Överbryggande av kommunikationsbarriärer med drivkraft framåt : En intervjustudie om konsten att främja barns hälsa i det transkulturella mötet / Bridging communication barriers with a drive forward : An interview study on the art of promoting children's health in the transcultural encounter

Björk, Deborah, Rocha, Kelly January 2021 (has links)
A quarter of children in Sweden have a foreign background, according to the Convention onthe Rights of the Child (2020) all children own the same rights. Primary care is usually their first contact with Swedish healthcare, which places demands on nurses who are responsible for providing and enabling equal care. However, inequalities often arise due to communication barriers in the meeting. Purpose The purpose was to describe primary care nurses' experiences of communication barriers in the meeting with children of foreign-born parents.  Method The study was conducted with a qualitative design and an inductive approach. Semistructured interviews were conducted with nurses in primary care in western Sweden. The interviews were analyzed with a qualitative content analysis according. Results In caring for children of foreign-born parents, nurses in primary care possess tools for bridging communication barriers. By navigating the dialogue and identifying the culture and finding ways to communicate can enable preparedness for the task. Thus nurses can bear the responsibility and feelings in the mission towards a more equal care for the child. By overbridging communication barriers, nurses are able to cherish for the child's rights and increase knowledge of the phenomenon. Conclusion Communication barriers have been lifted worldwide in previous research. More knowledge concerning solutions for communication barriers is needed from the child's perspective. Research needs to focus more on how to work around the problem with a drive forward.

Hammarlund, Lisa, Tashima, Marika January 2023 (has links)
Background: The nurse has a responsibility to relieve patient’s suffering and to promote health. Communication is one of many tools that the nurse uses in her caring work. Information given to the patient must be adapted to individual conditions and it must be ensured that the patient has understood the context. Effective communication where the focus is on the patient's narrative, is crucial for providing a safe and high-quality care. Aim: To describe communication barriers between nurses and patients from a nurse perspective. Method: A literature review according to Friberg´s method description was adapted based on ten scientific articles with qualitative and quantitative designs. The databases used were CINAHL Complete and Pubmed where the primary keywords were communication barriers, nurse and patient. Results: The results showed that nurses experienced difficulties that hindered effective communication with patients and they expressed a concern for patient safety and the quality of care. The nurses applied strategies such as body language, facial expressions, use of interpreters and bilingual colleagues to overcome the communication barriers. Summary: Different factors could hinder an effective communication with patients, the nurses applied different strategies to overcome the barriers. The authors discuss the results from the following three categories: Cultural competence in nursing, nurses' attitudes and emotional aspects and the nurses lack of knowledge and education in communication.

The absence of a common language : Nurses’ experiences of communicating breastfeeding support across languagebarriers - a qualitative questionnaire study

Merrill, Sofia, Örnberg, Karolina January 2017 (has links)

Among the cultural lines of the deaf community, sign language is the most emphasized one: besides being a linguistical system, it is an element of constitution of the deaf person identity. In Brazil, it is legally assured the deaf the right to communicate in his natural language, that is, Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS), with no imposition of the usage of the majority language of the country. This doctoring thesis is part of the WHOQOL-LIBRAS project, a result of a partnership between Federal University of Goiás, World Health Organization and Brazil´s WHOQOL group in Federal University of Rio Grande Do Sul. In order to perform the WHOQOL-LIBRAS project, it was divided into two sub-projects with distinct but interdependent stages: Project 1 - Construction of the WHOQOL-BREF and WHOQOL-DIS versions in LIBRAS; Project 2 - Application/validation of the WHOQOL-BREF and WHOQOL-DIS instruments in the LIBRAS version. This thesis comprises Project 1. General Objective: Build the LIBRAS version of the WHOQOL-BREF and WHOQOL-DIS instruments to evaluate the brazilian deaf community quality of life. Methods: A transversal and exploratory study, designing based in the Methodological Research. The methodology proposed by the World Health Organization was used and adapted to the deaf community, and in accordance with the criteria established with Brazil WHOQOL group, the accomplishment of the project was divided into 13 phases: 1. creation of the QUALITY OF LIFE sign; 2. development of the answer scales in LIBRAS; 3. translation by a bilingual group; 4. recouncilling version; 5. first retrotranslation; 6. production of the version in LIBRAS to be provided to the focal groups; 7. realization of the Focal Groups; 8. review by a monolingual group; 9. revision by the bilingual group; 10. semantic/syntactic analysis and second retrotranslation; 11. re-evaluation of the retrotranslation by the bilingual group; 12. recording the final version into the software in studio; 13. software development of the WHOQOL-BREF and WHOQOL-DIS instruments into the LIBRAS version. Results: Peculiar characteristics of the deaf people culture pointed to the necessity of adaptations in the application methodology of focal groups when it is compound by deaf people. The writing conventions of the signed languages are yet not consolidated, thus, some difficulties were faced in graphically register the translation phases of Portuguese into LIBRAS. Linguistics structures that caused major problems in translation were those that included portuguese idiomatic expressions, for many of them are no equivalent concepts between Portuguese and LIBRAS. In the end, it was possible to build up a WHOQOL-BREF and WHOQOL-DIS software in LIBRAS. Conclusion: The WHOQOL-BREF and the WHOQOL-DIS in LIBRAS will allow the deaf to express about the quality of life in an autonomous way, and this will make possible to investigate more accurately the issues of deaf people quality of live. Besides, the WHOQOL-BREF and the WHOQOL-DIS in LIBRAS will be part of the World Health Organization instruments for evaluating quality of life. A presente tese constitui o Projeto 1.

