Mobilising innovation as an organisational competence in selected Namibian companies

Ondanks wye belangstelling en volop literatuur, verstaan baie organisasies ongelukkig nog nie hoe om innoverend te wees nie. Innovasie is ‘n ingewikkelde konsep wat nie altyd behoorlik verstaan word of toegepas word nie. Hierdie navorsing verken die benutting van innovasie vir mededingende voordele deur dit ’n kernbevoegdheid van die organisasie te maak. Hierdie studie is op ‘n gevallestudie-strategie gegrond, en gebruik semigestruktureerde en ongestruktureerde individuele onderhoude, waarneming en dokumentêre ontledings om data in te samel. Drie gevallestudie-organisasies is doelspesifiek gekies uit organisasies wat in Namibië gebaseer is, en onderhoude is met twaalf mense oor die hiërargie van elke organisasie gevoer. Hierdie mense is op grond van doelgerigte en kriterium-gebaseerde steekproefneming gekies. ‘n Literatuurstudie is onderneem om vorige navorsing oor innovasie in konteks te plaas, en om ’n oorsig te kry van die huidige stand van innovasie-verwante navorsing. Literatuur oor die onderwerp van kernbevoegdhede met spesifieke verwysing na die verwantskap tussen kernbevoegdhede en strategie, en gevolglik ook innovasie as ‘n kernbevoegdheid van ‘n organisasie, is ook bestudeer. ‘n Spesifieke model vir die benutting van innovasie as ‘n organisatoriese bevoegdheid is deur die literatuurstudie geïdentifiseer. Hierdie model sluit ‘n raamwerk van sewe elemente in wat as tersaaklik beskou word vir die vestiging van ’n innovasievermoë in ‘n organisasie. Die toepaslikheid van die model ten opsigte van die gebruik daarvan om innovasie as ’n kernbevoegdheid van ’n organisasie te vestig en die tersaaklikheid van die sewe elemente vir die model is getoets teen die inligting wat in die gevallestudie-organisasies ingesamel is. Die bevindinge dui daarop dat die pragmatiese formulering en belyning van 'n organisasie se strategie, kernbevoegdhede en innoveringspraktyke tot groter mededingendheid kan lei. Daar is ook bevind dat die voorgestelde innovasievermoëmodel meriete het om innovasie as ’n kernbevoegdheid van die organisasie te vestig. Dit blyk ook dat die grootte van ‘n organisasie nie ‘n determinant is vir die toepaslikheid van die model nie. Dit kom ook voor of al sewe elemente van die raamwerk tot ’n mate tersaaklik is vir die aanwending van die innovasievermoëmodel. Die kombinasie van die elemente kan egter verskil. Daarby kan die tersaaklikheid en toepaslikheid van die elemente ook van mekaar verskil. Dit is egter noodsaaklik dat ‘n organisasie verstaan hoe die innovasievermoëmodel werk en ook dat die model by ‘n organisasie se strategie inkorporeer word om sodoende die praktyke en prosesse in plek te stel wat die elemente van die raamwerk vereis. Alle organisasies is inherent innoverend. Hierdie innoveringsvermoë moet net op die korrekte wyse benut en bestuur word – deur die innovasievermoëmodel te gebruik – om sodoende die innoveringsvermoë aan te wend tot die volle potensiaal daarvan. Organisasies moet ook in ag neem dat die doelwit om innovasie as ‘n kernbevoegdheid te vestig, is nie ‘n korttermyn ambisie nie, die organisasie moet die voldoende wil hê om innovasie ’n kernbevoegdheid van die organisasie te maak, en die hele organisasie moet hierby betrek word. Omdat hierdie studie op ‘n gevallestudie-ontwerp gegrond is, word die veralgemeenbaarheid van die bevindinge tot die drie gevallestudie-organisasies beperk. Hierdie navorsingstudie is hoogstens verkennend van aard omdat dit van beperkte steekproewe gebruik gemaak het. Verdere navorsing is nodig om dieper insig te verkry in die konsepte wat in hierdie studie behandel is, om ’n model of raamwerk te ontwikkel vir die belyning van strategie, kernbevoegdhede en innovasie, en ook om ’n praktiese en betroubare manier te vind om innovasievermoë te meet. