Etude théorique et expérimentale de la génération et des corrélations quantiques de photons triplets générés par interaction non linéaire d'ordre trois / Theoretical and experimental study of generation and quantum correlations of triple photons generated by a third order non linear interaction

Dot, Audrey 15 December 2011 (has links)
This work deals about the study of coherence between triple photon beams generated by a third order non linear interaction. A protocol, based on the study of the field arising from sum-frequency of the triplet fields in a non linear crystal, was proposed. A theoretical model, in the quantum formalism, was developed, leading to an exhaustive research of the potential signature of the correlations. All the possible schemes were studied : triple fields generation from parametric fluorescence or from stimulated interaction, and recombination of two or three of the triple fields. The experiments we led, i.e. the bi-stimulated non linear generation and the recombination of the so-born fields, agree with our theoretical model and put into light the correlations hiding in this highly stimulated regime, since these correlations lie in the quantum fluctuations of the fields operators. The theoretical calculations predicts a strong correlations signature when the fields are generated from parametric fluorescence, and a weaker one in the case of a generation mono-stimulated.

A LEADERSHIP PERSPECTIVE ON FAMILY ENGAGEMENT: QUALITATIVE CONTENT ANALYSIS OF SECONDARY DATA

Anderson, Stephanie 01 January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to explore the leadership actions and activities that contributed to the implementation of a schoolwide family engagement initiative in a school. A qualitative content analysis of secondary data design was used to investigate the intentional actions and activities of a school leadership team during the implementation of a family engagement initiative within an elementary school. The Coherence Framework (Fullan & Quinn, 2016) provided a lens for which to investigate schoolwide change across drivers and sub-drivers. The findings of this study describe intentional leadership actions and activities when communicating with families, conducting formal assessments, and facilitating professional development. Patterns from the analysis indicate school leaders engage in intentional leadership actions and activities across all drivers and sub-drivers within the Coherence Framework (Fullan & Quinn, 2016). Family engagement practices are driven by core beliefs and consideration of the establishment of collective efficacy within the Coherence Framework may better support implementation of school change within family engagement implementation.

We Are Constantly Expected To Disregard Ourselves And Our Personal Needs: Addressing The Daily Stressors Of Private Emergency Medical Services

Bonilla, Erich Jimenez 01 June 2019 (has links)
ABSTRACT Background Private Emergency Medical Services serve a vital role in the community, as such they are subject to job related stress. Currently, there is a limited amount of research related to the stressors related to the job. Objective The purpose of this study was to define the type of daily stressors faced by Private EMS personnel and investigate how they impact their Sense of Coherence. Study Design A mixed methods approach was used in this study to obtain the necessary data. Semi-structured one-on-one interviews were conducted with current employees of an EMS agency that provides 911 service in their area. After the interviews, the participants were administered a survey. Participants/setting Current EMS employees were invited to participate in an interview, in a location and time of their choosing. Both Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) were invited to participate. Results Critical call incidents, while impacting the mental health of EMS provides, it does not impact them with the same magnitude of operational stress. Operational stress originates from the daily task, interactions and availability of resources. Operational stress was demonstrated to have a large impact on Sense of Coherence. Conclusion Operational stress can have a larger impact on Sense of Coherence of EMS personnel. Research is needed to determine which EMS model helps mitigate the impacts of operational stress on the EMS personnel.

The discursive coherence in the written productions of the learners secondary schools in the Republic of Congo : anaphores and connectives

Nkoula-Moulongo, Solange 30 June 2016 (has links)
This doctoral thesis deals with an examination of the expression of discusivecoherence from the uses of anaphors and connectives by secondary and high school chidren in Congo. How do these linguistic tools exhibit textual cohesion? To make sense of the way in which certain cohesive markers organize the discursve cohernce, a contextualized and dynamic answer is provid in three parts. In forst party, the presentation of theories, context and methodogy is made. At this level the argument centres on three chapters. The first chapter focuses on the data from type of instruction that the pupils have receved. The third chapter presents our research methodology. Several operations are identified at this level. The second party concentrates on the "anaphoric appraoches". In chapter four, an examination of pronominal anaphors is carried out. In the fifth chapter, lexical anaphors are studied. In the light of Jean Michel Adam's (2008), Georges Kleiber's theories (1994), the uses of faithful, unfaithful, hyperononic, resomption and associatives by the learners. We devote two shapters here to takle the premiment pnenomina. Chapter six deals with enumerationand conclusion markers. In chapter seven, the argument centers on the justication and opposition connectives. These two types of connective are widely used in the congolese learners' papers.

