Rationalising a decision - Analysing the development of a tramway in Lund

Allansson, Jakob January 2019 (has links)
This thesis aim is to study the planning documents for the tramway in Lund from a perspective of power and rationality. The empirical material used has been studied using critical discourse analysis, departing from the ideas of Fairclough (2010), Winther Jørgensen and Philips (2000) and Watt Bolsen (2007). The discourse analysis resulted in four themes that were predominant in the empirical material. These themes are passenger attraction, economic rationalities, prognosis and attractive urban environment. These are used as the base for the analysis of power and rationality. The analysis of power and rationality depart from a Foucauldian perspective of power. The main perspective used in this thesis is inspired by Flyvbjerg’s (1998) ten propositions of the relation between power and rationality. Where power influence rationality and rationality is embedded by power. The relation between power and rationality is according to Flyvbjerg asymmetrical, and when rationality and reason are confronted, reason yields to power (Flyvbjerg, 1998, p. 228ff). The findings of the analysis of power and rationality present examples from the empirical material where power seeks to define knowledge and reality, as well as examples of powers strategy to blur the line between rationality and rationalisation. This view on the strategies, operations and rationalities of power are also shared by scholars such as Richardson (2004) and Fox-Rogers and Murphy (2014). The ambition of the analysis of power and rationality is not to find out a ‘what’ but to understand ‘how’ power and rationality is presented in the planning documents related to the development of a tramway in Lund. Finally, this thesis discusses the findings from both the discourse analysis as well as the analysis of rationality and power from a wider social perspective. Placing the findings of the discourse analysis into a societal and institutional process, as well as arguing for other rationalities than the one found in the analysis of power and rationality to be valued more in the planning process.

Hofstedt, Göran, Gullstrand, Emma January 2006 (has links)
The essay takes its origin in the increased demand for products that has beenproduced in accordance with human rights. The essay treats the decision ofLund’s municipal executive board to recommend its different administrations touse Fair trade coffee and tea.The purpose of the essay is to see in which way, and to what extent thedecision has been implemented in the organization. For this purpose, we use anew institutional organizational theory's as theoretical frame of reference. Theempirical material in the essay consists of interviews with employees of theLund’s municipality. In addition to this, a background chapter has been added toexplain the substance of the term sustainable development, both from aninternational, national and local point of view.To conclude, there is a concrete intention within the municipality to embracethe meaning of the term sustainable development. The persons interviewed arepositive to the purpose of the current decision, but also believe that the will tochange unfortunately is being halted. Among other things, they point out differenteconomical and legislative factors. Despite this, they believe that the process iscurrent and most likely will expand.

Johansson, Wiktor January 2015 (has links)
During a short but intensive period stretching from late 2014 to early 2015 a mosque in Lund in southern Sweden was repeatedly vandalised with derogatory graffiti. This occurred simultaneously with many other attacks on Swedish mosques and highlighted an issue which is in need to be elaborated; islamophobic hate crimes. The purpose of this study is to describe how young male Muslims experience the violation of their mosque in Lund and what conclusions they draw from their experiences. This study aims therefore to contribute to a broader understanding of the potential consequences of islamophobic hate crimes. By reducing the empirical material into reoccurring themes and interpret these using social identity theories this study finds that the vandalism reinforces earlier feelings of not belonging. The vandalism is interwoven with earlier discriminatory experiences and further strengthens the feeling of disappointment and mistrust towards the majority society. It also, however, increases the willingness to work for a change by getting involved in youth associations which advocates increased communications with different groups in society to reduce islamophobia. The data in this qualitative study is collected using semi-structured interviews with five young men who regularly visit the mosque. The method of observation is also used to get a broader understanding of the interviewees’ experiences.

Kvinnlig brottslighet under andra världskriget : En jämförande studie om kvinnors brottslighet i Lunds rådhusrätt och Kristianstads rådhusrätt. / Female crime during World War II

Bengtsson, Ingrid January 2020 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the characteristics of crimes committed by women and how it developed in the two swedish cities, Lund and Kristianstad, during the second world war. The years studied are 1940, 1942 and 1944. Another purpose with this paper is to investigate women’s crime patterns in the city. Women’s crime in Lund and Kristianstad is studied comparatively. Quantitative method and source material in the form of court journals are used. The result of this paper is that the development of crime differed between the cities of Lund and Kristianstad. The total female crime in Lund neither increased nor decreased, while the female crime in Kristianstad increased. The female crime also turned out to be higher in Kristianstad than in Lund. The most common crime among women was mainly traffic violations in both cities. Theft was also a common crime in the cities. Violent crimes and illegal alcohol handling were not common among the female criminals. The female criminal was usually a young Swedish woman under the age of 30; a housewife, unmarried or working as a maid.