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Abstract Innovation is one of the most significant strategic approaches an organisation can exploit to gain a competitive advantage. Unfortunately, despite broad interest and a vast literature, understanding of innovative behaviour in organisations remains relatively undeveloped. Innovation is a complicated concept that is not always well understood or applied. This study explores how innovation can be exploited for competitive benefits by making it a core competence of the organisation. This study made use of a case study strategy, utilising semi-structured and unstructured individual interviews, observation and documentary analysis to collect data. Three case study organisations were purposefully selected from Namibian-based organisations, and twelve people across the hierarchy of each organisation were interviewed, selected on the basis of purposeful and criterion-based sampling. A literature review was also conducted in order to put the past research done on innovation into context and to review the current state of affairs of innovation-related research. The literature on the topic of core competencies, with a specific focus on the connection between core competencies and strategy, and subsequently innovation as a core competence of an organisation, was also reviewed. Through the literature review a specific model for utilising innovation as an organisational competence was identified. This model included a framework of seven elements that were found to be relevant for establishing an innovation capability (IC) within an organisation. The applicability of the model in terms of utilising it to establish innovation as a core competence of an organisation, and the relevance of the seven elements to the model, were then tested against the information collected in the case study organisations. The findings suggest that the formulation and alignment of an organisation’s strategy, core competencies and innovation practices in a pragmatic way can enable an organisation to become more competitive. The proposed innovation capability model was also found to have merit in terms of utilising this model to establish innovation as a core competence of an organisation and all seven elements of the framework seemed to be relevant to some extent with regards to the deployment of the innovation capability model. The size of an organisation was found not be a determinant in order for the model to be applicable. The combination of elements can be different and the relevance and applicability of the elements can differ from each other as well. It is also imperative that an organisation properly understands how the innovation capability model works and to incorporate the model into the organisation’s strategy in order to establish the practices and processes that the elements of the model require. All organisations are inherently innovative, this innovativeness just needs to be fostered and managed in the proper manner – through the innovation capability model – in order to exploit innovation to its fullest potential. Organisations must also realise that the pursuit of establishing innovation as a core competence is not a short-term ambition and the organisation need to have the proper intent to establish innovation as a core competence and this intent must be shared by the whole organisation. As the study employed a case study design, the generalisability of the findings is limited to the three case study organisations. This research study is, at best, an explorative one, as it used limited samples. Further research is necessary to gain more in-depth insights on the concepts discussed in the research study in order to develop a model or framework for aligning strategy, core competence and innovation and also to find a practical and reliable way of measuring innovation capability.

Toward innovation capability maturity

Thesis (PhD (Industrial Engineering))--University of Stellenbosch, 2009. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This research has its roots in Industrial Engineering, where the premise of improving and managing efficiency, effectiveness, productivity and quality is the most common and accepted source of organisational sustenance and furtherance. This dissertation, however, addresses the evolutionary and revolutionary imperatives of a new paradigm for competitive advantage – innovation. The notion of innovation is considered many things. First and foremost, however, it has become the primary differentiator of organisational competitiveness, rendering it the source of sustained long-term prosperity. What may seem ambiguous in the title of this dissertation is essentially the imperative of every organisation functioning within the competitive domain. Where organisational maturity and innovativeness were traditionally considered antonymous, the assimilation of these two seemingly contradictory notions is fundamental to the assurance of long-term organisational