'Esse' versus 'este' no português brasileiro e no europeu / "'Esse' x 'este' in Brazilian Portuguese and in European Porttuguese"

Pereira, Helcius Batista 09 November 2005 (has links)
The aim of the following project is to contribute to the discussion regarding the changes through which the Brazilian Portuguese demonstrative system goes, comparing two types of Portuguese language, the Brazilian and the European. We will concentrate our attention on the opposition between “este" e “esse." Furthermore, we will not limit ourselves to the way of speaking and will focus on studying the occurrence of such demonstratives in several corpora that represent three different discourse types: fictional and journalistic writing, and also the way of speaking. Each corpus was treated according to the characterization proposed by Halliday and Hasan (1997), separating both references, endophoric and exophoric. The research selected from the three levels (syntactic, semantic and discursive), variables that would have impact on the usage of “este" e “esse." The results show that Brazilians only use “este" significantly in the genders characterized by the existence of grammatical review. However, the Portuguese people maintain the ternary system which is still rooted in the spatial issue/ interlocution field in speaking as well as in writing. Texts in which manual’s rules are emphasized have enough room for both nationalities to choose between the two options: the Portuguese people choose “este" while the Brazilians prefer “ esse." This research disputes Marine´s (2004) view that the Brazilian oral system shows a specialization according to the kind of reference. Our data has shown that within the Brazilian speech "este" appears just residually and is bound to be replaced with "esse". The Brazilian binary configuration is different from the one used in English. The results show that the words “this" and “esse" are not exactly synonyms. The usage of the Brazilian demonstrative appears in contexts where in English only “that" could be used. The research reached another important conclusion. It suggests the existence of a relationship between the referential hierarchy and the choice of demonstrative. In most corpora we found an association between a higher usage percentage of “este" and the reference to elements characterized by a larger load of references.

No. of bitstreams: 1 arquivo total.pdf: 1246465 bytes, checksum: 64619ce538bea8f6beb75ff0ca102d86 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-02-19 / This research has the objective of reflecting on the characterization of the perfective and imperfective aspects to support a scale analysis of the criterion of transitivity aspect that faces the binary perspective of Hopper and Thompson (1980). It is a bibliographic research, with theoretical research, associated to the analysis of examples. The present exemplification is constituted, mainly, of the dissertation of Vanderlei (2014), entitled “Oral Transitivity: reflections on the textual-discursive function of the pronouns o(s), a(s), me, te”, which were the comparative base for us between the scale and binary proposal of analysis of the aspect. We put as the issue of the research the fact that the perfective and imperfective aspects generally being defined by binary oppositions, when it can present a group of more or less obvious traces. We hypothesize that the criterion aspect must be analysed according to the acting of a group of characterizing notions, indicating traces of perfectivity or imperfectivity. The analysis of the exemplification highlighted revealed that the most perfective actions and, therefore, more transitive, are characterized by the presence of notions of punctuality, completion and finishing and by the lack of length, while the most imperfective actions, less transitive, are characterized by the presence of length and completion and the lack of punctuality and finishing. We conclude that there is the possibility modification of binary results from a scale analysis of the criterion of transitivity aspect, signalizing the complementary validity of this last proposal as a form of approximating the study of the functionalist criterion of the particularities of the verbal category in Brazilian Portuguese.

This search of quality involves a general question : Is the phenomenon of new gyms only for women the cause of the modern idea of feminine independence? We established an interview to collect observational data. With a semistructured questionaire, we interviewed twenty-three candidates from three women only gyms in the city of Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais. After the inicial information was abstracted from the relative data from the interview, we formed two arguments. The objective of the first argument was to analyze the identities of women from their pyscological (re)position. We concluded that these "independent women" left behind those traditional roles and have taken more value in their bodies and their relationships, allowing only the privileged to love them. It is a housewife and maternal identity to conserve in this way, fixed, paradoxically, the change of a necessary advancement. The objective of the second argument is to analyze the motives of the practice of excercise in women only gyms and relations with binary sexuality. We concluded that the motives of these interviewed candidates for the practice of excercise in these areas are based, fundamentally, in relation with what they have established, direct or indirect, with men "at home" (boyfriends/husbands) and/or the social scene.

