Estratégias de negócios sustentáveis em empresas industriais do setor mineral de gemas e joias / Business strategies for sustainable industrial companies in the mineral industry of gems and jewelry

Palma, Eliete Pozzobon 08 August 2011 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Environmental changes have created new requirements and conditions for industrial activity in Brazil, highlighting the need for exploration of the aspects related to sustainable development and expansion into new markets. This study aimed to understand how the adoption of sustainable management strategies influence the export performance of Brazilian internationalized industrial sector of Gems and Jewelry. The sustainable strategies were evaluated from the adaptation of the strategic model of the Batelle American Institute, presented by Placet, Anderson and Fowler (2005), which addresses the interaction of economic, social and environmental aspects, considering innovation as perspective, reflected in the company and in society. The export performance was analyzed through the adaptation of the model of Papadopoulos and Martin (2010) that develops and evaluates a formative measure of export performance, identifying and quantifying the relative contribution of its consequences concerning the economic and strategic dimensions. The research is characterized as qualitative and exploratory, and was carried out through semi-structured interviews in the industrial internationalized sector of gems and jewelry as well as quantitative and descriptive, given that subjects responded to a survey. Data was analyzed by univariate and bivariate correlation test and Spearman's Rho. Such tests allow to understand which sustainable management practices of the model are being added in the industrial sector, and which dimensions of sustainable development affect the export performance of companies in the gems and jewelry sector, establishing the correlations of greater significance. The results may contribute to a better understanding of such sector, pointing out which each year has contributed to the positive balance of trade. The actions in the international market of surveyed companies are in the early stages of internationalization. The changes offered by the internationalization of the industrial companies of the sector are felt and influence the strategic management and growth of companies.

[en] THE USE OF LASER WELDING FOR THE CREATION AND PRODUCTION OF JEWEL / [pt] EMPREGO DA SOLDA A LASER NA CRIAÇÃO E PRODUÇÃO DE JÓIAS

ANA NEUZA BOTELHO VIDELA 24 February 2010 (has links)
[en] The technology of laser welding is beginning to be widely used by large industries of the Brazilian jewelry industry. However, due to its high value, it is only used by larger companies. The objective of this research was to examine the influence of the use of laser welding to promote innovation in design, or check the contribution of technology to the creation and production of jewelry. Through a literature search, where we analyze the jewel design using the concept of innovation, and an action research - methodology that provided the researcher s participation in consultations to businesses, check if access to laser technology can promote innovation in design of jewelry, here understood as differences in configuration, high quality and / or reducing the duration of the production process.

Manifesterad grupptillhörighet i gotländska gravar? : Intersektionell tolkning av vikingatidens gotländska smyckesuppsättningar / Groupe manifestation in Gotlandic graves? : Intersectional interpretation of Gotlandic Viking jewelry constellations.

Theidz, Emilia January 2021 (has links)
The thesis aim is to discuss the Gotlandic jewelry constellations and the difference in the jewelry assemblies between five Viking Age burial grounds on the island from an intersectional perspective. Differences or alikeness between the burial grounds are meant to highlight or decline a possible group dynamic on the island where different subgroups could be detected in an overall Gotlandic group. The subgroups could be a result of trad or local expression that show up in the jewelry constellations and by that means highlight an expression beyond the Gotlandic grouping. Following questions is discussed in relation to the different jewelry constellations in the graves, is there any differences between the jewelry constellations on the analyzed burial grounds that could indicate more than one group in the Gotlandic population during the Viking Age? How can different genders be visible in the jewelry constellations of feminine and masculine graves on the five burial grounds? If more than one group can be detected, is it possible to interpret a difference in possibility to express gender in the jewelry constellations between the burial grounds? The Gotlandic feminine jewelry has been interpreted as specific for Gotland during the Viking Age and has been discussed to show an overall group on the island. In relation to this, the five analyzed burial grounds show about a third of the graves having no jewelry in the graves and a varying jewelry constellation in the feminine graves. The thesis discussion shows a possible difference even between the jewelry in masculine graves on the burial grounds that has been analyzed which earlier studies have not highlighted. The result shows a variation both between the five burial grounds but also between the individuals. What earlier has been understood as the traditional Gotlandic feminine jewelry constellation has in the analyzes been shown to relate quite little to the actual material. Few feminine individuals have been buried with the traditional jewelry constellation, more often are they buried with a few Gotlandic jewelry items and with varying placements in the graves. In summary, the five burial grounds show a variation in local tradition and manifestations related to the Gotlandic grouping.

A Pursuance of Self

Albert, Kassidy 01 December 2023 (has links) (PDF)
The self portrait is a consistent aspect of art history, with many artists returning to it again and again across their lives. This project intends to explore the function of the self portrait. Through research and execution of artwork, the artist has found that the self portrait has multiple functions, including: a practice of anatomy; a display of status, skill, and likeness; an outlet for emotion; and a place for psychological confrontation. Across the life of this project, the artist completed twenty-two self portraits in a variety of styles and materials.