Guelai, Hiba, Mohamed, Ikram January 2022 (has links)
Background: Language barriers in health care have become increasingly common as immigration and migration have increased. The importance of communication, equal care, patient safety and patient’s experiences of language barriers are presented. Aim: The purpose of the literature study was to shed light on nurse’s experiences of language barriers in care. Method: A general literature review was conducted according to Fribergs (2017) analysis model. 10 scientific articles were analyzed of which 9 were qualitative and one quantitative article. Articles were retrieved from the databases PUBMED, CINAHL Complete and Medline with the following keywords: nurse perception, nurse-patient-relations, nurse experience and language barriers. Results: The results showed that the quality of care was negatively affected by language barriers and risked patient safety. Nurses applied different ways to overcome language barriers. The results of the literature study are presented based on these main categories: Language barriers lead to uncertainty, frustration and anxiety, to communicate through an interpreter, to speak the same language and alternative means of communication. Summary: In this literature review, nurses' experiences of language barriers in care have been highlighted, as well as how it affects nursing. In order to achieve equality and be able to provide person-centered care to these patients, the nurse should have a cultural competence and be able to understand the meaning of cultural nursing. Mjukvaruutveckling med Continuous Delivery : En kvalitativ fallstudie om Continuous Practices med fokus på Continuous Delivery / Software development using Continuous Delivery : A qualitative case study about Continuous Practices with focus on Continuous Delivery

Salomonsson Tigerström, Andreas, Algrim, Sebastian January 2018 (has links)
This thesis studies the conditions needed for implementing the software development method Continuous Delivery (CDE). The problem identified for the study, is that there is no standardized approach for CDE as of today. The intentions of the study were to determine whether this means that the method will have a shifting tenor within different companies, and if so, will these companies implement the method with different approaches. Another aspect was to determine which types of challenges the companies were faced with during the transition towards CDE. To review whether the challenges were foremost organisational or development related. And how the organisations handled the communication and trust towards the co-workers and the development work within the organisation during the change towards the method. To highlight these issues, we presented theories with focus on organisational and technical challenges with the different Continuous practices were made. The practices being: Continuous Integration (CI), Continuous Delivery (CDE) and Continuous Deployment (CD). The theory chapter and former studies also contains research about surrounding concepts such as DevOps and LEAN methods, which can aim to facilitate the implementation of CDE. The empirical data collection was performed using open individual interviews with informants from six different companies, where they shared their experience and views on the method CDE. The study demonstrates that the reason organisations chose to implement CDE, is that they want to transform from software development methods, which requires a lot of decision making for any change, to a more flexible work procedure, in order to experience benefits such as: better quality of what is delivered, faster deliveries of business value to the customers and faster feedback-loops. Organisations that make the transition towards CDE also tend not to automate all the way to production, as in agreement with CD, this because the organisations identify challenges with assuring that the quality is sufficient. The study has identified a number of factors that are essential for a successful implementation of CDE, along with factors that may result in a less successful implementation.

In recent decades, the biological view of disability has been expanded due to the inclusion of socio-anthropological aspects. In the case of the deaf, the need to have their story considered through this approach is relevant to the appropriate care by the Health Professionals. OBJECTIVE: to analyze the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) version of the WHOQOL-BREF instrument for assessing quality of life in focal groups. METHODS: transversal type descriptive and exploratory qualitative research using the technique of focal groups in three groups distributed as follows: 1) deaf people; 2) deaf people families; and 3) Libras interpreters. Two meetings were held with three focal groups. The first aimed to explain all the details of the research, delivery of a DVD, signing of the Term of Free and Informed Consent and application of a sociodemographic questionnaire. The second aimed to discuss and analyze the Libras version of the WHOQOL-BREF. Data were analyzed based on the technique of analysis of categorial and thematic content proposed by Bardin. RESULTS:100% of the participants of the three Focal Groups (GFs) understood and considered the questions relevant to the QOL of the deaf. In the category of suggestion, GF1 came with 76.94%, GF2 presented 65.39% and GF3 came with 73.08% of the questions that needed changes. CONCLUSIONS: the scarcity of scientific research on the use of focal groups with deaf people was considered a challenging factor. This study showed that the technique of focal groups with deaf people will have better success if it consists of a maximum of six members per group.