prosperity. Organisations are required, now more than ever, to grow and mature their innovation capability. In working towards the fulfilment of this objective, the Maturity Modelling approach was recognised for its ability to describe organisational progression in terms of innovation capability. An Innovation Capability Maturity Model, with the intention of describing generic and evolutionary plateaus of innovation capability maturity, was developed from a comprehensive literature study. This model was evaluated with an initial case study which led to a rigorous refinement initiative that included further literature study, a mapping and comparison exercise, and a detailed analysis of innovation capability themes using a Latent Dirichlet Allocation-based topic modelling approach. The consolidation of these activities and integration with the initial model resulted in the second version thereof – ICMM v2. This second version was then utilised in an additional 5 case studies that would serve to evaluate and validate the content and structure thereof, but also make a fundamental contribution to the application of the model – captured in the so called Innovation Capability Improvement Methodology. The case studies provide evidence that the content and structure of the ICMM v2, including the approach used to convey these aspects, fulfil their intended purpose by appropriately identifying the innovation capability strengths and weaknesses of the represented organisations. The ICMM v2 and accompanying methodology provides an organisation with a systematic approach for identifying organisational innovation capability strengths and weaknesses and a framework for identifying and prioritising innovation capability improvement opportunities in an organised and coordinated manner. This dissertation concludes with a few fundamental findings pertaining to innovation and a discussion of potential future collaboration and research opportunities. / AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Hierdie navorsingsprojek het sy oorsprong binne die bedryfsingenieursdomain. Bedryfsingenieurswese is primêr gerig op die verbetering en bestuur van doelmatigheid, doeltreffendheid, produktiwiteit en gehalte. Dit is voorts „n vry-algemeen aanvaarde bron van organisatoriese volhoubaarheid en verbetering van maatskappye. Hierdie navorsingsverslag spreek die evolusionêre en revolusionêre vereistes van „n nuwe paradigme vir mededingendheid, naamlik innovasie, aan. Die term innovasie beteken verskillende dinge vir verskillende mense. Dit is sedert die 1930‟s intensief nagevors. Meer onlangs het innovasie ontwikkel tot „n primêre onderskeider van maatskappy-mededingendheid. Dit is vinnig besig om te ontwikkel in „n sleutelbron van volhoubare, langtermyn welvaartskepping. Die titel van hierdie proefskrif mag aanvangklik dubbelsinnig klink, maar dit beskryf eintlik die fundamentele vereistes van elke organisasie wat binne die mededingendheidsdomain funksioneer. The Influence of Green Learning-Orientation, Capability, and Image on Performance

This study develops two researches to examine the influence of green concept on performance. The research I focuses on firm level. The research II focuses on consumer level. In the research I, the results show that (1) green learning-orientation is positively associated with proactive green innovation capability, (2) green learning-orientation is positively associated with firm performance, and (3) proactive green innovation capability is positively associated with firm performance. Thus, companies that are pioneers in green learning have the ability to enhance their innovation capability in terms of processes, products, and services and increase their performance. Additionally, proactive green innovation capability is also an important source of performance. In the research II, the results show that (1) green product quality is positively associated with green customer satisfaction and green customer loyalty; (2) green corporate image is positively associated with green customer satisfaction and green customer loyalty; and (3) green customer satisfaction is positively associated with green customer loyalty. The results indicate that green product quality can bring about green customer satisfaction and green customer loyalty. Additionally, green corporate image can contribute to green customer satisfaction and green customer loyalty.

