Folkbibliotekariers upplevda kompetensbehov i arbetet för och med nyanlända / Librarians’ view of the competences required in their work for and with immigrants

Jakobsson, Daniel, Törnqvist, Katharina January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis work is to provide knowledge about the librarian´s view of the competence required in the work towards and with immigrants. The information was collected by interviewing seven librarians at four public libraries, using semi-structured interviews. Lundmark´s competence model was used to analyse the material. The conclusion of this study is; knowledge of languages is considered particularly important by the interviewed librarians. At the same time, the knowledge of languages is one of the professional competences they consider themselves lacking. Treatment and personal competences related to treatment are also described as particularly important, the librarians are of the opinion that they possess these competences. Other competences considered important in working towards and with immigrants are patience and foresight. Aside from treatment, this study's informants consider they have strengths in the traditional competences of the profession; literature and provision of information. The informants consider they not only lack competence in languages, but also lack professional competence about what functions are provided by the community and the workflow between the actors, to guide the immigrants and help them finding answers to their question. The informants also experience communication difficulties with the different actors in the community, working towards and with immigrants.

På användares villkor : Att utforma globala navigationssystem på e-handelswebbplatser inom modebranschen / On user terms : Designing global navigation systems on e-commerce websites in the fashion industry

Kronlid, Jonna, Laster, Lina January 2018 (has links)
The aim of the study was to investigate whether users preferred a horizontal or vertical global navigation system on an e-commerce website in the fashion industry. In addition, the purpose was also to investigate what features users expected in a global navigation system and to examine what users considered to be particularly important in the design of labels in global navigation systems. A user centered method called Contextual inquiry was adopted do define user expectations, opinions and needs on global navigation systems in the fashion industry. In the study ten participants participated and studied two e-commerce websites in the fashion industry: ginatricot.com and zara.com. The aspects investigated in relation to global navigation systems were user-centered design, horizontal and vertical global navigation systems, features and labels in a global navigation system. The method contributed to a deeper understanding of how web designers can customize the global navigation system on e-commerce websites in the fashion industry for users. For example, by involving users early in the development process, customizing labels based on user´s languages, designing clear links using easy-to read font and color, implementing the global navigation system on top of the website, using a logo as a home button and implementing a clear search feature in the global navigation system.

Att synas bland alla andra : En studie om SEO och arbetet för synlighet på sökmotorer / To be seen among all others : A study about SEO and the work with visibility on search engines

Klaesson, Simon, Wulff, Jennifer January 2018 (has links)
The aim of this bachelor’s thesis is to examine how search engine algorithms and the continuous growth of the internet affect the work with search engine optimization and website visibility. By using two complementary methods, one quantitative and one qualitative, consisting of an online survey and interviews, this study investigates SEO company employees’ experiences of working with search engine optimization and their thoughts regarding search algorithms and the internet. The result of this study shows that the continuous growth of the internet is hugely affecting how demanding the work with search engine optimization is. The amount of competition involved in making a website visible among all others is consuming a great amount of resources and time. It also became clear that the search engine algorithms are not really part of the greater problem when it comes to optimizing a website. Rather, the problem lies with the resources it takes to do so. Suggestions are made on what further scientific research is needed around search engine optimization. Foremost there is a lack of studies investigating just how much of an impact the continuous expansion of the internet has on the rivalry among websites to be visible and how much time and resources are needed to keep getting high rankings and visibility for a website.

Att ta ställning i ett val : En kvalitativ studie om förstagångsväljares informationsvanor / To take a stand in an election : A qualitative study of first-time voter’s information habits

Johansson Kläth, Linnea, Lopez Arenteg, Wirena January 2018 (has links)
First-time voters is a group that is given a considerable amount of media attention during election years. Even though they are an interesting group, the amount of research related to this group is relatively small. To understand how this group can be reached one can examine their information habits. In this bachelor thesis the first-time voters’ information habits are examined in relation to the upcoming election and how this can be understood by way of an information process. The study was conducted during the period April-May 2018 and builds on five semi-structured interviews with first-time voters that studied at high school level. Each respondents’ information habits were presented and later analyzed and discussed by way of an information process. All respondents expressed that traditional media have been replaced with digital formats. They also consider themselves to be reached best through digital media with information about the election. All respondents felt that social media is a cause of stress that interferes with their daily life, but they also saw many advantages. They talked about a globalized communication technology and an available information flow. They thus want to distance themselves from and at the same time take part of the advantages of social media, which appears as a complex relationship. Young first-time voters view information as an infinite source to knowledge which is in need of critical inspection. The legislative election is not taken lightly and they experience that it is not easy to know which politicians are right or wrong. The election, information and social media are seen as important but also as big and exhausting.

”Då FINNS jag.” : En studie om användarens uppfattningar om regnbågshyllan / ”Then I EXIST” : A study about the user's perception of the rainbow shelf

Håkansdotter, Emmy January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to provide increased knowledge about the phenomenon of "rainbowshelf" and how the user group LGBT+ experiences it. The purpose has been answered with the help of the questions: How does the target group LGBTQ+ experience the rainbow shelf? And how can their experiences be understood from queer theory? The empirical material has been collected through a websurvey that addressed the user group LGBT+. It has spread with the help of the snowball method on social media and resulted in 124 answers that were then analysed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The theoretical framework used in this thesis is queer theory. The result shows that most respondents are positive to a rainbow shelf, although most respondents have never used a rainbow shelf themselves. Among those who have used a rainbow shelf, they find that they are made visible through it and feel more included in the library. It also appears that among those who are negative to the rainbow shelf, the main reason for this is the feeling that “we and them” is reinforced and that it feels very indicatory to go to a special shelf to find their books.

