjoyable and more successful collaborations with their soloists.

Problems in integrating theory with practice in selected clinical nursing situations

Davhana-Maselesele, Mashudu 01 1900 (has links)
Text in English / The current changes in health care systems challenges knowledgeable, mature and independent practitioners to be able to integrate theoretical content with practice. The study aims to investigate the problems of integrating theory with practice in selected clinical nursing situations. The study focused on the rendering of family planning services to clients which is a component of Community Nursing Science. The findings of the study reveal that there is a need for an integrated holistic curriculum which will address the needs of the community. It was concluded that a problem-based and community-based curriculum, safe and patient-friendly clinical environments, intersectoral collaboration between college and hospital management and student involvement in all processes of teaching and learning will improve the integration of theory and practice. There also appears to be a need for tutors to be more involved in clinical teaching, accompaniment and the continuous evaluation of students. / Health Studies / M.A. (Nursing Science)
