Läsundervisning- att följa en metod eller ej? : En jämförande studie om lärares val av metod i arbetet med den tidiga läsinlärningen / Teaching reading – to follow a method or not? : A comparative study of teachers’ choice of method in early literacy learning

Pettersson, Sofia January 2015 (has links)
This is a study of how four teachers work with pupils’ early literacy learning. Interviews were conducted with two teachers who chose to use a specific method, Writing to Read (WTR), for teaching pupils to read, and with two teachers who had not chosen a specific method. The aim of the study was to compare how the teachers worked, their motives for their choice of method, and the ideas the teachers have about early literacy learning. To see whether the teachers’ choice of method was related to the individualization of the teaching and their views of pupils’ learning in interaction, Vygotsky’s theories about children’s learning have been used. The result shows that there are both similarities and differences in the teachers’ reasons for their choice of method. Those who use WTR say that they do so to be able to individualize the teaching, while the teachers who do not use a specific method use the same arguments. There is a difference in whether the teachers aim for structured or unstructured teaching, regardless of the choice of method. Several parallels to Vygotsky’s theories were found, in that all four teachers, irrespective of method, think that their teaching should be characterized by interaction and individualization.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Adriana Pevarello Bacci.pdf: 1379041 bytes, checksum: 9171ff14fd37cc970b01890b08a21d5c (MD5) Previous issue date: 2010-10-29 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This thesis intends to study the Movimento Nossa São Paulo (MNSP), which was created in May 2007 and has the articulation among many social players as its peculiarity. The approach to such subject of study was made taking into account the concepts of civil society, social movements, networks, social control and articulating organizations as its theoretical bases. A short documental search about the MNSP was carried out, as well as a search on its internet platforms, where MNSP has a wide range of information about its main developed actions. The subjects of this research were assessed through qualitative methods, especially open-ended questions in semi-structured interviews which intended to supply tools to understand MNSP and the fields it mostly acts. This work found that MNSP is much more identified to the concept of network and articulating organization than to the one of social movement. This research also revealed that MNSP displays some level of social control, fact that was made explicit by its quest for participating in the management of public policies in the city of São Paulo / A presente dissertação de mestrado tem como objeto de estudo o Movimento Nossa São Paulo (MNSP), criado em maio de 2007, e que tem como particularidade a articulação entre diversos atores sociais.

Machado, Davi Marcos 26 May 2009 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-29T14:23:52Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Davi Marcos Machado.pdf: 448497 bytes, checksum: 9f7a19fb13d50b4a4a08e568c575dd89 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-05-26 / Ending of century XX and mainly from the beginning of the XXI century, the popularization of the Internet access and the emergence of software which provide friendly environment for the inter-relationship of people in virtual space (MySpace, Orkut, Blogspot etc), has made the cyberspace to be occupied by a huge number of people with more diverse interests, which resulted in the appearance of virtual communities or social networks. These communities or networks are organized around several themes and interests. May simply be groups of adolescents who have fun to exchange views on some prominent personality in the media to communities that discuss issues such as education, philosophy, public health or groups that develop a project of great social or economic relevance. The objective of this research is to evaluate, through empirical analysis, based on the available literature, the feasibility of classifying the millions of virtual communities or social networks in just three major groups: virtual communities or social networks organized around projects, people and ideas. We believe that these three major groups are able to include all types of social groups in cyberspace, considering that each one has its peculiarities of organization and structure. "Project means a temporary business or a complex sequence of activities to provide a product. For people we considered the charismatic individual, able to attract other individuals to their environment, either by their capacity for leadership or the ability to provide interest information to a group of people. Ideas is meant a concept, a set of thoughts of an individual or a social group on any one topic, theory, point of view or opinion. The purpose of this classification (projects, people and ideas) is to identify the different forms of grouping, outlining the main features of each of these groups, the structure of the environment in which it is organized and dynamic. These settings can help people, institutions or companies who wish to use the cyberspace how environment of knowledge generation or development of activities or simply exchange ideas. From the characteristics of each type of community is possible to define the best structure and environment to be built, considering the interests and goals of those who structure the community or the network / No final do século XX e no início do século XXI, a popularização do acesso a Internet e o surgimento de softwares amigáveis e ambientes propícios à inter-relação de pessoas no espaço virtual (MySpace, Orkut, Blogspot etc) fez com que o ciberespaço passasse a ser povoado por um número imenso de pessoas com os mais diversos interesses, que resultou no surgimento de comunidades virtuais ou de redes sociais.

