Contribution à une sociologie politique de la jeunesse : jeunes, ordre politique et contestation au Burkina Faso / Contribution to a political sociology of youth : young people, political order and protest in Burkina Faso

Bonneval, Émilie Catherine Marie de 03 February 2011 (has links)
In spite of their unfavourable position in the hierarchies of power, youngpeople play a major role in the processes of social political change, which occur inthe Burkina Faso society. Hence, this social group seems to be a good instrumentto efficiently analyse policy, and moreover the processes of contestation anddomination at work in Burkina Faso. Indeed, young people develop numerousstrategies carried out in public places, which to varying degrees and termsconstitute forms of contestation against the political order. Thus by relying onthree categories of youth (unionised students, street youth, and young rappers orfollowers of the hip-hop movement), we sought to examine in a diachronicperspective, the nature of relationships of dominance at work in the Burkina Fasosociety. We find that the limited impact of these forms of contestations against theestablished order can be largely explained by the hegemonic context in which theyarise. Therefore, in our mind, the characteristic domination of the current politicalorder are based on “the strategies of mediation” and “neo-patrimonial cooptation”,which diffuse tensions and regulate conflicts, according to very precise procedures, with the aim to preserve the consensual image of the political culture. In ouropinion, these two dimensions constitute the pillars of a “political culture”, whichspreads out from a multitude of social spaces and creates a permanent, mediatisedexchange between rulers and those who are ruled.

Počátky a vývoj českého hip hopu v tuzemských hudebních časopisech / The beginnings and evolution of Czech hip hop in domestic music magazines

Tkáč, Vojtěch January 2021 (has links)
The diploma thesis analyses the beginnings of hip hop in the Czech Republic in the context of domestic music magazines. It aims to examine the media depiction of this cultural phenomenon in its entirety with an emphasis on the musical genre of rap. Through qualitative content analysis of text data, it observes specific periodicals in two time periods. The first of them was in the years 1989 to 1999, when the first attempts to transfer the originally American genre to the domestic environment began to appear in the country. The second analysed stage is limited to the years 2000 and 2002, in which two key albums were released, namely Repertoár by the group PSH and My 3 by Indy & Wich. The magazines Melodie, Rock & Pop, Report, Tripmag, Ultramix and Bbarák were used in the qualitative content analysis. The thesis examines the first printed mentions of Czech hip hop, but also focuses on reviews, interviews and other extensive journalistic genres, especially at a later stage. Qualitative content analysis of textual data is complemented by semi-structured interviews with leading music publicists, but also artists who have contributed to the establishment of rap in terms of Czech music. The research method of oral history was also used and made it possible to obtain information with witnesses that have...

Autenticitet i rapp : En studie om autenticitet bland svenska gangsterrappare / Authenticity in rap : A study on authenticity among swedish gangster rappers

Schott Strömberg, Arthur Fredrik January 2022 (has links)
This paper focuses on authenticity in rap: how it is created and maintained. First, I introduce the subgenre of “gangsta rap” and how it is defined. Then, I continue by analyzing a set of songs both lyrically, audibly and visually, and while direct audible differences are included, they are deemed less important than the social aspect of said songs. Subsequently follows a discussion of my findings and the conclusion that Swedish gangster rappers create authenticity by being criminals. No matter where they come from, or who they know they will always present themselves as the front figure of vast criminal networks and use their lyrics as a form of “gangster diary.” Themes such as hating the police, selling drugs and killing in cold blood are commonplace and are even expected.

Safra Medina, Diana Jackeline 03 December 2016 (has links)

Based in research developed on the subject of rap gospel in the city of Belém, Sate of Pará, Brazil, I could obtain empirical data which gave me information to reflect upon general questions of anthropology. In that way, I organized the dissertation in the perspective of a compilation of essays, which deal with the question of as the use of the subjectivity is possible in the construction of the ethnographic text. This subjectivity, in the field work between researcher, intermediate, interlocutors e informers. For the exposition of the analysis in it, I used the analogy with the composition, production and recording of a CD. In fact, it is as if each essay contained here constitutes a band of a CD entitled sacred Words, rhymes and experiences: A thematic of the understanding on Pentecostal Christianism, rap and anthropology, by the MC and anthropologist Bruno “B.O.” Borda, with a bonus track, also. The Christian Rap provided reflections to me on religion, youth and racial relations, on one hand, and epistemology, methodology and art, on the other, making that I presented this work with a purpose much more of incitation to the questioning and the doubt. All this in a kind of philosophical style, keeping the rhyme and the poetry, to at least propitiate a mixing reading, in order to reach partners anthropologists and allied hip hoppers.

Stigmas Associated With Black American Incarceration Through an Afrocentric Lens

Tidwell, Wylie Jason 01 January 2015 (has links)
Although extensive quantitative research has been conducted on Black American incarceration rates, to date, there has not been a study from an Afrocentric (Black American) perspective in the field of public policy. Using Dillard's conceptualization of Afrocentric theory, this study added to the field of public policy by examining how the stigmas associated with mass incarceration have reduced political and economic opportunities for Black Americans born 1965 - 1984. The purpose of this ethnographic study was to provide an Afrocentric voice by which the members of the Black American community are the center of the data collection on the stigmas associated with incarceration as a product of the new Jim Crow (mass incarceration) for those born between 1965 -1984 (the hip-hop generation where the music is the center of the culture) in the United States. Data were collected through semistructured interviews with selected informants based on their background work, experience, and cultural orientation within the Black American community; these data were analyzed via a summative content analysis, which revealed new perspectives on the stigmas associated with incarceration. The new perspective that was gained asked for the structure of the Black American church to be reexamined due to the rise in the mega-church, an improved culturally sensitive K-12 public educational system, and the overall reconnection and strengthening of the Black American family structure. These findings suggest that social change can only occur when researchers of color are allowed to provide their perspectives on issues that affect those they represent. Hence, the social change implications for this study ask that political leaders work directly with the hip-hop generation and the Black American community as a whole to make changes in legislation through political liberalism.

The Vigorous Local: Culture Industry, Hip-hop And The Politics Of Resistance In The Age Of Globalization

Mert, Ceren 01 September 2003 (has links) (PDF)
The aim of this thesis is to demonstrate how music has become a significant means of communication in the process of globalization, and how it integrates the &lsquo / global&rsquo / and the &lsquo / local&rsquo / while enabling the aggrieved populations to speak through and to express their antagonistic stances. In addition to the discussions of globalization, this study analyzes the medium of music along the areas of media and identity politics. In this respect, it deliberates on the global and local features of hip-hop. Although born in the ghettos of Bronx, New York, this global youth culture has been adopted by other minority youths in order to voice their anger and frustration towards the exclusionist practices of the state, as well as racism and discrimination they face in their host countries. Accordingly, the second and third generation Turkish youths in Germany and South Asian youths in Britain have revealed their rage through the subversive lyrics they employed. Therefore, these lyrics can also be regarded as narratives that indicate these immigrant youths as representatives of resistance and defiance. Despite the fact that the musical works of these minority youths may be considered a product of the &lsquo / culture industry&rsquo / , this does not eliminate their resistive and subversive characteristics.