Comparison of Neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration Populations in the United States

Coultas, Susan Lynette 01 January 2016 (has links)
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is one of the leading causes of blindness in the United States in people who are 50 and older. The safety and efficacy of aflibercept for the treatment of late stage neovascular AMD (NAMD) has been demonstrated by clinical trials among several populations; however, it is unclear whether all NAMD patients respond in the same manner as was studied in the clinical trials. The purpose of this study was to examine if populations of patients treated with aflibercept for the treatment of NAMD were significantly different from one another in terms of health characteristics, treatment regimens, and treatment outcomes. The burden of treatment theory was used to guide this study. Data collected from electronic medical records were used to investigate NAMD characteristics 199 patients from 3 private, retinal practices in the United States. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA, 2, Spearman's correlation, and point-biserial correlation tests. The results of this study showed the specific retinal practice populations of NAMD patients treated with aflibercept were generally similar with respect to selected health characteristics, treatment regimens, and treatment outcomes. By using the information reported from this research, public health initiatives can be developed that focus on the need for early detection of AMD to capture changes that represent NAMD and move to early treatment for better outcomes. The positive social change that could result from this research is that retinal specialists may gain insight into the use and outcomes of aflibercept treatment.

A Study of Perceptions on Working Preventively and Promotionally Regarding Problematic School Absence and High Ability

Schymberg Landström, Elin January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate how different teams tell about their work in prevention and promotion in different municipalities, with pupils at risk of falling into problem-free school absence, with a particular focus on pupils with special talent. Five qualitative focus group interviews have been conducted in four different municipalities of varying sizes. It has been shown that the level of knowledge in terms of responding to pupils who need extra stimulation and the ability to adapt the learning environment adequately has varied between the municipalities. Some of the municipalities could see a connection between the pupil group, especially talented pupils and pupils with problematic school absence and in one of the municipalities there was also a connection to socio-emotional problems among these. Data has been analyzed from a salutogenic perspective, where adaptation of the learning environment and the student's perception of belonging to a context, appear as success factors. To be able to work on promotion and prevention as a special educator, one should have knowledge about all pupils and this study shows examples of how this can be done.

I don’t feel good enough” : A qualitative study of adolescents experiences of how social media affects their health

Fridehjelm, Maja, Broström, Linn, Olsson, Ida January 2019 (has links)
Among adolescents aged 16-18 in Sweden, mental illness has increased in recent years and is expected to continue to increase. Sweden is one of the most digitized countries, where 99 % of Swedish teenagers have access to and are estimated to use social media from two to over six hours daily. Previous research in the field demonstrates a connection between the use of social media and the emergence of mental illness. The purpose of this study was to highlight what experiences adolescents have about how social media and the prevailing norms of health portrayed on social media affect their self-perceived mental health. The study has a social constructivist basis with an abductive approach. In the study, four focus group interviews with 17 informants were carried out, which were then analyzed using a qualitative content analysis. The result showed that the adolescents feel that social media primarily have a negative impact on their self-perceived mental health since they are afraid of missing things while also comparing themselves with others on social media. The adolescents also experience that their self-perceived mental health is mainly negatively affected by the prevailing norms of health that flourish on social media, since norms about body ideals and lifestyles primarily lead to feelings of anxiety, demands, pressure, disappointment, failure and inadequacy. The study's conclusion is that the adolescents are mainly affected negatively by what they see on social media and the prevailing norms of health that are portrayed on social media related to their self-perceived mental health.

Influence de la dimension spatiale et des capacités mnésiques des lecteurs sur les processus de suppression et de réactivation d’informations textuelles / Distinction between two processes : inhibition and Suppression as function of irrelevant spatial information and inappropriate spatial information

