Our approach is through the work we developed at the State Commission of Truth and Memory Preservation of Paraiba (CEVPM/PB), through the taking of testimony of former rural workers, leaders of the movement and family members persecuted by the civil-military regime. Through the testmony of the latter, we also gave special attention to the effects of the coup and the civil-military regime for some persecuted politicians linked to the peasant leagues and their families. In most of the analyzed interviews, however, we highlight the struggles and battles fought by organized rural workers and landowners and their agents. Configuring antagonistic social forces, we also analyze how the power relations were given, noting that there was not an absolute domination of the ones on top towards the ones from below. Organized in Peasant Leagues, the peasants amounted forces that reacted in relatively balanced proportions to the arbitrariness of large landowners. This encounter often resulted in bloody battles that ended with casualties on both sides. It was in the light of historiographical aspects of social history, particularly the English tradition, and the New Political History, which we approach our object of study by understanding that power relations also permeate social dynamics.

The Rise and Fall of CSLA?! Military profession (1960-1970) in the collective memory of the officer corps Jiří Hlaváček Abstract: The aim of this dissertation thesis is the reflection of everyday life and the (transformation) of the professional identity of the officers' corps in the 1960s in the collective memory. The research is based on narrative analysis of oral-historical interviews with witnesses who served in the Czechoslovak People's Army during the period under review. Memories of witnesses are compared with other types of historical sources. The first part of the thesis is devoted to the problems of everyday life in the socialist type army. The content analysis focuses on the motivation of witnesses for the choice of the military profession, the specifics of military life, ideology in the army, the relationship between the soldiers and the public, as well as on the combat readiness and role of the Czechoslovak army in the eventual potential cold-war conflict. The second part of the thesis deals with the actions of actors on the background of event history. It is followed by the reflection of the Prague Spring, the August occupation of 1968 and the subsequent normalization of the army in the early seventies. The main focus is on the narrative analysis of the actors' strategies and the different...

Moses son of Akhenaten? : a study of archaeology and textual perspectives

Vine, Jayne Margaret 13 October 2015 (has links)
The search for a ‘historical Moses’ is one which has been debated for several centuries. In spite of copious archaeological finds in Egypt and other parts of the ancient Near East, no material remains have been found to substantiate the Exodus story. Mythological stories from the ancient Near East bear striking similarities to the Moses narrative found in the Hebrew Bible. The inconsistencies found in the Hebrew Bible further hamper the attempt to find a historical Moses, instead Moses is found only in tradition. Taking these issues into consideration, other possibilities need to be investigated. This dissertation places Moses growing up in the court of Akhenaten an 18th Dynasty Egyptian Pharaoh in the middle of the 14th century BCE. The study investigates the possibility of Moses as a son of Akhenaten with Nefertiti as a stepmother, his own biological mother, a Mitannian princess, having died giving birth to Moses. Several similarities between Akhenaten and Moses are discussed throughout the study. The study moves into the 21st century with the groundbreaking discovery of DNA, which provides new conclusions which before were only debated. / Biblical & Ancient Studies / M.A. (Biblical Archaeology)

Silva, Letícia Siabra da 28 February 2013 (has links)
Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / This work is intended to analyse poor citizens‟ experiences at applying their communication strategies in the city of Uberlândia. By analysing a documentary produced by the television chain Rede Vitoriosa , from its emission Linha Dura no seu bairro (the Portuguese for Linha Dura in your district), one managed to obtain a complete investigation that treats the relationship amongst the living experiences of poor citizens around the city, by integrating and providing new ways of communicating. It encompass a period between the decades of 1990 and 2010, and remarks the important evolution of the communication devices that took place alongside a growing interest towards television viewers, as far as their relationship with the daily life in the suburbs were concerned. The research, carried out from written and video resources, together with interviews, has provided a strategy aimed to understand the city of Uberlandia in the given period. The same research has also related the mobilization of the inhabitants throughout the urban background to the news production, consumption and broadcasting. Getting to realize how do citizens take part in this process has become such a challenge for the concerned research, in its intents to look into the manners the citizens create their own communication spaces and also take over existing ones, in order to constitute a communication field on an unequal background.

Kontinuita a kontakt:Ságy o současnosti a kulturní paměť / Continuity and Contact: The Contemporary Sagas and Cultural Memory

Korecká, Lucie January 2021 (has links)
The study is focused on the Old Norse "contemporary sagas" (texts composed with a short time distance from the events of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries that are recorded in them) and some of the bishops' sagas as images of the thirteenth- and fourteenth-century Icelanders' identity and their relationship to other lands, especially Norway. It aims at analysing the roles and meanings of various identity bearers portrayed in these sources - chieftains, royal representatives, ecclesiastical dignitaries, and saintly bishops. The approach to the sources is based on an analysis of how recent historical events were transformed into a narrative discourse, in which they were connected to the more distant past that formed the medieval Icelandic society's cultural memory. That way, these events themselves became a part of this society's cultural memory, and the given historical knowledge was endowed with specific meanings, which were not inherently present in the knowledge itself, but were based on its contextualization. The study shows how the narrativization of the recent events and their integration into the cultural memory creates a meaningful relationship between the past and the present. The objective of the study is to show how the narrative sources reflect the society's perception of its recent...