Pretend Play at Home: Creating An Educationally Enriched Environment for Emergent Literacy Among Preschool-Aged Children

Anderson, Kelly King 15 July 2005 (has links)
This thesis will illustrate how pretend play can be used in the home for educational purposes. The major emphasis of the work will be emergent literacy, however, application principles can be applied in all subject areas. Parents who desire to expand their child's literacy skills while exposing the child to an arts enriched home environment need ideas and tools developed with supportive research to strengthen and focus their efforts. These tools will greatly expand parental resources by offering several principles as a guide for adapting existing classroom materials for home use. The following Seven Components form the core foundation for adapting pretend play materials to aid the home learning environment curricula: (1) Child as Active Participant (Vygotsky; Piaget). (2) Parent as Role Model for Dramatic Play and Literacy, serves as Facilitator, and Co-player (Haight and Miller; Vygotsky). (3) Physical environment could be anywhere: car, office, or bedroom. (4) Resource material: should be able to use common found objects in home, with limited preparations or expense. (5) Play Content needed to provide elements of literacy: cognitive learning, symbol representation, oral language, self-expression, listening and comprehension (Goodman). (6) Promote creative and fun learning experience with a relaxed, informal atmosphere. (7) Play should be process and discovery oriented, and not for performance (Brown and Pleydell; Tuge). This thesis will also examine the preliminary results of a study for parents and children who applied a curriculum developed with the core components and explored the participants' interest level in such activities. Recommendations for further research will also be made.

TWO CULTURES, ONE IDENTITY: BICULTURALISM OF YOUNG MEXICAN AMERICANS

Salazar, Janela Aida 01 January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to explore the daily life of the younger generation of Mexican Americans through a phenomenology design. Specifically, in regard to how the culture-sharing pattern of biculturalism is reflected in their lives and the way they construct their bicultural identity. The study utilized rich qualitative data to paint a clear and descriptive picture of the internal process of biculturalism within eight Mexican American college students. Ultimately, the data analysis aimed to collect and reflect their voices and the stories. This was done through three distinct data methods that complemented each other: interviews (oral), photo elicitation (visual), and document analysis (written). Results indicate that, the way bicultural individuals organize and respond to their culture in terms of behavior and cognition, is independent from the feelings they experience while engaging in cultural frame switching. No matter how well the participants are able to organize their dual cultures and compartmentalize them in their life, they still struggle with conflicting and opposing feelings. Nonetheless, even though their cultures and ideologies can clash at times and feel contradictory, this young generation can still manage to respond and function in both cultures, but to varying degrees.

Basque, Gérard 12 1900 (has links)
While a growing number of Anglo-Saxons evangelicals theologians define themselves as postmodernists, this Master thesis`s first aim is to understand what this means concretely. We will achieve this through the study one of the main reference books on the matter. We put forward that these postmodern theologians are developing a theology in opposition to the fondationalist theology. They also tend to oppose modernity’s absolute assumptions with postmodernism’s relativism. Yet, they argue in favor of a moderate relativism. This theological turn has concrete implication in regards to ecclesial practice, especially within emergent churches. However, these new trends of thoughts and practices are highly criticized by other evangelical theologians, bent on preserving the absolutes inherited from Cartesians, as well as consolidated ecclesial tradition. This Master’s thesis second aim is thus to study and to resume criticism emanating from these other theologians. Since this research is developed within Quebec’s context, we have also delved into Quebec’s evangelical theologians take on postmodernism. This constitutes the third element of this Master’s thesis. From this literature we chose to resume one article that stemmed from a conference presented at a 2007 Montreal convention on emergent churches. We also conducted interviews to understand the ecclesial practices related to emergent churches in the Quebec context. The first interview has been conducted with a Quebec evangelical theologian who has adopted postmodernism. The second interview has been conducted with a small group of members of an emergent church. To conclude, we make a final analysis of the literature brought to bear in this Master’s thesis, and we make our own contribution in favor of a postmodern evangelical theology and postmodern ecclesial practices in Quebec’s context.

