Vackrare vardagsvara – design för alla? : Gregor Paulsson och Svenska Slöjdföreningen 1915–1925 / Better things for everyday life – Design for everybody? : Gregor Paulsson and the Swedish Society of Arts and Crafts 1915–1925Ivanov, Gunnela January 2004 (has links)
<p>This thesis is structured in six chapters. Chapter I contains an introduction and includes purpose, theory, method, and concepts. The main purpose, as depicted by the title, is to examine the roots of Swedish ideology concerning what today is generally named design, as embodied in the concept of more beautiful or better things for everyday life (in Swedish: ”vackrare vardagsvara”).</p><p>Chapter II contains a background and includes philosophical ideas and aesthetic movements in Europe which have influenced the Swedish Society of Arts and Crafts (in Swedish ”Svenska Slöjdföreningen”, abbreviated SSF) which was later renamed the Swedish Society of Crafts and Design (in Swedish: ”Föreningen Svensk Form”). It considers these activities: the Arts and Crafts movement in England, the Swedish national romantic movement, Deutscher Werkbund in Germany, and Swedish moulders of public opinion and new ideas, like Ellen Key, Carl Larsson and Gregor Paulsson.</p><p>Chapter III is an ideological biography of Gregor Paulsson. The chapter deals with biographical data and ideological development, and the social aesthetical texts which were important in his activity in the National Museum and as director of The Swedish Society of Arts and Crafts. Gregor Paulsson is considered mainly in his role as social aesthetical propagandist and museologist.</p><p>Chapter IV concerns the early history and activities of the Swedish Society of Arts and Crafts seen as an introduction to the Baltic Exhibition 1914, and the subsequent schism which eventually led to its reorganization and a new ideological orientation. Its activities were directed towards increased cooperation between artists and industry, and a special department was established as an employment office for companies and designers under the management of the textile artist Elsa Gullberg. This chapter also includes a brief portrait of key persons in the Society.</p><p>Chapter V is a study in several sections of the articles for everyday use seen in industrial practice, with Gustavsberg’s china factory and Orrefors’ glassworks as two separate historical studies. The 1917 Home Exhibition is surveyed as an example of the educational ambitions in the development of people’s taste. The focus of the chapter, however, is the international industrial art exhibition in Paris 1925, Exposition International des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, and the debate about it in the Swedish and French press.</p><p>Chapter VI consists of a concluding discussion with a final epilogue. It contains suggested questions for future research including relations between design and ethics.</p>

Evaluation and Justification of an RFID Implementation : Pilot at IKEA Customer Distribution CentreLarsson, Björn, Qviberg, Ola January 2004 (has links)
The purpose of this final thesis isto develop a model for justification and evaluation of RFID technology. RFID is a new, relatively untested, technology using radio signals for automatic identification of different objects. Our theoretical frame of references focuses on research about RFID and implementation iss ues, we also conducted case studies and interviews in order to learn about RFID. Most RFID installations of today are Pilots or early adopters wanting to try new technology. A lot of the written sources were reports from consultancy firms or suppliers of technology. Implementing RFID in real environment gave important insights into potentials and limitations of the technology. It proved that it is difficult to achieve sufficient readability in a steel environment. We also learned that one should not underestimate the time for installation and tuning in order to meet higher readability. The project finally resulted in an iterative model for justification and evaluation of RFID technology.

In Varying Shades of Brown : Searching the colourful past of a 18th century masterpieceAndersson, Elise January 2012 (has links)
The colourful past of the late 18th century marquetry furniture has seldom been highlighted. Through ageing and environmental influences, colourful marquetry furniture has lost their original expression. The current knowledge of how Swedish cabinet-makers in the late 18th century used dyes to colour their furniture is limited. Trace of colour has been observed and the use of dyes has been mentioned, but deeper research in this filed is missing. A visual examination and studies of archive documents and previous research have been performed to investigate the colourful past of Gottlieb Iwerssons masterpiece, a secretaire in Gustavian style made for the king Gustav III. The result shows that the secretaire has a colourful past in accordance with its original drawing. A hypothetical picture has been created to illustrate the colourful original appearance.

