Autentisering och Riskmedvetande : En studie om Lösenordshantering och Risktagande / Authentication and Risk Consciousness : A study on password management and risk taking

Håkansson, Daniel Clarke, Lundström, Markus January 2018 (has links)
After regular discussions about whether authentication with static passwords is a good approach, an idea emerged to investigate how people handle their authentication credentials. This report tackles the task of mapping weaknesses associated with authentication regarding the method, as well as human security awareness and risk taking. During the study, a survey was conducted in which 100 people completely responded, all with varying age and employment. We asked how they value, create, and manage their passwords. The respondents were also tasked to take a position on a number of allegations, regarding their security awareness and risk-taking in connection with authentication. The result of the study shows that the majority reuse passwords to a very high extent. It also appears that a large majority uses memorization as the maintechnique for password management. The result also shows that respondents to a great extent think the complexity of the password is more important than its length. In addition, only 22% of respondents felt unsafe with a password that is 8 characters long, which is a low percentage since 8 characters are too weak today.Though the subject is complex, a combination of length and complexity is desirable to create a strong password. In addition to that the passwords must be unique to each service. Using memorization as its main method is unfortunately not applicable in these cases. A better strategy is to use, for example, a password manager or to generate a memorandum chant. For example, take the first letter of each word in one sentence, My cat is called Glenn he has 3 legs White nose & Redlink which can result in McicGhh3lWn&Rl. A good start to improve one’s password management is to firstly evaluate authentication credentials as valuable, read upon the subject, and then develop a strategy that is appropriate to one’s needs.

Quelles cultures politiques pour les politiques culturelles ? : L’appropriation de la notion de culture par les élus municipaux : l'exemple du département du Rhône / What political culture for cultural policies ? : The appropriation of the notion of culture by elected city officials : the case of the department of the Rhône

Damestoy, Boris 19 May 2014 (has links)
For more than thirty years, cultural involvement by cities has developed constantly and has spread across the nation. Facilities and projects have multiplied and appropriate political delegations have been created regularly: culture is a sector that has widely benefitted from the dynamism driven by decentralization. At the same time, local political models have developed with the rise in power of “territory projects”, encompassing difference sectors including culture within an overall political framework. Although it can scarcely be found within these policies, an idea as large and polymorphic as “culture” has naturally changed form. From that moment, many questions arise. What space do collectivities make for the heritage of the French cultural policy “invented” in 1959? Between adhering to and opposing the national model, how are local cultural policies constructed? Finally, what does culture “do” for local elected official, who are usually far removed from political networks and cultural federations of elected officials and who can only rely on their experience and their territory to appropriate their delegation? This appropriation of the notion of culture is what this work will explore, using tools of the sociological corpus of the organizations. The narrative of elected officials of culture will be put into perspective along with the narrative of other cultural stakeholders, but also in the sociological corpus of culture in France, and more widely, in the notion of culture to be found in human science. This confrontation will aim at observing the process of “entering into culture” by local elected officials, the construction of convictions, political alignment of objectives and expected results, which are sometimes far from the most expected representations but which require the full attention of cultural stakeholders. Through situations and through these procedures, different facets of the notion of culture will appear and will help us, for lack of a single definition, observe what the notion of culture initiates in French local politics.

An examination of insolvency alternatives for corporate and non corporate entities in South Africa

Chiwete, Chinwe 13 September 2012 (has links)
The journey towards insolvency is often a gradual process, thus enabling a business or person in most circumstances to be aware of the danger ahead if adequate precautions are not taken. This position is recognized by the Statute, hence the definition given to a financially distressed company under the Companies Act1 to mean inability to pay all its debts within the immediately ensuring six months or the likelihood of going insolvent within the immediately ensuring six months. Rescue mechanisms are therefore aimed at ensuring that when faced with the signs of insolvency, a business for instance can be properly driven to become solvent again or at least restructured to achieve better realization of assets.2 Indeed, providing alternatives to insolvency is fast becoming a global trend as many countries now appreciate the need to give a person or business experiencing difficult times, the opportunity to rise again without necessarily going through the rigors of liquidation or sequestration. South Africa is not left out in the quest to assist over-indebted persons and provide them with alternative measures beside insolvency. The National Credit Act3 for instance seeks as one of its objectives to prevent over-indebtedness and where it occurs address same by means of debt rearrangement. This is in addition to certain provisions of the Magistrate CourtP a g e Act4 which allow a debtor the option of applying for an administration order and where granted make payment in instalments. The Companies Act also provides for business rescue as well as compromise between company and creditors.5 This research in brief analyses the above mentioned laws in South Africa that provide alternative measures for financially troubled or over-indebted debtors as applicable to corporate and non-corporate entities. The research considers whether these laws are sufficient to assist debtors in financial crisis, the effectiveness of these laws, challenges as well as loopholes taking into consideration what is applicable in other jurisdictions such as the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. The end of this research contains recommendations that would assist in achieving effective rescue mechanisms or alternatives to insolvency beneficial to both corporate and noncorporate entities in South African. Principles and Evolutions of a Social and Political Model