Previous research has claimed that social capital influences innovation capabilities, yet not the extent of its dimensions (cognitive, relational and structural). This study addressed this research gap by a survey performed among ANPEI (Research and Development Nacional Association of Innovative Companies) members, specifically innovation managers from Brazilian and multinational companies from several sectors, operating in Brasil. 440 innovation managers from 220 companies during the period from December/2016 and January/2017 participated. An instrument with 24 items was designed to measure the independent and dependent variables. A web-based survey was created on QuestionPro Platform, to disseminate the survey through a link and collect data easily. The software SmartPLS 3 was used to treat the data as main analysis tool. It estimates PLS path models for the empirical validation of Theoretical model. The results showed that both cognitive, relational and structural dimensions of social capital affect positvelly the generation of innovation capability, but we found out that the structural social capital has a higher impact on the generation of innovation capability. We verified that R&D also affects positevly in the generation of Innovation Capability. / A inovação é um dos principais recursos para alcançar o sucesso nas organizações. Por meio de estudos anteriores, sabe-se que o capital social influencia as capacidades de inovação da firma, todavia ainda não foi medido o impacto de suas dimensões cognitiva, relacional e estrutural na capacidade de inovação da empresa. Este estudo aborda esta lacuna de pesquisa por uma pesquisa realizada com os membros da ANPEI (Associação Nacional de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento de Empresas Inovadoras), especificamente os gerentes de inovação, de empresas Brasileiras e multinacionais de diversos. Participaram da pesquisa 440 gerentes de inovação de 220 empresas no período de dezembro 2016 e janeiro 2017. Um instrumento com 24 itens foi projetado para medir as variáveis independentes e dependentes. A pesquisa foi criada na plataforma QuestionPro. A pesquisa foi disseminada através de um link e coletar dados com facilidade. O software SmartPLS 3 foi usado para tratar os dados como principal ferramenta de análise. Ele calculou Path coefficients para a validação empírica do modelo teórico. Os resultados confirmam que tanto as dimensões cognitivas, relacionais e estruturais do capital social afetam positivamente a geração da capacidade de inovação, mas descobrimos que o capital social estrutural tem um maior impacto na geração de capacidade de inovação. Verificamos que a existência de R & D também afeta de forma positiva a geração de Capacidade de Inovação

Organisaation innovaatiokyvyn johtamismalli:innovaatiokyvyn kehittäminen osana johtamisjärjestelmää

Abstract Over the past few years it has been discussed and written about in Finnish society how the foundation of Finland's future welfare and economic growth is based on an organisation's renewal and innovation capabilities. Decreasing the barriers of trade with its "China syndrome", international competition for taxes, growth and stabilisation treaties of the European Union, high-age structure, and so forth, create a national sense of necessity to excel in the field of international innovation development. Researching these demands have led to developing a "governance of organisational innovation capabilitis" based on existing theories and management doctrines, and empiria. The design embodies fields of know-how which can improve the organisation's innovation capabilities. These fields of knowledge consist of companionship and collaboration, knowledge of network skills, mastery of innovation acquiring processes and knowledge of using innovation stimuli. By cultivating these skills, the organisation will have an even better chance of achieving positive development in productivity and, under the circumstances, benefiting intangible capital. With the support of this design, the organisation will evolve and control its innovation capabilities according to the philosophy of continuous improvement. The governance consists of measuring methods and indicators developed in research and connected to existing management and reporting systems of the organisations. The organisation can also compare its own innovation capabilities in relation to other organisations for directing and building motivation configurations. The developed model was tested and evaluated in the Finnish infra-industry operational environment in six different ways. The