Jaenisch, Samuel Thomas January 2011 (has links)
In the last three decades Porto Alegre city center passed for important transformations that modified the use of its spaces, the profile of people that frequent it, and the relation kept between it and other parts of the city. The residential, professional, commercial and leisure activities associated with high classes had gradually leave the region in favor of new emergent quarters in the city, opening space for the development of an ample universe of economic activities associate to the lower classes that had passed to assume of the region with more intensity. The evangelical presence is part of this process and it will be used to explore it. Historically associated in Brazil with the poor people that live in outlying areas, it’s more and more intense presence in the city center appears as a pertinent phenomenon to evaluate the contemporaries dynamic of the e region its transformations.

In pursuit of an alternative to the public diffusion of the Reformed Christian faith, limited by the officialdom of the Catholic Church, the Presbyterian missionaries founded the Evangelical Press Newspaper (1864-1892), the first Protestant newspaper in circulation in Brazil. With the first essay located in the city of Rio de Janeiro, under the leadership of Presbyterian pioneer Ashbel Green Simonton, the newspaper extended its reach to the places where Presbyterianism founded its missions. It had as main axis of distribution the province of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Minas Gerais. The writing ranged between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. In order to understand the historical aspects of religious hope in the formation of the Presbyterian Church in Brazil, we will investigate how the Evangelical Press Journal presented the metaphorical concept of the "Kingdom of God" to its readers. For this, we will consider the roles attributed to God and man, the State and the Church, the individual and the family in the process of expansion of the “Kingdom of God” and the progress in the Brazilian Empire and in the following wars: Secession, Paraguay and the Italian Risorgimento.

This study investigated how the television, the television journalism particularly, participate in processes of construction of evangelical identity and how that representation is perceived by groups of Baptists and Methodists, who reside in a city in Minas Gerais (Cataguases). An analysis was made – in light of Cultural Studies, Symbolic Interactionism and taking the methodology of the French Discourse Analysis and TV News dramaturgy of the Journalism – of the newscast speeches about evangelicals and their representation in the Jornal Nacional and the Journal of Record, checking how they gave, through focus groups, the self-perception of evangelical groups in the face of these representations. The study asked by the possibility of establishing identity references in these TV news, by alterity and identity marks, considering, among other factors, the institutional and historical ties of broadcasters with specific segments of religion (such as the Journal of Record, attached to the Church Universal Kingdom of God through their shareholders). An important gap in this research is the fact it did the analysis along with people linked to Historic Protestantism (Baptists and Methodists), since the majority of contemporary studies on media and religion comprises mainly the socalled neo-pentecostal, with main focus on the Universal Church Kingdom of God and the like.

The present research deals with the discussion about Christian religiosity in prison, as a possibility of guiding discourse of individual and collective conduct. The presence of religious of Christian confessions in penal institutions demonstrates the importance of this segment in the social dynamics of prison and clearly evidences the differences between the behavior of non-religious detainees and those who profess Christian religiosity, especially evangelical. In this sense, the research, carried out at Professor Ariovasdo de Campos Pires Penitentiary, in Juiz de Fora, deals with the specificities of the conduct adopted by detainees converted to evangelical religiosity, its influence on the social dynamics of the prison and the daily life of the relationships that are developed there. For this purpose, I use two main concepts: that of "proceeding" - which designates a complex number of rules created by and followed or not by detainees - as elaborated by Marques (2009) - and that of "religious conversion", used in the sense of worldview change of the faithful. I observed that, from the conversion, the detainee would go through a subjective moral reform that reflects in his interaction with the collective and, thus, would follow up Christian precepts and values in form of a morally acceptable conduct, resulting in "evangelical conduct", in other words, a kind of code of conduct followed by religious prisoners. Detainees who adhere to such "proceeding" are subjected to intense vigilance (both by detainees themselves and by officials in general) as a way of testing their faith, so that they cannot commit any contravention, which leads us to a comprehension that there is a certain notion of religious morality that guides both those who watch and those who are watched. Thus, religious "proceeding" would consist of a practice or conduct that is oriented by morality – Christian word. The research was carried out at Professor Ariosvaldo de Campos Pires Penitentiary, Juiz de Fora.

