Hector, Annika January 2021 (has links)

: A mixed methods analysis of how George Floyd and ”us and them” are represented and constructed in Twitter comments

Salomonsson, Herman, Harrysson, Linnéa January 2021 (has links)
This study examines the user comments left on Twitter posts surrounding the murder of George Floyd, by the two biggest evening papers in Sweden. George Floyd was killed on the 25th of May 2020 during an arrest by Minneapolis police, which sparked outrage across the globe. People took to the streets to protest against police brutality and racial injustice, but thorough discussion also took place on social media and most notably, Twitter. Former research expresses a big interest in studying the public discourse tied to these topics, as it reflects public opinion. This study uses a mixed methods analysis, which includes a quantitative content analysis and a qualitative text analysis. The material studied are comments left on Aftonbladet- and Expressen’s Twitter posts from the day George Floyd was killed until a week after the police officer who was responsible was found guilty, almost a full year later. The purpose with this study was to deduce how the comments represented George Floyd, and how “Us” and “Them” were constructed. The study also aimed to find out which deliberative or non-deliberative qualities appear in the comments, and which of them generated the most attention. This was achieved with the theoretical basis of Critical Race Theory, Deliberative Democracy and Othering. The results show that George Floyd is mainly represented as a criminal, and that the comments constructed a strict “Us” and an even stricter “The Others”. The comments contained many non-deliberative qualities, and these were the ones who gained the most traction.

Autoscopy

Gershberg, Alexander 07 May 2024 (has links)
Autoscopy is a poetry collection that constellates together the speaker's ancestral experience of Jewish diaspora and genocide, the ongoing oppression and genocide of Palestinians, and the anti-Black racism that led to the police-murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis. In all, the speaker is at once close and far from what they witness, both personally impacted and implicated by their witnessing. In documentary, translation, prayer, elegiac, confessional, and experimental modes, these poems locate the possibility and need for a reimagined mode of kinship, using diasporic and queer desire as a means of reparation. / Master of Fine Arts / Autoscopy is a poetry collection.

Silences et dissidences dans les journaux de l'expédition Lewis et Clark / Silence and Dissidence in the Lewis & Clark Expedition Journals

Atem, Florent 22 May 2015 (has links)
This study, entitled “Silence and Dissidence in the Lewis & Clark Expedition Journals,” focuses on the voyage of discovery under the command of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, and draws upon a body of recently published texts. Reassessing the official voice of the Jeffersonian discourse, embodied by the captains in charge of a mission with geopolitical, economic and scientific purposes, our research aims at shedding new light on the writings of the Corps of Discovery, in an attempt to rehabilitate the somewhat neglected voices of the sergeants and soldiers of the group, often deemed secondary but actually indicative of alternate vantage points, allowing for new historiographical perspectives. This new reading of a critical episode in the history of the North American continent, as well as its people, will endeavour to show that, beyond the leaders’ reports, it is only through the symphony of intertwining “official” and “dissenting” voices that true relevance and accuracy may be achieved in the final synthetic narrative. More than two centuries after the transcontinental journey of the party led by Lewis and Clark, this study will aim at systematically interconnecting the whole set of manuscripts devoted to the narration of the voyage, for a better and renovated approach of these precious primary sources. This analysis is linked to the broader framework of the Jeffersonian policy, the main aspects of which shall first be presented, in order to fully grasp the exceptional nature of a profoundly “American” epic, through the prism of the various testimonies.

Teorie grafů - implementace vybraných problémů / Graph theory - implementation of selected problems

Stráník, František January 2009 (has links)
This work is intended on identification with basic problems from the graphs theory area. There are the basic conceptions as well more complicated problems described. The one part of this work is specialized in working of individual types of graphs. It starts with single linked list through double linked list after as much as trees which represented the simplest graphs textures. The other part of this work devotes to the whole graph and describes more complicated problems and their resolution from the theory graphs area. Among these problems belongs to searching in graphs help by Depth First Search and Breadth First Search methods. Then searching the shortest way help by the specific algorithms as are: Dijkstra´s algorithm, Floyd-Warshall´s algorithm and Bellman-Ford´s algorithm. The last part is devoted to problems with searching minimal frames of graphs with usage Kruskal´s algorithm, Jarnik´s algorithm and Boruvka´s algorithm methods.

Translational Wit: Seventeenth-Century Literary Translations of Selections from Ovid’s Heroides

Levenson, Sean I. 05 May 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to uncover the meaning of the difference between original versions and translations of two texts from Publius Ovidius Naso's Heroides, "Phyllis to Demophoon" and "Phaedra to Hippolytus." The first chapter describes John Dryden's system of translational practices and some theoretical issues surrounding literary translation and its critical interpretation. Even though translations have connections to the source text to some degree, each product of translation is a literary artifact on its own. The second chapter uses three translations of "Phyllis to Demophoon" by respectively Wye Saltonstall, Edward Pooley, and Edward Floyd as case studies demonstrating the variety of literary works that can originate from a single source text. The third chapter interprets Thomas Otway's translation of "Phaedra to Hippolytus" against Ovid's original in order to reveal the extensive presence of a certain characteristic irony in Otway's text. Otway also effectively translates Ovid's witty subtext.

Nejkratší cesty v grafu / Shortest Paths in a Graph

Krauter, Michal January 2009 (has links)
This thesis deals with shortest paths problem in graphs. Shortest paths problem is the basic issue of graph theory with many pracitcal applications. We can divide this problem into two following generalizations: single-source shortest path problem and all-pairs shortest paths problem. This text introduces principles and algorithms for generalizations. We describe both classical and new more efficient methods. It contains information about how some of these algorithms were implemented and offers an experimental comparison of these algorithms.