model passed the tests, and by guesstimates can be applied in all organisations such as public utilities and business corporations. Equally, the model is suitable for different states of distribution channels. The model is being introduced extensively and is available for organisations on the internet. Most of the theoretical contribution was probably achieved through the functionality of the management system. Theoretical contribution also arose, because developing the intangible capital in organisations has been considered problematic, especially due to the lack of indicators and measuring methods. The model consists mainly of those indicators and methods created for this purpose. Also significant, on behalf of the theoretical contribution, was that by obtaining services, these organisations could develop their own innovation capabilities at the same time by combining challenging innovation combinations. Extensive material related to the acquisition affairs helps in any case to understand the relations between methods and outcome. The result of the study was able to reflect several links with the existing theory. One point of reflection was that with the help of the model, organisations could reduce the uncertainties detected in the organisational- and economic theories, which are connected to the selecting of partners and acquisition affairs. / Tiivistelmä Suomalaisessa yhteiskunnassa on viime vuosien aikana puhuttu ja kirjoitettu paljon siitä, että Suomen taloudellisen hyvinvoinnin ja talouskasvun perustana on tulevaisuudessa organisaatioiden uudistumis- ja innovaatiokyky. Kaupan esteiden vähentyminen "Kiina-ilmiöineen", kansainvälinen verokilpailu, EU:n kasvu- ja vakauttamissopimukset, korkea ikärakenne ja monet muut tekijät aiheuttavat kansallisen paineen olla kansainvälisen innovaatiokehityksen kärjessä. Kansainvälisessä kilpailussa korkean palkkatason kansantalous ja sen organisaatiot voivat menestyä markkinoilla vain innovoimalla - kehittämällä jatkuvasti entistä parempia tuotteita, menettelytapoja ja palvelua. Näistä tarpeista lähtien tutkimuksessa kehitettiin olemassa olevan teorian ja liikkeenjohdon oppien sekä empirian avulla "organisaation innovaatiokyvyn johtamismalli". Malli sisältää osaamisalueita, joihin panostamalla organisaatio voi parantaa innovaatiokykyään. Osaamisalueet ovat kumppanuus- ja sopimusyhteistyöosaaminen, verkostotaitojen osaaminen, innovatiivisen hankintaprosessin osaaminen ja innovaatiokannusteiden käytön osaaminen. Näitä kehittämällä organisaatiolla on entistä paremmat mahdollisuudet saavuttaa positiivista tuottavuuskehitystä ja hyötyä näin ollen aineettoman varallisuutensa kehittymisestä. Mallin avulla organisaatio pystyy kehittämään ja hallitsemaan innovaatiokykyään jatkuvan parantamisen filosofian mukaisesti. Johtamismalli sisältää mittausmenettelyt ja tutkimuksessa kehitetyt mittarit sekä näiden kytkennät organisaatioiden olemassa oleviin johtamisjärjestelmiin. Organisaatio voi myös verrata omaa innovaatiokykyään suhteessa muihin organisaatioihin ja hyödyntää tietoa oman organisaation johtamisessa ja motivaatioasetelmien rakentamisessa. Kehitettyä mallia testattiin ja arvioitiin suomalaisessa infra-alan toimintaympäristössä kuudella eri tavalla. Malli läpäisi suoritetut testit, ja arvioiden mukaan sitä voidaan hyödyntää kaikissa organisaatioissa niin julkisella alalla kuin yrityksissäkin. Yhtä lailla malli sopii käytettäväksi arvoketjun eri vaiheissa. Mallia ollaan ottamassa laajasti käyttöön ja kehitetty malli on organisaatioiden saatavilla Internetin kautta osoitteessa: http://www.innovaatiomittaus.fi. Teoreettista kontribuutiota saavutettiin ehkä eniten johtamismallin toimivuuden ansiosta. Teoreettista kontribuutiota syntyi myös siitä, että aineettoman varallisuuden kehittämistä organisaatioissa on pidetty ongelmallisena nimenomaan mittareiden ja mittausmenetelmien puuttumisen vuoksi. Malli sisältää monia tätä tarkoitusta palvelevia mittareita ja mittausmenetelmän. Merkittävää teoreettisen kontribuution osalta oli myös se, että organisaatiot hankkiessaan palveluita voivat samalla kehittää omaa innovaatiokykyään yhdistämällä hankintoihinsa haasteellisia innovaatioasetelmia. Laaja hankintatoimeen liittyvä aineisto auttaa muutenkin ymmärtämään keinon ja lopputuloksen suhteita. Tutkimuksen tuloksia pystyttiin reflektoimaan myös olemassa olevaan teoriaan usean kiinnekohdan kautta. Yhtenä reflektointikohtana oli se, että mallin avulla organisaatiot pystyvät vähentämään organisaatio- ja talousteorioissa havaittuja epävarmuuksia, jotka liittyvät kumppaneiden valintaan ja organisaation hankintatoimeen.

