Spohr, Fúlvia da Silva January 2015 (has links)
This study approaches the technology insertion issue in a public school of basic education from the perspective of the modulation relation of this socio-technical network that includes cognition, technical objects and the institution, as a result of a resolution of a problematic transaction that it updates. Therefore, the distribution process of portable computers (netbooks) to a school community in an elementary school was accompanied, observing some of the ethical, aesthetic and politicians effects which emerged from the meeting of the individuals with technology. From the cartographic method we evidenced which were the effects that took place at the meeting of the school community with the digital technology originated from the implications of different public policies that agencied constituted the establishment of the insertion of a technological project. Thus, we observed that modulation of a network that includes among other implications, the public policies on education, the power of indeterminacy of a digital technology and the individuals in a concrete and embodied cognition conception, occurs when, in this agency are produced new ways of making, in which knowledge and reality appear inseparable. In the context of this research, this inseparability, occurs when technology is moved from an instrumental and utilitarian perspective to a position of ethical action and authoring. So, to put in debate, some resolutions which the individuals were finding from their embodied and located experience, we noted the encouraging of teaching and learning practices, which allowed the allocation of new senses to the making process of faculty and students. We emphasize that resignification of reality, allowed to retain a recognitive policy and also generate new ways of knowing in a politics of invention, redefining some limits of this network on individual, technical and institutional plans.

The Evolution of the Computation Project for an Artificial Intelligence and the new Perspectives Offered by the Advances of the Enactive Cognition / A evoluÃÃo do projeto computacional para uma inteligÃncia artificial e as novas perspectivas oferecidas pelos avanÃos da cogniÃÃo enativa.

Carlos Roberto Rodrigues Filho 30 November 2012 (has links)
The development in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) field brought great improvement to the resolution of computationally hard problems. However, the early goal of AI, of implementing a genuine intelligence in an artificial way, was not achieved. Therefore most of the fieldâs researchers changed their researchâs focus to problem resolution, quitting the goal of an artificial intelligence. To keep pursuing that goal others researchers started questioning the philosophical principles of AI and they took new routes. Some of them realized that the process of intelligence is not purely mental. According to this new view the body has a fundamental role in the cognitive process. From this point of view, aiming to overcome traditional obstacles of AI, the Embodied AI emerged. It has a strong tendency to implementation in robots, to develop a better design of the body. Despite having achieved improvements over the problem of traditional AI, Embodied AI started to present its own limitations. Then came the idea that a genuinely intelligent agent must formulate its own problems from the perception of reality, constructed in terms of their sensory-motor apparatus. In other words, the genuine intelligence is linked to the agentâs autonomy. The Enactive AI appeared influenced by biological studies about autonomy. In this AI field the goal is to build an autonomous artificial agent. This paper reports the trajectory of AI since its foundation, through strand of Embodied AI, and pointing to a possible new paradigm of Enactive AI. In addition, we analyse and discuss the processes that led researchers to question the philosophical basis of IA and formulate new concepts about what intelligence is.

Analyse énactive de l'activité en trail et ultra-trail : une approche multi-sourcing / Enactive analysis of activity in trail and ultra-trail running : a multi-sourcing approach

Rochat, Nadège 20 November 2017 (has links)
Rooted in the enaction paradigm (Varela et al., 1993), the aim of this thesis was to analyse the activity in trail and ultra-trail running. A multi-sourcing observatory was constructed to conduct our analyses. It was composed of forum discussions posted on the community website of the Raidlight brand, races narratives posted on blogs, enactive interviews and third-person data characterising the vertical oscillations of both the runners and their carrying systems. The results of the discussion forums showed that trail runners share common concerns regarding health and training issues. The results of the blog narratives and enactive interviews analyses characterised trail runners’ activity in race situation, by reporting (a) phenomenological gestalts, which temporal layout identified activity profiles, (b) vitality states, which repartition and temporal organisation differed in finishers and withdrawers and (c) seven key-stages involved in withdrawals. The results of analyses of the use of equipment showed that the sensations of bouncing reported by runners were confirmed by the behavioural data. Taken together, these results suggested that trail runners’ activity can be characterised by different data sources, reporting the various meaningful experiences that trail runners enact in situation. They provide practical and transformative implications for the proposition of an intervention model in sport psychology as well as a proposition of a multi-sourcing conception model for companies, which seek to integrate users in their conception processes.

Expérience de visite et construction des connaissances : le cas des musées de sciences et des centres de culture scientifique / The experience of the visit and construction of knowledge : the case of science museums and scientific cultural centers