It presents as theoretical support the historical studies of literature for children and youth developed by Ferral; Jackson and Richards, researchers that have postulated the existence of a literature divided into two parallel lines, accordant to boys or to girls. The thesis consists of two main parts. The first part retrieves the path of literature of binary nature (for girls and for boys), from a historical perspective. The second part has as its central focus the systematic analysis of 38 narratives that comprise Rosa-Choque and Azul Radical series, contained in Jovens Leitores collection, published by editora Rocco, from a grid model developed by João Luís Ceccantini (2000). The Rosa-Choque series brings together works from authors Ann Brashares, Marcia Kupstas, Angélica Lopes, Thalita Rebouças, Louise Rennison and Cherry Whytock. Azul Radical series consists of narratives by Alberto Alecrim, Ariel Dorfman and Joaquin Dorfman, Richard Hofstetter, Domenica Luciani and Gustavo Reiz. The choice for these series was motivated by the explicit design that each one has, geared towards boys or girls, from premises that define different focuses of interest. The set of works revealed that strands suffered changes since they were forged. In the current model, they dialogue directly with a certain type of young, middle-class, resident of urban centers and essentially consumer. The psychological narrative gained more space, breaking in part with the classic division between adventure literature for boys and sentimental literature for girls. In the comparison established between the literature written by Brazilian and foreign authors, the incipiency of domestic production was evident, since our country don’t values what criticism understands as "entertainment literature." The result is that while foreign literature launches works that reveal an efficient ethical and aesthetic work, the national reality is invaded by an anodyne and impoverished literature.

Ramírez Cavero, Brunela Almendra 27 June 2020 (has links)
This research constitutes the main theme of gender binarism which, throughout history, has been made present by the normative allocation of forms of expression, action and physical appearance to the sexes of men and women. This spectrum, by classifying the sexes into only two genders (male and female), has led to the construction of gender roles and ideals that have produced stigmas and gender patterns that harm certain people who do not identify and / or express themselves differently from their gender assigned at birth. For this reason, a theoretical analysis has been carried out that studies binarism and its link with clothing that allows us to understand how it manifests itself visually and to what extent it delimits the behavior of people according to their assigned gender. This work seeks to study a group of young people to understand their perception of gender binarism in clothing and how it is manifested or not in the way they dress. Subsequently, the theoretical analysis will seek an answer to the main objective through interviews and focus groups, to analyze more closely about their experiences, knowledge and perceptions, based on the theory of gender binarism and its manifestations. / Trabajo de investigación

Queer Invisibility in Upper Secondary Language Course Textbooks? : A Discourse Analysis of EFL and Swedish as a Second Language Textbooks, and Teachers’ Perceptions on Representation

Eriksson, Rasmus January 2024 (has links)
The erasure of queer identities in EFL textbooks has been well documented, both in Swedish and international contexts. However, not much has been studied regarding queer representation is Sweden’s other L2 subject, Swedish as a second language (SVA). The present study aimed to examine queer representation and ideologies on gender and sexuality within Swedish upper secondary EFL and SVA textbooks, as well as to examine teachers’ perceptions on queer-inclusive education. Two textbooks per subject were analysed (N=4), and two teachers per subject (N=4) were interviewed; The data was analysed using both qualitative content analysis and critical discourse analysis. The results showed that all textbooks constructed gender as binary, actively erasing non-binary identities. In all textbooks, the construction of sexuality was mostly influenced by heteronormativity. There was also a tendency to have the queer representations be famous people (e.g., Oscar Wilde). Additionally, queer characters (unlike heterosexual ones) were not allowed to be portrayed partaking in explicit sexual or romantic activities, creating a distance to the queer characters where they passively exist “over there”. Regarding the interviews, all teachers reported that queer-inclusive teaching was important, but their reports also indicated to a discourse of tolerance where only explicit discriminatory practices are engaged with (allowing underlying discriminatory ideologies perpetuate). They reported of challenges in implementing queer-inclusive education such as: students challenging queer topics, cultural differences, and a disconnect between the schools’ values and the values at students’ homes. A striking difference between the EFL and SVA teachers were that the SVA teachers displayed difficulties in explicitly using queer-related vocabulary (such as gay and LGBTQ+), and instead relied of referential pronouns. Overall, the findings showed that the textbooks displayed ideologies of heteronormativity and gender binarism, and the interviewed teachers perceived queer-inclusive education as desirable, but with difficulties in addressing. Generally, there were no differences between the subjects, with the exception of the SVA teachers’ difficulties in using queer vocabulary.

La complexité linguistique : essai de théorisation et d'application dans un cadre comparatiste / Language complexity : an attempt at theorizing an applying linguistic complexity in a comparative framework

Glaudert, Nathalie 22 November 2011 (has links)
This thesis in theoretical linguistics is set within a comparative framework. The first part is an attempt to theorize the measurement of linguistic complexity. We endeavour to redefine markedness theory – on which our cross-disciplinary research is based – while taking into account (i) the different definitions given to the theory since its creation, (ii) the benefits other theoretical models can bring to this theory, and (iii) the criticisms the theory has received. The second part of our thesis is an attempt to apply markedness theory in order to test its degree of validity in several components of language and in intraand inter-systemic analyses of some Indo-European and Indian Ocean languages. We also aim at identifying the limits of this theory and presenting other competing functional principles.