Measuring innovation as a strategic objective allows companies to gauge their performance and  stay competitive. This study examines how the introduction of a metrics-oriented governance  tool can be used to strengthen the innovation performance in an industrial setting. Key  dimensions of capabilities for innovation are identified, and the role of measurement in allowing  a company to become more innovative is discussed. The core findings of the study suggest that  the most prominent innovation capabilities are cross-functional collaboration, organisational  culture, knowledge integrating mechanisms and the existence of a formulated innovation strategy.  These capabilities should not be measured or analysed separately as they depend on each other.  Therefore the set of metrics proposed in this study are meant to provide a holistic view of the  wide range of capabilities that together form the basis for the companies innovativeness.   From a practice-oriented perspective, the thesis aims to build on these two sets of analysis to  propose a set of metrics for the monitoring of innovation capabilities at a specific large,  Swedish-based industrial company. The analysis of the innovation capabilities at the case  company serves as a diagnostary basis for understanding the issues regarding the organisations  innovativeness. A need for further research on how the innovation strategy can be aligned with  the business strategy of the company would be beneficial is also identified. / Genom att mäta innovation som ett strategiskt mål kan företag utvärdera sin prestationsförmåga  samt vidhålla sin konkurrenskraft. Den här studien undersöker hur introduktionen av ett  mätorienterat styrmedel kan stärka innovationsförmågan hos ett företag, verksamt i en industriell  miljö. Därav identifieras nyckelfaktorer som utgör ett företags innovationsförmåga samt  diskuteras rollen som mätning spelar i företagets innovationsarbete. Studien lyfter fram  tvärfunktionellt samarbete, organisationskultur, kunskapsintegrerande mekanismer samt att ha en  formulerad innovationsstrategi som de viktigaste faktorerna för företagets innovationsförmåga.  Dessa faktorer bör inte mätas separat då de till stor del beror av varandra. Därför ämnar de  mätetal som föreslås i den här studien att skapa en holistisk bild av den mängd faktorer som  tillsammans utgör företagets innovationsförmåga.  Praktiskt innebär detta att studien tar avstamp i två analysområden för att föreslå en samling  mätetal som kan användas för att överblicka innovationsförmågan hos ett specifikt större  industriellt företag. Analysen av faktorerna bakom företagets innovationsförmåga bygger en  teoretisk bas för tolkandet av identifierade innovationsproblem inom organisationen. Författarna  identifierar även ett behov av vidare studier som undersöker hur företagets innovationsstrategi  kan sammanlänkas med affärsstrategin.

Innovation measurement is one of the most essential aspects in building innovation capability as it allows organisations to capture their current innovation capabilities and understand where they need to direct their efforts to improve. Further, measuring the innovation capability enables a data driven and insightful steering management. To succeed, incumbent organisations need to understand the KSF for innovation capability and internalise them.The purpose of this study is to investigate how incumbent telecom firms can use innovation measurement to improve their innovation capability. This was done through identifying KSF for innovation capability, reviewing existing innovation measurement frameworks and then, compare and analyse the findings to empirical data - from a case study at a major telecom operator.This paper is of an interdisciplinary nature and combines the theories of innovation capability, service innovation and innovation measurement. The methods used are qualitative, including a literature review, a focus group and 19 semi-structured interviews. The thesis resulted in six KSF for innovation capability in incumbent telecom firms, which was applied in an innovation measurement framework. The main challenges associated with these KSF are also identified and concrete proposals, for improving the innovation capability through using innovation measurement, are presented. Major contributions are of both theoretical and empirical character.The thesis contributes to the research field of how innovation capability can be measured and improved, through using multidimensional metrics, in incumbent firms working with high-tech service innovation. It also provides valuable empirical data around how innovation measurement can be interpreted and used, to improve innovation capability in an industrial context. / Innovationsmätning anses vara en av de viktigaste aspekterna för att bygga en stark innovationsförmåga eftersom det ger en förståelse för den nuvarande innovationsförmågan och för hur organisationer kan prioritera resurser och aktiviteter för att förbättra innovationsförmågan. För att lyckas behöver dessa företag förstå vilka som är de avgörande faktorerna för innovationsförmåga och sedan internalisera dessa.Syftet med studien är att förstå hur stora, etablerade telekombolag kan använda innovationsmätning för att förbättra sin innovationsförmåga. Detta har gjorts genom att först identifiera de avgörande faktorerna för innovationsförmåga, granska existerande ramverk för att mäta innovation. Sedan har detta jämförts med undersökningsresultatet från den genomförda fallstudien på ett ledande, svenskt telekombolag. Studien är av interdisciplinär natur och kombinerar teorier inom innovationsförmåga, tjänsteinnovation och innovationsmätning.Studien resulterade i sex avgörande faktorer för utveckling av innovationsförmåga i stora, etablerade företag inom telekomsektorn. Dessa tillämpas sedan i ett ramverk för innovationsmätning. De huvudsakliga utmaningarna kopplade till dessa faktorer har också identifierats och konkreta förslag för att förbättra innovationsförmågan genom tillämpning av innovationsmätning presenteras.Bidragen från denna studie är av både teoretisk och empirisk karaktär. Studien bidrar till forskningen kring hur innovationsförmåga hos traditionella företag som arbetar med högteknologiska tjänster kan utvärderas och förbättras genom att använda flerdimensionella mätvärden. Den bidrar även med viktiga empiriska data kring hur innovationsmätning kan förstås och användas för att förbättra innovationsförmåga i en industriell kontext.

