The Role of Service Guarantees in Managing ServicesBjörlin Lidén, Sara January 2004 (has links)
Service guarantees have been argued to have many roles in managing services, for instance signal service quality, attract new customers, increase satisfaction and retention, and to differentiate the company from its competitors. Despite a growing interest from service organizations, research on service guarantees has been surprisingly scarce. The aim of this dissertation is to provide a wider understanding of the roles of service guarantees. Data is gathered from actual customers (as opposed to fictitious participants of an experiment) and/or employees regarding service guarantees in three different service contexts. The methods used to gather and analyze the data were manifold and includes personal interviews, Mystery Shopping observations, focus group interviews and a postal survey. The results represent new knowledge when it comes to the roles of service guarantees in managing services. Previous research has almost exclusively addressed pre-purchase effects of the service guarantee, but has failed to address the impact of the service guarantee after it has been used. Therefore, the most important contribution to service research of this dissertation concern the understanding of service guarantees “in action” and the post-use effects of a service guarantee in real service settings. Another contribution is the identification of the recovery paradox; that the customer is more satisfied with the service after he or she has used the service guarantee, than before he or she experienced the original service failure. This result strongly suggests that the use of a service guarantee can make a fruitful contribution in the managing of services.

Acolhimento e Vínculo na assistência de pessoas com diagnóstico de transtornos alimentares / Embracement and Bond in the assistance to people diagnosed with Eating DisordersTatiane Mitleton Borges Ramos 16 December 2013 (has links)
This study aimed to evaluate and understand the processes of embracement and bond from the perspective of users of a health care service for people diagnosed with eating disorders (ED). For this, the measurement of user satisfaction with the service was performed using the scale SATIS-BR (n=15), and interviews were conducted in focus groups through the psychodrama method (n=7). The results of SATIS-BR revealed that 77.20% of users considered the service satisfactory in general; 87.6% of users were satisfied with the understanding that the team has with respect to the patient\'s problem, and with the competence of the team; 88.8% were satisfied with the help received and how they were embraced by the team; and 23.3% of users were satisfied with the physical conditions and comfort of service. The interview data in the focal group showed that the investigated service is deficient with respect to the Embracement regarding the access, the technique and posture; and, with respect to the Bond regarding the affection, the therapeutic and continuity. Regarding the access, it was observed scarcity of multidisciplinary services that assist patients with ED and that the socio-organizational access influences directly the quality of treatment. With regard to technique and posture, it was realized that training, influenced by the biomedical model, may hinder the therapeutic relationship and prevents that professionals have positions of dialogue, empathy, affection towards the patient and care with qualified hearing, discussion and comprehensive care for the users. It was noticed that the competent professional is one that balances, when appropriate, understanding and affectionate postures with strong and directive postures. Related to the continuity, it was impaired by staff turnover, which hindered the formation of interdisciplinary work and a reference team for the patient. Despite the positive results of treatment obtained, in part, by the competence of the primary therapist and the technical competence of the team; this study suggests that professionals undertake training to offer comprehensive care wit sympathetic and affectionate postures for the patient. Although it is not the purpose of this research, it was observed that the focus group interviews increased the participants\' perceptions about themselves, about their treatment and their relation with ED. Moreover, the intervention allowed participants to develop their empathy in relation to professionals, spontaneity, creativity and freedom of expression. It is concluded that the focus group interviews, conducted by the psychodrama method, promoted a therapeutic effect on the participants and provided resources for them to reflect more deeply on the assessed items of the SATIS-BR scale. The data emerged from this research indicate that support services to people with ED should be aware of the factors of access, technique, posture, affectivity, therapeutic relationship and continuity, as they are essential for the quality of care provided

Man blir lite taggad men också frustrerad : En explorativ studie av checkpoints i spelet A Story About My UncleEriksson, Sebastian, Zethraeus, Sebastian January 2013 (has links)
In this study we pose the question if you through finding patterns in implementation of checkpoints can find ways to tailor the experience of the game A Story About My Uncle to hardcore gamers. To find out the answer we had hardcore players playing a modified level from the game A Story About My Uncle that was used as stimulus material for the following focus group interview. The analysis of the gathered material resulted in four patterns that can be used when implementing checkpoints to tailor the experience of the game A Story About My Uncle to hardcore gamers. Elements of checkpoints that our study showed to be important when it comes to how the game is experienced are density, placement and clearness.