LEARNING TO RETELL STORIES THROUGH COMPARATIVE TEACHING: WRITING AND DRAWING

Lindle, Rachel L 01 January 2014 (has links)
Students who are emergent readers and writers are often difficult to assess, as they are unable to communicate understanding in writing. From my observations, these students communicate ideas best through concrete forms of expression, rather than the abstract formation of letters and writing that is unfamiliar to them. Drawing provides an alternate form of expression from writing. Based on information found in literature review and personal experiences from working with students who are emergent readers and writers, pictures and drawings are a bridge to communicate ideas with these students. This form of expression and communication may be a useful assessment tool for students at this developmental stage. The purpose of this research study is to test the hypothesis that retelling using visual art representations of the story will yield positive results.

Rodrigues, Lúcia Helena Ribeiro January 2009 (has links)
Biological communities change in time and space following driving pressures from differences in habitat structure and resource availability. Understanding the ecological role and interactions within aquatic community is essential for any management action trying to improve water quality by interferences in lake food web, ecosystem dynamics and modeling. The present study was carried out in two freshwater systems in Southern Brazil: an irrigated rice field and in a large shallow system, Mangueira Lake. The goal of this study in temporary wetlands was to evaluate the plankton and fish dynamics during a productive cycle. Our results evidenced a temporal gradient by nutrients availability in the temporary wetland studied. However, the limnological variables did not display any horizontal pattern among sampling stations. Linear regression showed a positive relationship between chlorophyll a and nutrients, zooplankton biomass and copepod biomass. In contrast, fish biomass and planktivorous fish biomass were inversely related to chlorophyll a. Statistically significant relationships between DOC with nutrients, plankton and fish biomass were also identified during the rice production cycle. In Mangueira Lake, a shallow system (zmed 3m) and 90 km long, the goal was to evaluate the spatial and temporal distribution of plankton and fish biomass as a function of the presence of the emergent macrophytes Zizaniopsis bonariensis. We also analyzed the existence of longitudinal gradient in lake and the food web structure in system. The PCA and RDA analyses showed the temporal (seasonal) and spatial (North/South) gradient during the study. Analysis of similarity (ANOSIM) applied to environmental variables showed significant differences between sampling sites (North and South). Secchi transparency, DOC and chlorophyll a were significantly different in North and South sampling sites. ANOVA results showed that season effects are stronger in the Northern sampling site. Concerning the community structure in the Mangueira Lake, bacterioplankton biomass, chlorophyll a, zooplankton biomass and fish captures were different seasonally after extracting the habitat structure effect, while in the Southern sampling site only chlorophyll a presented a seasonal significant variation. Habitat structure (by Z. bonariensis stands and open water samples) induced significant differences in chlorophyll a both in North and South samples after extracting seasonal effect. Fish captures do also responded to habitat structure in the North, after extracting the season effect. Analysis of similarity (ANOSIM) applied to fish community also showed significant differences between North and South, although no significant differences between vegetated and open water zones was observed. Fish biomass, number of captures, and richness were different between sampling sites. Based on the δ13C and δ15N ratios and analysis of stomach content of fish species, we provide also a description of food web structure, trophic positions of fish species and primary producers of system. Analysis of nitrogen isotope ratios yielded two fish trophic levels in Mangueira Lake. Emergent macrophytes and periphyton were important carbon source that sustain the food web structure of the system. Cluster analysis of δ13C and δ15N values and stomach content yielded a perfect phylogenetic arrangement of species. This result reflects that major feeding niches are shared by taxonomically related species. The feeding dynamics of the dominant fish species, Oligosarcus jenynsii was analysed by using analyses of stomach contents and stable isotopes signature. Seasonal and ontogenetic change in the feeding biology of O. jenynsii was identified, showing the high feeding plasticity, in addition to an opportunistic strategy of this generalist carnivore species. This study allows identifying a large spatial heterogeneity and clear longitudinal gradient both in biotic and abiotic factors, reflecting fish and plankton distribution and abundance. The evaluated parameters are intended to feed a mathematical model for the Mangueira Lake, looking for predictable scenarios from natural and anthropogenic stressors.