Práticas musicais cotidianas na cultura gospel: um estudo de caso no Ministério de Louvor Somos Igreja / Everyday musical practices in gospel culture: case study on the Praise Ministry Somos Igreja

Reck, André Müller 25 March 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this research is to analyze the musical practices, focusing the musical-pedagogic processes and construction of musical identities which occur in the praise group Somos Igreja , in the evangelical community Igreja em Cruz Alta RS , this research intends to comprehend how these practices are produced in the evangelical context and how they are experienced and (re)signified from a gospel musical culture. The increase of adepts in Brazil and the emergence of new evangelical denominations, mainly neopentecostals, has been inspiring several analysis of the gospel development, concerning the tension between traditional and contemporaneous, through a net of social relationships that moves around a complex trade, entertainment and media system. Music has always been present in evangelical cults, in many ways and contexts. Since the ending of the XX Century, however, it started to be remarkable modified in its manners of production, conception and distribution. Musical Education, as an area which articulates together with other fields of knowledge, as Sociology, Anthropology and Ethnomusicology, has as its purpose the study of pedagogical and musical processes to debate possibilities of a plural education. Therefore, pointing out the subjects socio-cultural context, their musical identity constructions and their everyday experiences. Thus, researches on musical education developed in different places and contexts of society have contributed to spread the speech of Musical Education, amplifying pedagogical conceptions and educational methods. This idea has made possible to reflect about contemporaneous musical educational practices, enlarging the understanding of musical experiences and the processes of meaning construction. From an interpretative perspective of the gospel musical scenery, methodologically developed through a case study, this work intends to discuss the theme and to announce some questions referring to musical education, everyday musical practices and religious meanings as well.

Youth ministry and leadership in the world evangelical mission international (South Africa) : an inclusive ministry approach

Yi, Hyunok January 2013 (has links)
This dissertation begins with the problem that local church leaders, Sunday school teachers and adult youth leaders do not have a holistic understanding of what youth ministry is or how to start with youth ministry. And there is a wide gap between adults and the youth because they do not have enough information about today’s youth. Youth ministry has been viewed as something separate from the main church. But the inclusive congregational approach is that youth ministry is part of a comprehensive congregational ministry with a differentiated and focused way, to, with and through youth as an integral part of the church. This dissertation looks into the literature on theories of child development, today’s youth, family, mentoring, and confirmation to understand youth in the church. Church leaders and teachers need enough information about the youth and must be aware of the youth’s developmental needs. Especially church leaders and teachers must work with the parents of the youth to focus on strong Christian education to connect the generations. They have to respond to the youth’s crucial questions and issues of today. Then the youth can find what God intends them to become. This research focused on 73 church leaders and teachers in 11 WEMI (World Evangelical Mission International) churches in South Africa. A high percentage of the respondents understood the concept of youth ministry. But their main problem or difficulty remained the lack of training to understand youth and the biblical text. The results of empirical research presented the actual condition of youth ministry in WEMI churches in South Africa. The churches have to prepare intentional and strategic training for teachers to get enough information about today’s youth, teaching and communication skill, leadership development, counselling and knowledge of the Bible. When the church leaders and teachers are equipped and trained for God’s work, the youth ministry will be built up strongly in the local church, and the youth will find themselves as the body of Christ. / Dissertation (MA Theol)--University of Pretoria, 2013. / gm2014 / Practical Theology / unrestricted

Bringing Gender Sensitive Teaching into the Classroom: Tapping into the Aspirations and Abilities of Evangelical College Aged Women

Hall, Melissa 12 April 2019 (has links)
Evangelical women pursing Higher Education often experience a unique tension between their personal aspirations and gender role ideology. Understanding the gender climate in in the evangelical community and its impact on female students is pivotal to effectively preparing and teaching evangelical females. In this presentation I describe how I use transformational learning theory and concepts from drawn from gender sensitive mentoring to foster leadership development in evangelical women pursing higher education. Vignettes based on student experiences are used to illustrate the tension of personal aspirations and gender role ideology that evangelical women experience when pursuing their undergraduate degree. I suggest that gender sensitive teaching is needed to appropriately prepare evangelical women to pursue both their professional and personal priorities. This presentation provides participants with examples of teaching methods, activities, and assignments used in the classroom to help women navigate the gendered messages they receive regarding their personal and professional aspirations.

