Genderové aspekty rodičovské volby tradiční a Montessori mateřské školy / Gender aspects of parental choise of traditional and Montessori kindergartenKučerová Uriková, Dana January 2016 (has links)
The thesis deals with gender aspects of parental choice of common and Montessori kindergarten. The theoretical part focuses on topics related to both gender identity and its development and with the preschool period, which is described primarily in terms of gender. Given that important parts of childhood are toys, the theoretical part also focuses on the gender aspect and explores it. Gender equality is offered as one of the possible approaches to children upbringing and education. The Montessori method of education occupies a large space of the theoretical part. The thesis also compares Montessori kindergartens with common kindergartens. Research of the thesis is based on a qualitative analysis of interviews with mothers of children in the pre-school and early school age. This analysis goes through all the interviews. It searches and then compares common categories. The research shows that parents choosing a kindergarten for their child do not reflect forms of gender socialization in the kindergarten. Alternative kindergarten is often chosen by parents of children who apply elements of gender- sensitive education in their upbringing. Parents, who chose child Montessori kindergarten for their child, have more specific and clearly defined selection criteria than parents collecting common...

Resiliency Factors in African American Female Students in Single-Gender Educational SettingsHill, Phyllis Lynette 01 January 2018 (has links)
Resiliency is a critical factor in educational success; the gap exists in the research regarding the effect of resiliency in the educational success of African American female students. The purpose of this interpretive phenomenological research (IPR) study was to explore and describe the lived experience of single-gender education through African American female student alumnae to capture and distill their shared experience of educational resilience and competence. Framework drew on gender-relevant education, social capital, racial identity and socialization. Research perspective that participants were viewed consisted of critical race feminism theory and competency versus deficit or risk perspective. Research questions focused on how African American female student alumnae of single-gender educational settings described their experiences in and out of school as they relate to resiliency and competence. The IPR design consisted of 3 interviews per participant; 1 focused on the past, 1 focused on the present, 1 integrated past and present experiences. Interpretive phenomenological analysis was used to analyze data. Results showed the components that factor into the African American Academic Achieving Female (A4F) include racial identity and socialization, gender relevant education, support systems within cultural and social capital, Guts, Resilience, Initiative, Tenacity (GRIT), Cultural (Re)Appropriation Unity (CRU), personal spiritual relationship. Recommendation for the A4F framework to be used as a foundation to foster growth of the A4F. Social change implication is understanding how African American female alumnae of single-gender schools describe their shared experience of A4F on their lives to foster social change for the African American students.

Voices of male teachers in Shanghai public kindergarten: A phenomenological studyYang, Yan 01 January 2015 (has links)
Western and Chinese literature have suggested that early childhood education (ECE) is a feminized profession and many men remain invisible and silent gendered subjects in this field and fail to understand or accept the gendered realties. Employing a combination of theory of gendered organizations and concepts of masculinities as the theoretical framework, this study draws on in-depth interviews with three male teachers in Shanghai public kindergarten for a greater understanding of their lived experiences in a feminized profession. Kindergarten websites also provide opportunities to identify the ways in which the male teachers are represented in the kindergarten setting. Data analysis suggests five main themes, including realistic entry into ECE, challenges, rewards, perception of male teachers' roles, as well as professional development. Through male teachers' stories readers gain a deep understanding of how they manage every weekday and how they make sense of their lived experiences in Shanghai public kindergarten. This study concludes with a discussion of the implications of the findings and areas for further study.

中小學性別平等教育對學生未來職場性別態度之影響 / How gender equity education in elementary and high schools affects students’ gender attitudes in the future蔡德瑄, Tsai, Te-Hsuan Unknown Date (has links)
Gender inequity has always been there in the labor market. This paper examines how gender equity education in elementary and high schools affects students’ attitudes towards gender inequity issues in the future. This paper assumes that if people feel gender inequity is unfair, (or feel gender equity is fair), they have positive gender attitudes. Results derived from the data from 2005 Taiwan Social Change Survey (Round 5, Year 1): Work Orientation by using Regression Discontinuity Design (RDD) as well as the Ordered Logit Model suggest that women indeed lag behind men in the labor market and that gender equity education has no significant effect on students’ gender attitudes. Females, people with higher education level, and people who feel their current achievement is fair have significantly more positive gender attitudes.

Portraits d'élèves du primaire par leurs enseignants-es : l'impact du genre / Portraits of primary school pupils by their teachers : the impact of genderPetrovic, Céline 07 December 2010 (has links)
This PhD thesis deals with gender and education, more specifically investigating schools and schoolteachers. This research examines primary schoolteachers’ representations of their female and male pupils. Data have been drawn from the teachers’ portraits of their pupils. With reference to two theoretical frameworks, cognitive social representation theory and psychoanalysis, two methodologies have been used to collect and analyze data. On the one hand, the quantitative methodology shows that teachers produce significantly more discourse on their male pupils in zones d’education prioritaire (areas targeted for special help in education), and that when describing girls and boys, they discuss different themes in different ways according to the context. On the other, a clinical analysis of twenty-four student portraits shows that portraits of girls and boys do not focus on the same elements in terms of relationship to knowledge, and that the former more often meet their teachers’ desires than the latter. In effect, female and male pupils do not enjoy the same environment and do not elicit similar expectations from their teachers.

Förskollärares förhållningssätt till genus i barnböckerAndersson, Emelie, Rämgård, Linda January 2008 (has links)

Analýza učebnic pro základní školy z genderového hlediska / An analysis of primary school textbooks from a gender perspectiveSoušková, Anežka January 2021 (has links)
The present diploma thesis examines gender in Czech language textbooks for the second stage of the primary school. It aims to analyse three selected textbook series published by different publishing houses, using the results to evaluate whether or not individual textbooks depict men and women in a stereotypical manner whether there is discrimination on grounds of language. The thesis comprises a theoretical and empirical part. The theoretical part briefly introduces and delimits the concept of gender. It goes on to discuss selected aspects of linguistic gender discrimination, mainly the use of the generic masculine and inappropriate clichéd language. We also introduce the issue of deriving feminine forms of foreign female family names, which is topical at the time of writing. The final chapter of the theoretical part discusses the impact of gender bias in schooling on pupils'education. The empirical part analyses three textbook series, focussing on the representation of men and women in the subject matter, in illustrations, and on the use of gender-neutral language. The results of the analysis indicate that men prevail over women in all the textbooks analysed in several respects: namely in terms of the proportion of text excerpts authored by male or female authors; the number of illustrations...