Plagiering på högskolan. : Orsaker och förebyggande åtgärder / Plagiarism in higher education. : Causes and preventive measures

Karlsson Atencio, Anette January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to illustrate the causes of plagiarism in higher education and to discuss possible preventive measures against plagiarism. The study is basedon documents containing students´ explanations when being accused of plagiarism before the disciplinary board, as well as on interviews with staff in two colleges/universities in Sweden. This material is analysed with a qualitative approach, and the theoretical lenses used are ethics and information literacy. The result shows that the most common causes of plagiarism according to the students themselves are lack of knowledge, a problematic private situation or that somebody external is to blame. In some cases, several factors coincide. A number of preventive measures are suggested, such as emphasizing the values of the academic tradition, cooperation between different groups of staff and a more prominent role for the teachers in this work. The discussion brings up the different roles of librarians and teachers, and sheds light on the need for future research on how to further clarify the boundaries between the professions as well as their common ground.

Ungdomars delaktighet på stadsdelsbibliotek : en kvalitativ innehållsanalys av bibliotekariers utsagor / Youth participation at district libraries : a qualitative content analysis of librarians’ statements

Kassel Lundby, Jovanna January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to examine how librarians who work with young people as their main target group view youth participation in public libraries, in particular inactivities directed to young people. Earlier studies find that young people appreciate libraries, but they also see libraries as more relevant for younger children and not so much for themselves. The research questions are: How do librarians experience working with participation in relation to young people as a target group? What efforts are being made to increase the participation of young people at district libraries? How does communication between librarians and young people work? The empirical material was collected by semistructured interviews with public librarians who work with young people as their main target group. The interviews were analysed using qualitative content analysis together with Roger Hart’s ‘Ladder of children’s participation’, which was modified to better fit the purpose of this thesis. The results show the willingness of librarians to develop youth participation, but also the difficulties of identifying young people’s expectations of the library.

Semiprofessionens innehåll : En diskursanalytisk studie av debattartiklar, riksdagsmotioner och biblioteksplaner 2015–2017 med syfte att undersöka hur biblioteksarbete framträder / Content of the semi profession : A discourse analysis of debate articles, parliament motions and public library policies 2015–2017 with the aim to examine how library work is described

Hilmersson, Malin January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to examine how public library work is described in Swedish newspaper debates concerning the public library, Swedish Parliament motions and Swedish public library policies during the period 2015–2017. In Swedish newspapers the two main questions debated were the question of a noisy public library which includes the question of the public library user and the question of weeding.  In the motions as well as in the library policies one of the main subjects are reading and literacy. These documents are also highly concerned with the mission of providing knowledge. Furthermore, a view of the public library as an institution associated with change emerges.  In the source material there are two different ways of defining library work, one is the traditional view of the work that mainly involves reading and handling of the physical books and the other one is more concerned with information and change or evolving of the library and the task assignments.

Kommunikation och styrning vid kommunal samverkan om digitalisering / Communication and governance in communal cooperation withdigitalization

Ismail, Omid January 2019 (has links)
The study deals with the importance of good communication and control in communal collaboration on digitalization, a new area in which more and more communes work together to meet challenges in the form of financial, human resources and digital solutions. The study aims to investigate how communication and control work in communal collaboration on digitization. To investigate this, the case was studied where the contact commune together with four other communes formed a central IT-department with the aim of collaborating on finances, human resources and digital solutions. The study is based on a qualitative study where one of the cooperating communes and the central IT-department is interviewed. A total of eight interviews have been conducted, seven with the commune administrations and one with the central IT-department. The selection was made through a convenience selection in which a total of fifteen persons were interviewed, thirteen from the commune and two from the central IT-department. The interviews were carried out with the help of semi-structured interviews, where seven interviews were conducted at the commune building and one at a distance with the central IT-department. The interviews were recorded and transcribed. The results of the interviews were analyzed and interpreted by theme analysis. The result also shows that collaboration on digitization between small communes is preferable to running the work of a small commune by its own. Collaboration as an organizational model has made it easier for communes to attract qualified skills, share knowledge, find common solutions and manage development together. There have also been areas where the communes today do not cooperate or have not come a long way in the collaborative work related to unclear governance and poor communication. The consequence of this has been that some solutions have become more expensive and that the collaboration work did not work as efficiently as the other areas.   The study came to the following conclusions: - The level of communication varies depending on the area of administration - Clear control and organizational structure is needed to achieve a functioning communication in the collaboration group - Control needs to be done through an organizational structure that clarifies the roles, responsibilities and mandates of the parties - Continuous communication has a crucial role for a functioning collaboration

Så lockar vi med miljön : en undersökning av inredningsstrategier på folkbibliotekets barnavdelning / This is how we create attractive environments : an investigation of design strategies in the children’s area in public libraries

Jaros, Lina January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this study is to gain knowledge on the way library managers and librarians describe intentions and ways of working as well as their thoughts on what makes an attractive children’s interior design of public libraries. It is also an aim to acquire knowledge on the way they describe how the interior design works in practice. Two theoretical models are used in the study. One is Stephen Kaplan’s model of environmental psychology, which explains how visual aspects of an environment affects human preference. The other is that of Jochumsen, Hvenegaard Rasmussen & Skot-Hansen, which involve experiences and activities connected to the library context. The methods used are semi-structured interviews and qualitative content analysis. The results indicate the aim towards a safe, accessible interior, which fits children’s needs and requests, and also appeals to their parents. The respondents describe an interior that supports reading promotion, and being stimulating and varied, both in form and in content. A strive for a balance in the interior design is indentified. However, sometimes conflicts and other difficulties arise from its use. This can disrupt the balance, and why it results in priorities. The conclusion is that it is difficult to meet all of the guidelines and expectations that are available to children’s libraries today, to strike a balance with the interior design, and succeed in an interior that is ultimate in all respects.
