The Current Status of Immigration in Sweden : a reality-based assessment

Ibragic, Aida, Pater, Cristian January 2014 (has links)

Balci Dirik, Max Taylan, Tesfazghi, Tegsti January 2014 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to investigate, understand and reflect on the factors that may have contributed to six individuals, who upon arrival were counted as unaccompanied refugee, integration into Swedish society. In order to answer our questions, we have chosen to use a qualitative approach which permitts a deeper understanding for ourselves as well as obtaining their subjective experiences of their integration. We based our analysis on five scientific papers and theories and concepts such as; Angel & Hjern (2004) Refugee Crisis Model, Beckman (2011) Integration Theory, Kamalis (2006), "We" and "Them" theory, Goffman (2006) Stigma theory and Berger & Luckmann (2008) Socializations theory. The results showed that the respondents felt that the language was an important factor in the integration and that the host family had a great significance for them. The respondents think that all unaccompanied refugee should take part of living with a host family. Keywords: Unaccompanied refugee children, Socialization, Integration, Stigma.

"Moslem" and "Negro" groupings on Tyneside : a comparative study of social integration in terms of intra-group and inter-group relations

Collins, Sydney Fitzgerald January 1952 (has links)
The coloured population in Britain tend to settle in her main ports and form distinct social groupings. Their origin and development are similar in most cases. The core of these settlements was established by coloured seamen and their population grew by gradual increases during normal periods and by large influxes of various categories of coloured men, resulting from two world wars. The groups also increased in size and were stabilized by miscegenation between the immigrants and white women or British born coloured women. Only during the last twenty-five years has interest been aroused in sociological studies of this section of the British population. Little's survey of the Cardiff Negro community is the first comprehensive study of its kind in the United Kingdom. Since then, studies have been made by Richmond, Silberman and Spice; and others are in progress. Little traced the historical development of colour prejudice in Britain from 1660 A.D. to the present time. He pointed out the social and cultural factors giving rise to these attitudes, and how they operate against coloured people resident in Britain to-day. Silberman and Spice made a study of the relationship between coloured and white children in six Liverpool schools by applying the 'Friendship and Rejection' psychological tests. From the results obtained, they concluded that prejudice is not generally experienced by mixed racial groups of children. Richmond was concerned with the adjustment and assimilation of West Indian workers into British society. He calls his investigation a case history study based mainly on records of individual case files and other reports and documents. A number of interviews were also made. He has shown how economic insecurity and 'stereotype' influence racial prejudice. His main thesis, however, is to show the correlation between the high degree of skill in the West Indian worker and his adjustment to British society. The relevance of these studies to the problem of social integration is obvious. As Little has shown, colour prejudice is one of the principal obstacles to the assimilation of coloured minorities into British society. His work is a major contribution to the field of race relations as it establishes a base from which other racial problems may be investigated. Richmond's research is concerned with one category of coloured people only, that is, selected West Indians who were skilled men. The data is of value to this study for purposes of comparison with the adjustment of other categories and groups of coloured persons, such as workers who are unskilled or are of other ethnic groups. The findings of Silberman and Spice would have been more convincing had the data been more adequate. Nevertheless, the study sheds light on an important aspect of race relations. These studies, with the exception of the last mentioned, are concerned primarily with Negroes. The Moslem population had still to be examined.

Public service integration in Kazakhstan : the case of one stop shop

Janenova, Saltanat January 2010 (has links)
This thesis is an analysis of the public service integration, a New Public Management initiative, in a transitional context such as Kazakhstan. This thesis focuses on three main perspectives – the impact of the service integration policy on those who was involved in the implementation process; the problematic aspects of service integration in a transitional context; and the use of “organisational learning” and “communities of practice” in analysing service integration. By combining New Public Management theory (in particular, the ideas on decentralising management and customer-orientation), service integration theory and organisational learning theories, and rich empirical data, this thesis found that public service integration was implemented in the Kazakhstani context to a limited extent. Through the use of triangulation of methods which incorporated case study, interviews, participant observation, virtual ethnography and documentary analysis, this thesis captured complex, non-linear and diverse power dimensions and relationships between the new single-window centres, traditional service providers and customers. The development of the “communities of practice” among the front-line personnel was analysed within service integration policy context. Promoting service integration is seen as beneficial for both service providers and customers in Kazakhstan, but there are both conceptual and practical challenges. Although significant progress in public service improvement was achieved and noted in the research, this thesis found that the One Stop Shops inherited relations-based, patronage system and corruption from the traditional bureaucracy. It found that the new technologies, while improving access to the public services, were used to extend centralised control across the regions. This thesis also found that organisational learning did take place, however, in the underdeveloped form of adaptive learning, with the lack of critical reflection on the existing ways of working. This thesis concluded that the institutional framework and culture prevailing in the Kazakhstani traditional bureaucracy constrained implementation of the service integration policy to a full extent.

Nylund Hansson, Karolina January 2016 (has links)

On Bounded Variation

Lewis, Paul Weldon 08 1900 (has links)
This paper is primarily concerned with developing the theory of real-valued functions of bounded variation and those ideas which are closely related to this main topic. In addition to this, some emphasis has been placed on the relationship of the theory of functions of bounded variation to specific areas of analysis. In particular, integration theory has been chosen as the vehicle to demonstrate this connection.

Ett fritidshems mottagande av flyktingbarn

Haseeb, Nawal January 2016 (has links)
During the last years many new refugees have arrived in Sweden, many of these are children. In media there has been many debates on how this would affect the schools in general. In this thesis I have chosen to examine how the schools recreation centres adopt their operations to cope with the newly arrived pupils with a starting point in the official curriculum. The study is based on interviews at two school recreation centres in Stockholm who have received newly arrived pupils who do not speak Swedish. The result shows that the recreational centres have not really used any specific model to plan their operations. One model that could be used by the recreational centres and their work with newly arrived pupils is the so-called STOP-model.

Morocco: A case study in the structural basis of social integration

Hagopian, Elaine Catherine January 1962 (has links)
Thesis (Ph.D.)--Boston University. / The purpose of the study is twofold: (1) to bring into objective focus the actual problems many new nations of America now face--i.e. those attendant to the process of building rapidly modern unitary societies from previously segmented, illiterate and primarily tradition-oriented populations; and (2) to broaden and develop social science theory to deal with this relatively new phenomenon. Morocco is our case study. It is immediately recognized that in order for any society, in sociological terms, to exist as an on-going system, it must have a minimal degree of social integration. The concept of social integration has been developed and defined in the context of already established societies. It implies, of course; that a social structure exists and that part of that social structure is devoted to integrative functions [TRUNCATED]