Právní řád Českobratrské církve evangelické - dějiny a současnost / The Legal Order of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren - History and Present

Csukás, Adam January 2021 (has links)
The Legal Order of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren - History and Present The aim of this thesis is to gather available sources concerning the legal order of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren (ECCB) since its establishment in 1918 to the present day. The sources used address the legal history of the Protestant Church in Cisleithania from 1848 until the end of World War I. A critical analysis of the sources is carried out to document the development of the church constitution and the orders of the ECCB. The criteria for the elaboration of individual storylines are primarily the historical relevance and the practical applicability of the information regarding the ECCB Strategic Plan of 2019. The thesis consists of an introduction, followed by three parts, and a conclusion. The first part, (1848-1922), comprises four chapters covering the legal history of the Protestant Church in Cisleithania from the revolutionary years 1848/1849 until the dissolution of Austria-Hungary and the establishment of both Czechoslovakia and the ECCB. Particular attention is given to the circumstances surrounding the creation of the church constitution of 1861, the constitutional reform efforts of the Czech-speaking Czech and Moravian Protestants of both confessions (Augsburg and Helvetic), the movement of...

A new case for female elders : an analytical reformed-evangelical approach

Hübner, Jamin Andrew 11 1900 (has links)
This study is the product of research in the field of systematic theology, particularly the subject of women in ministry. The goal was to provide, given the scope and limits of the study, the most persuasive case for women elders (or “pastors”) from a Reformed-Evangelical approach to date. The primary means of accomplishing this goal is by making an analytically constructed argument that is both exegetically and theologically sound. The introduction outlines the study’s basic objectives, structure, research methods, assumptions, and overall direction. Two gives a detailed literature review of major publications on the subject of women ministry in order to track the movement of the debate. Three explores theological methods that addresses theological loci, the role of hermeneutics, and the theological-analytical structure and content of Reformed-Evangelical arguments for women elders. Chapter Four explores conceptual framework, which frames the specific, contemporary debate over women elders in Reformed-Evangelical circles, and then addresses the insights and challenges of feminist theology and Roman Catholic theology. The heart of the study is captured in three main chapters that present a case for women elders in the church. The first argument provides a detailed examination of the “prohibition passages” in the New Testament and concludes that they do not prohibit women from being elders. The second argument provides a sweeping account of the proclamation of the gospel in New Testament theology, and affirms that anti-women-elder readings and attitudes simply do not conform to the actions, attitudes, and teachings of the early church regarding gender and gospel-proclamation. Finally, the third section provides three additional arguments in favor of women elders. The first argument addresses the nature of hermeneutics and application of specific interpretations, the second addresses the nature of marriage and its relationship to church leadership, and the third deals with functions of women in NT ministry. The research concludes with Chapter Eight, which summarizes the argument and introduces practical ramifications if the study’s premises and conclusions are true. / Philosophy and Systematic Theology / D. The Politics of Anti-Gender Campaigns: An Analysis of Congressional Debates In Peru Regarding the Educational Curriculum Reform

Arellano Salazar, Andrea 14 January 2022 (has links)
Through the lens of analyses of populist mobilizations informed by political sociology, this study offers a new perspective on tactics used by anti-gender campaigns. Specifically examining the Education Curriculum and the Enfoque de Igualdad de Género [Gender Equality Approach] in congressional debates in Peru in 2018 and 2019, this study uses a qualitative content analysis to identify central themes. The themes reveal tactics that sabotage feminist gains in educational reforms, spearheaded by Christian political actors. The argument is thus that Christian political actors use tactics such as coopting feminist concepts such as “gender” and re-framing it as “gender ideology”. This is an example of using “emotional epistemic loops” of information to achieve political goals, in this case advancing patriarchal Christian values and undermining feminist and gender equality gains.