Blanc, Sandrine 04 January 2011 (has links)
In spite of a vast number of political studies on social democracy, little attention has been devoted to its underlying philosophical principles. This doctoral thesis sets out the philosophical distinctions which are crucial to understanding the social-democratic trajectory. It identifies two models through which social democracy can be interpreted, the first centred on the idea of political compromise and the second on liberal egalitarianism. The former echoes the historical development of social democracies. Social democratic parties diverged from Marxist orthodoxy whilst retaining the socialist principle of just appropriation. In this context, social democratic institutions took shape as social democrats compromised with capitalist interests. We suggest, in the second model, that the institutions born through this process are consistent with the Rawlsian perspective of justice as fairness, provided we expand its scope to corporate governance. These rival interpretations of social democracy differ in their conception of social justice and in their stance on the pluralism of conceptions of justice. Moreover, they provide distinct answers to the contemporary crisis of social democracy. The model based on compromise adapts its programme to a new balance of political power resulting from a renewed political sociology – the path followed by the New Labour. The liberal egalitarian model seeks instead to adapt those institutions that can restore support for the Rawlsian principles of justice. Ultimately, the tension between these two interpretations is one of the major questions social democrats need to address to clarify the model they want to put forward in the 21st Century.

The management of Human Resources in the implementation of Consórcio Modular: a case study of Volkswagen Truck & Bus plant in Resende, RJ / A gestão de recursos humanos na implementação do consórcio modular: um estudo de caso na planta Volkswagen de Resende, RJ

Wagner Belucci 29 April 2004 (has links)
The follow study analyses and identifies the strategies of human resources about the implementation of the productions concept called Modular Conception, in the Resendes trucks and buses plant. The general hypothesis is that both the management equity and the organizational justice were determinant in these strategies. So that was realized a literature revision involving the theories of motivation and organizational justice, associated to the compromisement of the employee. To comprove the studys main hypothesis was realized a survey of descriptive nature among the companies of the Modular Conception. The instrument of data collection was a questionnaire composed by twenty affirmations, with levels of disagreement and agreement. The main conclusions were the follow: the employees believe that the fact of the benefits and remuneration system are equal consolidate the sense of management equity; the organizational justice is one of the main points of the organization, since that the employees believe that they have an equal treatment to all, independent of social position, color, and credo. Besides the employees believe in the rules and procedures and, in case they came to be treated without justice, they will get justice through open channels in the organization. Analyzing the indicators of human resources verifies it that the absenteeism, turnover and workers lawsuits are the lowest of the Volkswagens group plant. All these factors converge to the most representatives answers of the employees: 80.9% are motivated to work in the company and 90.2% agree that the organization is a good place to work. Therefore, confirming the basic hypothesis rose: management equity and organizational justice lead the employees to have pleasure in belonging and not only being tied to the Modular Conception.

Looking for compromises between ecosystem services (timber production, carbone and biodiversity)

Piponiot, Camille 07 December 2018 (has links)
Half of the world's tropical forets are designated by national forest services as production forests. While here have been numerous studies on the impact if devorestation on carbon emissions and biodiversity loss in the tropics, the long-term impacts of selective logging are still poorly studied; However, the importance of these production forests is increasing. Not only must they meet the growing tropical timber demand, but their role in Carbon storage and the biodiversity conservation is increasingly recognized. The studies developped in this thesis are threefold. First, a carbon balance model of logging is developped, and regional differences in post-logging carbon recovery of timber volume on the Amazon, and thus the unsustainability of current logging practices. These models (carbon and timber) were developped on a Bayesian framework, with support and data from the Tropical managed Forest Observatory (TmFO : www.tmfo.org), a netword of 9 research institutions and more than 200 forest plotswhere post-logging forest dynamics have been monitored for <30 years in the Amazon. Finally, a comparative analysis of prospective scenarios was carried out, where potential tradeoffs between ecosystem services (timber, carbone and biodiversity) were explored using multi-criteria optimization analysis.