The Effect of the Alcohol Prohibition on the Number of Assault Crimes and the Police Employees tasks of Employment : From a Local Perspective

Svensson, Michelle, Bengtsson, Evelina January 2021 (has links)
Due to the Covid-19 the Swedish governement introduced an alcohol prohibition in an aim to reduce the spread of infection in Sweden. Previous research demonstrates that there is a conjunction between alcohol use and violent crimes. It is therefore of interest to investigate what impact the alcohol prohibition has had on the amount of assault crimes in the public environment in Lund and how it eventually have effected operational police officers and strategic police officers tasks of employment. The number of reported crimes and selfreported assault crimes has decreased between 2017 and 2021. The police officers tasks of employment differ because some have a operational focus and others have a strategical focus. The results in this study demonstrates that the assault crimes have decreased, both from statistics from the police department and police officers experience. From the five semistructured interviews it turned out that the operational police officers tasks of employment has changed more than strategical police officers. Both the strategical and the operational police officers perform restaurant-related tasks to a lesser extent and more time can be set aside for other relevant tasks. The operational police officers handle and prevent a large number of juvenile- and drugcrimes while the strategical police officers to a greater extent work with neighborhood cooperation and to promote the network of contact with the local community.

Hernandez, Natali, Maslesa, Lejla January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to create an understanding of Gröna Lund working for a sustainable amusement park from the social sustainability perspective with a focus on concerts. We also want to get visitors' perspectives on how they experience Gröna Lund at concerts from the social sustainability perspective. This study has a qualitative research strategy and contains twelve semi-structured interviews that deal with the area of concerts at Gröna Lund from the visitors' perspective. With the help of the interviews, we have been able to create a greater understanding of how visitors have experienced concerts from the social sustainability perspective. The theory this study will address is the sustainability development work Agenda 2030 practiced by the UN. The aspects of sustainability development are ecological, economic and social concepts. This study will focus on the social aspect of sustainability. The study indicates that Gröna Lund strives for a sustainable amusement park with a priority on the economic and ecological aspect. What Gröna Lund does based on the social aspect is to work with guest satisfaction, safety, security, experience and that their employees should generate diversity. The interview participants' experience at concerts at Gröna Lund indicates that the negative factors are more than the positive ones and affect their experience at the amusement park.

Utbyggnad av Gröna Lund : Ett förslag till utformning av Skeppsholmsviken 6 / Extension of Gröna Lund : A proposal for formation of Skeppsholmsviken 6

Ekman, Anna, Molla Omar, Soulin January 2019 (has links)
Aim: The aim of the thesis is to investigate and design the extension of Gröna Lund within the property of Skeppsholmsviken 6 in regards to the factors that affected the formation. Methods: Interviews were conducted with people involved in the current project. A survey was administered on social media to explore public opinion and requisition tied to the extension work. Furthermore, an audit of detailed plans, reports and drawings was carried through. Results: The constructions resulted in five buildings placed along the coastline facing Saltsjön and a public board walk in terms of a dock which should be accessible for passage through Skeppsholmsviken 6. Conclusions: The results show that the extension of Gröna Lund has a strong cultural and historical attachment and will benefit the public and visitors of Gröna Lund. Additionally, the extension will have positive ecological, social and economic consequences such as increased safety, tourism, job opportunities and reduced traffic. The extension can be made ecologically sustainable by using wood as a building material, build it on piles and raising the dock a bit over the water surface to get a larger light transmission.

Liliputtar, strippor och exotiska stammar : En studie över mänskliga attraktioner på tivoli Gröna Lund under 1900-talet

Hasselgren, Bodil January 2015 (has links)
This paper discuses three different freakshow-attractions at the amusement park Gröna Lund in Stockholm during the 20th century; two tribes from the African continent, the exhibit of people with dwarfism and all female striptease. These attractions have been examined with international and intersectional perspective aswell as their effect on the possible heritage status of the amusement park Gröna Lund and their part in creating a so-called dissonant heritage. The thesis does not examine individual freaks or the amusement often refereed to as burlesque that also was an important part of the amusement park Gröna Lund. By studying the amusement park Gröna Lund’s company archive at the Centre for business history in Stockholm I found the main source material for this thesis. This material consisted of pictures, commercial flyers given out at exhibitions, advertising banners and articles from various Swedish newspapers. The material has then been exposed to both textual and image analysis. The result is that the human attractions at Gröna Lund can, and should, be seen as a part of an international freakshow market - although influenced by social and political trends and institutions. I also argue that the amusement park, and the human attractions are a part of a dissonant heritage, a more intersectional Swedish heritage. This is a two years master’s thesis in Archive, Library and Museum studies.