Förbättrad smärtskattning och smärtlindring på en akutmottagning : -samt sjuksköterskors erfarenhet av personcentrering vid smärtskattning / Improved pain assessment and pain relief in an Emergency Department : -nurses experience of person-centeredness in pain asessmentVennberg, Erik January 2023 (has links)
Effectively managing acute pain is one of the most important tasks of the emergency department and can improve the patient's well-being. Untreated or undertreated pain leads to negative consequences for the patient. Journal review, patient questionnaires and nurses' perception of adherence to established guidelines showed shortcomings regarding pain assessment, pain treatment and evaluation of its effect in the emergency department concerned. The aim of the improvement work was to relieve pain more effectively through increased pain assessment. The pain assessment would take place before and after given pharmaceutical treatment and would be offered to a greater extent. The journal review was limited to include patients with abdominal pain, which is one of the most common reasons for visits to emergency departments. Nolan's improvement model was used as a method in the improvement work where the results show improvements in all measurement areas. The increase in offered pharmaceutical treatment was considered most significant. The result indicates that the change led to improvement. The aim of the study was to describe nurses' experience of person-centeredness in pain assessment through a qualitative method in the form of focus group interviews with content analysis. The results showed that the patient's participation was the main factor for successful pain assessment. The focus on pain increased the awareness of the nurses to request the patient's story and experience in the emergency visit, which is an important part of a person-centered approach. The conclusion is that the improvement work increased the nurses' motivation to request the patient's story with increased occurrence of pain assessment (from 14% to 40%), offer of pharmaceutical treatment (from 51% to 73%) and evaluation of its effect (from 13% to 44%) as a result.

This master essay is a Foucauldian discourse analysis of how students in the Swedish upper secondary school talk about the practice of reading literature where the data collection method is focus group interviews. The purpose of the essay is to contribute to how students talk about the practice of reading literature by examining what patterns emerge in the interviews and how these can be understood in relation to dominant discourses in the society. The motives for the study are, among other things, that the debate about young people's reading has become more intense in the last decade, that there are few reviews of dominant perceptions that surround the practice of reading literature and that the perspective on how students' perceptions are constructed is lacking in research. Two patterns can be distinguished in the focus group interviews. One pattern is that the practice of reading is considered to have several good effects such as greater vocabulary and the ability to see things from different perspectives. Reading is considered useful and the book as an artifact has a high status. This pattern can be understood as a reproduction of the dominant discourse about the practice of reading literature, where reading as a phenomenon and reading as practice are seen as something unproblematically good. The second pattern that emerges during the focus group interviews is that a counter-discourse is established. The counter-discourse is based on the experience that reading as a practice is linked to pressure and achievement, and therefore something unpleasant. According to these students, reading should instead be based on free will and om other forms of reading practice, such as reading from a mobile phone. The didactic implications of the study are that an inclusive literature teaching presupposes a perspective-taking where the surrounding society's values of literature reading are discussed. If this is done, an in-depth understanding can be reached about how the students view reading literature and what shapes their ideas.

Kulturskolan - en skola för alla? : En diskursanalytisk studie om musiklärares syn på arbete för inkludering och ökad mångfald i kulturskolan / Swedish Community School of Music - a school for everyone? : A discourse analysis study of music teachers' view on the work for inclusion and increased diversity in Swedish Community School of MusicAlmer, Alicia January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine music teachers’ views on the work for inclusion and increased diversity in Swedish Community School of Music. The study’s research question concern how music teachers’ construct and legitimate their views on the work for inclusion and increased diversity in Swedish Community School of Music. To examine this three focus group interviews were held at three different schools. The theoretical framework of the study is discourse theory and the data generated from the focus group interviews has been processed and analyzed with discourse analytical tools. In the result the six discourses found are presented based on the teachers’ constructions about the work for inclusion and increased diver- sity in Swedish Community School of Music. These discourses is about how the work for inclusion and increased diversity is seen as given, as contradictive, as social developing, as ex- ternal activity, as difficult and as mutual responsibility. The result also shows parents and school as two contextual factors which affects the discourses in different ways. In the discussion two more general contrarious discourses, about the work for inclusion and increased diversity as obvious and non-obvious, are discussed in relation to previous presented literature.

Vilket bra uttryck! / What a nice expression! : A study about teachers' and students' constructions of the concepts personal, artistic and musical expression.Wettergren, Sandra January 2019 (has links)
I resultatet presenteras två övergripande tolkningsrepertoarer per begrepp. / The purpose of the study is to investigate how teachers as well as pupils at the upper secondary school's aesthetic program and at the music college approach the concepts of artistic, musical and personal expression. Previous research in the field shows that there is no clear definition of the concepts. The study was conducted through focus group interviews with teachers from a secondary school, teachers from a music college, students from a high school and students from a music college. In the analysis of the interviews, a discourse psychological perspective has been used. The result presents two general interpretation repertoires per concept. It appears that musical expression is constructed as technical knowledge and as the expression of music. Ar- tistic expression is constructed as creation as well as profound and expert knowledge. Personal expression is constructed as peculiar and something unique and as a musical interpretation. The result shows that there are different ways to define the concepts. The discussion discusses dif- ficulties in defining the concept though the concepts are considered to overlap with each other and that the context and experience of using the concepts are important for how the concepts can be defined. The concepts are also discussed in relation to Skolverkets curriculum.