Schmitt, Daniel 05 December 2012 (has links)
Can we grasp, understand and describe the experience of museum visitors? This study focuses on the visitor experience from an enactive perspective, i.e., that which makes sense from the point of view of visitors during their visit. The main results concern the method of investigation, which is innovative in the field of museum studies and provides a new perspective on the experience of visitors in museums. The thesis shows that an analysis of the visitor’s “course of experience” carried out by means of a subjective re situ interview allows us to describe and understand the basic units of the visitors’ experiences as well as the overall experience of the visit with precision, finesse, and depth. The actions and cognitive paths of visitors, which contribute to the construction of the knowledge, are also highlighted and we offer standard courses of experience during museum visits, which repeatedly contribute to the construction of knowledge.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Beatriz de Almeida Pacheco.pdf: 5804317 bytes, checksum: 1c55c0fe5bb047261312a4e986f7cbde (MD5) Previous issue date: 2013-05-13 / This research discusses the issue of the experiences offered by digital devices from its interfaces and interactions in the context of ICTs, and aims to answer the following question: is it possible to create a set of heuristics based on externalist theories of philosophy of mind (Embodiment and Enaction) that contributes to the Interaction Design area development. As a hypothesis, I work toward a positive answer to the presented question, whereas from these interactions each person sets a differentiated cognitive and learning relationship, which makes his cognitive channels more complex. With the daily unique products launch and complex behavior, due to the technology advancement, people have to deal with new codes, which need some kind of learning. Considering a world increasingly represented by images, the visibility provided by machines becomes extremely important to construct reality, especially in Western cities and developed regions. This is replaced by a value of reality, since it is less susceptible to the subjectivity of the human eye. It points to the important connections between the individual experiences and their links to his repertoire acquired throughout life as a key to the process of knowledge construction. Finally it indicates that digital devices, while providing multichannel and multisensory interaction ends up favoring the establishment of such relations. Thus, part of the concept of experience (Varela and Maturana -‐ the new look at our bodies able to see both physical structures and lived experiential structures) transits through its unique characteristics of, individuality and cognitive plurality. Secondly discusses the interaction between men and computers from their development paradigms: presents the area development in the facer of its history and introduces the art state of the projected area, instinctively or intentionally, experiences create knowledge. It deals, afterwards, with the communication and the communicative processes mediated by digital devices, discusses the design of their interfaces and the interactive possibilities in the light of the Interaction Design (Preece et al), Human Machine Interaction (Benyon) and Design of Experiment (Shedroff) -‐ which increasingly consider the user as the center of the design process and the construction.

Lopes, Graziela Pereira January 2009 (has links)
The use of chemical substances has been reported in different cultures and historical periods. However, the types of substances used, the social context, the consumption practices and what is considered excessive, as well as control practices and means of intervention present specificities. Nowadays, we face the fact that the use considered abusive may be characterized as a disease (dependence). There is a structure of powers (Health Ministry and Public Ministry) and knowledge (medical, legal, psychological, religious, etc.) proposing institutions and treatment models concerning subjects who live under such conditions. Through the insertion in one of such treatment institutions for chemical dependents and through the analysis of the subjectivation forms and of the cognitive policies, we propose an interventionresearch, aiming to enable the assignment of the inventive/enactive cognition. Adopting the inventive/enactive cognition as a perspective implies to establish another knowledge relation based on the production of oneself (autopoiesis) and on what we take as reality in distinct conversation networks. Thus, the mask workshops rise as a proposal of intervention-research that have as their aim to map and follow the cognitive movements emerging from them, inserted on the institutional placement of a service for chemical substance dependents. Our study focuses on the means by which the users of this health service that take part on the mask production workshop (intervention) lay questions and share emotions - considered relevant by them - concerning personal and institutional experiences, as well as the experiences regarding technologies. Yet, we pursue to evaluate the effects of the emergency of enactive cognition policies in a predominantly recognitive therapeutic context. Regarding the analysis of the workshops, we take the concept of enactive cognition as a methodological tool that potentializes the distinction of moments in a productionconversation network in which there is an expression through the language that vitalizes unusual coordination of actions in the history of this group and an emotional stimulation in which the experience of the other ones may be accepted as legitimate.

Co-Speech Gesture in Communication and Cognition

Cuffari, Elena Clare 12 1900 (has links)
xv, 256 p. : ill. / This dissertation stages a reciprocal critique between traditional and marginal philosophical approaches to language on the one hand and interdisciplinary studies of speech-accompanying hand gestures on the other. Gesturing with the hands while speaking is a ubiquitous, cross-cultural human practice. Yet this practice is complex, varied, conventional, nonconventional, and above all under-theorized. In light of the theoretical and empirical treatments of language and gesture that I engage in, I argue that the hand gestures that spontaneously accompany speech are a part of language; more specifically, they are enactments of linguistic meaning. They are simultaneously (acts of) cognition and communication. Human communication and cognition are what they are in part because of this practice of gesturing. This argument has profound implications for philosophy, for gesture studies, and for interdisciplinary work to come. As further, strong proof of the pervasively embodied way that humans make meaning in language, reflection on gestural phenomena calls for a complete re-orientation in traditional analytic philosophy of language. Yet philosophical awareness of intersubjectivity and normativity as conditions of meaning achievement is well-deployed in elaborating and refining the minimal theoretical apparatus of present-day gesture studies. Triangulating between the most social, communicative philosophies of meaning and the most nuanced, reflective treatments of co-speech hand gesture, I articulate a new construal of language as embodied, world-embedded, intersubjectively normative, dynamic, multi-modal enacting of appropriative disclosure. Spontaneous co-speech gestures, while being indeed spontaneous, are nonetheless informed in various ways by conventions that they appropriate and deploy. Through this appropriation and deployment speakers enact, rather than represent, meaning, and they do so in various linguistic modalities. Seen thusly, gestures provide philosophers with a unique new perspective on the paradoxical determined-yet-free nature of all human meaning. / Committee in charge: Mark Johnson, Chairperson; Ted Toadvine, Member; Naomi Zack, Member; Eric Pederson, Outside Member