Para atender a questão de pesquisa e os objetivos do estudo, utitilizou-se a abordagem das capacidades dinâmicas que apresenta as capacidades dinâmicas necessárias para auxiliar o desenvolvimento da capacidade de inovação e mostra como essas capacidades dinâmicas podem ser desenvolvidas para suportar a capacidade de inovação. No decorrer do estudo, verificou-se que essa abordagem esclarece como desenvolver a capacidade de inovação, mas não explica como alavancar a sustentabilidade empresarial. Devido a essa limitação, recorreu-se a abordagem da inovação sustentável que apresenta elementos que ampliam o escopo de atuação da capacidade de inovação para além do pilar econômico, contemplando os pilares ambiental e social da sustentabilidade empresarial. Para essa pesquisa, foram realizados dois estudos de caso qualitativos com características exploratória e descritiva. Para os estudos de caso, foram selecionadas as Empresas Artecola que se destacam pelas inovações em produtos e processos, e o Hospital Mãe de Deus que se destaca pelas inovações em serviços e processos. Os dados foram coletados através de 19 entrevistas semiestruturadas com as pessoas indicadas pelas próprias empresas e por meio de documentos disponibilizados. Os dados foram analisados por meio da análise de conteúdo qualitativa com apoio do software NVivo versão 10. Esta tese propõe como principal resultado da pesquisa a necessidade de desenvolvimento da capacidade de inovação sustentável, integrando as abordagens das capacidades dinâmicas e da inovação sustentável para alavancar a sustentabilidade empresarial. / The present work analyses the development of innovation capability in a way of leveraging entrepreneurial sustainability. In order to answer the research question and the study goals, we have used the approach of dynamic capability, which presents the necessary capabilities to help the development of innovation capability and shows how these capabilities could be developed to support to innovation capability. Based on the research field, we have verified that this approach clarifies how to develop the innovation capability, but it did not explain how to leverage the entrepreneurial sustainability. Due to this limitation, we have run the approach of sustainable innovation, which presents elements that wide the branches of performance of innovation capabilities beyond the economic pillar, contemplating environmental and social issues of entrepreneurial sustainability. In this research, two studies over qualitative cases had been used with exploratory and descriptive characteristics. For the study of case, we selected two companies based on their experiences with innovation. More specifically, Artecola Enterprises have been selected due to its experience with product and process innovations, and Mãe de Deus Hospital due to its process and service innovations experience. Data have been collected on 19 semi structured interviews with people indicated by the enterprises themselves and through available documents. Data have been analyzed based on a qualitative contente analysis using NVivo version 10 software as a support. The main research results point out the necessity of developing sustainable innovation capabilities, including the approaches of dynamic capability and also sustainable innovation to leverage the entrepreneurial sustainability.

