= The people of God and the nations: how is the presence of nations besides the people of God in heaven to be explained?Kaldewey, Simon 30 June 2006 (has links)
Gottesvolks. / The following dissertation examines the meaning of the nations mentioned in Revelation 21:24.26.
How is it possible that there will be nations as counterpart to God's people?
In the course of the study, the thesis is confirmed that the relationship between God's people and the
nations shown in the Old Testament is a preview to the future state in heaven and that the New
Testament stands for a time of transition and new formation of God's people.
An outstanding meaning is attributed to this mutual relationship. God's people is appointed to rule
over the nations along with God. By divine rule the nations are to be led to recognition and adoration
of God. It is an inherent part of the identity of God's people to stand and to intercede between God and
the nations. Thus the presence of heavenly nations is justified by its necessity as counterpart of God's
people. / Philosophy, Practical and Systematic Theology / M. Th. (Systematic Theology)

Text in Afrikaans with summaries in Afrikaans and English / Where do we find the first evidence of a belief in life after death, and a divide or separation in
the afterlife? We find answers in the primal and traditional religions in Africa and America,
Hinduism, Buddhism, Egypt, Babylonia, Persia, Hellenism, the Bible and the apocrypha. There
had been a preparation for the work and words of Jesus. He is unique. After His death and
resurrection as historical figure, He never died again. He is our guarantee for life after death. His
Gospel includes eternal heaven as well as eternal hell. He is proclaimed as Saviour. The New
Testament uses metaphors to convey the reality of heaven and hell. Not only do we find kerugma
about the afterlife, but also information. The message has also transformation as a goal.
Hy is uniek.
In sy prediking het Hy by sekere
daar 'n hemel en 'n hel sal wees as ewige seen of ewige straf.
doel. / Systematic Theology and Theological Ethics / D.Th. (Systematic Teology)

Previous issue date: 2014-12-11 / Matthew s community was a splinter group of Judaism. It was formed by Jewish
Christians who suffered exclusion from the larger community of Judaism in training.
After AD 70 with the destruction of the temple and the expulsion of the Jews from
Jerusalem, Judaism underwent a change in its structure. During this transformation,
she sought a new identity for the Jewish community. In this process, the Judeo-
Christian community was driven out of the Synagogue and also had to develop its
identity. This research revolves around Mt 5.20. This verse is the key to understanding
the life of the Matthean community and its transformative proposal. Subsequent
communities always, throughout history, have sought inspiration in the Matthean
community vision around justice. One is the maroon community. This could hope to
find when approaching these words that motivated the liberation of a people who lived
homeless, landless and without shelter in a foreign land.

Obraz Jana Křtitele v matoušově evangeliu / The image of John the Baptist in the Gospel of MatthewLokvencová, Iva January 2016 (has links)
This thesis focuses on the analysis of John the Baptist by using exegetical methods in the context of the gospel of Matthew. The thesis begins with a short introduction of the gospel of Matthew and the background of the analyzed texts Mt 3,1-12 (which deals with the activities of John the Baptist, the controversy between him and the Sadducees and Pharisees, and John's warning against the Last Judgment) and Mt 11,1-19 (which describes doubts concerning Jesus' mission, Jesus' confirmation of John's part, and the rejection of John's and Jesus' proclamations by the Jewish party). This part briefly summarizes the interpreted texts as well as the description, division, and broader framework of their background or parallel comparison of the synoptics. A translation of the verses from Greek to Czech follows which is accompanied by annotations, interesting facts, references to the peculiarities that arise from the translation, or differences among the Czech and other foreign translations of the Bible. Then comes the exegesis of the individual verses supplemented by findings acquired through research, followed by a summary of the chapter. The central source of information for this thesis is predominantly the biblical text itself, supplemented by information found in several commentaries, articles, monographs,...

Ježíšova blahoslavenství v kontextu Matoušova evangelia / The Jesus' Beatitudes in the Context of the Gospel of MatthewOndruš, Jiří January 2020 (has links)
Bc. Ji í Ondruš The Jesus' Beatitudes in the Context of the Gospel of Matthew Anotace v anglickém jazyce: The Jesus' Beatitudes cannot be understood as a completely isolated part of Jesus' teaching. Therefore, the knowledge of the whole gospel of Matthew is necessary for their understanding. In this thesis I compare the individual words contained in the Beatitudes with the same words in the Gospel of Matthew outside the Beatitudes. By this means I find the meaning of Jesus' message in the Beatitudes contained in the Gospel of Matthew. I also present and compare ancient Greek copies (the Sinai Code and the Vatican Code) and six most famous Czech translations of this Gospel. I also compare the exegesis of well-known biblical scholars, especially what they agree on, but also what they fundamentally differ on. An important part is also a synoptic comparison with the Beatitudes of the evangelist Luke. The aim of this thesis is to get as close as possible to the meaning of the specific section of Mt 5: 1-12, which represents the lifelong program of Jesus' followers, but also Jesus. Jesus introduces himself at the beginning of the mountain sermon. He speaks not only of how his disciples are supposed to be, but also of how he is.