The “Dirty Hands Dilemma” in Politics : A Study on Political Ethics

Dhar, Siddhartha Kumar January 2022 (has links)
When faced with an emergency situation, politicians are often forced to sacrifice their core moral principles in order to better serve the immediate public interest. This is commonly described as the Dirty Hands dilemma. Dirty Hands theorists conditionally defend politicians, but they leave the dilemma under-defined. Realists think that politicians do not even need defence, but their approach is overly relativistic and fails to distinguish between moral and immoral exercises of political authority. The present study critically engages with both sides of the debate in two parts. First, I use the method of conceptual analysis — and specifically conceptual disambiguation — to find out how each side conceives of the nature of the Dirty Hands dilemma. I find that (1) the dilemma emerges when a politician is forced to disregard the core human rights of certain individuals or groups to safeguard similar rights of others, and (2) the Realists fail to distinguish the concept of Dirty Hands from the concept of Political Compromise and Dirty Hands dilemmas from ordinary moral dilemmas. Second, using the method of reflective equilibrium, I advance the normative judgement that, instead of expressing guilt and paying the price, politicians should commit to not making their actions easy precedents when they confront a Dirty Hands dilemma. This study offers a better theoretical understanding of the Dirty Hands dilemma and a practical approach to distinguishing between moral and immoral exercises of political authority.

Vilse, sårbar och bristfällig : Problematiserade subjekt i åtta samtida bilderböcker / Lost, Vulnerable and Deficient : Problematized Subject Positions in Eight Contemporary Picture Books

Nordgren, Sarah January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is to examine and problematize subject formation in relation to the materiality of picture books. A total of eight contemporary picture books are analyzed: Naturen by Emma AdBåge, Jag blir en bubbla som blir ett monster som blir ett barn by Malin Axelsson and Klara Persson, Gittan och gråvargarna by Pija Lindenbaum, I skogen and Olli och Mo by Eva Lindström, En egen flock by Maria Nilsson Thore, Om jag fötts till groda by Annika Sandelin and Karoliina Pertamo and Det var en gång en räv som sprang i mörkret by Anna-Clara and Thomas Tidholm. The questions to lead the analysis are: How are subjects created in the picture books and how does the position operate? How does the book’s materiality and form affect subject positions? How do subject formation and agency relate to each other? How do subjects relate to their surroundings? The text ”När du är bättre än vi – Jantelagen, skammen och barnlitteraturen” by Maria Jönsson is central to the study. Other important theoretical texts are Jenny Jarlsdotter Wikström’s dissertation Materiella vändningar – Läsningar av Parland, Lispector, Berg och Byggmästar, Maria Nikolajeva’s book Bilderbokens pusselbitar and Ulla Rhedin’s book Bilderboken – På väg mot en teori. The essay seeks theorethical and methodological support in Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick’s Touching Feeling – Affect, Pedagogy, Performativity and Karen Barad’s Meeting the Universe Halfway – Quantum Physics and the Entanglement of Matter and Meaning, since the analysis and method build on meaning as a material-discursive phenomenon and reading and knowledge as performative processes. Subject formation is analyzed in relation to narrativity, picture book form, meetings, compromise and power. The essay shows how subject formation is affected by material aspects such as the turning of pages, the use of pageturners, and composition and placement of text and picture. The analysis shows vulnerable, shifting and unstable subjects that problematize the idea of subjects as strong, individualized, intact and delimited. Barad’s concept of diffraction is fruitful for understanding meetings and connections built on deficiency and vulnerability. The essay shows the importance of analysing and problematizing subjects and connections through deficiency in contemporary picture books, because of the potential for challenging ideas of what a subject is and what it implies.

A Peculiar Place for the Peculiar Institution: Slavery and Sovereignty in Early Territorial Utah

Ricks, Nathaniel R. 03 July 2007 (has links) (PDF)
Between 1830 and 1844, the Mormons slightly shifted their position on African-American slavery, but maintained the middle ground on the issue overall. When Mormons began gathering to Utah in 1847, Southern converts brought their black slaves with them to the Great Basin. In 1852 the first Utah Territorial legislature passed “An Act in Relation to Service" that legalized slavery in Utah. This action was prompted primarily by the need to regulate slavery and contextualize its practice within the Mormon belief system. Ironically, had Congress known of Utah's slave population, it may have never granted Utah the power to legislate on slavery. During the debates over the Compromise of 1850, which series of acts created Utah Territory without restriction on slavery, Utah lobbyist John M. Bernhisel hid Utah slavery from members of Congress. Several years later, when Utah's laws were under review by Congressional committees, the public announcement of polygamy overshadowed information that betrayed slavery's practice in Utah. The fact that slavery's practice in Utah was never widely known, especially by members of Congress, delayed for nearly four years the final sectional crisis that would culminate in civil war. Utah may have been a peculiar place for the “peculiar institution" of slavery, but its legalization in the territory, and Congress' failure to acknowledge it, provide a compelling case study of popular sovereignty in action in the antebellum West.