Jewellery store robbery: a victim risk and intervention perspective

Zannoni, Elio 30 April 2008 (has links)
The exploratory study investigated jewellery store robbery from a victim risk and intervention perspective. An explanation of the phenomenon was offered based on the information obtained from a review of the existing literature, case studies, personal observations at jewellery stores, discussions with jewellers, a scientific questionnaire submitted to jewellers, and semi-structured and structured interviews conducted with a group of knowledgeable respondents and victimised jewellers respectively. A predominantly quantitative research method was applied. The research findings obtained during the study enabled a proposal for a jewellery store robbery intervention model based on the situational crime prevention perspective, which is inclusive of decisional, environmental, situational, procedural, personnel and business-oriented strategies. / Criminology / M.A. (Criminology)

Beneath the raptor’s wings : the avian composition grasping the symbol for eternity in Egypt

Klop, Damian J.R. 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MPhil (Ancient Studies)--University of Stellenbosch, 2008. / A particular motif in Egyptian art is that of avians. This is frequently depicted in a significant number and variety of visual sources from the tomb of Tutankhamun (KV 62) (1336-1327 BC) and other find contexts throughout Egyptian history from c. 3000 BC, but is little understood. The motif mostly depicts an avian creature with wings outstretched, talons grasping the Egyptian hieroglyph symbol for eternity (shen). In some instances the avian’s falcon or vulture body or parts of the body is/are replaced with parts of another creature, namely that of a snake, cobra, ram, human, duck, or a hieroglyph sign. A study was undertaken to assess how and why this avian motif was composed and what the function in Egyptian culture was. A manual search of published material for relevant visual sources depicting specific versions of the avian motif was undertaken and selected sources were indexed into a representative graphical database including one hundred and ninety-one items. Textual sources (academic literature and literature from ancient Egypt) were then consulted to support and/or expand on the iconographic, symbolic, and functional aspects of the motif: - At the iconographic level, the historical development and ‘structural dynamics’ of the motif are investigated to deduce the artistic rules that applied to its creation. - At the symbolic level, the symbolic meaning of the artwork is ascertained by theorizing on the meaning of the motif and its parts in an Egyptian context. - At the functional level, the function of the artwork is ascertained by investigating how the motif’s symbolism was intended to be applied to benefit the individual. The results of this research is that the avian motif developed over time according to strict artistic rules; that it symbolized the king, eternity and protection; and that its function was to protect the king in all phases of his existence in a political and mythological context in order to ensure that the he would attain an eternal life in the afterlife. In the mind of the ancient Egyptian this was achieved through the transference of the avian motif’s magical qualities to the user. The intended outcome of this study is to highlight the avian motif’s importance in the context of the ancient Egyptian culture.

Juwelierskuns en transformasie

Marais, Inge 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MA (VA)(Visual Arts. Jewellery Design))--University of Stellenbosch, 2008. / In this thesis I explore my jewellery practice as a transformative process. I suggest that the handling of material can be described in alchemistic terms as a process that is primarily aimed at the transformation of the alchemist him/herself. This view is applicable to jewellers who employ an alchemistic approach to their own practice. I will demonstrate this point by dividing my exploration into three sections, namely transformation of material (which also entails the transformation of value), transformation of meaning, and finally, the ritualistic process of transformation as a transformative element.

Speelse plastiek : kontemporere juweliersware as bricolage : ’n praktyk-gebaseerde ondersoek

Labuschagne, Elizabeth Jacomina 04 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MA(VA))--Stellenbosch University, 2014. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This thesis investigates adults who play. Through my investigation, I discovered that play for adults is not distraction or a waste of time as is generally accepted. It is a basic need and necessary for survival. Although there are different forms of play, such as sport matches, hobbies and gambling, I specifically focus on play where objects can be created. This type of play is inherently more creative and stimulates lateral thinking. In play there is a freedom and safe environment which is not necessarily tied to reality. At the same time it is a self-reflective discovery process which stimulates brain activity. In my practice I use plastic bags as an accessible and malleable material to design and make contemporary jewellery. It is a way to act as an active agent in the world, rather than a passive consumer. The discussion of my art pieces forms the primary research of the thesis and is supported by theoretical research. In the process of making a deeper understanding and knowledge is extracted, which can be established through ritual play. New connections are formed in the brain and contrasting ideas can be linked which would otherwise not have happened. Play has value because it does not only stay in ‘play state’. It can spill over to the confrontation, questioning and uniting of the sociological, economical, cultural and political contrasts in my immediate South African environment. Consequently play contributes to our ability to adapt, process everyday contradictions (such as social inequality) and find creative solutions. Furthermore, it possesses the potential to contribute to our social wellbeing, happiness, trust, the will to share and to live empathetically.