Biological control of the invasive Ailanthus altissima (tree-of-heaven) in Virginia using naturally occurring Verticillium wilt fungiBrooks, Rachel Keys 08 June 2020 (has links)
The invasive tree-of-heaven, Ailanthus altissima (Miller) Swingle, is widespread and damaging throughout North America. Verticillium wilt disease is emerging as a potentially exciting biological control option for this difficult to control tree. In Virginia, Verticillium nonalfalfae has been confirmed causing significant mortality to A. altissima, while V. dahliae is suspected to be present and causing lower levels of disease. Little else is known regarding these two fungal species in this state. The purpose of this research was to gain a better understanding of how Verticillium wilt impacts A. altissima and its potential as a biological control agent. We first confirmed V. dahliae's presence in Virginia and its pathogenicity to A. altissima using Koch's postulates. We then completed a regional field-inoculation experiment to show that V. nonalfalfae effectively kills and spreads to adjacent A. altissima, regardless of V. dahliae presence or other climate and stand variables. Additionally, we showed that V. dahliae causes lower levels of disease than V. nonalfalfae, and does not spread rapidly. Next, we surveyed all Virginia A. altissima stands known to be naturally infected with V. nonalfalfae to determine whether V. nonalfalfae persists long-term, that it considerably reduces A. altissima numbers, and that its local prevalence may be higher than initially suspected. However, we were unable to infect A. altissima seedlings using soil collected at these infested sites, suggesting that V. nonalfalfae's survival within field soil may be limited. Lastly, using paired A. altissima invaded-uninvaded sites, we found that A. altissima presence is associated with a decreased proportion of native plants and species in the woody and herbaceous understory, but not the germinable seedbank. Furthermore, we found that this impact on the woody understory appears to increase over time, supporting early management actions and helping us predict post-management restoration needs. We conclude that V. nonalfalfae has a high potential of successfully limiting A. altissima throughout Virginia, supporting its registration as a biopesticide. / Doctor of Philosophy / Commonly called the tree-of-heaven, the nonnative invasive forest-tree Ailanthus altissima, is extensive, damaging, and spreading throughout North America. After finding large areas of declining tree-of-heaven being killed by two different fungal species (Verticillium nonalfalfae and V. dahliae), research has been focused on how to use these fungi to help us manage the tree-of-heaven. In Virginia, V. nonalfalfae has been confirmed killing large numbers of tree-of-heaven, while V. dahliae is suspected to be present in areas with lower levels of decline. The purpose of our research was to gain a better understanding of how these pathogens impact tree-of-heaven and their potential as biological control agents in Virginia. We first confirmed that V. dahliae is present in Virginia and can cause disease on tree-of-heaven. We then inoculated tree-of-heaven stands throughout the state to confirm that V. nonalfalfae effectively kills and spreads to adjacent tree-of-heaven regardless of V. dahliae presence or other climate or site variables. In contrast, we found that V. dahliae only causes low levels of disease and does not spread effectively. Next, we surveyed all known naturally infected V. nonalfalfae sites in Virginia and demonstrated that V. nonalfalfae persists long term within these stands, considerably reducing but not eradicating the tree-of-heaven, and that V. nonalfalfae's local prevalence may be higher than initially suspected. However, when tree-of-heaven seedlings were planted into soil collected from these infested sites, no disease developed, suggesting that V. nonalfalfae's survival within the soil may be limited. Lastly, by looking at tree-of-heaven stands, we found that the tree-of-heaven's presence is associated with a lower percentage of native plants and species in the understory, but not in the seeds present in the soil. In addition, we found that this impact on the woody plants in the understory appears to become more severe over time, supporting managing the tree-of-heaven as soon as possible. We conclude that V. nonalfalfae used as a biological control has a good potential of successfully limiting the tree-of-heaven in Virginia and support its registration as a biopesticide.