Renau Op't'Hoog, Céline 12 July 2010 (has links)
The objective of this research is to study an aspect of comprehension text; the construction of the mental representation and the preservation of coherence, according to working memory capacities of the reader. To understand a text, the reader is brought to elaborate a mental representation of the situation evoked by this one (i.e., the model of situation). To this aim, the reader should put in relation the information in the course of treatment with those handled earlier and delete information became irrelevant to maintain the coherence of the meaning (Kintsch, 1998; Gernsbacher, 1990). Memorial skills are thus essential in the implementation of this coherence. Besides, this research of coherence should be made from several dimensions of the text, namely the spatiality, the temporality, the causality, and the emotion (Zwaan, Langston and Graesser, on 1995).Our first objective was to highlight the existence of the mechanism of suppression of the spatial information during the construction of the mental representation. For that purpose, we presented texts containing two spatial informations, one of this information was developed in a preferential way (the other one becoming irrelevant) and we made vary the quantity of textual data presented according to texts. This protocol allowed us to test the inhibition, and the suppression of this spatial information. To study the link between working memory capacities and the process of suppression, we used a test that evaluates the capacity of the working memory of the participants (i.e. Corsi’s blocks). Our second objective was to test in a more complete way the implementation of inhibition and suppression processes during reading of a text according to the type of presented information (relevant, irrelevant and incoherent with the story of the text).Obtained results allowed us to confirm the existence of a process of inhibition which intervenes for the incoherent information of a text, and a mechanism of suppression occurring for the irrelevant information. The inconsistent information seems to be inhibited at first, before definitively eliminated by the mental representation of the text. These two processes are necessary to the construction of a coherent model of situation of a text.

The contribution of periodontal mechanoreceptors to physiological tremor in the human jaw.

Sowman, Paul Fredrick January 2007 (has links)
The human jaw, like all other articulated body parts, exhibits small oscillatory movements during isometric holding tasks. These movements, known as physiological tremor, arise as a consequence of the interaction of various factors. One of these factors is reflex feedback from peripheral receptors. In the human jaw, receptors that innervate the periodontium are able to transduce minute changes in force. This thesis examines the contribution of these periodontal mechanoreceptors (PMRs) to the genesis of physiological tremor of the human jaw. By using frequency domain analysis of time series recorded during isometric biting tasks, the character of physiological jaw tremor can be revealed. Physiological jaw tremor was observed in force recorded from between the teeth as well as from electromyograms recorded from the principal muscles of mastication. These recordings have shown us that jaw physiological tremor consists of a frequency invariant component between 6 and 10Hz. This frequency remains unaltered under various load conditions where the mechanical resonance of the jaw would be expected to vary greatly (Chapter 2). Such findings indicate a ‘neurogenic’ origin for this tremor. A possible candidate for this neurogenic component of physiological tremor in the jaw is the reflex feedback arising from the PMRs. Using local anaesthetisation, it has been shown in this thesis, that by blocking outflow from the PMRs, the amplitude of neurogenic physiological jaw tremor can be reduced dramatically. This procedure caused a dramatic reduction in not only the mechanical recordings of tremor but also in the coupling between masseteric muscles bilaterally (Chapter 3) and between single motor units recorded from within a homonymous muscle (Chapter 4). The obvious mechanism by which periodontal mechanoreceptor anaesthetisation could reduce the amplitude of physiological tremor in the jaw would be by reducing the amplitude of the oscillatory input to the motoneurones driving the tremor. This interpretation remains controversial however as physiological tremor in the jaw can be observed at force levels above which the PMRs are supposedly saturated in their response. In light of this knowledge, the saturating characteristics of these receptors in terms of reflex output were examined. To do this, a novel stimulation paradigm was devised whereby the incisal teeth were mechanically stimulated with identical stimulus waveforms superimposed upon increasing tooth preloads. This necessitated the use of a frequency response method to quantify the reflexes. An optimal frequency for stimulation was identified and used to confirm that the hyperbolic saturating response of PMRs observed previously, translated to a similar phenomenon in masticatory reflexes (Chapter 5). These data reinforced the idea that physiological tremor in the jaw was not just a consequence of rhythmic reflex input from PMRs, as the dynamic reflex response uncoupled from the input as the receptor-mediated reflex response saturated. An alternative hypothesis was then developed that suggested the effect of PMR suppression in physiological tremor was via tonic rather than rhythmic effects on the masseteric motoneurone pool. By utilising a novel contraction strategy to manipulate the mean firing rate of the motor neuron pool at a given level of force production, data contained in Chapter 6 shows that population motor unit firing statistics influence the expression of physiological tremor, and such manipulations mimic, to an extent, the changes in firing statistics and tremor amplitude seen during anaesthetisation of the PMRs. This thesis therefore posits a mechanism whereby periodontal input influences the firing rate of motoneurones in such a way as to promote tremulous activity (Chapter 5). However, as this proposed mechanism did not explain the full extent of tremor suppression seen during PMR anaesthetisation it can therefore only be considered a contributing factor in a multifactor process. / http://proxy.library.adelaide.edu.au/login?url= http://library.adelaide.edu.au/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?BBID=1297555 / Thesis (Ph.D.) -- University of Adelaide, School of Molecular and Biomedical Science, 2007