Axel Einar Hjorth – arkitekten som glömdes bort : om Nordiska Kompaniets chefsarkitekt och svensk art déco / Axel Einar Hjorth – the architect who was forgotten : an essay about the head architect of Nordiska Kompaniet and Swedish art décoCarlsten, Susanna January 2008 (has links)
This essay describes the carrier and production of the architect Axel Einar Hjorth, with an emphasis on the years 1927-1932, his first six years as head architect at Nordiska Kompaniet. The essay also tries to inquire into how Hjorth was recieved by contemporary press and explain why he was forgotten about for many years. The study shows that the furniture designs of Axel Einar Hjorth was very international in it´s style. Instead of calm classicism the furnitures often have strong references to art déco, a style that didn´t grew big in Sweden. The essay includes several furniture analyses where the aim is to show Hjorths versatility. Hjorth designed both art déco furnitures, period furnitures and more modernistic furnitures etc. One of the reasons why so little has been written about Axel Einar Hjorth and art déco in Sweden is that the funktionalism won the debate with it´s socialistic ideas, which made art déco a short-lived style.

The project of public spaces, as ideal place, needs a high investment. The opening of licitations for professionals of other states, different from where the implantation will be made, can bring negative consequences in the projected urban furniture. This happens because these professionals plan, many times, in agreement with the experiences of their local city, generating urban furniture out of the context with respect to cultural standard, visual identity of the city, ideal installation, access of the universal user and the type of more convenient material, for example. Due to it this, this research aims to investigate and to generate tools for professionals that work with urban furniture. The ABNT, through the NBR9383, divides the urban furniture in categories. The focus of this work is the research, through analyses and interpretations of historical archives, photographs and data of public managers, the Infrastructure, Information and Visual Communication category, specifically in what it says respect to the public place and signalling plates. A methodology for urban furniture project is presented, exemplified by the evolution of a quiz and the graphic design to create a visual identity in the "Street of the Antiquários" in Porto Alegre, with the production of application "Geraplaca", to help the designers in the creation of signaling plates and street plate of standardized form with respect to the choice of the letter, diagramming, production comments, finishing and installation. This way, production expenses can be diminished and the communication language among several different professionals who work with urban planning can be unified.

L'Etat culturel et le droit : approche juridique des interventions culturelles de l'Etat en France / Cultural state and law : legal approach of cultural actions of the state in FranceVoizard, Karl-Henri 21 October 2011 (has links)
This thesis assumes that legal analysis should enlighten the global meaning of cultural actions of the State. Beyond the wide variety of objects concerned, rules composing law oncultural activities of public authorities show common features. Their review shows that principles they follow draw the outlines of a figure: the one of the cultural State. The demonstration is organized in two phases. It is first shown what legal mechanisms are concerned when conventional means of cultural interventions of the State are focused tostrengthen national cohesion: the State produces institutions in order to link people withculture and unite around it. In the same time, it protects the property and agents necessaryto assure these institutions in the long term. It is then shown that the State reforms and cultural law changes did not really bend the initial logic: the legal forms of action are certainly more nuanced, but they change the State culture more than they challenge it.

Architektonická studie sakrálního objektu Brno - Líšeň / Architectural study of the sacral object Brno - Live /Líšeň/Malečková, Kateřina January 2020 (has links)
The topic of this diploma thesis is design processing of a new sacral building in Brno-Líšeň district. It is a plot in the middle of a panel building between the health centre building and the building of the Salesian Youth Center, so-called Salesko. The Salesian community, which will use the building the most, has been waiting for the realization of this building for many years. The key theme is the creation of spaces enabling people to meet for worship, celebrations and social events. The design is processed by two interconnected operations - the building of the Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit and the building of clergy house. The basic composition consists of three cubic masses - the entrance, the main liturgical space and the clergy house. The bell tower is the height dominant feature which indicates the sacral function of the building. The project consists a set of buildings with two above-ground floors and a basement in the entrance part of the church. This project also mentions the solution of open spaces around the plot and their conversion into quality public areas, marginally. The sacral space is to become a place that welcomes and takes in its visitors and gives them the feeling of safety. Inside this building, people will find peace, support and undestarstanding, so they may leave with the feeling of being a better person.