在電腦及其週邊產業,台灣是全球專業委託製造的重鎮。乍看之下毫不起眼的經營模式--代工,一直是台灣多數企業賴以為生的方式。從十多年前台灣的電腦工業萌芽以來,成本低、速度快,再加上產業結構完整,一直是委託製造的競爭優勢。以資訊硬體產業而言,近三年來代工所佔之比值為 66%、73 %、73.86%,且逐年增加中。近年來,台灣的 IC 產業亦走向晶圓代工之專業委託製造,所佔的比例亦佔 IC 產值 45% 以上,同時也不斷在提高。回顧整個台灣資訊電子產業之成長史,不難發現與代工息息相關。 為何我們能在成本快速的降低、不斷推出新產品呢?依據知識管理觀點,研究者認為台灣廠商必定在此建構了某種程度之專業與知識,如此才能在眾多的競爭者下脫穎而出。因此,本研究將以資訊電子及 IC 代工產業為主體,以知識管理觀點回答以下問題:代工類型分為那幾類?不同類型下之知識流通方式為何?累積之何種知識?以及對創新能力之影響?並希望能由台灣代工模式之發展歷程,提出其演化模式。 研究發現包括以下數點:1)代工模式除了以 OEM 及 ODM 劃分,可以由知識管理角度劃分為 「準整合型」、「合作型」、「寄生型」攻 「準買賣型」四種類型;2)代工買主之知識專精度及代工買主評估權重組合會影響代工之合作模式;3)代工合作是知識引入之重要來源之一;4)不同代工模式下,其知識流通介面及關係維持機制不同;5)不同代工模式下,因為知識流通方式不同,其蓄積知識類型不同;6)不同代工模式下,其蓄積知識類型不同;7)代工模式具有動態演化之現象。

供應鏈整合策略、創新能力對供應鏈績效之影響 / The impact of supply chain integration strategy and innovation capabilities on supply chain performance

在全球競爭劇烈、市場迅速變化的環境下,企業能否在所屬產業的供應鏈中做適當且敏捷的調整,以維持創新與產品開發績效,成為影響企業競爭優勢的重要課題。一般供應鏈相關論文大多將供應鏈整合放入單一構面討論,較少研究能將其作進一步區分並探討構面內部可能的關係。本研究將供應鏈整合區分成企業內部與外部整合,且再將外部整合區分為供應商整合、顧客端整合,並根據相關文獻探討構面之間的關係。其中”整合”的意義有別於傳統的作業整合,強調在放眼中長期規劃的策略整合,進而形成供應鏈策略整合。依據資源基礎觀點,本研究探討供應鏈整合策略、創新能力對於企業供應鏈績效的影響。本研究資料來源為高績效工廠計畫 (High Performance Manufacturing,HPM),其中收集了歐、美、亞共八個國家,橫跨產業為高科技、機械、運輸三大製造業供應鏈訪查資料,本計畫總共訪問約238家廠商,其中有效問卷共199份。本研究計量方法採用近年逐漸被重視的偏最小平方法(Partial Least Squares),並使用SmartPLS工具做衡量。 研究結果顯示,企業內部整合對供應商整合有正向顯著性影響; 企業內部整合對顧客端整合有正向顯著性影響;供應商整合對創新能力有正向顯著性影響; 顧客端整合對創新能力影響不顯著;創新能力對供應鏈績效有正向顯著性影響; 創新能力在供應商整合與供應鏈績效有中介效果;創新能力在內部整合與供應鏈績效間具有中介效果。最後我們將論述本研究相關的管理意涵。 / Under intense global competition and rapidly changing market environment. It is an important issue for a company that whether can properly adapt and agile supply chain in their respective industry. In previous studies, most of them put supply chain integration (SCI) into a single dimension for discussion, However, it causes too many sub-constructs and questions to distinguish actual cause effect in single dimension. In this case, we separate a supply chain integration from a single dimension into multiple dimensions, which are internal integration, customer integration and supplier inte- gration , and related reviews are discussed in this thesis. This study also focus on long term vision of strategy integration instead of tradition operational integration to form our supply chain integration strategy. From Resource Based View, we would like to discuss how supply chain integration strategy can generate a unique capability, which is innovative capability, and impact supply chain performance in a company. This study is based on the High Performance Manufacturing (HPM) project database collected from 238 manufacturing plants in eight countries and three representative industries (machinery, electronics and transportation components), using Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) methods. In our research result indicate as following: Internal integration is positively related to supplier integration. Internal integration is positively related customer integration. Innovation capability is positively related to supply chain performance. Innovation capability has indirect effect between internal integration and supply chain performance. Innovative capability has indirect effect between supplier integration and supply chain performance.
